"Overall, very good. **Ambiance:** Beautiful, neat, and clean. **Service:** The front desk staff provide essential information, which you should really pay close attention to. When my room key went missing at the hot spring on the 9th floor, the front desk was incredibly helpful. They reminded me to always keep valuables securely locked in lockers and confirmed they would have someone search for it. Soon after, they promptly brought it back to me. **Dining:** The cakes at the lobby bar were absolutely delicious, and the service was excellent. Plus, there's a lovely garden view to enjoy. **Minor drawback:** The soba noodles I ordered for lunch at the Japanese restaurant were too salty. To my surprise, the server actually brought plain water for us to dilute it ourselves."

"My stay at the Gero Onsen Yamagataya was a truly memorable experience. This charming hotel offers a delightful combination of stunning views, convenient shopping, and, of course, the relaxing bliss of a traditional onsen. The views from the hotel were simply breathtaking. Whether it was from my room or the common areas, I was constantly treated to picturesque landscapes of the surrounding area. It added a special touch to my stay, creating a sense of tranquility and connection with nature. One of the unexpected highlights was the hotel's in-house souvenir shop. It was surprisingly well-stocked with high-quality local crafts and treats, making it incredibly convenient to find unique gifts for friends and family (and maybe a little something for myself!). The selection was impressive, and the prices were reasonable. Of course, no onsen hotel review would be complete without mentioning the onsen itself. The onsen at Yamagataya was fantastic. The various pools offered a range of temperatures and experiences, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. The serene atmosphere added to the overall sense of relaxation and rejuvenation. Overall, my stay at the Gero Onsen Yamagataya was exceptional. The combination of the stunning views, the convenient shopping, and the wonderful onsen experience made for a truly relaxing and enjoyable getaway. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a traditional Japanese onsen experience with a touch of modern comfort."

"Awesome ryokan with history! Very convenient to get to the place. The train offers beautiful views of the Hida Valley, mountain rivers and cute villages, this already prepares for a super experience. The purple bus will meet you at the station and take you up the mountain. The ryokan is huge and consists of several buildings. And even if there are many guests in the ryokan, you will get a really calm and peaceful stay. The rooms are in a traditional style, each one is different from the other. The rooms are spacious and very beautiful. The windows open up to views of the mountains, the forest. The ryokan itself is like a labyrinth, you can wander through the corridors and each time find a treasure: private onsens, billiards, a rest room, a viewing site. I took a room with an onsen inside, and I never regretted it. It was wonderful to sit in my own onsen with a view of the mountains and admire the sunset. An unforgettable experience. The public onsen is also great. There is an indoor bath and an outdoor bath with wonderful decoration. The kaiseki dinner is also great. It is brought to your room. It is very tasty, entertaining and exciting. Each dish is elegantly served, served on the most beautiful tableware, which makes it equal to art. I only regretted one thing, that I did not stay longer. This day in the ryokan Yunoshimakan made my trip to Japan unforgettable! Thank you!"

"The onsen quality in Gero district is really superior. Skin feels very silky. The floor structure can feel confusing but we got used to it very quickly. The hotel offers good onsen and kaiseiki experience at economical price. Lots of local Japanese so it felt very authentic. The only downsides are 1. lack of entertainment options eg local performance, art & craft for young kids 2. Very crowded breakfast time. They could arrange different breakfast halls to divert the crowd or give timeslot tickets in advance."

"Stayed there for two nights. In-room onsen was good, staff at reception excellent. Food was simply terrible. Rice was cold (personally it’s simply unacceptable in any Japanese restaurant except for sushi may be?), the chef seems to enjoy making fusion dishes (and except that they were unappetising). To name but a few, we had strawberry mousse for starter, tofu (which was bitter) and pickles with miso for mains, and who’d put diced apple in an apple sorbet?? (Felt as though I was biting into ice cubes). The waitress was also extremely impatient and rushed us through our meals (we finished our dinners within 35 minutes, breakfasts 20). I honestly cannot recommend this hotel. Sorry, but no."

