The hotel is large and spacious, with three interconnected buildings featuring an onsen, or hot spring, on the sixth floor.
The breakfast room's capacity is somewhat limited; we were seated on the third floor, a ballroom repurposed for breakfast, while the typical restaurant is on the second floor. Although the food is the same, the third-floor location lacks the ambiance and view of the second floor. While I understand that the hotel has many guests during peak hours, allowing guests to choose their seating would be preferable. We are not in a rush and are willing to wait; Japanese guests tend to eat quickly anyway.
The room and hot spring were satisfactory, though unremarkable.
The hotel's location is not convenient to the train station. If you are traveling by train, this should be considered, even though a shuttle bus runs hourly.

Super convenient, the hotel is located two
minute walk from Takayama station on the way it is fully covered so there’s no worry during a snowstorm like when I was there. Service was also amazing staff met the guest with a smile and when I didn’t have an umbrella, I was offered umbrellas for loan straightaway for free. The hotel also has its own Onsen and it was very convenient to see it crowdedness through the TV in your own room. There’s also a rest area where you can enjoy the view of Takayama from the top of the building and a foot spa for those who can’t do the full body hot spring which is very good for people.

It’s a pretty new hotel which is just a few minutes walk from JR station. The hotel onsen has indoor and outdoor pool. It’s about 15mins from hotel to Takayama old town. The only down side is that there is no parking for this hotel so for those that drive u have to park a distance away. The closest carpark is about 100m away but that carpark is expensive, if I’m not wrong u have to buy the ticket from the hotel reception and it’s yen2000 for 24hrs and it’s a one time entry. If u get the ticket direct from the carpark it’s yen3000. We park at another carpark that is slightly further away but it’s much cheaper at around yen500 from 1800-1000hrs, walking distance is around 4min from hotel

Good location-if you want to visit Kamikochi. The hotel is just about about 500 meters away from Hirayu bus station. The bus ride (from Hirayu to Kamikochi is about 20 minutes. Hotel staffs are professional, are good in problem solving and friendly. After a walk at Kamikochi, you can relaxed with onsen. The breakfast and dinner are Japanese food (set menu) with good quality and yummy. The hotel also provides lots of freebies e.g. refreshment, noodles at 10.00 pm.

My recent stay at the Wat Hotel & Spa Hida Takayama was a delightful experience. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the hotel's thoughtful amenities and welcoming atmosphere. Ample parking is available (a reasonable ¥800 overnight fee applies), making it a convenient choice for those traveling by car. I also opted for the breakfast buffet (¥1000 per person), which offered a delicious start to each day. The friendly front desk staff spoke excellent English, making check-in a breeze. A particularly nice touch was the welcome drink coupon, redeemable for a refreshing beer or soft drink at the self-service bar – a perfect way to unwind after a journey.
The rooms at Wat Hotel & Spa are spacious and comfortable, featuring well-appointed bathrooms with excellent shower facilities. The hotel's onsen, located on the top floor, is a true highlight. The private onsen is available on a first-come, first-served basis, offering a relaxing and intimate experience. Simply lock the door, and the space is yours to enjoy. The hotel is also family-friendly, with a fun touch – guests can help themselves to a complimentary popsicle after their bath. All the essential amenities are provided, including combs, soap, shampoo, and comfortable bathrobes, readily available in the lobby. My stay at the Wat Hotel & Spa Hida Takayama was truly rejuvenating, and I highly recommend it for anyone visiting this charming town.

Soaking in these waters while feeling the seasonal changes of Okuhida all around you is truly an exceptional and unforgettable experience.

One of the nicest ryokan I have ever tried, with great dinner and breakfast buffet, yet affordable price. The only drawback of this ryokan is that my room was located in other building which was quite far away from the entrance and there was no elevator in that building, so you might need to prepare for smaller luggages.

This hotel exceeded our expectation! It is very near the Nohi Bus station and the JR Takayama station (3-5 min walk). Although we just stayed overnight, we had a memorable experience in Takayama Ouan. The hotel has a lot of freebies for their guests. They have a booth in the lobby where guests can get free brewed coffee, hot tea, and green lemon iced tea. They also provide free socks since the hotel have tatami flooring. What we also loved about this hotel is the onsen (separate public onsen for male and female, and 3 private onsen). They also have a freezer where guests can get free iced cream after bathing. During past 9 pm, they also have free ramen for their guests. The room is spacious, and the view from our window is also nice (the roads and establishments covered with snow). Aside from the free stuff and great amenities, we also appreciate the kind and friendly staff members. We accidentally lost the luggage claim tag (and we are willing to pay for it) but they didn't charge us anything.
When we go back to Takayama, we will definitely stay here again.

Residence Hotel is one the best hotels we've stayed in starting from the welcoming staff, especially Kato, who went above and beyond to make our stay a comfortable & an forgettable one.
Our room was simply amazing, with beautiful views.
The location was so convenient, right next to Takayama Station and Nohi Bus Terminal.
There's a washing machine to do your laundry.
We would definitely stay here again and will highly recommend family and friends to stay here when in Takayama.

