Tokyo has a humid subtropical climate which means mild winters and warm and wet summers. While visitors come to Tokyo year-round, but the best time to explore the city is in Spring (March to May) and Fall (September to November). During these two seasons, the weather is pleasant, and Tokyo is exceptionally beautiful with blossoming flowers in Spring and colorful foliage in Fall. The hottest month is August with an average high temperature of 31C (88F) and the coldest month is January with an average high of 9 C (48 F). If you prefer to holiday in summer and don’t mind the heat, expect short rainfall almost every day and high humidity. There is a rainy season in Tokyo, which typically lasts from early June to mid-July.There are several peak tourist seasons in Tokyo when visitors should expect large crowds and high prices. First is the end of March to early April when cherry blossoms are in full bloom, then again in the Golden Week (end of April to the first week of May) when a number of holidays mean locals flock to Tokyo and all scenic areas to celebrate. The same is for Fall when crowds gather for the vibrant foliage. Besides the weeks between Christmas and New Year, traveling during the off-season (late autumn through March) can save you a bundle.

Ghibli Museum

Feels like: Manila, but hotter and stickier.

  • Expect 30°C to 37°C.

  • Sudden rain showers are common.
  • Typhoons sometimes hit in August.

What to Bring/Wear:
✅ Light, breathable clothes (cotton shirts, shorts)
✅ Slippers or comfy sneakers

Travel Tip:

Mount Fuji

Feels like: Baguio in December, minus the fog.

  • Best weather for walking and exploring.
  • Cooler, cleaner air (15°C to 25°C).
  • Trees change colors – nice for photos.
  • Less rain, clear skies most days.

What to Bring/Wear:
✅ T-shirts for daytime

The Ultimate Tokyo Weather Guide

Tokyo has four clear seasons, and each one feels different. The weather can change fast, so it’s best to know what to expect—lalo na if you’re used to the tropical heat of the Philippines. Whether you're chasing cherry blossoms or shopping in Shibuya, being ready for Tokyo’s weather will help you enjoy your trip more.

🌸 Spring (March to May)

Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden

Temperature: 10°C – 20°C
Weather: Cool mornings, warm afternoons, but sometimes rainy or windy. Cherry blossom season happens around late March to early April.

How it feels:
In the morning, it feels like Baguio before sunrise—lamig! But by lunchtime, the sun’s out and it can get warm. You’ll remove your jacket, then suddenly need it again when the wind picks up.

What to pack:
✅ Light jacket or hoodie
✅ T-shirt for layering
✅ Small umbrella (rain can come anytime)
✅ Comfortable shoes for walking
✅ Powerbank for all the photos you’ll take of cherry blossoms

☀️ Summer (June to August)

Kokyo Gaien National Garden

Temperature: 27°C – 37°C
Weather: Very hot, very humid, with sudden rain showers. July and August are the hottest months. Typhoons might also hit around late summer.

How it feels:
Imagine Manila at noon, but the air is heavier. You’ll sweat as soon as you step outside. Malls and trains blast aircon though, so you might get chills after sweating.

What to pack:
✅ Light and breathable clothes (cotton shirts, shorts)
✅ Extra shirt – trust us, you’ll need it
✅ Face towel or portable fan
✅ Umbrella or raincoat (for sudden rain)
✅ Cap or hat, plus sunblock
✅ Water bottle – staying hydrated is important

Tip: Look out for heatstroke warnings during extreme days.

Weather: Cool, dry, and comfortable. Less rain. This is Tokyo’s “relaxing” season – perfect for sightseeing.

What to pack:
✅ T-shirts during the day
✅ Light jacket or sweater for cooler nights
✅ Comfy sneakers or sandals
✅ Camera—you’ll want to capture the autumn leaves

Tip: This is the best time to visit if you don’t like extreme heat or cold.

❄️ Winter (December to February)

Senso-ji

Temperature: 2°C – 10°C
Weather: Cold, dry, and sometimes windy. Tokyo doesn’t usually get snow, but nearby areas do.

How it feels:
Colder than Tagaytay at night. Even if it’s sunny, the wind can feel freezing. Air is very dry, so your lips and skin might crack without care.

What to pack:
✅ Thick jacket or coat
✅ Hoodie or sweater for layering
✅ Scarf, bonnet, gloves (January is the coldest)
✅ Closed shoes (boots or sneakers)
✅ Lip balm and lotion – your skin will thank you
✅ Heat packs from convenience stores for extra warmth

What to Expect Each Month in Tokyo

Senso-ji

🧣 January – February

Super Lamig, Dry, at Sunny
Tokyo is cold during these months—expect 2°C to 10°C. Mornings and nights feel like aircon at full blast. It’s mostly sunny but windy and dry. No snow in Tokyo itself, but nearby areas like Mt. Fuji might have snow. You’ll need a thick jacket, scarf, and gloves especially if lakwatsero ka.

