Author's Profile Picture
Macau Transport

Getting around Macau is actually very easy, even for first-time visitors. The city is small, everything is close by, and most areas are connected by buses, free hotel shuttles, and even a light rail. Whether you're coming in by ferry, plane, or crossing over from Hong Kong, Zhuhai, or Shenzhen, you’ll have no problem finding transportation. In this guide, I’ll show you the simplest and most budget-friendly ways to travel around Macau, so you can enjoy your trip without any hassle.

✈️ Macau Airport Transfers

Macau Airport

When you land at Macau International Airport (MFM), getting to your hotel is simple. Whether you're heading to Taipa, Cotai, or the Macau Peninsula, there are several easy ways to travel. Just choose what fits your budget, time, and how much luggage you have.

🚌 Public Bus from the Airport

You’ll find bus stops just outside the arrival area on the lower floor. Buses go to major areas like Taipa, Cotai, Macau Peninsula, ferry terminals, and the border gate.

  • Fare: MOP 6.0 (around PHP 40 or SGD 1.00). Prepare exact coins or use a Macau Pass.
  • Travel Time: About 20 to 30 minutes to Taipa or Cotai. It takes a bit longer to reach the Macau Peninsula.
  • Operating Hours: Most buses run from 6:00 AM until midnight.
  • Tip: Good for solo or light travelers. It can get crowded during peak hours.

🚖 Taxi

Taxi stands are located right outside the airport exit. All taxis are metered, so you pay based on distance.

  • Estimated Cost:
    • Taipa or Cotai hotels: around MOP 30 to 50 (about PHP 200 to 350)
    • Macau Peninsula: around MOP 60 to 100 (about PHP 400 to 700)
  • Travel Time: About 10 to 20 minutes depending on traffic.
  • Tip: Not all drivers speak English. It helps to show your hotel address in Chinese.

🚗 Hotel Shuttle or Private Car

Many large hotels in Macau offer shuttle buses or private car services. These usually pick you up right at the airport arrivals area.

  • Travel Time: Around 15 to 25 minutes.
  • Cost:
    • Hotel shuttles: Usually free if you’re a guest. Just show your booking.
    • Private cars: More costly than taxis but more comfortable, especially if you have big luggage or are with family.
  • Tip: Some hotel shuttles need to be booked ahead. Double-check with your hotel.

🚇 Macau Light Rail (MLRT)

Macau Light Rail

The Macau Light Rail is one of the easiest ways to get around Taipa and the Cotai Strip, especially if your hotel is near casinos, shopping malls, or tourist spots. It is clean, fast, and beginner-friendly. The train connects directly to the airport, ferry terminal, resorts, and Taipa Village, which makes it very convenient for first-time visitors.

🛤️ Route and Key Stops

The MLRT currently has only one line called the Taipa Line. It has 12 stops, starting from Taipa Ferry Terminal to Mom Pavilion. Some of the useful stops include:

  • Macau International Airport
  • Casino resorts in Cotai
  • Shopping malls
  • Taipa Village
  • Guan Ye Street

If your hotel is located along Taipa or Cotai, the light rail is a fast way to check in and drop off your bags.

🕒 Operating Hours and Frequency

  • First Train
    • Monday to Friday: 6:30 AM
    • Weekends and Public Holidays: 6:30 AM
  • Last Train

  • Solo travelers or couples
  • Tourists staying in Cotai or Taipa

  • Last trains leave before midnight. If you stay out late, you may need to take a taxi back.
  • Some stations may require a short walk to your hotel, so wear comfortable shoes.

🚌 Public Buses in Macau

Public Buses in Macau

💳 How to Pay for the Bus

  • Travelers on a tight budget
  • Solo travelers or backpackers

⚠️ Things to Keep in Mind

  • You must pay the exact amount when using cash
  • Buses can be crowded, especially during peak hours
  • It might be difficult to bring large luggage on board
  • Some trips may take longer than taking a taxi or light rail

Booked the family room with an adjoining kids' room. The room was quite spacious, and the night view of the Macau Tower from the sea-facing window was beautiful. They even gave us three delicious egg tarts! The only downside is that it's a bit out of the way, and the uphill walk can be tiring. However, there's a bus stop right in front of the hotel.

