"This is a warm and welcoming family-run inn. The owner greeted us in the morning and evening, and the grandfather and children took care of us at other times. Our room was on the first floor, but the second floor was being renovated during our stay. The room was generally dark, and we noticed some dust and a musty smell. The shower had hot water and drained well. Amenities included bath towels and soap. There was no hairdryer. There was an extra charge to use the air conditioner. It was hot, so we paid for the entire night upfront, but it was the right decision as the air conditioner reduced the musty smell. Breakfast is served at a table in front of the room for two people, and at a larger table in the public area for more than two people. The fruit and coconut sambal were delicious! The garden was beautiful, and we enjoyed the local atmosphere that you don't get at typical hotels. While the cleanliness was a concern, the owner and grandfather were very kind. In Sigiriya, where many hotels are expensive, we were very satisfied with the service at this price. There are many restaurants and shops nearby, and several laundromats within walking distance. There are also places to buy alcohol within walking distance, which was very convenient."

"This is a very nice hotel that is light and airy, and gives you a sense of being in the country. The staff are wonderful and make the experience what it is. Breakfast and dinner are very good, although it would be great to see more variation. Dambulla town has quite limited food options, so hotels like this are often the only choice for guests. The location is good - near to Dambulla, Sigiriya and only 1.5 hours from Anuradhapura. It would be nice to go for walks near to the hotel including to the lake. It is possible but there are guard dogs for the homes on the path to the hotel which makes for a less than relaxing walk. Overall, an excellent hotel"

"The hotel is very beautiful and very integrated with nature. It is very close to Dambulla. The Jetwing Group is all plastic-free and has a strong environmental awareness. I like it very much. The check-in speed was a bit slow, but welcome drinks and snacks were provided during the check-in. The room is very large and an extra bed was given. It was very comfortable to stay with 3 adults and 1 child. The dinner buffet was booked starting at 7 o'clock. There were quite a lot of choices and the price was reasonable. The only thing I was not satisfied with was that we were in rooms 220 and 221, which were right above the restaurant, and right above the scrambled eggs + barbecue. The cooking smell was very strong after the restaurant opened, and the buffet was very noisy at night. The noise was not over until the restaurant was cleaned up in the middle of the night, which was not friendly to young children. Families who sleep light must avoid the rooms above the restaurant when booking, especially 220/221"

"Kalundewa retreat is a beutiful place designed preserving the nature. The service provided is also as expected and the food was also tasty. Staff is also nice and friendly and is always available for anything you need. We stayed at karanda chalet and the chalet was also spacious enough. The garden is also well maintained and overall it’s a beutiful place. Few recommendations that is better if done. 1. On top of the karanda chalet outdoor pool it’s a tree with lots of bats. As nature calls their feces also sometimes fall into the pool and a lot of leaves too fall into the pool. We are very happy to see the pool in the middle of nature but having a dip and swimming in that outdoor pool is a bit risky.. so we didnt swim. If you can please clean the pool as much as possible before the guests arrive and try to come up with an idea to cover the pool when not in use. 2. So many glasses at karanda chalet are at a location that is not possible to clean daily.. clean them as much as possible and try to clean the outdoor glass doors before the next guest arrives ( so they have a crystal clear view through the glasses) 3. When we arrived a lot of leaves were fallen on the outdoor deck and the day bed cushions were not cleaned. I understand that according to the location of the karanda chalet if is very hard to keep it clean with the monkeys and the massive amount of large trees on top of it but I feel you can give a bit more effort to clean and keep to give a good looking first impression about the chalet to the guests. Please clean the outdoor day bed cushions and keep them separately so the guests can use them when needed ( otherwise the monkeys sit on them and make it dirty) 4. Bathroom is nice but being a five star hotel the bathroom amneties could have been of better quality. When ever possible please replace them to a luxury category. Also please keep up with your service. We had a nice stay there."
