The hotel's elevated location offers stunning views even from the lower floors. Four rooms have private baths (loan-kiri-furo), each with a unique style. The semi-outdoor baths are very airy. The large public baths are both indoors and outdoors, and soaking in the fresh air is highly recommended. The hotel also offers a full range of amenities for women, and the breakfast is very thoughtful. The hotel also hosts various events for festivals, such as fishing for snacks and fairy wand experiences.
Absolutely perfect, fantastic value for money, and truly exceptional service. The lobby also offered complimentary free-flow beer, red, and white wine. This was hands down the most comfortable stay of our entire trip – I absolutely loved it! Its location is superb, just a five-minute drive from the main shopping street.
Although it was a cheap plan, the room was clean and spacious, and it was too spacious for just two people.
The room was fully equipped, with a toilet, a bath, and a small sink separate from the washbasin.
You can bathe at the group facility Kounkaku and the nearby Takinoyu for free, which was very satisfying for hot spring lovers.
There was also a free shuttle to the parking lot, and the service was excellent. The crab at dinner was the firmest and most delicious of all the all-you-can-eat crab I've ever eaten. This is definitely one of the ryokans I'd like to visit again.

Location was far from Train station - hence need a free shuttle bus from Sendai station to go in. Kind of challenging to book and confirm the shuttle arrangement but got it done after few clarifications. Hotel itself is near Akiu Sato centre which is good
Hotel is big but quite old looking, room spacious , good onsen.
very good dinner buffet with snow crabs daily. Buffet breakfast limited spread but OK
Problem is other main attractions are far and need to take bus/taxi.
The Akiu traditional craft village/park was a big disappointment with no visitors and only few shops opened. Not worth going at all

I didn't encounter a Chinese-speaking receptionist, but I could still communicate with them. Dinner is served at 5 PM and 7 PM, a buffet with 90 minutes allotted. The best dish was the oyster rice; the oysters were of good quality, and you were given a small pot to cook them yourself – a great DIY experience. The rest was just average buffet quality, edible, though the beef tongue was decent. Breakfast is served at 7 AM and 8 AM, with 60 minutes allotted. I recommended the seafood donburi, yogurt, and milk – so delicious! The best part was the bar behind the lobby, with unlimited drinks. The room was large, and I think I was upgraded. The problem was the air conditioning; you could only adjust the level, not the temperature. However, I didn't need to turn it on when I arrived, so I didn't try it. There's a Lawson convenience store near the bus stop, and Leilei Gorge in the other direction, but I didn't go there.
The hot springs are very good! The food is delicious because it is made with local ingredients! It is surrounded by fresh green, and I can spend it comfortably. The welcome drink bar is great and well received by families.
Frontsesk is kind and introduce good. Dinner and breakfast are very delicious. There are 2 separate hot springs located at main and annex building and both are different and good. Room view is beautiful. There are many other facilities such as ping pong room, karaoke room. CPI is very high.
Location is gd w Donki, family mart and many eateries choices around 👍🏼 hotel services are gd free soba supper fr 9:30- 11pm , free drinks at lobby and free ice cream after hot spring bath with comics corner really relaxing ! We enjoyed our stay here and hope to b back again e families in nearer dates
The single room is quite big, but the bathroom is very small. Fortunately, we are all taking a hot spring bath, so we can barely get by without taking a shower. It is a very old hotel. It can be seen that it is a bit old, but it is well maintained. It feels that most of the guests staying in the hotel are Japanese who come for the weekend. There are free drinks in the lobby, and there are also take-out cups.
The location is on the seaside and very close to the attractions. You can call to book a bus from the station to the hotel, which goes to Matsushima Coast and Matsushima Station. It seems that it is not written on the website. I found it when I was bored and looked through the explanations in the room. In fact, it is not long to walk from Matsushima Coast Station.
The hot spring is good, facing the sea, and you can see the sea indoors and outdoors. Going to soak at off-peak times is equivalent to booking the whole place, which is very comfortable.
We booked dinner and breakfast. The breakfast is well received, with special dishes from all over Miyagi Prefecture, and they all taste good. Dinner is hard to describe, semi-self-service, the appetizer sashimi and the main course of three choices are all normal, there are many self-service dishes, and the taste is not very good, the unlimited tempura is delicious, and the cod milt is especially good. However, there were also unlimited beef tongue and pork chops. Of the two beef tongues, one was so tough that I couldn't chew it at all, so I spit it out. The pork chops tasted good, but there was too much fat and meat, so I ate half and spit out the other half. The best thing about dinner was the dessert and fruit.
Hotel Monterey is centrally located just outside the Sendai Station and is easily seen after you exit the station. The staff was very courteous and helpful at the time of check in. Language could be an issue but is easily manageable. I was offered a single room in a lower floor and on my request for a room on the higher floor, without any hesitation I was allotted a double room on the higher floor.
The ambience of the restaurant for breakfast was great and the variety of food served catered to Japanese and western. The breakfast was delicious.
I had to extend my stay and this was also done seamlessly without any issues.
Overall a great hotel centrally located with plenty of shopping around. If I come to Sendai again, I will return to Hotel Monterey if I visit Sendai again.