Tip:
Pasok sa mood ang ramen, hot drinks, and warm cafés.

🌸 March – May

Cherry Blossoms and Presko Weather
Spring is one of the best times in Tokyo. Temperatures start at 10°C and warm up to 20°C. Early mornings can still be cold, but afternoons are sunny and comfortable. Cherry blossoms bloom around late March to early April. Some rainy days, but mostly good for walking.

Tip:
Bring a jacket in the morning but be ready to remove it by lunch.

🌧️ June – September

Mainit, Malagkit, Maulan (Tokyo Summer)
If you’ve survived Manila summer, expect the same or worse. Temps hit 30°C to 35°C. Humidity is intense—you’ll sweat right after leaving your hotel. June and July are rainy months. August is super hot. Typhoons sometimes pass through in late summer, causing heavy rains.

What to Bring:
Fan, extra shirts, umbrella, and always hydrate.

Tip:
Shops and trains have strong aircon. Pwede ka lamigin after sweating, so dalhin ang light jacket.

🍁 October – November

Best Weather – Chill, Clean Air, Clear Skies
Temperature drops to a comfortable 15°C to 25°C. Less humid, fewer rainy days, and perfect for long walks. Trees change color—autumn leaves everywhere! Nice for park hopping, street food, and market visits.

Tip:
You’ll enjoy exploring Tokyo without getting pagod from heat or lamig.

🧥 December

Colder Days Start Again
It’s like January light—temps between 5°C to 12°C. Mornings and nights are cold, but daytime sun helps a bit. Dry air can make your skin and lips crack, so bring lotion and lip balm.

Tip:
Even if it looks sunny, lamig pa rin. Layer your clothes before going out.

Best Time to Visit Tokyo

Akihabara

These months give you the “sakto lang” weather—not too hot, not too cold. Clear skies, fresh air, and perfect for walking around Shibuya, visiting temples, shopping, or hunting street food without sweating like crazy or freezing in the wind.

🌸 Why Visit During These Times?

🍡 Spring (Late March to May)

This is cherry blossom season. The weather is cool but not painfully cold—like Baguio in the morning but sunnier in the afternoon. You’ll see sakura trees all over parks and streets. It’s easy to explore the city without getting too tired from heat or cold. Just bring a light jacket for mornings and evenings.

🍁 Autumn (October to Early December)

Many Filipinos say this is the best season in Tokyo. Why? Fresh air, clear skies, and colorful autumn leaves. You won’t get sticky or sweaty, and you won’t need super thick jackets either. Great weather for walking, shopping, and sightseeing. A light jacket or sweater is usually enough. Plus, the city looks extra beautiful with orange and red trees everywhere.

🎄 Early December

It’s already cool but not as freezing as January. Christmas lights and displays start showing up in the city, even if Japan doesn’t celebrate Christmas the same way as the Philippines. Great time for cozy cafés and holiday vibes.

⚠️ When to Be Careful:

🌧️ Summer (June to September)

Honestly, this can be tough for Filipinos who hate humidity. It’s as hot—or sometimes hotter—than Manila, and the air is heavy. Plus, it rains often, especially in June and July. Typhoons might also hit in late summer. Not the best season if you don’t like sticky, sweaty days or sudden storms.

🧧 Golden Week (Late April to Early May)

It’s a local holiday season. Shops stay open, but tourist spots get super crowded. Hotels can be expensive, and trains are packed. If you don’t like crowds, avoid this week.

I had an absolutely wonderful experience at this hotel. From the moment I arrived, the staff were incredibly welcoming, professional, and attentive to every detail. The room was spotless, spacious, and beautifully decorated, with all the amenities I needed for a comfortable stay. The location was perfect – convenient to everything I wanted to explore, yet peaceful and quiet at night. The breakfast was delicious, with a wide variety of fresh and high-quality options. I especially appreciated the thoughtful touches throughout the hotel, which made my stay feel extra special. Overall, this was one of the best hotel experiences I’ve had. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for top-notch service and comfort.

Is a beautiful hotel with Don Quijote just across, Natural Lawson at ground level and next street, there is Family Mart and 7-11. Is about 5-10 min walk to subway and train stations. Also walking distance to Ginza shopping area. Room is spacious where we can open up 1 luggage comfortably. There’s a sofa and the view of Sumida River could be seen from our room. What we really like is the airport bus just stop at entrance of the hotel. We arrive and depart from there. No need to go lug our bags in subway. We also tried the breakfast on last day… so worth it. Overall, I would stay there again if ever in Tokyo. Oh, you can also see Tokyo sky tower from the lobby.

