Macau Transport

Getting around Macau is actually very easy, even for first-time visitors. The city is small, everything is close by, and most areas are connected by buses, free hotel shuttles, and even a light rail. Whether you're coming in by ferry, plane, or crossing over from Hong Kong, Zhuhai, or Shenzhen, you’ll have no problem finding transportation. In this guide, I’ll show you the simplest and most budget-friendly ways to travel around Macau, so you can enjoy your trip without any hassle.

✈️ Macau Airport Transfers

Macau Airport

When you land at Macau International Airport (MFM), getting to your hotel is simple. Whether you're heading to Taipa, Cotai, or the Macau Peninsula, there are several easy ways to travel. Just choose what fits your budget, time, and how much luggage you have.

🚌 Public Bus from the Airport

You’ll find bus stops just outside the arrival area on the lower floor. Buses go to major areas like Taipa, Cotai, Macau Peninsula, ferry terminals, and the border gate.

  • Fare: MOP 6.0 (around PHP 40 or SGD 1.00). Prepare exact coins or use a Macau Pass.
  • Travel Time: About 20 to 30 minutes to Taipa or Cotai. It takes a bit longer to reach the Macau Peninsula.
  • Operating Hours: Most buses run from 6:00 AM until midnight.
  • Tip: Good for solo or light travelers. It can get crowded during peak hours.

🚖 Taxi

Taxi stands are located right outside the airport exit. All taxis are metered, so you pay based on distance.

  • Estimated Cost:
    • Taipa or Cotai hotels: around MOP 30 to 50 (about PHP 200 to 350)
    • Macau Peninsula: around MOP 60 to 100 (about PHP 400 to 700)
  • Travel Time: About 10 to 20 minutes depending on traffic.
  • Tip: Not all drivers speak English. It helps to show your hotel address in Chinese.

🚗 Hotel Shuttle or Private Car

Many large hotels in Macau offer shuttle buses or private car services. These usually pick you up right at the airport arrivals area.

  • Travel Time: Around 15 to 25 minutes.
  • Cost:
    • Hotel shuttles: Usually free if you’re a guest. Just show your booking.
    • Private cars: More costly than taxis but more comfortable, especially if you have big luggage or are with family.
  • Tip: Some hotel shuttles need to be booked ahead. Double-check with your hotel.

🛤️ Route and Key Stops

The MLRT currently has only one line called the Taipa Line. It has 12 stops, starting from Taipa Ferry Terminal to Mom Pavilion. Some of the useful stops include:

  • Macau International Airport

The hotel's location is a quiet oasis amidst the bustling city, right next to the Macao Public Administration Building and a Catholic church. The service was excellent; during Chinese New Year, they provided a complimentary fruit platter and all drinks in the minibar were free. My only minor gripes were that the faucet on the vanity was a bit awkward to use, and the ocean view of the Macau Tower from my balcony was unfortunately obstructed by some dilapidated buildings in front. Overall, it's still a pretty good hotel.

Traveling with two adults and one child, we opted for a twin room with two 1.2-meter single beds. It was perfectly comfortable for sleeping. The hotel's location is excellent; it's just seven or eight stops on bus number 1 from Gongbei Port. Right outside the hotel, you'll find Rua de Cinco de Outubro, and it's a short walk to Senado Square, the Ruins of St. Paul's, and Monte Fort, allowing you to explore the old town on foot. Getting to Taipa Island by bus is also very convenient. The hotel breakfast was great, and they didn't charge for our child. While the facilities are a bit dated, it's all perfectly acceptable. Highly recommended!

I just reviewed the hotel, but forgot to mention the excellent service. There was absolutely no neglect. Although the front desk staff's Mandarin wasn't perfect, they made a genuine effort to communicate and were very helpful to guests. Even during the busy Chinese New Year, the service remained great, and they always greeted us with a smile. The room was very clean, and it was a huge plus that our ten-year-old could get an extra bed for free. Their Chinese restaurant serves delicious dim sum at lunch, and they are very friendly towards seniors and children. Seniors even get a discount on orders. It was very convenient to take the shuttle to Sands. The hotel's pool was also nice. It's very close to the Golden Lotus Square, Fisherman's Wharf, and the Grand Prix Museum, and public transport to Taipa and the Ruins of St. Paul's is also quite convenient.

