Macau Transport

Getting around Macau is actually very easy, even for first-time visitors. The city is small, everything is close by, and most areas are connected by buses, free hotel shuttles, and even a light rail. Whether you're coming in by ferry, plane, or crossing over from Hong Kong, Zhuhai, or Shenzhen, you’ll have no problem finding transportation. In this guide, I’ll show you the simplest and most budget-friendly ways to travel around Macau, so you can enjoy your trip without any hassle.

✈️ Macau Airport Transfers

Macau Airport

When you land at Macau International Airport (MFM), getting to your hotel is simple. Whether you're heading to Taipa, Cotai, or the Macau Peninsula, there are several easy ways to travel. Just choose what fits your budget, time, and how much luggage you have.

🚌 Public Bus from the Airport

You’ll find bus stops just outside the arrival area on the lower floor. Buses go to major areas like Taipa, Cotai, Macau Peninsula, ferry terminals, and the border gate.

  • Fare: MOP 6.0 (around PHP 40 or SGD 1.00). Prepare exact coins or use a Macau Pass.
  • Travel Time: About 20 to 30 minutes to Taipa or Cotai. It takes a bit longer to reach the Macau Peninsula.
  • Operating Hours: Most buses run from 6:00 AM until midnight.
  • Tip: Good for solo or light travelers. It can get crowded during peak hours.

🚖 Taxi

Taxi stands are located right outside the airport exit. All taxis are metered, so you pay based on distance.

  • Estimated Cost:
    • Taipa or Cotai hotels: around MOP 30 to 50 (about PHP 200 to 350)
    • Macau Peninsula: around MOP 60 to 100 (about PHP 400 to 700)
  • Travel Time: About 10 to 20 minutes depending on traffic.
  • Tip: Not all drivers speak English. It helps to show your hotel address in Chinese.

🚗 Hotel Shuttle or Private Car

Many large hotels in Macau offer shuttle buses or private car services. These usually pick you up right at the airport arrivals area.

  • Travel Time: Around 15 to 25 minutes.
  • Cost:
    • Hotel shuttles: Usually free if you’re a guest. Just show your booking.
    • Private cars: More costly than taxis but more comfortable, especially if you have big luggage or are with family.
  • Tip: Some hotel shuttles need to be booked ahead. Double-check with your hotel.

We booked a family room and a triple room. We told the front desk that we wanted to check in at 3 PM, but they hadn't given us the room cards by then. We got one room first, and the triple room across the hall was still being cleaned. We wanted to be next to each other, but the front desk staff had a really bad attitude and told us it didn't matter where we slept since we weren't sleeping together anyway. We found out that a former leader had stayed here before. That's why our family room was upgraded to a 'sea view' room, but the view outside was just mediocre.

This hotel is conveniently located directly opposite Zhuhai Wanzai Pier's inner bay, close to Macau's main island attractions like Senado Square, the Ruins of St. Paul's, and Camoes Garden. Currently, the casino downstairs isn't operating, so from Gongbei Port or Qingmao Port, you'll need to take a bus or taxi to get here. There are many bus routes passing right by the entrance, and they run frequently, which is very convenient. The hotel lobby has an old-money aesthetic. The room size is decent, and the bathroom is large, with a separate shower and toilet, and it's very clean. They don't provide bottled water, but there's a water purifier in the room where you can choose the water temperature, which is a great touch.

I had a wonderful experience at this hotel. The location is perfect, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the overall atmosphere is very relaxing. However, what truly set this stay apart was the exceptional service provided by a member of your team, Edgar. From the moment we arrived, Edgar went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. He handled our check-in with a genuine smile and was incredibly helpful with recommendations for local restaurants and things to do in the area. His positive attitude and professionalism are a true asset to your hotel. It's rare to meet someone so dedicated to making sure guests have the best possible experience. Thank you, Edgar, for your kindness and for helping make our trip so memorable. We will definitely be back!

The food options are quite convenient, and the hotel's location is great for catching the House of Dancing Water show. However, the soundproofing isn't great. You can clearly hear children running and shouting in the hallways, which I don't think is up to par for a five-star hotel; that was a real downside. The complimentary water and minibar drinks were decent. There's a bit of a view from outside, but unfortunately, the Ferris wheel was out of service for maintenance when I visited, so I didn't get to ride it.