I cannot recommend Tokyo Dome Hotel enough. From the moment we arrived, everything about our stay was flawless. The location is unbeatable – right in the heart of Tokyo with easy access to everything on this side of the city. Whether we were heading out for sightseeing, shopping, or dining, everything was just a short walk or quick train ride away. The food was fantastic – fresh, flavorful, and with plenty of variety. Each meal felt like a highlight of the day. But what truly set this hotel apart was the staff. They are, without exaggeration, the kindest and most helpful people I've ever encountered in any hotel. Every interaction was warm, thoughtful, and efficient. They made us feel truly cared for. This was more than just a hotel stay – it felt like a home away from home. If you're visiting Tokyo, do yourself a favor and stay here. Tokyo Dome Hotel is the gold standard for hospitality.

There is honestly nothing to complain about - everyone is extremely helpful, the room service food and cleaning was superb. One thing I could mention is cues at check - in - it is really demotivating to spend time in the hall after a long trip. Other than that - definitely recommend, both in terms of service and location.

I’ve been in this property on 2019 and, despite the 6 years in between, the hotel kept is style and it is still a solid choice while traveling in Tokyo. Position is good with good access to metro or a 15-20€ Uber ride to the major sightseeing points. Room is also very good with breathtaking views over the bay. Breakfast is a good mix of western and Easter cuisine. Only downside is the fact that the pool is not accessible for free. As HH Gold member I’ve would have expected more a free pass rather than a discounted entry (25€).

The location was very convenient and really close to major metro lines . The view from the high floor was nice especially for watching the sunset. As others have posted the room was really small. If you stay more then two days you will need to close your suitcase and organize your things when housekeeping comes. Otherwise they wouldn’t be able to get very far into the room. The water filer and ice machine on the room floor was really helpful especially when going out for the day with the July heat. The room was not so clean. When I went to use the humidifier it was covered in dust which set off my allergies. Also one of the walls had water damage. There was also a badly done patch on the corner of the wall. The lack of more than one outlet next the bed was annoying, especially when the provided charger didn’t work. One of the reasons I booked was the “lounge”. It was quite disappointing. It was loud in the room and it was right next to a smoking room. The available beverages were not that great. I don’t drink coffee and the juice was so sugary. One more thing that was a little annoying, but not necessarily a negative was housekeeping giving me new towels everyday even though I never put used towels outside with my trashcan in the morning. I stayed less than a week so I was fine using the two provided towels, so I had two bags of new towels sitting on my floor until housekeeping cleaned my room.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Hotel Keihan Tsukiji Ginza Grande in Tokyo, and it was an outstanding experience. This modern hotel is perfectly situated near the famous Tsukiji Outer Market and within walking distance to the upscale Ginza district. The room was spacious and impeccably clean, with a comfortable bed and all the necessary amenities. The bathroom was sleek and well-appointed, with a delightful rain showerhead. The hotel's location is ideal for exploring Tokyo's culinary delights, with plenty of fresh sushi and seafood options nearby. Additionally, the hotel's proximity to the subway makes it easy to access other parts of the city. This hotel is fantastic. My teenager son and I stayed at Standard Twin Room for 7 nights. Wonderful comfortable stay with good housekeeping staff who changed our bedsheets daily. We also love the helpful and polite front desk staff. They were very accommodative to our request to top up a some difference to stay in same room as we had multiple bookings as the same room type wasn't available at point of booking. Big plus point for having a smart pack machine which we used to compress our clothings and soft toys for 100yen per pack. Its the best thing for a hotel to have! Location was good. Short & easy walk to 3 train stations. Surrounded by popular restaurants and coffee places. We will surely stay in this hotel again when we return to Tokyo in ffuture. Con: room doesnt come with bottle water but u can request or get beverages from the beverage counter next to front desk on L2. Located in the prime location of Otemachi. Checking in to the hotel is full of ceremony. But for the price of 13,000, the room is not big. Much smaller than the nearby Amman. Guests who really like traditional Japanese culture will prefer Hoshinoya. From decoration to service, it is low-key (very low-key) luxury, with great attention to details. Lawson at next door, Family Mart at the opposite and 7 eleven perhaps a 100m walk. Very near to Ginza shopping street. Cleanliness: Deducted 1 star for cleanliness because there was a lot of nails leftover in the bag when they passed me the nail clipper pack. The room and common areas are clean. Services: All good other than the cleaners always forget to place 2/3 amenities in the room where I had to call them like 3/4 days stay. I called and asked to lend iron board and nail clipper, no follow up action from them till I called them again the next day (about 24 hours after). Facilities: Standard facilities provided. I appreciated the complimentary welcome drink provided by the hotel. The staff were fluent in English and very responsive to my emails before my arrival. While the hotel room was small, it was functional, which seems typical for hotels in Tokyo. I arrived on a weekend, and the roads leading to the hotel were blocked. If you’re driving with a lot of luggage, this is something to keep in mind. I had to park in a nearby building a few minutes away and carry my heavy bags to the hotel. Unfortunately, I found a black bug on the bed on my first night. As we were too tired to change rooms after unpacking, we didn’t inform the concierge. However, I strongly recommend the hotel be more thorough with their room cleaning, as this was an unpleasant experience.
