Macau Transport

Getting around Macau is actually very easy, even for first-time visitors. The city is small, everything is close by, and most areas are connected by buses, free hotel shuttles, and even a light rail. Whether you're coming in by ferry, plane, or crossing over from Hong Kong, Zhuhai, or Shenzhen, you’ll have no problem finding transportation. In this guide, I’ll show you the simplest and most budget-friendly ways to travel around Macau, so you can enjoy your trip without any hassle.

✈️ Macau Airport Transfers

Macau Airport

When you land at Macau International Airport (MFM), getting to your hotel is simple. Whether you're heading to Taipa, Cotai, or the Macau Peninsula, there are several easy ways to travel. Just choose what fits your budget, time, and how much luggage you have.

🚌 Public Bus from the Airport

You’ll find bus stops just outside the arrival area on the lower floor. Buses go to major areas like Taipa, Cotai, Macau Peninsula, ferry terminals, and the border gate.

  • Fare: MOP 6.0 (around PHP 40 or SGD 1.00). Prepare exact coins or use a Macau Pass.
  • Travel Time: About 20 to 30 minutes to Taipa or Cotai. It takes a bit longer to reach the Macau Peninsula.
  • Operating Hours: Most buses run from 6:00 AM until midnight.
  • Tip: Good for solo or light travelers. It can get crowded during peak hours.

🚖 Taxi

Taxi stands are located right outside the airport exit. All taxis are metered, so you pay based on distance.

  • Estimated Cost:
    • Taipa or Cotai hotels: around MOP 30 to 50 (about PHP 200 to 350)
    • Macau Peninsula: around MOP 60 to 100 (about PHP 400 to 700)
  • Travel Time: About 10 to 20 minutes depending on traffic.
  • Tip: Not all drivers speak English. It helps to show your hotel address in Chinese.

🚗 Hotel Shuttle or Private Car

Many large hotels in Macau offer shuttle buses or private car services. These usually pick you up right at the airport arrivals area.

  • Travel Time: Around 15 to 25 minutes.
  • Cost:
    • Hotel shuttles: Usually free if you’re a guest. Just show your booking.
    • Private cars: More costly than taxis but more comfortable, especially if you have big luggage or are with family.
  • Tip: Some hotel shuttles need to be booked ahead. Double-check with your hotel.

The hotel is located halfway up a hill, and there's a dedicated shuttle bus from the Border Gate, but it runs on a fixed schedule, so it's best to confirm the times with the hotel in advance. The room facilities are excellent overall, the view from the window is beautiful, and the check-in experience was great. We encountered a few issues during our stay, but the Trip.com staff were incredibly responsive and had an excellent service attitude. I really trust Trip.com when booking hotel stays.

Accor hotels never disappoint me. I've stayed at many Sofitel properties in various countries, and they're always excellent. This one is perfectly located on Macau Peninsula, with easy walking access to fantastic food options like local eateries, cafes, restaurants, and markets. The casino being closed actually made it quieter, which was a plus. While the hotel facilities are a bit dated, they are immaculately maintained, clearly showing its past grandeur. I'll definitely stay here again; it's incredibly convenient. The front desk service was also superb.

The hotel has a very European-style decor and a classic vibe, but that doesn't stop it from being clean and comfortable. It's not as bustling as casino hotels, and the rooms are odor-free and tidy; even the sofas are spotless. The in-room amenities are comprehensive, with a coffee maker, dressing table, and several small coffee tables, plus a sofa. The bed is incredibly comfortable, and so are the pillows—as someone very picky about beds and pillows, I was thoroughly impressed. It's within walking distance of the Science Centre; just exit through the back door and you'll see the Sands, then it's a straightforward walk to the Science Centre. It's also close to the Automobile Museum. A great quiet spot amidst the hustle and bustle.

Check-in was smooth, but I had to wait an hour, and the luggage storage staff weren't very friendly. The lady who gave me my room card was excellent; she gave me a fantastic room on the 11th floor with a beautiful night view and even thoughtfully asked if I needed children's toiletries. The shuttle bus was very convenient, getting to the Border Gate (Guanzai) was super easy, and the staff were welcoming and even helped with my luggage. The hotel lobby also has many shops, so no need to worry about food. There's a Japanese supermarket that sells a lot of snacks.

