Amazing
MMrBlueSkyThe accommodation is just opposite the Central Station, only a 2-minute walk away. The hotel is also easy to find and its appearance is very conspicuous. The room is very big and can open 2 suitcases. The room is very clean and sanitary. There is a washing machine in the room and a clothes dryer in the bathroom, which is very useful. Will stay again next time.

AAnonymous UserI was extremely satisfied with my stay at JR Kyushu Hotel Kagoshima! The absolute highlight was its incredible convenience – the hotel is directly located inside Kagoshima-Chuo Station. It truly lives up to 'step off the train, step into the hotel,' making it super easy to access the Shinkansen, city trams, or the airport bus. This was particularly great for someone like me with a tight schedule. Even better, the hotel seamlessly connects to AMU PLAZA Kagoshima, which is right above the station. Shopping, dining, and drugstores are all there, making it incredibly easy to grab dinner and souvenirs without having to venture out into the sun or rain. It was a completely hassle-free, one-stop experience. Despite being in the heart of a transportation hub, the soundproofing in the room was surprisingly good. Once the door was closed, I could barely hear any noise from the station or the mall, making for a very quiet night's rest. While the room facilities weren't brand new, they were clean, tidy, and fully functional, with everything I needed, making for a very comfortable stay. Overall, this is a highly recommended hotel that perfectly balances convenience and practicality with great value for money. I strongly suggest it to anyone traveling independently to Kagoshima!

AAnonymous UserI often travel to Japan, and Dormy Inn rooms always seem to be in high demand. The 20+ sqm twin rooms, perfect for two adults and one child, are usually impossible to book. So, when I saw this room type available in Kagoshima, I decided to book it for one night. Overall, my experience fell short of expectations. Unfortunately, neither adult could enjoy the onsen (hot springs) for personal reasons, which is arguably the hotel's main highlight – a real shame. The room itself was a bit small, and while cleanliness was decent, the toilet emitted a persistent garlic-like odor. On the positive side, the dining options were excellent. Breakfast featured Kagoshima's special black pork shabu-shabu and a type of sashimi. Complimentary ice cream and Yakult were available all day in the lounge on the hot spring floor, and free soy sauce ramen was served after 9:30 PM. Given these amenities, I'd say it's best suited for adults who plan to fully utilize the onsen facilities. What truly made the stay less than ideal wasn't just my inability to use the onsen. More significantly, during check-in, the front desk informed me that my reservation did not include a 3-year-old child, resulting in an additional charge for the child's accommodation and meals. This wasn't the hotel's fault, and honestly, I'm not sure who to blame. I distinctly remember booking for two adults and one child, so I'm puzzled about what went wrong in the process. Perhaps Dormy Inn and I simply weren't a good match this time. I'm well aware that Japanese hotels charge per person, so I always meticulously enter the correct number of guests and compare prices across different platforms when booking in Japan. Having visited Japan over a dozen times, this was the first instance where I was charged extra at check-in due to a discrepancy in the number of guests. I was quite surprised when informed about the booking error. Checking my Trip.com confirmation on my phone at the front desk, I saw it indeed only listed two adults. I can only fault myself for never reviewing the confirmation after booking; moving forward, I'll be sure to check them carefully to catch and correct any issues promptly. After reporting this to Trip.com customer service, they responded quickly and later reimbursed me half of the additional cost. During this trip, both hotels I booked through Trip.com had unexpected additional charges at check-in. Besides the Dormy Inn incident, another hotel in Fukuoka charged a separate accommodation tax. Interestingly, I booked a different hotel in Fukuoka on another platform, and its price already included this tax, so I didn't pay anything extra upon arrival. Moving forward, when booking hotels in Japan, I'll have to carefully consider if the lowest price offered on certain platforms might be due to hidden fees.