"There will be pick-up and drop-off services, and guests will be treated courteously. Special elevator, surprising outdoor hot spring on the eighth floor, and free beer. The dinner was rich and after that the bed was ready. Very heartwarming. The sound insulation is very good, it was a very comfortable trip. Like 👍🏻"

"This hot spring hotel is mostly occupied by Japanese people and there are very few foreign tourists. Everything is better than expected, and the package with two meals is very cost-effective. The room is in traditional Japanese style, very large and old but very clean. The hot spring pool has indoor and outdoor areas. When I went to soak in the outdoor area at 4 pm on the first day, I was the only one there and the environment was very good. When checking in, the front desk will let you choose the dining time. The buffet is divided into three time periods. I chose the earliest time period. It was basically full every time, and there were a lot of delicious food. According to the comments, there is a free shuttle every half an hour, but in fact, the shuttle needs to be booked in advance and is not free. I walked to the hotel because I didn't wait for the shuttle. People with a lot of luggage are advised to take a taxi or leave the large luggage at the station because the second half of the walk to the hotel is uphill and it is tiring to drag the suitcase."

"An old hotel that retains its grandness.. Although at check in, I was informed there's a charge only if I take the flowery yukata. There are free surprises in the Japanese room every day. Clean Japanese socks, towels in bags and a different Japanese sweet every day with Japanese tea My room faces the Hida River, it was beautiful looking out. It is very near the rail line, but it didn't disturb me. And I suppose all river facing hotels face the same light loving insects. But if you follow the instructions placed in the room, it is alright"

"A charming and comfortable traditional Japanese ryokan. The location is excellent, directly opposite the JR station; you can easily reach it by following the pedestrian signs across the railway tracks. The staff were incredibly warm and attentive. They kindly allowed us to store our luggage before check-in, which was great for exploring the onsen town without any burden. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious and ample Japanese meals (washoku), for which you could confirm a preferred seating time. Complimentary coffee was also available in the first-floor lobby lounge. The onsen facilities were excellent, including a lovely open-air bath (rotenburo). Overall, we were extremely satisfied and would highly recommend this ryokan."

GGuest UserLovely onsen ryokan. Staff don’t really speak English so there’s a bit of trying to figure things out for yourself.  Nevertheless, service was friendly and helpful as best they could.  The outdoor onsen is really relaxing and because it’s not a crowded hotel, both times I went I had it to myself as did my wife and kids in the ladies area.  We picked the room with its own outdoor onsen tub which is a great option if you don’t want to use the non-private ones.  You can apparently book private onsens but they did not have any available for us (possibly because we arrived slightly late in the day).  Food was excellent for both dinner and breakfast.  Kids couldn’t;’quite enjoy the onsens cause they found the water too hot so you may want to make sure your kids can before you decided to splurge.  One final point, the ryokan is located down a tiny road on the right just before Google Maps tells you that you have reached.

Gero Hongyekan Wanboting is really great! In Japan's three famous springs, Geroizumi, the service is very good. There is an open-air bath on the roof of a sister hotel, and there is a car to pick up and drop off at any time from 9 to 12 in the evening, which is very convenient. The water quality is so good, the sun that soaks up the skin will slide down when it falls on it. A wonderful hotel experience! The beauty at the front desk drove me out to buy urgently needed products when I was in an emergency. Every detail was great. The Japanese-style room was also spacious. I really like this place. I will definitely go again if I have a chance, and I will definitely stay here again. hotel. Breakfast is included, and the environment and ceremony are very beautiful! The hotel itself has indoor and outdoor hot springs. When it snows, get up early in the morning to soak in that outdoor hot spring, which is quiet and beautiful! Its sister pavilion has a very strange inclined elevator, and the hot spring water is the smoothest I have ever soaked in.

GGuest UserThis is the best onsen hotel we’ve stayed in, among those we’ve stayed in for the past 12 years! We stayed here for 2 nights. We’ve extremely grateful to the hosts for their outstanding service and hospitality from the heart. Loved the thoughtfully varied menu for each meal. The establishment is spotlessly clean and excellently maintained. Each morning, our towels and yukata (hotel gowns) were replaced. So were the amenities ( fragrant green tea packs, snacks). The housekeeping staff even offered to mop our rooms after only one night’s stay. The wifi was also fast and sustained well in the guest room and public lounge areas. There are facilities to cater to a wide range of age groups from seniors like us and children too. There were ample resting chairs in the lounge and on the way to the historian’s well as guest rooms. The best facility was the hot springs! They are exactly as depicted in the hotel website. Numerous indoor pools of various temperature all have the renowned ‘beautifying’ odorless alkaline water. My skin felt so smooth and moisturized after only one soak. What’s more the hot springs stay open for in-house guests from 10.30 am to 11 pm and day-trip visitors from 10.30 am to 8 pm. In-house guests can also use the hotsprings early from 6 to 9 am. There is a European dry sauna as well as wet steam rooms in both make and female hotspring areas. We would love to stay here again!