I spent a few days in Macau during Chinese New Year and chose The Parisian Macao. The experience far exceeded my expectations – it's definitely my top choice for a relaxing getaway and picture-perfect moments. 📍 **Location & Transportation**: Located in the heart of the Cotai Strip, it's connected to The Venetian and The Londoner by indoor walkways. You can explore all three resorts without needing an umbrella, even on a rainy day. There's a free shuttle bus directly to the border gates and airport, making travel super convenient. 🏨 **Lobby & Rooms**: The 35-meter high French-style dome mural and crystal chandeliers give you an immediate sense of being transported to Paris the moment you walk in. Every snapshot is a hit on social media! The rooms are clean and comfortable, with skin-friendly bedding and exquisite bathroom amenities. Soundproofing and cleanliness are excellent. The front desk is responsive, and you can store your luggage for free. 🍽️ **Dining**: The hotel offers a variety of dining options with different cuisines, price points, and atmospheres to suit every guest's preference. During our stay, we dined most frequently at the 'Colourful Flavor' restaurant on the first floor. They have freshly made Cantonese dim sum and Western cold dishes. The prices are moderate, and the portions are generous and delicious. 📸 **Must-Visit Spots**: Don't miss the free observation deck on the 7th floor of the Eiffel Tower for sunset and city views; capture the Eiffel Tower's reflection by the pool; and take an upward shot of the lobby dome for maximum ambiance. **Friendly Tip**: The shuttle bus can have queues during peak hours, so allow plenty of time. Overall, it's perfect for couples and family trips, offering romance, shopping, dining, and convenient transportation all in one place. Highly recommended!

The hotel staff were incredibly warm and accommodating. We wanted to switch to a smoking room, and they went out of their way to keep an eye out for one for us. They even called to follow up on whether we still wanted to switch. When we asked for directions to the car, they guided us directly there! However, the room facilities are a bit dated, especially the carpets in the guest room hallways, which look very old and are quite unpleasant to see. We hope for a renovation to welcome guests with a fresh new look.

Overall, it was a great experience. We arrived early in the morning and stored our luggage, then checked in in the evening. The breakfast quality was excellent. The only downside was that I had purchased breakfast for two on my app, and when checking in, I was asked if my child needed breakfast. The staff told me that a 4-year-old didn't need one. However, when my husband took our child to eat breakfast, a staff member yelled at the child to leave. This really knocks off a star. They could have let the child go in first and then spoken to the father for payment.

Upon check-in, the front desk said I was upgraded, but I'm not sure how much of a difference it made. The good thing is the room was spacious and looked grand at first glance, but upon closer inspection, it felt rather empty. The facilities felt outdated, with basic toiletries provided. The bathroom was also very large, but the toilet seat wasn't even a smart bidet, and the floor tiles were old and stained. When I ran out of bottled water at night, I called the front desk, but no one answered. Besides the guy checking room cards at the entrance by the downstairs elevator, I didn't see any other staff members. There was a complete lack of service. It was my birthday on the day of check-in, and the hotel didn't acknowledge it or even offer a greeting. The 'Emperor's Dim Sum' restaurant downstairs was expensive and unappetizing. Also, when in Macau, you'd expect to visit the casino, right? My partner spent over an hour trying to figure out how a beginner could get chips to play, and there was no clear process or information desk for new guests. I chose The Venetian because it's supposed to have everything – dining, accommodation, entertainment, and shopping – even if the room rates are higher than elsewhere. However, overall, my experience at The Venetian this time was disappointing, and I won't be staying at this expensive hotel again. I suggest they seriously learn from Japan's service philosophy to improve their service quality and figure out how to give guests a true 'home away from home' experience.

The room was excellent: spacious, clean, bright, and very comfortable. The Wi-Fi worked perfectly, and there were no issues with the room itself or the comfort of the stay. However, the level of welcome was completely inconsistent with the hotel's standard and price. First, they required a deposit upon check-in. This seems odd for a hotel of this category, especially since they simply refuse to let you in without one. Second, check-in is only until 3:00 PM. For me, that's quite late—I travel a lot, and at hotels of this caliber, I often find more flexible or early check-in. Overall, the room itself and the accommodations were very good, but the check-in process left a bad impression.