KKevin Ka ManThe room is spacious. It comes with a tent in a separate room with projector and surround sound system for you to enjoy netfix free of charge. It also provides lots of complimentary drinks in the fridge. You can also buy the beef from the nearby shops or supermarket to cook in the room. Breakfast choices are limited but exclusive, with order-to-make yakitori and pancake. Overall this hotel is highly recommended to families staying.
GGuest UserStayed there with as a family of 3. While I really wanted to like the ryokan due to the warm service and great feedback from friends, my own experience was a bit disappointing. We have stayed in many traditional ryokans prior to this and were familiar with the setup. We are appreciative with the warm service and sincere touches; like candies at check in, but the ryokan itself is really quite old and in need of a refresh.
Our room is tucked away in a corner and required us to go down a small flight of stairs to reach. I am not sure if the location meant that is a bit colder than the rest of the rooms but we really did feel cold and the heating was inadequate. The in built heater would also stop and beep in the middle of the night, which led 2 of us falling sick at the start of the trip. We requested for a additional small heater which helped a bit. Second night, our 9yo son also got many mysterious bites all over his leg. He claimed to have seen a bug crawl under the tatami mat but we were not certain and therefore did not feedback to the ryokan as we only had one more remaining night to go. We had only stayed 1 night in nagoya's marriott associa hotel prior to our ryokan visit, and his skin improved after we left Takayama, leading us to think that it might have been the stay there.
Ffyi guyRemote location but near to shinhotake ropeway.
Very quaint hotel. We stayed in a Japanese room.
We did not have dinner in hotel and have to step out when they make the bed for the evening. We were told we can stay in the room but felt that we got in the way. They were very efficient and it was done in under 15mins. The hotel was small and there were 2 different wings. It’s a bit troublesome to take 2 diff lifts to go to dining area/bath. Front desk was earnest but non english speaking.
The outdoor baths were really nice. You have to take a small single cabin inclined elevator that you operate on your own to get there. Otherwise a short climb/ stairs.
Breakfast was splendid and one of the best we had experienced during our trip. Ingredients were fresh and the portions were just nice.
OOh! GhiWe initially planned to visit Hida Furukawa, but we ended up spending more time than expected in Shirakawago. On a whim, we decided to stay overnight in Takayama. The hotel room here is more spacious compared to the one we had in Nagoya, and the service has been excellent, leaving us very satisfied. Although I didn't get a chance to try their hot spring, I would love to return as we thoroughly enjoyed our one-night stay. The location is convenient, being close to Takayama Station and a 7-Eleven.
GGuest UserI really really enjoy my stay. It’s a family run hotel, and has a very welcoming atmosphere. The hotel is about 2-3 minutes walk from the bus terminal, super convenient. Because of my tattoos, I chose the room with a private onsen. The room is super nice and spacious. My booking also came with breakfast and dinner, and the meals were delicious! I would definitely come back if I visit Hirayu onsen again.
MMeiyounichengdefafenghuojiThe location is very good, 8 minutes walk from Nohi Bus Station. It is a five-minute walk from Takayama Jinya, Miyagawa Morning Market, and the ancient street.
The multi-person room has two bunk beds, with a double bed underneath, enough for six people.
The bathroom is completely separated into dry and wet areas, and the toilet is also a separate small room, which is very considerate.
The only drawback is that the location of the power socket is very awkward, behind the ladder of the bunk beds, which makes charging very inconvenient.
In addition, the hotel has no elevator, and the corridors and stairs are very narrow, so two people cannot pass at the same time. If you have large luggage, please pay attention.
In short, this hotel is still worth recommending!
GGuest UserThe location of the Japanese Mountain Hot Spring Hotel is quite good. The hotel has mixed bathing. Friends, enjoy the morning bath. There is a rushing stream under the hotel. You can take photos and check in early. It is very beautiful.
BBread1The B&B in the temple has a super large room, separate guest bedroom and independent corridor. I booked a room with an independent bathroom, which is very comfortable. It was the heavy snow season, and there is no floor heating in Japan. It was cold to walk barefoot on the tatami in the public area. The next morning, I felt the chanting ceremony, followed the master to recite the Japanese version of the Heart Sutra, and listened to the master in fluent English to say what color is emptiness. The experience was full. The transportation is also convenient, and the train station is only a 6-7 minute walk away. There is no meal in the temple, but there is a self-service kitchen. We went to the supermarket to buy Hida beef and fried it ourselves, which was super value.
GGUOWEIBreakfast was good, but the Japanese-style room 2010 was a bit dated! On February 2nd, the Shirakawa-mura Lighting Festival, the house price doubled more than 3,000 a night! There is a theft in booking a room in Japan: the room is charged according to the number of people. This room can accommodate 3 to 6 people. You can book 3 people for 4 people and 3 or 4 people for 5 people. living!
