Very nice modern Hotel in Datong old town. Liu and Leaf have been very friendly and supportive. The breakfast was varying every day and very delicious. Really comfortable place to stay while in Datong.

Our room was absolutely fantastic—spacious, comfortable, and conveniently connected to a playroom. Our kids were thrilled, and we were able to relax knowing they were happily playing nearby. The setup was perfect for our family, allowing us to rest while still keeping an eye on the little ones. Liu, in particular, was incredibly kind and helpful throughout our stay. She went above and beyond to assist us, even arranging a smooth transfer to the train station when we checked out. The hotel itself was excellent: modern, clean, and very comfortable. Its central location made it easy for us to explore the city without hassle. We highly recommend this place for families looking for convenience, comfort, and outstanding hospitality!

Fantastic collection in ancient town of Dating, wonderful renovation of a traditional building, great rooms, delicious breakfast, exquisite service & lovely staff. Mrs Liu make our visit truly lovely

Very nice and comfortable hotel in the heart of Datong ancient city. The staff is wonderful. Despite the fact that we don’t speak Chinese, they helped us from the arrival until the departure: organising transportation, trip to the suspended temple and the wooden pagoda, amazingly good breakfast, Liu is the perfect host!

The stay here is awesome!! The place is in the center of ancient town and easy to get. Hosts (Ms.Liu and Yezi) are very friendly and warm hearted. The room is clean and cozy and warm, though it’s -15 degree outside! Hosts also provided handful advise for travel here. This hotel (boutique hotel?) is one of a kind and is a really great Chinese adventure. Located in the heart of the old city is absolutely mesmerizing in every detail. Don’t even think about saving a few yuan for something cheaper, this experience is absolutely worth every yuan.

From the moment my girlfriend and I arrived, we were warmly welcomed by 刘 (Liu), who made us feel right at home. She was incredibly friendly and helpful, always available to assist with any questions we had throughout our stay—her hospitality truly elevated our experience. The hotel itself is a charming blend of coziness and comfort. The rooms were spotless and well-maintained, with a wonderful atmosphere that made it easy to relax after a day of sightseeing. The entire property exudes warmth and character, offering a peaceful retreat in the heart of Datong. One of the best aspects of the Tangfang Courtyard is its location. It’s perfectly situated for exploring the old city, with many attractions within walking distance. We enjoyed wandering through the narrow streets and discovering the rich history of the area. Another highlight was the fresh breakfast offered each morning. It was a lovely way to start the day, with a variety of delicious options to choose from. Overall, our stay was nothing short of fantastic, and I would highly recommend Tangfang Courtyard to anyone visiting Datong. What a fabulous courtyard hotel. Located in the historic town and exceptionally close to all the major sites. The room was very comfortable with a peaceful view onto the courtyard. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. Thank you to Ye Zi for arranging all our drivers, giving us tips on what sites were open and making us tea and snacks when we arrived back from a big and cold day. The breakfast is amazing and having both the tofu soup with dough sticks and noodle soup were spectacular. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to enjoy the breakfast and the beautiful atrium in the courtyard. Thank you for a wonderful experience in your fascinating city

I cannot rate Tangfang Courtyard more highly. I almost don't want to write a review and reveal it to more travellers! The photos are accurate of the elegant, beauty of this courtyard based hotel. The room was high ceilinged with wooden rafters, smart, elegant shower, bowls of fruit, spoiling bedding. It was bang in the centre of the old city, yet completely tranquil in a gorgeously authentic, but quiet street. We were greeted warmly and cosily by Yezi, who welcomed us with drinks and fruit, and really couldn't do enough for us. My son is fluent in Mandarin but I don't speak a word yet still, she was eager to help me make my dairy free coffee in the morning, quickly sorted us a great, appropriately priced driver and comfortable car to go to the hanging monastery and grottoes the next day. This is unique in that is in an authentic building, elegant, yet cosy family atmosphere with a kitchen/dining room where all guests eat round the same table. The last effort Yezi and her colleagues made was to source me some of the very striking vinegar jars unique to Datong at a moment's notice, the morning we were leaving. Bearing in the mind, this was done via Google Translate, I cannot thank you them all enough. They made our stay in Datong memorable, beyond the obvious wonders of the UNESCO sites. Thank you again to all at Tangfang Courtyard. 

I had a blissful stay at Tangyan Courtyard - every part of it was smooth (including the dreaded passport check-in, which they didn't bat an eyelid at) and there were so many unexpected details. The bath was great (and there was enough hot water to fill it ok), the bed was one of the comfiest I've encountered in China, and the property is beautiful. It's definitely worth spending a night in Datong before or after the Yungang Grottoes to stay here.