Ssjf1986aaaIt is a sister hotel with Fugaku next door. Before we even got to the door, the old man of the hotel came over to confirm whether we were staying. The names of the people matched. When we left, the old man was waiting for us at the door very early. When we went out for a walk, he also thoughtfully prepared a map for us. The service of the older generation of Japanese is really amazing. There is a special room for breakfast and dinner, which tastes good. There is a private bath in the room. Open the window to the outdoor private bath. Hehe, there are several hot springs upstairs and downstairs. My wife took a bath three times a day and soaked in all the hot springs. Gero is not big, so it is suitable for a leisurely stroll for half a day, eating some snacks, returning to the hotel to taste food, watch the snow, and take a bath.

RRex Wong HKThe overall experience was very satisfactory, and the Mandarin-speaking waiter arranged for us from Hong Kong and the communication was smooth. There is no shuttle bus at the location, but it takes more than ten minutes to walk from the JR station. If the luggage is not heavy, it is not too far. The hotel is beautiful, there is a letter shop at the beginning, and there is a foot bath hot spring pool. The seventh floor is a separate hot spring pool for men and women, with an open-air pool. The male soup faces the direction of the station and sees different scenery sooner or later. The female soup is very private, but there is no scenery. It seems that you can order private baths for men and women, but we have no time to try this time. The room is large, you can choose to make a bed, there is no problem for four people, but this time it is only my girlfriend and I. The view of the stream outside the room is particularly beautiful at night, but it is very light in the morning. It is recommended to bring your own blindfold to sleep later. There are special activities on Saturday, there are many performances and stalls, very atmospheric. Finally, meals, breakfast and dinner can not be missed, you can enjoy at a few designated times. We stayed for two nights, two days have different menus, the dishes have signature flying yak and fish raw, but the cooking method is different, very pleasant, it is recommended that two nights do not need to transfer to the hotel.

KKeleyisibeierhengcengguoquanGero overturned my view of Japanese tourism. Most of the hotels and convenience stores in the whole town employ Nepalese and Indians, so you can imagine that etiquette is engraved in their bones. They can speak to you in Japanese, bow to you, and say some etiquette words, that's all. You will see that when they pass the plate to you, they will not pass it to you personally, but let the people at the same table pass it to you; when they help you get tea, their fingers will touch the tea, and when they deliver the meal, they will forget the menu today and the paper towel tomorrow. When they find out, they will make a joke, as if I have arrived at a Japanese hotel opened by Nepalese. This hotel is a sister hotel next door, so they are connected. The so-called connection means that some of the room doors face the restaurant opposite. When we checked in, there was a green used towel hanging in the toilet. Everyone will experience it slowly...

WwipaweeThis place is huge, I've never seen a bigger room around here! It's awesome. The only thing is, it's a bit of a trek from the station, but whatever. I did have a small problem with reception in the morning; I needed a taxi and they said they'd book one, but it never showed up! So I had to sort it out myself. Still, it's a great place, but hopefully, they'll improve their service a bit.

YYuzuojianThe shaking of the elevator 🛗 spills the cup of coffee. I felt very dangerous. Welcome drinks were very good. The service of Oden 🍢 and Ramen 🍜 is the best. The private open-air bath was not good, but the underground bath was good. For dinner, grilled meat on a pottery plate 🥩 Hobamiso is delicious. Free alcohol drinks were also good. The water splitting of the sub-flowing water in Hida was the most fun. At breakfast, Orange 🍊 was very sweet and delicious. I wish I had ice cream. In terms of price, I will give you a passing score. In addition, please provide customer service. I would like to use it again. Fireworks 🎇 also looked a little!