Very Good
旅旅遊家庭Japanese style corner sea view room. Very attractive. The hotel is clean and hygienic. The room is comfortable. Free parking is provided. Very satisfied. The hot spring provides outdoor bath and foot bath. But no sauna. The dinner is very rich. Desserts are provided on the second floor. Very exquisite. Although a little expensive, it is worth the money.
MM262711****The hotel is super close to Sendai Station, making transportation very convenient. It's also near Tohoku University, Sendai Asaichi (morning market), observation decks, and 7-Eleven.
The hotel service is excellent; check-in and check-out were quick and easy.
The rooms are well-equipped, clean, and tidy, with water and toiletries provided. When leaving, I noticed in the reception area that the hotel has won many awards. The breakfast buffet isn't huge, but the variety is decent, typically Japanese. They even have Sendai's famous Zunda Shake, so no need to go all the way to the station to buy one! Whether for leisure or business, it's a solid, comfortable stay without any real drawbacks.
On the day before I left Japan, there was a tsunami and earthquake. I was in such a panic late at night that I ran down to the lobby in my room slippers to consult with the manager. I apologize for that; please forgive me. I later realized that the staff on duty in the lobby were incredibly polite, warm, and helpful in their replies, and they all remained very calm.
MMarble202Transportation: easiest with a 50-min taxi ride from Sendai airport unless int’l traveler wants to transfer via trains/buses. Nearest bus stop/little township is 遠刈田温泉 (13-min by foot to the Inn).
Key feature is open air onsens in forestry — this is why I chose to stay. Delightful breakfast and dinner (during dinner, there are all-inclusive drinks menu + additional charge ones). I enjoyed the 2nd night’s beef/daikon pot in particular. There are hearth side afternoon refreshment, happy hour beer, post-dinner snack that you will be kept fed warmly.
The aircon in Buna room would blow directly on the head so the fan blade should be adjusted.
Staff English speaking capability varies but they made every effort in solving problems. Little hiccup after checking out that the bus time table the Inn indicated was outdated, but I still managed to change my route in the fly, which is the beauty traveling in Japan.

GGuest UserMy stay at the hotel was decent. The room was clean, and the bed was comfortable enough. The staff was generally polite, but I felt they could have been more attentive. The location was convenient, and the breakfast was satisfactory. Overall, it was a standard experience without any standout features.

AAnonymous UserHotel is approx 5 mins walk from Sendai station. Follow west exit. My single room is a bit small but spacious enough for a solo. Room was clean and linen crisp. 1 bottle of water provided each day. Onsen is small with one outdoor. Over my 2-day stay at most I bumped into another person in the onsen. 2 washers and dryers in the onsen facility. Wash is free (30 mins standard) but dryer is charged 100 yen for 20 mins which is enough to 80% dry a small load. Night ramen was delicious and I appreciate the ice cream and Yakult at the onsen. Family mart is 20 steps away. Didn’t try the breakfast. And it’s actually very near the Miyakoh highway bus centre.