Unexpectedly, I was very satisfied! I'd prepared myself for the Grand Lisboa being old, but I was pleasantly surprised by how great the value for money was, both in terms of service and facilities.👍 Although some areas of the hotel were under renovation, it didn't significantly impact my stay. I thought the room size would be small when I booked it, but it was actually perfectly adequate. It had a desk and even a small tea area with three soft, large armchairs – very comfortable! The bathroom was beautiful! It's a shame I didn't take photos. Even though it wasn't a smart toilet, it was still comfortable. A special, key highlight is the staff! Super professional and enthusiastic! 100 points! Full marks! 💯 Detailed, specific, and professional! There's a shuttle bus from the hotel to the airport; you just need to book it a day in advance. 😊

The hotel was very comfortable, and the room was excellent. It was clean, well-maintained, and beautifully decorated. The overall design of the hotel felt spacious and relaxing, making our stay very enjoyable. Another big plus is the location. Just next to the hotel, there is a place with delicious food at very reasonable prices. We ended up having many of our meals there, which was very convenient. I would also like to specially mention the doormen at the entrance, Jerald and Abe. Jerald kindly helped us book a taxi using his phone, and thanks to his quick assistance, we were able to make it in time for the 5:00 pm House of Dancing Water show. Abe was very attentive and would quickly come over to help us with our luggage whenever he saw us carrying it. We truly appreciate their kindness, professionalism, and excellent service, which made our stay even more pleasant.

This is my second time in Macau. Last time I stayed at The Parisian, but The Venetian this time? In three words: absolutely fantastic! 👏🌟 Firstly, the exterior is magnificent, and it's connected to The Londoner and The Parisian. Secondly, I stayed in a North Wing suite on the 30th floor this time. The room was huge, and everything from the bed and sofa to the bathroom was satisfying. The bathroom even had a vanity table, which was a nice touch. Furthermore, the service was well-organized, fast, and convenient. The day before, I stayed in Hong Kong at what turned out to be a 'fake' five-star hotel. This time, as soon as I arrived at the front desk, even though it was still midday, three staff members immediately assisted me. They confirmed my luggage storage, room preferences, and provided a detailed map with clear explanations. This allowed us to drop off our bags and start exploring right away. Plus, the room number was sent via SMS, room cards were issued in advance, and our luggage was delivered directly to the room. I can only say everything was perfect! Also, The Venetian's buffet breakfast offered a wide variety of delicious options. They had pan-fried salmon and 'Buddha Jumps Over the Wall,' and I even found my favorite peach gum and white fungus soup. Everyone, from the security guards at the casino entrance to the staff in the restaurants and lobby, was incredibly nice. If the bottled water in the room ran out, you just scanned a code, and a server would bring it to your door instantly. Of course, my favorite part was the gondola ride. The artificial blue sky above was so realistic and beautiful! 🤩 A truly memorable experience.

But I don’t like the smell of our room because I don’t smoke. The bed was comfortable. Few meters away, you can take a bus to Macau Immigration when going to HK. Also, walking distance to bus stations ,Grand Lisbon and Senado Square. Excellent location!

Arrived around 7 PM and unfortunately, there were no non-smoking floors left, so there was a slight odor. There were also many guests checking in at the same time, which led to a bit of a wait. However, the hotel's location is convenient, with a small park downstairs. The room was spacious, and the bed was large, making it comfortable for a family trip with children and seniors.

The service was good, and the hygiene was excellent. The room was spacious and offered a prime sea view behind Wynn, with glimpses of the Grand Lisboa and Macau Tower diagonally opposite. I paid an extra 50 MOP for a room upgrade. My only regret was the shuttle service from Gongbei Port – I couldn't find the driver and waited for a long time with no one showing up, eventually having to take a taxi to the hotel. The front desk mentioned they only offer drop-off, not pick-up. On my last day, when I tried to book a shuttle to the Border Gate, the concierge informed me that even with a reservation, there might not be a spot available as several hotels share the service. I hope they can improve their shuttle service; everything else was great and offered good value for money.

The hotel is located in Macau Peninsula's old town and is generally quite small. The room amenities are all there. I didn't dare to use the bathtub, but the bathroom came with a floor mat and a non-slip grab bar, which is something older Macanese hotels do better than both new and old hotels in mainland China. The hotel is relatively close to the Macao Polytechnic University and the Grand Prix Museum, about a ten-minute walk. It's also not far from the Ruins of St. Paul's, a walk of a little over ten minutes. Getting to Wynn Palace or Fisherman's Wharf is further and requires a taxi. This time, any journey over twenty minutes by foot, I took a taxi, but I didn't get to ride the **bus**. The hotel has a Cantonese restaurant, Jin Man Xuan, on the first floor, with prices similar to Cantonese restaurants in Shenzhen. The Macau Tower and the double-decker sightseeing bus require advance booking, so I'll save those for next time when I bring the kids to Macau! Next time, I'll definitely spend a bit more and stay on Taipa Island.

