Aloft London Excel
4.7/563 Reviews
I stay around the Excel several times a year for events with friends or alone. I've stayed at other hotels nearby like the Crowne Plaza, Novotel, Ibis etc. but this was my first time staying at Aloft. The room is adequately sized and was quite clean. The bed linen was clean, and the carpets seemed clean as well. There were a couple of small issues with cleanliness but nothing overly off-putting. The shower needs to be re-grouted and walls need to be repainted/new wallpaper applied in some areas that had a lot of marks. The layout of the room is a little weird. The wardrobe and tea and coffee tray are at the side where the bathroom is. There's no mirror in the bedroom area, so if you want to do your hair you have to plug into the section where the kettle tray is placed and stretch the wire across. It's not a big deal, but a little inconvenient. The fixtures in the room were decent and the bed was comfy. The location is next to Prince Regent DLR, so easy to get to and from the train. The room would benefit from some sort of information booklet about the facilities at the hotel. There wasn't any information given about what was available at the hotel or any opening times of the facilities, where they were located or what you needed to do to access them. It's a hassle for guests to have to ask the front desk about this, so the information should be readily available in the room. When I checked in there was a leak in the room that I was given. I'd just come from a 15 hour journey and wanted to take a shower and relax, so this was not ideal. I told reception and they said they would send someone to take a look to see if it could be fixed. I didn't exactly see why I should sit and wait because there was a leak in the room and believe that they should have moved me immediately. They sent someone up and they took a quick look and determined it would take too long to fix and would move me to a different room. I was moved to the room next door and for the following 45 minutes all I could hear was the door slamming in the other room, I assume from them coming in and out to try and fix the issue there. It took around 30 minutes of me being in this room for me to be moved, which was really not ideal. I was offered a short apology, but no compensation for the inconvenience. The main issue I had with this hotel was the noise from other rooms and guests. On the same night that I checked in, the guests in the room next to me appeared to be having some sort of party until after 5am. They were playing music, shouting, banging things on the wall and constantly walking in and out of the room causing the door to slam loudly each time. I understand this is not particularly the fault of the hotel, at this point I was too exhausted from my trip to reach out to the hotel with another complaint. I was happy that on the 2nd night, these guests must have checked out. However, the noise from other guests was still a bit of an issue, although no one was particularly try
