Author's Profile Picture
Macau Transport

Getting around Macau is actually very easy, even for first-time visitors. The city is small, everything is close by, and most areas are connected by buses, free hotel shuttles, and even a light rail. Whether you're coming in by ferry, plane, or crossing over from Hong Kong, Zhuhai, or Shenzhen, you’ll have no problem finding transportation. In this guide, I’ll show you the simplest and most budget-friendly ways to travel around Macau, so you can enjoy your trip without any hassle.

✈️ Macau Airport Transfers

Macau Airport

When you land at Macau International Airport (MFM), getting to your hotel is simple. Whether you're heading to Taipa, Cotai, or the Macau Peninsula, there are several easy ways to travel. Just choose what fits your budget, time, and how much luggage you have.

🚌 Public Bus from the Airport

You’ll find bus stops just outside the arrival area on the lower floor. Buses go to major areas like Taipa, Cotai, Macau Peninsula, ferry terminals, and the border gate.

  • Fare: MOP 6.0 (around PHP 40 or SGD 1.00). Prepare exact coins or use a Macau Pass.
  • Travel Time: About 20 to 30 minutes to Taipa or Cotai. It takes a bit longer to reach the Macau Peninsula.
  • Operating Hours: Most buses run from 6:00 AM until midnight.
  • Tip: Good for solo or light travelers. It can get crowded during peak hours.

🚖 Taxi

Taxi stands are located right outside the airport exit. All taxis are metered, so you pay based on distance.

  • Estimated Cost:
    • Taipa or Cotai hotels: around MOP 30 to 50 (about PHP 200 to 350)
    • Macau Peninsula: around MOP 60 to 100 (about PHP 400 to 700)
  • Travel Time: About 10 to 20 minutes depending on traffic.
  • Tip: Not all drivers speak English. It helps to show your hotel address in Chinese.

🚗 Hotel Shuttle or Private Car

Many large hotels in Macau offer shuttle buses or private car services. These usually pick you up right at the airport arrivals area.

  • Travel Time: Around 15 to 25 minutes.
  • Cost:
    • Hotel shuttles: Usually free if you’re a guest. Just show your booking.
    • Private cars: More costly than taxis but more comfortable, especially if you have big luggage or are with family.
  • Tip: Some hotel shuttles need to be booked ahead. Double-check with your hotel.

  • Macau International Airport

If you're looking to avoid casino hotels and unreliable guesthouses, this place comes highly recommended. This hotel has hosted the country's top leaders twice, so its quality and reputation speak for themselves (it's an especially amazing experience if you're traveling with family elders who appreciate historical significance). It's located in Macau's top luxury residential area, offering a quiet environment with excellent views of the Macau Tower. The Liaison Office of the Central People's Government is right nearby, and behind it, up the hill, are some interesting churches. There are also many historical sites in the vicinity, perfect for a city walk. The only downsides are that it's a bit out of the way (wealthy areas tend to be less central) and not as convenient as hotels with casinos. While there's no direct hotel shuttle, public buses are available. If you come by metro, be prepared for a rather steep uphill walk.

We had a great stay here. Nice Christmas 🎄 decorations in the hotel. Staff very helpful with everything. Breakfast was ok (great pastries 🥐) could have some more options like fresh vegetables. Location is nice next to river with walking distance to old center. Pity the casino was closed, seems there will not be a restart of these facilities here. Therefore also less options for shuttle buses (ferry, boarder, etc). The room was good but we had a room with this connection door to another room, where sounds from direct neighbors can be heard through quite well. But overall pleasant stay.

