The breakfast was terrible, like pre-made meals. There was hardly any decent food, and it was exactly the same for two days straight, with no changes to the dishes at all. The Wi-Fi was extremely unstable, constantly losing signal and speed. The room felt old and was cramped for two people. It was stuffy; even with the AC off, it was hot, and I woke up every morning with a damp back. There weren't many power outlets, and their placement was inconvenient, making charging a hassle.
It was a wonderful experience. I was so excited before arriving and still savoring it after returning. I booked a stay with two meals and enjoyed the hot springs three times a day. The ancient Showa atmosphere, mingled with the sea breeze from the Tsugaru Strait, was a highlight of my trip to Hakodate.
Because I had to return the car at Hakodate Airport the next day, I chose to stay in Yunokawa, which only takes about 10 minutes by car. The hotel has free parking and also provides a buffet breakfast, which is really chill to eat breakfast against the unparalleled sea view. Friendly staff, willing to help, excellent service. Definitely bring my family again.
Very good, nice people, great view, nice room! It is recommended to book two nights to relax! The most amazing thing is opening the balcony door! From that moment on, you feel that taking a taxi is really worth it.
Nice facilities for kids, they can play around while adults are having buffet dinner and breakfast;
Rooms are large and private hotsprings are gorgeous;
Rooms are little bid hot, the a/c seems not working properly, good to have a dyson fan though
I absolutely loved this hot spring hotel; it's the kind of place you'll never want to leave. Breakfast and dinner were served as a semi-buffet, with ingredients that truly showcased the hotel's unique character. The freshly squeezed juices, cherry tomatoes, sweet soup, and coffee regularly prepared in the lobby were all thoughtfully curated, and enjoying them from a seat with a view made the experience even better. The room was just as delightful, featuring a rocking chair and a lounge mat, perfect for watching the Pacific Ocean and sipping tea – absolutely blissful. The hotel's hot springs were beautiful, and the water quality was excellent. The outdoor baths also boasted stunning views, allowing you to watch the sea, stars, and seagulls, feeling truly at one with nature. There's also a foot bath and a 'happiness bell'. The hotel's two generations of resident dogs were also very beautiful and friendly.
The stunning ocean view was incredibly relaxing. The foot bath directly faces the sea, offering a breathtaking vista. The rooftop outdoor hot spring was quite small, which was a bit disappointing. The glass panels were murky and stained, and we could clearly see the rooftops of nearby buildings, which were uncomfortably close, so privacy was a significant concern. In contrast, the hot spring on the first floor was quite good. After a refreshing soak, there's a wonderful relaxation area where you can enjoy coffee while gazing at the sea – absolutely fantastic. The buffet breakfast and dinner were fairly average. Perhaps it was because the hotel was packed with tour groups and elementary school field trips, but the food replenishment couldn't keep up with the demand. Despite this, the staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly.
Tomamu Hoshino Resort – I have to say, it's pretty impressive all around! 🌟
Before it got dark, we explored the farm, petted cows 🐄 and sheep 🐑, climbed hay bales, and relaxed on hay sofas 🌾.
In the evening, we went to Minamina Beach 🏖️ and then to the open-air forest hot spring ♨️, which genuinely smelled of rich wood.
After that, we timed our visit to Tadao Ando's Church on the Water ✝️, listening to the chorus of frogs 🐸.
First thing the next morning, we took the cable car up the mountain to see the sea of clouds (or rather, mist) ☁️.
The beds made of hay were so warm and comfortable! 🐄
The French toast with Hokkaido cream at the Forest Restaurant Nininupuri was absolutely delicious 😋 – the best French toast ever!
Transportation is a bit inconvenient; you transfer once from the airport to Tomamu Station via JR, and then there's a shuttle bus to the hotel. But remember, to get from the hotel to the JR station, you MUST book in advance. It's not on the regular timetable, and it doesn't stop at every station!
This is the hotel we changed from the chain hotel at the station. Because there is a hot spring here. It is only one stop from the airport to the hotel, and even if you take a taxi, it is only 50 RMB. There is a very convenient bus stop at the door of the hotel, and it takes about 30 minutes to get to the city. The hotel's breakfast is very rich and you can eat it every day. The hot spring service is also quite commendable.
I highly recommend it. If you go with a family, book a room by the sea. In fact, it is very cost-effective. One room can accommodate 4~5 people, and then looking at the seaside is very good.

AAI-KimiThis is *the* must-stay hotel in Shiretoko, hands down. I discovered it through a COCOGO Travel video on Bilibili, and its serene, tranquil, and natural vibe instantly captivated me, making me determined to visit.