I had a truly fantastic stay! I usually stay in Taipa, but this time I chose Harbourview Hotel since I was visiting the Grand Prix Museum the next day, and I was pleasantly surprised. Huge thanks to the hotel for upgrading me to a suite – the room was incredibly spacious, and most importantly, it was spotless and well-maintained. I'll definitely book here again on my next trip to Macau. It's super convenient; you can take the Sands shuttle and just cross the road, or use public transport as there's a bus stop right opposite the hotel. There are water dispensers in the hallway, though only cold water, which was perfectly fine.

This time, I made a last-minute booking at Holiday Inn Macau. During check-in, Mr. Wang at the front desk was professional and efficient. After understanding my situation, he proactively upgraded me to an executive floor suite. He wasn't overtly enthusiastic, but his attention to detail made me feel genuinely valued. It happened to be the fourth day of the ***** New Year, and in the morning, the hotel had a lion dance and a 'God of Wealth' performance. The atmosphere was lively but not chaotic – a nice, ceremonial touch. The executive floor was relatively quiet, making for a comfortable and relaxing stay overall. What truly left an impression on me was what happened afterward. After checking out, I realized I had left my ring in the room, which naturally made me anxious. Upon contacting the hotel, the housekeeping manager quickly helped confirm its location and retrieve it. The entire communication process was efficient, and the sense of reassurance brought by such professionalism was more important than any physical amenity.

The breakfast was pretty mediocre, kind of like what you'd expect from a 3-star hotel or a budget chain in mainland China. My neighbors were a bit noisy, even though it was brief, it was still pretty awkward; my kid was blushing. Everything else was fine. The food at the ice cream parlor downstairs was delicious. The curry was light and suited my taste, and the crispy bone noodles were really good and worth recommending. The service was also very attentive.

Booked this last minute right before my trip. I specifically looked for a hotel close to the fireworks show, which explains the higher price. However, the room I was given was smaller than others I've stayed in before, with a tiny window – two-thirds of it was just a wall! Maybe they gave me this room because I booked through a platform at a lower price than their walk-in rate. If I hadn't been so tired from shopping and traveling with a child, I would have gone back downstairs to complain. This experience has significantly lowered my opinion of Regal Hotels. I definitely won't choose Regal again at this price point in the future!

The hotel service was excellent. The front desk helped us with change, which saved us from an awkward situation with the taxi driver. They also upgraded us to a sea-view room, where we could see the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. Although there was construction downstairs, it didn't disturb our rest; there was barely any noise. This was my first time in Macau, and I blindly chose Grand Lisboa Palace. We stayed for two nights, and it offered great value for money – truly an amazing experience! The hotel is relatively new. Our room was spacious and airy, and the bedding was so soft and comfortable that I slept like a log until I woke up naturally. We specifically booked a room with a sofa bed, and the hotel thoughtfully made it up for our child. This gave each of us a separate space, allowing for quiet relaxation without disturbing each other – exactly the kind of laid-back vibe a vacation should have! The garden on the 3rd floor of the hotel is absolutely stunning; every photo we took turned out beautifully! All the drinks and snacks in the mini-bar were complimentary, which was a fantastic bonus. Although the location isn't in the city center, its advantage lies in being quiet and less crowded, free from the hustle and bustle of downtown. It perfectly captures a resort-like island vacation atmosphere, making it ideal for families with kids. Wynn Palace is just a 10-minute walk away, which was super convenient for exploring its gardens. Downstairs, there's a huge variety of food options, so we never had to worry about meals. Overall, it was clean, comfortable, hassle-free, and relaxing. It’s a budget-friendly way to enjoy the city and gives you time to really see the local streets, old buildings, and yummy street food at your own pace.

Walking is perfect if you love taking photos, trying snacks, or finding quiet little streets that buses and taxis usually skip. Just wear comfy shoes and bring a water bottle, especially on hot days.

🌏 Traveling from Macau to Other Cities

One of the best things about visiting Macau is how easy it is to go to nearby cities like Hong Kong, Zhuhai, and Shenzhen. Thanks to its location along the Pearl River Delta, you have several transport options that are fast and simple to use.

Getting from Macau to Hong Kong is very easy. High-speed ferries run often and connect Macau’s Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal and Taipa Ferry Terminal to Sheung Wan on Hong Kong Island and the China Ferry Terminal in Kowloon.

  • Travel time: Around 55 to 70 minutes by ferry
  • Schedule: Ferries leave every 30 to 60 minutes during the day
  • Tip: Book tickets early on weekends or holidays, as they sell out fast