Our standard twin room faced the garden, which was perfect for photos – even for those of us who aren't photography pros! The staff provided clear and informative service, truly five-star quality. Plus, they offer shuttle services to places like the Grand Lisboa on Macau Peninsula and various border gates. All in all, a fantastic stay!

Switched from Studio City to Galaxy, and the contrast is stark. Galaxy's service is absolutely outstanding, from being escorted to check-in to the front desk staff walking us to the elevator after we were done. I used to think this level of service was standard for larger hotels, but Studio City was so disappointing, making the difference incredibly obvious. My kids absolutely loved the Grand Resort Deck; it's a fantastic option for children from the North wanting to play in the water during long holidays. **Facilities**: Very well-maintained; everything still looks new. **Hygiene**: Even for someone like me who's quite particular about cleanliness, it was great. **Environment**: There's a casino downstairs that the elderly enjoyed, and the kids also loved the Kids' Club. The old town is nearby too, a popular spot for photos, just across the road, which is super convenient. **Service**: Very satisfied.

I've been wanting to stay at this hotel for a long time, and I finally got the chance in Macau! The room layout is incredibly well-designed, and you can tell the hotel put a lot of thought into every detail. The 'fan' shaped chocolates were a delicious treat, and the Tower View room offered breathtaking scenery. I particularly loved the double vanity, which was a very convenient touch for guests. Coming back to the hotel at night felt just like coming home. The slippers were neatly placed, there was a sleep-aid tea on the coffee table, and a sweet dreams roll-on on the bedside table – every little detail felt warm and thoughtful. Since it was our anniversary, the hotel went the extra mile to decorate the room and even left a handwritten congratulatory card. It was incredibly thoughtful. Traveling with family, we booked two standard rooms. The beds are 1.2 meters wide, which was fine for squeezing in with the kids. The buffet is a great deal: breakfast is 65 MOP per person, and lunch is 98 MOP per person. There's a good variety of dishes, and the food tastes pretty good – much better than the small shops outside, especially for breakfast. Snacks downstairs easily cost 60-80 MOP, so 65 MOP for so many options is a steal. Plus, with the Alipay discount of 5 MOP per order, it works out to about 50 RMB per person. The hotel rooms are pretty standard; you get two bottles of mineral water and typical toiletries. The hotel shuttle usually starts around noon (the Border Gate route starts a bit earlier, at 11:25 AM, then runs every half hour or so, and every 15 minutes during peak times).

One of the best things about visiting Macau is how easy it is to go to nearby cities like Hong Kong, Zhuhai, and Shenzhen. Thanks to its location along the Pearl River Delta, you have several transport options that are fast and simple to use.

🚤 Macau to Hong Kong

Ferry Macau to Hong Kong

Getting from Macau to Hong Kong is very easy. High-speed ferries run often and connect Macau’s Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal and Taipa Ferry Terminal to Sheung Wan on Hong Kong Island and the China Ferry Terminal in Kowloon.

  • Travel time: Around 55 to 70 minutes by ferry
  • Schedule: Ferries leave every 30 to 60 minutes during the day
  • Tip: Book tickets early on weekends or holidays, as they sell out fast

🚶‍♂️ Macau to Zhuhai

Zhuhai Golden Bus

Zhuhai is right next to Macau and is the closest mainland China city. You can easily cross the border either by foot, shuttle bus, or taxi through the Gongbei Border Gate or Lotus Checkpoint.

  • Travel time: Around 10 to 20 minutes depending on the queue
  • Transport options: Shuttle bus, taxi, or walking
  • Tip: Bring your passport and check visa rules for entering mainland China

🚌 Macau to Shenzhen

Ferry Macau to Shenzhen

Shenzhen is a bit farther but still easy to reach. You can take a direct bus or go by ferry to Hong Kong, then transfer to the train going to Shenzhen. Another option is crossing the Gongbei Border and taking a train from Zhuhai.

  • By bus: Around 2 to 3 hours
  • By ferry and train combo: Around 1.5 to 2 hours
  • Tip: The bus is more direct, but the ferry plus train route is more flexible if you also plan to visit Hong Kong
🥳 Pro Tip: Getting a China eSIM can help you stay connected while traveling in China.

FAQs about Macau Transport

  • What is the best way to get around Macau?
