Everything about the stay was perfect — except for the very poor Wi-Fi. There’s no kitchen facility, which may be inconvenient for long-term stays, but considering the price and the services provided, it’s still an economical choice for this location.
The hotel’s location is excellent — just steps away from a 24/7 convenience store. However, I strongly advise against shopping there: prices are extremely high. For example, a bottle of water that costs $4.50 NZD at the shop is available for just $0.99 at the local market. The fruit selection there is also disappointing in both quality and value. I wouldn’t recommend relying on that particular store — even though it’s close, there are better and much cheaper options on the opposite side of the street.
As for the hotel itself — you get exactly what you pay for, and I’d happily recommend it to others. In fact, it’s the most budget-friendly accommodation option in this area.
My second time staying in this hotel. The room was huge, with all necessary facilities in good condition. The fridge, microwave and electric kettle are quite handy. The location is very convenient, both for sightseeing and for getting to and from the airport. The largest and cheapest supermarket in the area (Woolworths) is also just a few hundred meters away. The only issue was a bit of noise from the traffic outside, but not too bad. Overall, great value for money.
The location is perfect, located in the heart of the city centre, 1 mins walk to the nearest countdown/woolworth. You can find anything you need in the area, you name it, you will find it.
It is best for traveller first leg in New Zealand. There is a big common area, You get to meet a lot of backpackers which you can exchange information.
Highly recommended.
The only short is that the water in the shower is too low, it is like spraying water on you.
It's quite far from the CBD and the entrance is a staircase, so it's inconvenient to have a large suitcase. It is helpful to have a locker with a key individually. Also, it was helpful to be able to use the kitchen for 24 hours. I stayed at 3 in the backer, but this was the best.
This is a newly opened hostel. I booked a double room to try it out by myself. The room wasn't big, but it was enough for one person. It's on the 6th floor, and you can see a small portion of the sea view through the glass door. The best part is that you can leave the door slightly open so the air is fresh. The downside isn't that there's no wardrobe, but there are no clothes hangers. That's not a big deal, but there's also no hairdryer or electric kettle. Luckily, there's a rooftop restaurant upstairs, a bar downstairs, and two supermarkets nearby for water and drinks. Everything else, like the location and customer service, was excellent. I recommend it.
Facilities: very clean
Hygiene: not bad
Environment: very good
Service: very good
There are Chinese restaurants and other western restaurants nearby, overall it's okay
There are more Indians nearby
Luggage storage is possible for free
Such a cozy spot for an overnight stay. Upstairs room i got with no balcony access like the rooms on the ground floor but still has the windows to look out on to the park. So check if you are getting the ground floor for patio access or upstairs room window to park views. Quite a noisy street on the main drag in a built up area but still close to the Airport and shopping centre. Room was very well equipped with utensils and microwave. Bed was clean & comfy just needed a couple more pillows to perch up especially for 2 adults to watch TV. Bonus the stand up cooling fan. Bathroom with a good size shower & basic ammenities and a side cupboard to hang clothing. Overall a comfortable stay.
Overall score: 2.7/5 (Below Expectations).
Pros:
- Bathroom was clean.
- Room serviced every second day (clean towels/dishes, rubbish removed, bed made, tea/coffee topped-up).
- Carparks on 3 sides of building.
- Staff were friendly.
Cons:
- Bedroom floor dirty upon arrival (needed a vacuum and mop).
- Heat-pump was either on or off (arrived on a hot sunny day and wanted to cool down but 28° heat was only option. Had to just open window instead, but when someone started smoking outside, closed it).
- Noisy area with regular low-flying aircraft, loud traffic/sirens, and people talking at all hours (people outside or in hallway or neighboring rooms can be heard from our room with doors closed).
- Pillows very thin and hard.

KKERENBecause I registered for the 2-day group and need to gather at the Sky Tower early in the morning, I chose this relatively cost-effective one as a transit. First, the location is really good, and then the staff are also very enthusiastic; second, the room is very small and very small. It’s a 28-inch box or more. I’m not sure if I can lay it out flat. The other is that the hotel is very old and has a sense of age. Finally, if it is only used as a transit and can accept old facilities, you can choose, because 500 yuan a night The price/performance ratio is really high. I ordered 2k for the Crowne Plaza a hundred meters away.

BBouachanhI don’t normally stay at YMCA
But I have been using their gym for pre training few time instead of pay 3x for the hotel 24km away
I tried YMCA as I just a clean bed shower and toilet for one and train early in the more after arriving at the hotel 22:30
I worked out great standard single bed clean and tidy
All the common area showers toilets tidy and clean
The room doesn’t have AC but a fan with window open worked ok to circulate the air at 18C outside temp
Single bed room Photos just like in the ads
Level 4 men shower rose/water pressure was not working really well but ok for me just one night

AAround&AboutI stayed one night in Hobson Lodge in a female room. As soon as I arrived in the area I wasn't feeling very comfortable however the lady at the reception was very nice and generally the people at the hostel seemed quite chill. The kitchen/common area isn't the biggest or cleanest. The room are okish as long as it is not full otherwise I understand why reviews were mentioning about the lack of air.
GGuest UserI returned to the motel because my first stay was so pleasant and hosts are just very warm and welcoming. My family circumstances are challenging and the hosts are very understanding and helpful. The motel is as expected for about a three-star but is lovely and clean. It is great to have the pool for a dip as well
Aanoniem86Had a very late arrival, but the service was amazing. The room was super clean, and the location is perfect with stores and restaurants around the corner and 10 minutes drive to the beach