Huge thanks to the hotel! My child's passport went missing, and we suspected it might have fallen into the sofa crevice in our room. We nervously called the hotel, and from the initial contact to their feedback, it took about 40 minutes. They even reminded us that international calls might be blocked and advised us to call back in two hours, regardless of whether we'd heard anything. The response was prompt, and it was convenient to go back to the hotel to pick it up; the front desk staff even helped retrieve it. The service feedback was timely. Check-in was also very quick. And the Ferris wheel was amazing!

I spent a few days in Macau during Chinese New Year and chose The Parisian Macao. The experience far exceeded my expectations – it's definitely my top choice for a relaxing getaway and picture-perfect moments. 📍 **Location & Transportation**: Located in the heart of the Cotai Strip, it's connected to The Venetian and The Londoner by indoor walkways. You can explore all three resorts without needing an umbrella, even on a rainy day. There's a free shuttle bus directly to the border gates and airport, making travel super convenient. 🏨 **Lobby & Rooms**: The 35-meter high French-style dome mural and crystal chandeliers give you an immediate sense of being transported to Paris the moment you walk in. Every snapshot is a hit on social media! The rooms are clean and comfortable, with skin-friendly bedding and exquisite bathroom amenities. Soundproofing and cleanliness are excellent. The front desk is responsive, and you can store your luggage for free. 🍽️ **Dining**: The hotel offers a variety of dining options with different cuisines, price points, and atmospheres to suit every guest's preference. During our stay, we dined most frequently at the 'Colourful Flavor' restaurant on the first floor. They have freshly made Cantonese dim sum and Western cold dishes. The prices are moderate, and the portions are generous and delicious. 📸 **Must-Visit Spots**: Don't miss the free observation deck on the 7th floor of the Eiffel Tower for sunset and city views; capture the Eiffel Tower's reflection by the pool; and take an upward shot of the lobby dome for maximum ambiance. **Friendly Tip**: The shuttle bus can have queues during peak hours, so allow plenty of time. Overall, it's perfect for couples and family trips, offering romance, shopping, dining, and convenient transportation all in one place. Highly recommended!

True to its reputation as an established five-star hotel, it was an excellent stay! The bellboy proactively helped with my luggage, and the service was very warm and friendly. They even gave me a free room upgrade! Every staff member I encountered would nod and greet me, and also reminded me about steps. My non-smoking room didn't have any smoke smell, and it was very clean. The only minor drawback was that the soundproofing in the hallway wasn't particularly great. I'll definitely choose this place again next time! 😊

Overall, it was a great experience. We arrived early in the morning and stored our luggage, then checked in in the evening. The breakfast quality was excellent. The only downside was that I had purchased breakfast for two on my app, and when checking in, I was asked if my child needed breakfast. The staff told me that a 4-year-old didn't need one. However, when my husband took our child to eat breakfast, a staff member yelled at the child to leave. This really knocks off a star. They could have let the child go in first and then spoken to the father for payment.

I've stayed at The Venetian four times over the past decade, but after this last visit, I honestly don't think I'll go back. The suites are large, but definitely showing their age. I constantly felt like I was walking on dusty carpets. Service was practically non-existent, except for a handsome guy who helped with luggage at the car park entrance – big shout out to him for the help! After that, it was pretty much self-service. I get it, the hotel is huge and there are tons of people, so it's probably standard operating procedure. What really bothered me was that the Grand Canal Shoppes on the third floor have become a tourist attraction, so it's incredibly crowded, even in the lobby, and just super noisy. This time, I took some time to check out other hotels, and their environments were so much more pleasant. Even their casinos didn't have that smoky, grimy feel that The Venetian's does. If you like a lively atmosphere or haven't experienced a split-level suite before, it might be worth trying once, but it's not worth a second visit.

