Hotels near Ganshoji Temple, Tokyo

This Toyoko Inn is relatively spacious compared to others. Besides the standard desk, there's also a seating area by the window with a table and chairs. The exterior looks old, but the rooms are quite new. I booked two different room types for two nights; one room had a really strong smell, possibly from the wallpaper, while the other had almost no odor. Not sure what that was about. There are several Toyoko Inns in that area, so be careful not to go to the wrong one.

I've stayed at this hotel multiple times. It's in a great location, surrounded by delicious food options, especially a lot of barbecue restaurants... Even a perfectionist wouldn't find anything to complain about. I'll probably choose to stay here again next time. This Toyoko Inn is Building 2, which is newer than Building 1.

First of all, the host responded very quickly. Even when I messaged at 7 a.m., he responded almost immediately. The location is great. Although it takes about 10 minutes to walk from the station, you pass through a shopping street and a street full of restaurants. There's a supermarket right across from the guesthouse, so the location is absolutely ideal. Now for the room, there were some issues. It was generally clean, with no dust on the floor, but the pillows and cushions had a few small stains. The TV only plays YouTube; other services like Disney+/Netflix will kick you out. Also, there's no HDMI cable behind the TV, so you can't use your phone to project content. The guesthouse provides basic cutlery and a microwave, so it's fairly well-equipped. Also, please note that check-in time is 4:00 PM. Overall, if you don't mind the TV issue and the few stains on the pillows, it's a place you can stay. I would probably stay here again next time. For Disney+ or Netflix, it kicks you out / doesn’t let you log in. There’s also no HDMI cable behind the TV, so you can’t cast from your phone either. The place does provide basic cutlery, knives, and a microwave — so the essentials are there. One more thing to note: check-in time is 4:00 p.m. Overall, if you don’t mind the TV limitations and the minor stains on the pillows/cushions, it’s actually quite acceptable to stay here. If I come back next time, I’d probably still choose this place.

Slippers are available at the entrance. The bed is quite soft and sinks in a fair bit. The sheets on the pillow and bed were a plus. Both bath towels and face towels are provided. There's no space around the bed area to store a suitcase, so you have to leave it in the hallway or another open area. I stayed in the female dormitory, but in the changing area of the shower room (which was actually a combined bath/toilet unit), there was no towel rack (or it was broken and dangling), making it difficult to keep my clothes clean and out of the way. There were three sinks, but only one mirror, which was already in use, so I gave up on doing my makeup. If you just need a shower and a place to sleep, it's good value for money for Tokyo. However, if they're going to have a female dormitory, I think there's more they could do to improve it.

Out of the six hotels I stayed at during my 14-day trip to Japan, this hotel in Tokyo was by far the worst. Here are the main issues: 1. **Awkward Room Layout:** The room was already tiny, but the bathroom was disproportionately huge, leaving almost no space in the bedroom area. We had to move the sofa just to fit our luggage. The bed was also very small, making it cramped for two people. 2. **Terrible Soundproofing:** We could hear noises from the next room or upstairs well into 2 or 3 AM. The neighboring bed was against the wall we shared (which was a strange setup), and we could hear snoring. Every time they turned over or kicked the wall, we heard a thud. 3. **Uncomfortable Bedding:** The soft mattress combined with soft pillows made for a really poor night's sleep. On the bright side, the location was convenient, and there's a convenience store on the basement level of the hotel. However, my overall experience was still very disappointing; sleeping there felt like torture.

Extremely convenient! The airport shuttle provides direct service, and it's easy to access the subway, shopping, dining, and entertainment. A special shout-out to the front desk staff, who were always eager to help. The breakfast selection was quite good, and the room temperature, mattress, and pillows were all comfortable. The room was cleaned thoroughly every day. The only drawback was the occasional foul odor coming from the floor drain outside the bathtub. They're currently renovating, so I hope they address the drain issue. I'll definitely be back!

The rooms are quite small, but that's typical for many chain hotels in Japan, not just this one. Despite their size, they have everything you need. Overall, it's pretty good. Check-in and check-out are fully automated and very fast.