This was my first time staying at your hotel, and I'd like to thank Mark for arranging the room. The dinner buffet was rich and delicious, and the breakfast buffet was even better! It's a shame it rained, so I couldn't visit many places. I'll definitely book Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16 again next time.

This is a great hotel with excellent value for money. It's right next to the Sands Hotel; you can take the Sands shuttle from Gongbei Port, and after getting off, the hotel's back entrance is just across the road. It's also only a 10-minute walk to the Macao Science Center. If you want to explore the city center, public transport is convenient; to get to The Venetian, you can take a shuttle from the Sands Hotel. The hotel has a lovely Portuguese flair, with a swimming pool and a gym. The rooms remind me of the Royal Park Hotel in Hong Kong. The front desk staff were very polite, attentive, and warm. Seeing that I was traveling alone with my child, they proactively asked if I needed a king or twin beds and checked for available rooms for early check-in. When I needed extra water or pillows, housekeeping responded very quickly. The restaurant service was also great, with a nice Nanyang (Southeast Asian) style. Breakfast was busy, requiring a short wait, and the dishes were more Western, but my child said the bread and pastries were delicious, and there was a good selection of juices. The lobby staff were also excellent; they proactively opened doors for guests and even gently reminded children not to run in the lobby. The only thing I think could be improved is that the mattress and pillows are a bit too soft.

Facilities: The hotel lobby and elevators all have a pleasant, high-end fragrance. The hotel's transportation is convenient with a shuttle bus service, and it's about a 15-minute ride from the airport. Cleanliness: Meets the standards for the hotel's price; it is indeed very clean. Environment: The Broadway style is noticeable as soon as you enter the hotel. StarWorld and Broadway Macau are connected, making the hotel a one-stop destination for shopping, a water park, a Ferris wheel, dining, and even a concert venue. It's perfect for families with children who want to stay and play within the hotel for a few days. Service: Housekeeping is prompt every day, and the service is very timely and enthusiastic.

People always compare Macau to Las Vegas, but let me tell you right now: Macau and the hotels on the Cotai Strip are in a league of their own. Having been to Vegas a few dozen times, I’m used to hotels feeling smoky and chaotic. This was the exact opposite. We took the free, direct Parisian shuttle bus straight from the Macau Port, and from the moment we arrived to the time we checked in, everything was incredibly smooth and organized. I can't even imagine what a seamless experience like this would cost in Vegas. To top it off, they gave us a complimentary upgrade to an Eiffel Tower view room absolutely stunning! We were already loving the service. Plus, as a fantastic perk, hotel guests get free access to the Eiffel Tower deck, which was an awesome bonus. The room was immaculate; my wife immediately noticed how spotless the all-Italian marble bathroom was. From the registration hall to the lobby, the fine paintings and decor feel ultra-premium. The main reason I picked this hotel was for the kids' pool and water slides. Vegas isn't exactly built for kids, but The Parisian makes families feel so welcome. The pool area was amazingly fun, and with lifeguards stationed everywhere, it was clear that safety is their number one priority. Another huge perk is that it's connected to the other Sands hotels like The Venetian and The Londoner. You can walk from hotel to hotel without ever stepping outside, giving you access to endless high-end luxury shops and incredible restaurants. On top of that, the hotel offers free shuttle services to all the popular tourist destinations around the city, like Senado Square, making sightseeing incredibly easy and budget-friendly. Given how amazing the experience was, you'd think it would cost an arm and a leg. But visiting in July, it was incredibly affordable roughly the same price as staying at a decent hotel off the strip in Vegas. We will definitely be coming back!

This hotel is located in the heart of the bustling commercial district, making it super convenient for getting around and shopping. The trendy, artistic decor is very unique, and the guest rooms are spacious and clean, equipped with all the latest smart technology. The bedding is soft, and the bathroom amenities are top-notch. The common areas include a pool and a gym, which are really practical. My only minor complaint is that the lower floors facing the street can be a bit noisy; higher floors offer a better experience. The front desk staff is very responsive, and overall, it offers great value for money, perfect for young travelers on a short stay.

The hotel's location is excellent. This is my second stay here. It's within walking distance to attractions like the Ruins of St. Paul's, Monte Fort, the Macau Museum, and Senado Square. Downstairs, there's a bus stop, restaurants, and convenience stores. You can also take a direct bus to Taipa Village. The hotel provides power outlets compatible with mainland Chinese standards. The breakfast spread is extensive, and the chia seed pudding is particularly delicious.