This was my first time bringing the kids to Macau for Chinese New Year. The hotel's location is super convenient, with a taxi stand and bus stop right outside. The room was spacious and very comfortable. There's also a Cafe de Coral restaurant downstairs, which was handy for meals. The welcoming service was excellent too! Oh, and the kids even received a New Year red packet in the room, with a gold coin chocolate inside – they were thrilled!

I had a truly fantastic stay! I usually stay in Taipa, but this time I chose Harbourview Hotel since I was visiting the Grand Prix Museum the next day, and I was pleasantly surprised. Huge thanks to the hotel for upgrading me to a suite – the room was incredibly spacious, and most importantly, it was spotless and well-maintained. I'll definitely book here again on my next trip to Macau. It's super convenient; you can take the Sands shuttle and just cross the road, or use public transport as there's a bus stop right opposite the hotel. There are water dispensers in the hallway, though only cold water, which was perfectly fine.

I spent two days in Macau and chose to stay at the Holiday Inn, initially just for the convenient location. To my surprise, I'm now a huge fan! From check-in to check-out, every detail made me feel 'at home.' I definitely recommend this hotel to anyone planning a trip to Macau. The hotel is right in the heart of Senado Square, just a 5-minute walk to the Ruins of St. Paul's and 10 minutes to Senado Square itself. Downstairs, you'll find a bus stop and taxi stand, making it super easy to get to the airport or Taipa (about a 15-minute taxi ride). The biggest surprise was discovering so many old-school eateries nearby – Dai Lai Kei Pork Chop Bun, Yee Shun Milk Company, Chan Kong Kei Roasted Meats… You can easily grab a late-night snack just by strolling around, no need to rush.

The hotel service was excellent. The front desk helped us with change, which saved us from an awkward situation with the taxi driver. They also upgraded us to a sea-view room, where we could see the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. Although there was construction downstairs, it didn't disturb our rest; there was barely any noise. This stay was truly a more-than-five-star experience! When I booked this hotel, I thought it would be a typical hotel, but to my surprise, it exceeded my expectations after checking in. If I ever come to Macau again, I would definitely choose to stay at this hotel! **Facilities:** I stayed in a sea-view room with a balcony that offered direct ocean views – the scenery was absolutely stunning! It's really hard to find a hotel with a balcony in Macau. The hotel also has an outdoor heated swimming pool and a hot tub, and there's even a sauna in the changing rooms, so you can fully enjoy yourself even in winter! The hotel's decor is incredibly luxurious, making you feel like you're living in a palace, and the facilities all seem well-maintained. **Breakfast:** Breakfast is served at the hotel's Parisian restaurant and is a buffet with a diverse selection. You can also order noodles, sandwiches, and omelets made to order on the spot, and they taste pretty good. What's more, they even offer ice cream for breakfast, which is really special! If you choose not to eat at the hotel, there are plenty of 'cha chaan teng' (local diners) and other restaurants just across the road, some even open 24 hours! **Transportation:** The hotel is located right in Fisherman's Wharf, particularly close to Casino Oceanus and Sands, so you can take their shuttle buses from Gongbei Port to get near the hotel. There's also a bus stop not far from the hotel, so transportation is incredibly convenient. If you need a taxi, the hotel concierge can even help you call one. **Service:** The hotel staff's service attitude is genuinely excellent – very warm, thoughtful, and makes you feel right at home!

Staying at Metropark Hotel Macau. The hotels in Macau Peninsula and Taipa really have different price points. Hotels in Taipa feel very overpriced, likely catering mainly to casino guests. I chose this hotel because it has a swimming pool and a fitness center. Neither are very big, but they're decent enough. They also have a spin dryer, sauna, and steam room. Facilities: Not as good as I imagined. The showerhead works a bit differently, so it's best to try it out before showering. If you can't switch the spray mode, it's probably best to ask room service to avoid a bad showering experience, haha! 😄 Hygiene: There was some limescale residue in the crevices of the countertop faucet, which wasn't quite up to expectations in terms of detail. Environment: Good. Service: Both room service and front desk service were decent. However, the hotel's free shuttle bus wasn't as convenient as I'd hoped. Especially for the shuttles to various attractions, the hotel's 'priority boarding' benefit wasn't very clear, and it felt quite chaotic, which made for a poor experience (though it might have been due to the large crowds during the Chinese New Year holiday 😯).