Twin room: On the 8th floor, facing the road, diagonally opposite the Golden Lotus Square. Good soundproofing. The air conditioning doesn't provide heating, so if you're sensitive to cold, you can ask housekeeping for a portable heater. The bathrobes are comfortable. Breakfast: Not worth buying, it's very simple and not good value for money, nothing special to eat (unless you love typical Western breakfast food). Kids' Club: Has both indoor and outdoor areas, with a 2-hour time limit. It's miniature but fun. There are many small parks around the hotel, and these parks all have simple children's play equipment. It's very close to the Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre, which is great! Transportation: A taxi to the Border Gate costs MOP 55-60. A taxi to The Venetian costs MOP 100. It's very close to the Car Museum. Walking to Senado Square takes 20 minutes, and the Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre is also within walking distance. Dining: Lots of local restaurants where residents eat. Service: Not many Mandarin-speaking staff, but enough for our needs. Overall very good, I think it's great.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Choosing Studio City Celebrity Tower this time was absolutely the right decision! I originally booked a room without tickets, but then I found a package deal and bothered Ctrip customer service #JiangJiang multiple times. Thank you for your hard work in helping me switch packages! I also bothered the hotel's reservation department employee #Karina a few times, and I'm so grateful for your excellent service. You specifically helped me arrange a birthday setup for the room. The hotel housekeeping staff's service was also fantastic, which deeply touched me. I hope you all can maintain this level of service; the future looks bright. For families with kids visiting Macau, Celebrity Tower is a no-brainer. The rooms come with lots of complimentary snacks and instant noodles! If you have any special requests, remember to contact the reservations department #Karina in advance to arrange them. I hope the hotel pays more attention to its reservation department staff. This department, which conveys the brand's value solely through voice, deserves thanks for their attentive listening and feedback. I wish all your employees more care and appreciation.

Returned to this hotel again and loved it as always. It's an old hotel with a five-star feel. The service attitude is superb! 👍 The bellhops, front desk, and room service staff were all so warm and kind. This time, I traveled with three elderly relatives, specifically for my aunt's 75th birthday. When the front desk found out, they arranged for a birthday cake to be delivered 🎂, and it tasted wonderful. For our return trip, we booked the free shuttle to the airport. This travel experience was absolutely fantastic! There's a Macau Pui Kei Bakery inside the building too, with BBQ pork buns, chicken buns, and bread that are all incredibly delicious 😋. We even bought another birthday cake, and I believe it was made by the same pastry chef 🥳. **Facilities:** Old but charming. **Hygiene:** Quite good. We didn't need daily room cleaning, just towel changes and trash bag replacement. **Environment:** Because rooms were a bit tight and we wanted the elderly to see the fountain across the street, we checked into a smoking room. The hotel did a smoke-free treatment, but next time, I'll definitely opt for a non-smoking room again 😉. **Service:** Very enthusiastic, attentive, and excellent service quality. **Minibar:** Satisfied my love for drinks.

The hotel no longer offers a free shuttle to the Border Gate (Guanzha). My request for a room facing the park couldn't be accommodated. However, it's quite convenient to walk to the Lighthouse, Lou Lim Ieoc Garden, and *** from here. The rooms are clean and soundproofing is excellent. You have to ask the staff specifically for slippers. It was renovated in 2016, so it has a bit of an older feel, but it's very well-maintained and offers good value for money. The buffet breakfast restaurant has a nice view of the park.

Overall, my stay was very satisfying. The hotel room was easy to find and quite spacious. Danny even helped us with an upgrade! Our luggage was handled by a dedicated staff member who brought it to our room, though it did take a bit of time, about half an hour. When checking out, you can call ahead for someone to pick up your luggage and store it. Owen was very friendly and patiently explained everything. The only thing that could be improved is my friend mentioned the duvet was a bit thin. Also, finding our way to the Grand Canal for late-night snacks often led us astray. I'll definitely be back next time!

The overall experience at New Orient Landmark Hotel in Macau was excellent. The room was spacious and clean, the bedding was comfortable, and it was very quiet at night, allowing for a good rest. The front desk and customer service staff were all very friendly, efficient, and professional, making both check-in and check-out smooth. The hotel's location is also great, with convenient access to restaurants and supermarkets nearby, and it's easy to get around on foot. The facilities are well-maintained, and attention to detail is evident, which made for a very reassuring stay. Overall, it offers great value for money, and I would definitely consider staying here again on my next trip to Macau.