I arrived in the evening, so check-in was quick with no queues. There was a 500 deposit, which was promptly returned after check-out. I'd requested a non-smoking and quiet room, and they absolutely delivered on both. The air conditioning in the room was incredibly quiet at night, which was a blessing for someone like me with sleep issues. There are plenty of places to eat around the hotel, and it's super convenient for shopping. The bathroom was spacious, and the shower had great water pressure – very comfortable. The only downsides were that the shampoo and shower gel weren't great (I ended up buying my own from the supermarket), and I found the low ceilings a bit oppressive, especially with the dark carpet. However, the pillows and duvet were very comfortable. The mattress was an older spring type and quite bouncy, but it was fine sleeping alone.

First time staying at this hotel! I'd passed by it before and thought it looked nice, so I took the opportunity to experience it this time! As soon as we entered the lobby, the front desk staff at check-in were very enthusiastic! They even upgraded our room! We were so touched! The room was great and very quiet! The sea view was private yet open. We originally booked without breakfast, but my family suggested we eat breakfast before heading back, so we bought two breakfast buffets at the lobby service desk. There were so many food choices, and the taste was excellent! A really good experience 👍 Hope to come again next time ☺️

The hotel's location is great, with plenty of restaurants, convenience stores, and supermarkets nearby on the ground floor. The only downside was the poor pricing on Trip.com. I had to cancel my reservation due to a change in plans, and Trip.com immediately charged me a 100 cancellation fee! When I asked the hotel front desk, they said I could check in or cancel without any issues. Soon after, I received calls from two customer service agents. The female agent was helpful and offered solutions, but the male agent was rude, saying, 'This is a fee charged by the agent; I'm helping you negotiate, understand?' It's ridiculous that a big platform like Trip.com has to defer to these 'agents'! No wonder people around me say Trip.com is going downhill and struggling. I will never use this terrible platform again.

The room was quite spacious, and there were plenty of power outlets, which was very convenient as no adapters were needed. The hotel staff were all very enthusiastic and helpful. The location is excellent, just a short distance from the Grand Lisboa. We took a shuttle from Grand Lisboa Palace, where we had dinner and shopped, then caught another shuttle to Grand Lisboa, and it was just a 5-minute walk to the Metropark Hotel. There are restaurants next to the hotel, and on Rua de Outubro, behind the hotel, there's a bus that goes directly to the Border Gate, making transportation very convenient. It's also a leisurely 10-15 minute walk to the Ruins of St. Paul's. I haven't included internal photos as they are quite standard; the exterior shots provided were taken from inside the room, offering a wide, open view. The complimentary bottled water was a bit too small.

I'm a native Macanese, and this time I booked a room for my friends. I think Macao hotels generally do an excellent job with hygiene and environment. Although this hotel is an older building, it's well-maintained, and the price is reasonable – definitely worth recommending. However, my biggest disappointment was the female front desk staff member who handled my check-in. Her attitude and handling of the situation were truly unacceptable, simply awful. If I didn't have such a good temper, I would have definitely given her an earful. She kept saying I was too late, and that the room I booked didn't have a single bed, so only twin beds could be arranged. Is 2:30 PM really 'too late' for check-in when the hotel's official check-in time is 3 PM? And her facial expression and tone were just terrible. She said there were no room type options and only twin beds were available if I wanted a single bed. After a few unpleasant exchanges, she finally said she'd upgrade me. Although she did eventually upgrade me to a king-size room, I still can't understand why the service could be so poor. For a hotel in Macao, this is completely substandard. I went to check in in good spirits, but ended up feeling very upset. Even with good facilities, without a casino, the hotel might already be seeing fewer guests, and then to offer this kind of service... it immediately gave me a bad impression of this hotel. I won't choose to stay here a second time. Thank you.