Staying in Taipa, Macau, most of the five-star hotels here are excellent, it really just depends on what you're looking for. If you're traveling with kids and want on-site entertainment, Galaxy and Studio City are definitely your top picks. Let me tell you about the Grand Hyatt's advantages. First off, the transportation is super convenient. You can take a shuttle from the border gate to City of Dreams, and the Grand Hyatt is right next door. The Cotai East LRT station is practically at your doorstep, making it really easy to get to Cunha Street. Plus, City of Dreams offers shuttles to Macau Peninsula starting at noon, dropping you off near the Grand Emperor Hotel, which is a walkable distance to the Ruins of St. Paul's. Another great feature is the standard-sized swimming pool, where you can get an unobstructed view and even a photo op with Morpheus. From the footbridge at the LRT station entrance, you can directly admire the Wynn Palace's fountain show and cable car. My main reason for choosing the Grand Hyatt this time was that it offered better value for money compared to the other hotels nearby.

The room was spacious, and the interior facilities were exquisite and well-designed. There were power adapters in the room, and the mattress and pillows were incredibly comfortable; the bedding felt even better than the satin in other hotels. The location is excellent; enjoying the sea view from the room or going downstairs for a sea breeze is super relaxing. Transportation is convenient, right next to MGM. You can take MGM's shuttle bus after crossing the border. This trip was a bit rushed, and I didn't have time to fully appreciate everything, but I could still feel the quiet tranquility here, which other hotels often lack due to their entertainment venues (even the lobby scent was much more subtle and elegant than in other hotels and casinos). Flights to Macau

🌏 Traveling from Macau to Other Cities

One of the best things about visiting Macau is how easy it is to go to nearby cities like Hong Kong, Zhuhai, and Shenzhen. Thanks to its location along the Pearl River Delta, you have several transport options that are fast and simple to use.

🚤 Macau to Hong Kong

Ferry Macau to Hong Kong

Getting from Macau to Hong Kong is very easy. High-speed ferries run often and connect Macau’s Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal and Taipa Ferry Terminal to Sheung Wan on Hong Kong Island and the China Ferry Terminal in Kowloon.

  • Travel time: Around 55 to 70 minutes by ferry
  • Schedule: Ferries leave every 30 to 60 minutes during the day
  • Tip: Book tickets early on weekends or holidays, as they sell out fast

🚶‍♂️ Macau to Zhuhai

Zhuhai Golden Bus

Zhuhai is right next to Macau and is the closest mainland China city. You can easily cross the border either by foot, shuttle bus, or taxi through the Gongbei Border Gate or Lotus Checkpoint.

  • Travel time: Around 10 to 20 minutes depending on the queue
  • Transport options: Shuttle bus, taxi, or walking
  • Tip: Bring your passport and check visa rules for entering mainland China

🚌 Macau to Shenzhen

Ferry Macau to Shenzhen

Shenzhen is a bit farther but still easy to reach. You can take a direct bus or go by ferry to Hong Kong, then transfer to the train going to Shenzhen. Another option is crossing the Gongbei Border and taking a train from Zhuhai.

  • By bus: Around 2 to 3 hours
  • By ferry and train combo: Around 1.5 to 2 hours
  • Tip: The bus is more direct, but the ferry plus train route is more flexible if you also plan to visit Hong Kong
🥳 Pro Tip: Getting a China eSIM can help you stay connected while traveling in China.

FAQs about Macau Transport

  • What is the best way to get around Macau?

Yes, walking is easy and safe. Many attractions like Senado Square, Ruins of St. Paul’s, and A-Ma Temple are close to each other.