I chose this hotel for its convenient location for exploring the surrounding areas, and I really appreciated the spacious room and living space. However, the soundproofing was terrible; I was bothered by all sorts of noise every day, and even the pipes would randomly make noise. The toiletries felt really cheap. It's about a 1km walk to the Ruins of St. Paul's, and there's a bus stop right outside, which is quite convenient. Plus, the Café de Coral on the first floor offers delicious and affordable casual meals. If you enjoy dim sum, there's a great place diagonally opposite where you can have a fantastic meal for just over 100 [currency unit].

The best part was definitely the swimming pool: it's 25m long and about 1.5m deep. The water quality was good, and there were also three hot tubs for relaxation. In the changing rooms, they provided L'Occitane shampoo, shower gel, and body lotion. The bathtub in the room was quite large, and the magnifying mirror was a nice touch. The room decor was very European and had a 'girly' style. However, there were quite a few downsides: 1. The bed was too narrow; it was hard to turn over if you're not small. Both my friend and I experienced unbearable itching at night, which made it difficult to sleep. I'm not sure what was wrong with the duvet. 2. The standard twin room we checked into didn't have body lotion. 3. Some of the charging outlets were broken. 4. The bathroom door made a loud creaking noise when opening and closing, which would wake up the other person in the room. 5. The location is a bit out of the way, at the very end of Fisherman's Wharf, so you need a taxi to get to the city center. Overall, the value for money was still pretty good. It's worth noting that I stayed at three hotels over these three days, and the other two offered free room upgrades, whereas this hotel refused.

The hygiene was excellent, and the environment was decent. However, the front desk service was very mediocre. Once you've booked a room, you're expected to follow their rules with no flexibility whatsoever; in other words, they're quite rigid. My stay here was absolutely fantastic! The front desk staff were warm and professional, and check-in was quick and efficient. The room was spotless, and the bedding was so comfortable and soft that I slept soundly until I woke up naturally. The soundproofing was excellent; I couldn't hear any noise from the hallway. The breakfast spread was extensive, with a great variety of both Western and Chinese options – I particularly enjoyed the freshly made noodles. The location is superb, just a short walk to the subway station and shopping areas. The value for money is outstanding, with quality evident in every detail, like the complimentary mini-bar and turn-down service. I will definitely choose this hotel again for future business trips or vacations and will highly recommend it to my friends!

The hotel was clean, well-organized, and sufficient for our stay. It has a convenient location near the ferry terminal, though it’s not the best spot if you want to be close to major attractions — you’ll need to walk a bit. The beds were comfortable, the room was spacious, and the bathroom was clean and comfortable as well. The casino had a somewhat dated vibe, and we didn’t have time to check out the pool, but note that you’ll need to bring a hair cap if you plan to swim.

I originally booked a standard sea view room, but upon arrival, I was upgraded to an executive room for an additional 300 MOP over two nights. Coming from Hong Kong by ferry, the hotel's location right next to the pier made check-in incredibly convenient; it was just a 10-minute walk. The hotel is very large, like a castle. The room I stayed in was on the 3rd floor and had a musty smell, perhaps because it hadn't been occupied for a while or due to its proximity to the sea. Everything else was quite good, but don't expect a great view from the sea view room – the water is very murky and not particularly beautiful. The hotel staff were exceptionally warm and friendly, big thumbs up for their service! Taking a taxi from the hotel to Rua do Cunha cost 110 MOP, and to the Ruins of St. Paul's cost 45 MOP. The area around the hotel is a bit desolate and not very lively at night, as it's a residential area.

