Metropolo Xin Cheng Hotel, The Bund Shanghai

It was a great stay! The bund view is something that made this stay very special. Check-in was a bit tiresome and the the staff was not always really friendly, even though we just asked a question. But well, that did not impact the overall experience too much. Nice room, clean and a great location!!! Go there if you are in Shanghai.

Chose this hotel just to experience a stay inside historical building 😄 Hotel was built in 1930s and is certified as “Heritage architecture” of Shanghai. Very beautiful art-deco style building and matching room interiors. Rooms are exceptionally clean with all amenities available. I had a spacious room of about 30 sq.m with a comfortable king-size bed and shower (no bath tube). Location is exceptional - 5 minute walk to either The Bund or Nanjing Road with a lot of restaurants and shops around. The closest metro station is East Nanjing Road, which is at 7-10 minute walking distance. A view on Oriental Pearl Tower across the river is literally around the corner. However, staying at a historical building in the city center comes at a price 😅 The building is almost a century old and plumbing and ventilation definitely seen better days. Water pressure in the shower is rather weak and toilet flush isn’t good either. Mosquitoes or some other small flying insects might come from ventilation (though you can use a fumigator provided by hotel). The worst thing about my stay: on the day of my arrival and check-in there was some filming taking place in front of the hotel. They were shooting a commercial or a drama series scene right on the steps to the entrance so it was really difficult to navigate with luggage even with the help of hotel staff. There were a lot of people, both the crew and onlookers, and equipment and vehicles, so my taxi couldn’t get close to hotel and I had to drag my luggage through the crowd. On top of that it was my birthday and I was really anticipating a relaxing evening which didn’t happen due to all the commotion. I think hotel should have contacted me by email or via Trip com to inform about film shooting so I could adjust my time of arrival.

Very clean and nice hotel, except the ac was pretty noisy. It kept running on and off automatically with noises even the auto mode was turned off

The hotel is at very good location, within a couple minutes walk to The Bund. The hotel’s exterior is a bit old but interior is recently renovated. Daily breakfast is okay, typical Chinese cuisine breakfast. We checked in as a big group so the front desk took a bit of time to check us in given Chinese gov requirements for foreigner guests upon staying in at hotels. But they were super accommodating and friendly. Highly recommend!

First time staying here, & can't at all fault it for its location! Very short walk to all the bund attractions, & not too far from the metro station. The building & surrounding area are very art deco, which feels specifically Shanghai. In fact, I'm fairly sure I saw it in a movie recently. Rooms are nothing to write home about, but absolutely acceptable given the price compared to other Shanghai hotels. Clean, all the needed amenities. Good central place to get your head down at quite a low price.