Shiretoko in summer is all about forests, hot springs, lakes, wild brown bears, and Ainu culture. Here, everything lives in elegant harmony with nature, allowing you to experience its magnificent landscapes firsthand.
The hotel's decor beautifully reflects the local culture. They offer complimentary ice cream and an open bar with free-flowing drinks. Both breakfast and dinner feature carefully selected local ingredients; while portions aren't huge, they are incredibly refined and exquisite.
From the hotel's onsen and authentic Finnish Löyly sauna, you can gaze out over the Shiretoko mountains and the Sea of Okhotsk. The breathtaking views are sure to lift your spirits and leave you feeling refreshed.
GGuest UserGreat basement parking, easily accessible and protected from the snowfall. The interconnecting room was huge and totally worth it for a family of 2A 2C. The hotel was connected to a shopping mall so there was plenty of food choices, shopping, supermarket and even cinema for movie needs. There’s a teppanyaki restaurant Cocoro Grand Park Otaru which serves amazing teppanyaki wagyu and crab and was totally worth the price.
GGuest UserIf you are looking for a truly authentic ryokan experience, Spa Shiosai is an absolute gem. From the moment you arrive, the level of care and attention to detail is world-class.
The Highlights
Exceptional Dining: Each meal was a work of art, prepared with incredible precision and seasonal flair. I especially appreciated the front desk’s proactive service—they consistently checked in to coordinate my preferred dining times, ensuring every meal was served perfectly fresh.
Spacious Public Baths: The onsen facilities are fantastic. The public area is expansive and never felt crowded. Having both a sauna and a serene outdoor bath (rotenburo) made for a deeply relaxing experience.
Comfortable Living: Unlike many traditional stays, the room here was very spacious and exceptionally well-heated, which made for a cozy retreat after a day of exploring.
The Verdict
This isn't just a place to sleep; it’s a place to be looked after. Between the thoughtful staff, the gourmet catering, and the top-tier bath facilities, Spa Shiosai offers the perfect balance of tradition and comfort. Highly recommended!
RRyuaAsamiPerfect!!! Perfect ❤️
The twin room was spacious, with two armchairs and a coffee table, great for bringing back some Joker Burgers from the station. The Hakodate milk was the second best Hokkaido milk, right after Biei's 🥛.
This hotel had the best shower pressure of our whole trip, which was incredibly refreshing after a long, tiring day! The front desk staff, both the ladies and the gentlemen, were all so pleasant. There's also a cute little robot named Mint who looks a bit down, probably running low on battery judging by her eyes 😄. She reminds me of my favorite Maimei ˗ˋˏᰔᩚˎˊ˗
GGuest UserVery good, nice people, great view, nice room! It is recommended to book two nights to relax! The most amazing thing is opening the balcony door! From that moment on, you feel that taking a taxi is really worth it.
GGuest UserThe hotel is about a 15-minute drive from JR Otaru Station. You can pre-book a shuttle service, which runs from 3 PM to 7 PM in the afternoon, and there are also morning shuttles available. We stayed for two days and used the shuttle bus daily, finding it very convenient.
It's also conveniently located close to Otaru Aquarium, Shuku-tsu Observation Deck, and the Blue Cave.
Perched on a hill overlooking the sea, the hotel boasts wonderful views, perfect for catching both sunrise and sunset. Guests staying at the hotel also receive a discount for Mount Tengu Ropeway.
While the hotel's facilities are a bit dated, they are very well-maintained. Each room features a private hot spring tub with continuously flowing, clean water, which is a great convenience.
We pre-booked dinner at the hotel, which offered a fusion of French and Japanese cuisine. There were two set menus to choose from, or à la carte options. The servers were dressed in suits, creating a formal dining atmosphere. We were told their dinner won second place in the 2024 Otaru Hotel Dining Competition, but honestly, I personally didn't feel it quite lived up to that acclaim. Still, it was decent overall.
周周Eat very well. The restaurant has a very nice view. Nothing else, so expensive or public baths, public hot springs, public toilets. Oh Japan. It’s a bit far from the bus station, you can ask the staff at the bus station to call the hotel to pick you up. When I left, I also helped to send it to the bus station. I was worried that we would bypass the supermarket if we didn't buy food. I was a little grateful.
DdebbyThe hotel is not in the city center, but it is very easy to get to the hotel by bus. The room is relatively small and the windows and doors cannot be opened. Since it is centrally air-conditioned, the heating is very warm (hot). If you are not used to the heating opening, it will be a bit The baby is hot and toasty, but if you turn off the air conditioner, there will be no air circulation. So after I communicated with the staff, he gave me a fan. The service was very attentive and the price of the hotel was very affordable. I will definitely stay again.
The staff’s sincere and thoughtful service is highly recommended!