The hotel boasts an excellent location and is very quiet on a high floor, offering great value for money. The service was attentive. Right outside, there are plenty of options for quick bites and local snacks. Getting a taxi to the ferry terminal is quick and convenient. For those traveling from Macau to West Kowloon (High-Speed Rail Station) or Harbour City, taking a ferry to the appropriate passenger terminal is the most convenient option. However, if you arrive at the Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal, it's best to go to Sheung Wan MTR station to connect to the subway. Do be prepared for a fair bit of walking in Hong Kong!

After exiting Gongbei Port, I took the Studio City bus and got off at Studio City Macau, which is right where the Grand Hyatt is located. All the staff were very professional and polite. The lobby security was completely ineffective. They failed to intervene when disruptive guests were having a loud party, despite it clearly disturbing other guests. Not only that, but they also allowed unruly individuals to cut in front of guests who had been patiently waiting. Furthermore, I have serious suspicions about a flickering power outlet on the wall in front of the desk, facing the bed. Could a pinhole camera have been secretly installed there? It raises many questions.

As a Mandarin Oriental fan, I specifically chose the Mandarin Oriental Macau for my birthday stay, and the actual experience lived up to my expectations. As one of the very few high-star hotels in Macau without a casino, the Mandarin Oriental is truly an ideal place to stay. Several details really stood out and earned extra points. First, during check-in, the front desk duty manager, Hallie, proactively recognized it was my birthday and reserved a tower-view room on the highest floor in advance. This kind of luxury service truly lies in these small details. After we arrived in our room, we noticed some stains and imperfections on the bedding. When we informed the front desk before heading out, they meticulously re-housekept the room. Later that evening, returning to our room, we found a heartfelt letter and a fan prepared by the hotel's guest relations manager, Melody, which was very touching. The ability to efficiently and professionally resolve issues, even when they arise, is what guests value most. Finally, on the day of checkout, I went to the gym and met Annie and Leo. Upon learning I wanted to purchase some hotel merchandise to take home, they specifically arranged for a colleague from the spa to open early for us. When I used the pool, Leo was incredibly enthusiastic and attentive throughout. These details were definitely a huge plus. I hope the hotel management recognizes these efficient and professional staff members and conveys our gratitude. Should I return to Macau, MO will still be my top choice.

Flights to Macau

🌏 Traveling from Macau to Other Cities

One of the best things about visiting Macau is how easy it is to go to nearby cities like Hong Kong, Zhuhai, and Shenzhen. Thanks to its location along the Pearl River Delta, you have several transport options that are fast and simple to use.

🚤 Macau to Hong Kong

Ferry Macau to Hong Kong

Getting from Macau to Hong Kong is very easy. High-speed ferries run often and connect Macau’s Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal and Taipa Ferry Terminal to Sheung Wan on Hong Kong Island and the China Ferry Terminal in Kowloon.

  • Travel time: Around 55 to 70 minutes by ferry
  • Schedule: Ferries leave every 30 to 60 minutes during the day
  • Tip: Book tickets early on weekends or holidays, as they sell out fast

🚶‍♂️ Macau to Zhuhai

Zhuhai Golden Bus

Zhuhai is right next to Macau and is the closest mainland China city. You can easily cross the border either by foot, shuttle bus, or taxi through the Gongbei Border Gate or Lotus Checkpoint.

  • Travel time: Around 10 to 20 minutes depending on the queue
  • Transport options: Shuttle bus, taxi, or walking
  • Tip: Bring your passport and check visa rules for entering mainland China

🚌 Macau to Shenzhen

Ferry Macau to Shenzhen

Shenzhen is a bit farther but still easy to reach. You can take a direct bus or go by ferry to Hong Kong, then transfer to the train going to Shenzhen. Another option is crossing the Gongbei Border and taking a train from Zhuhai.

  • By bus: Around 2 to 3 hours
  • By ferry and train combo: Around 1.5 to 2 hours
  • Tip: The bus is more direct, but the ferry plus train route is more flexible if you also plan to visit Hong Kong

FAQs about Macau Transport

  • What is the best way to get around Macau?