__ucweb1366136****The hotel is located in the Planetarium area, with an airport bus stop directly diagonally opposite. It's also just over a 10-minute walk to South Pier. Our twin room was a decent size, with enough space to open two 28-inch suitcases. The room offered a good view, but unfortunately, the windows don't open. In the bathroom, the water pressure was strong and the drain worked well, but the water temperature was a bit hard to adjust, fluctuating between hot and cold. There's a lip into the bathroom that felt a bit wobbly, so care is needed when stepping on it. The bathtub's material and design weren't ideal, which older guests should particularly note. The surrounding area offers plenty of shopping and dining options. Sukiya is right next door, and there's a well-established unagi (eel rice) restaurant nearby that serves delicious food. The hotel's cleanliness was alright, but I did find some hair. It seems the standards aren't quite comparable to what they were years ago when local staff were responsible for room upkeep, a difference perhaps influenced by the increasing presence of foreign workers in many cities. The front desk is on the second floor, and most services are semi-self-service, with self-service luggage lockers available.

AAnonymous UserThis hotel is near Kagoshima Station. It takes 5 minutes to get there by taking JR from Kagoshima Chuo Station. It is very convenient to walk a few hundred meters after getting off the train. The view from where I live is very good. I can see the mountain when I open the window. The big supermarket opposite the building is good. There are discounted sashimi and various rice in the afternoon. The hotel has a microwave to heat the rice. We bought some food and ate it in the hotel. It was very good. It takes only one stop to Senganen. It takes a few minutes to get off the train and arrive.

GGuest UserEven though this is an old hotel and it shows in its facilities and overall design, the service and amenities you get as a solo traveller is worth thw price you pay for an overnight stay. The room is clean albeit small but sufficient. Some points to take note if you're planning to book: This is close to the central station so it's juat a block away from major shopping and transport options. The hotel closes its front desk and doors at 11 pm to 7 am. Checkin before 11 pm. Going in and out of the hotel at that time is possible if you use your key card to open the front doors. Walls are thin and it's very possible that you would hear your neighbor. There's free coffee and drinks at the lobby.

ZZheyanIt's about a 20-minute walk from Kagoshima Chuo Station. The Takamibaba tram stop is right in front of the bath. The large public bath is great. There aren't many washing areas, so I don't know when it gets busy, but I didn't have to wait long. The breakfast was delicious and had a wide variety of food. It was a buffet of Japanese, Western and Chinese food. I would have preferred if there were more desserts. It was a shame that there was no cereal. The yogurt was delicious. It never gets full, but as rumored, there is quite a long queue from 6:30. The staff are not bad at all. It felt like they were doing the bare minimum.

GGuest UserPros: The hotel locates near the west exit of Kagoshima Central Station. It takes less than 3 minutes walk to get there from the station. However it would take 8-10 minutes walk to reach the airport bus terminal which is close to the east gate of the station. Space of a double room is satisfactory and average in Japan. Cons: Breakfast is very simple so we just ignore the breakfast on the the third day. No USB sockets in the room. One should not expect much facilities and services with reference to the price.

QQiao YingIt’s only a 6-minute walk from Kagoshimachuo Station! I stayed in the Tatami Room which can be relatively small for people with big luggages. Like other hostels, the toilets, shower rooms, and common space are shared among the floor. However, I do find the shower area a little small. Many of us wouldn’t enter the shower area if somebody was using the sink because the sink was right in front of one shower cubicle HAHAHA. And yes, there’s only one sink in the common shower area. I would recommend this place if you are doing a short stay in Kagoshima because there’s lots of shops and restaurants around the area! By the way, it’s located along the same lane as the famous “tonkatsu kawakyu とんかつ川久”. Please try it because it’s the best tonkatsu I’ve ever eaten!

KK Hoffman (Canada)It was too far away from Kagoshima-chuo Railway station to walk. Have to take the bus. First city in Japan that I could not use my SUICA card on the buses. Make sure you got small change. However, it's only about 10 minutes walk to the Tenmonkan Street, the shopping/eating area in Kagoshima. Nice kitchen if you want to do your own cooking. There is a vending machine on the 4th floor with beer and vodka on the rocks. Also, there are 2 laundry machines and dryers - one set on the third floor and the other on the rooftop. The rooftop had a gas dryer which is much better at drying clothes.