Got my forgotten charger back last month, thank you! It's good to know that lost and found items are handled, and it would have been even better if I had received a call. Even though it's not valuable, it reflects a hotel's management level, and I definitely give it a thumbs up! 👍🏿 This time, I came with my family again and overall, we were quite satisfied. Just a suggestion: please check the air conditioner in room 17948. There's a resonant echo that you can only feel when you lie in bed, so I didn't sleep that well. A truly comfortable and relaxing stay. I originally booked a Cultural Landmark room, but because it was on a lower floor and quite noisy due to road construction downstairs, the front desk quickly helped me upgrade to a full sea view suite. The turndown service was, as always, warm and cozy, and the gentleman by the poolside was also very attentive. I tried four drinks at the bar; honestly, one of them was quite mediocre, but the manager's service was excellent. The Regency Art Hotel in Macau for its highly competitive room rates, spacious accommodations with sweeping ocean views, and a relaxing waterfront location in Taipa. It provides resort-style amenities, including a seasonal outdoor pool, a fully equipped gym, spa facilities, and squash courts. • Outstanding Value: Travelers often book the Regency Art Hotel to enjoy larger-than-average rooms and a classic, grand aesthetic at a fraction of the cost of newer, luxury mega-resorts. • Spacious and Bright Rooms: The guest rooms are noticeably larger than many city alternatives, with large windows offering fantastic ocean views. • Prime Taipa Location: Situated near the Altira and University of Macau, the hotel serves as a quiet retreat away from the busy Cotai Strip, while still offering quick access to local buses and free ferry shuttle services. • Extensive Leisure Facilities: Guests can take advantage of a large outdoor seasonal swimming pool, racquetball and squash courts, a gym, and a spa and wellness center. • Unique Artistic Vibe: The lobby and common areas boast vibrant, elegant, and distinctive decor that sets it apart from standard chain hotels. It is a really old hotel and it has been renovated in sometime, but the thing that makes this place of steel is the attached resort. A great find if you're looking to relax and get away from the over air-conditioned adult oriented pressure cooker of the casinos on the strip. Macau is a small city, which makes it very easy to explore by walking. Many of the top tourist spots are close to each other, so you can just walk from one place to another. It’s a budget-friendly way to enjoy the city and gives you time to really see the local streets, old buildings, and yummy street food at your own pace.

Walking is perfect if you love taking photos, trying snacks, or finding quiet little streets that buses and taxis usually skip. Just wear comfy shoes and bring a water bottle, especially on hot days.

🌏 Traveling from Macau to Other Cities

One of the best things about visiting Macau is how easy it is to go to nearby cities like Hong Kong, Zhuhai, and Shenzhen. Thanks to its location along the Pearl River Delta, you have several transport options that are fast and simple to use.

🚤 Macau to Hong Kong

Ferry Macau to Hong Kong

Getting from Macau to Hong Kong is very easy. High-speed ferries run often and connect Macau’s Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal and Taipa Ferry Terminal to Sheung Wan on Hong Kong Island and the China Ferry Terminal in Kowloon.

  • Travel time: Around 55 to 70 minutes by ferry
  • Schedule: Ferries leave every 30 to 60 minutes during the day
  • Tip: Book tickets early on weekends or holidays, as they sell out fast

🚶‍♂️ Macau to Zhuhai

Zhuhai Golden Bus

Zhuhai is right next to Macau and is the closest mainland China city. You can easily cross the border either by foot, shuttle bus, or taxi through the Gongbei Border Gate or Lotus Checkpoint.

  • Travel time: Around 10 to 20 minutes depending on the queue
  • Transport options: Shuttle bus, taxi, or walking
  • Tip: Bring your passport and check visa rules for entering mainland China

🚌 Macau to Shenzhen

Ferry Macau to Shenzhen

Shenzhen is a bit farther but still easy to reach. You can take a direct bus or go by ferry to Hong Kong, then transfer to the train going to Shenzhen. Another option is crossing the Gongbei Border and taking a train from Zhuhai.

  • By bus: Around 2 to 3 hours
  • By ferry and train combo: Around 1.5 to 2 hours
  • Tip: The bus is more direct, but the ferry plus train route is more flexible if you also plan to visit Hong Kong
🥳 Pro Tip: Getting a China eSIM can help you stay connected while traveling in China.

🎯 Getting Around Macau Made Easy

Plan your routes ahead and mix transport options to save time. Use light rail or hotel shuttles for short trips, taxis or private cars for late-night rides, and walk to explore local streets. With simple planning, getting around becomes part of the fun.
