The hotel itself felt to be a little too rich and classy than what I’m normally used to (not a bad thing). I didn’t give the full 5 for location mainly since the hotel sits on top of a hill within the city, walking is kinda out of question unless your up for winding incline up and down the hill. There are included transportations though which is nice and the trade off being the gorgeous views of the city and volcano (sakurajima) that sits across the water. There are also included restaurants, stores, bath, lounges, and even a convenience store built into the hotel too which was nice.

The Sherton Hotel in Kagoshima was an absolute gem of a hotel! This is our first visit to Japan, and we are admittedly nervous about the language barrier and cultural change from the US. From the moment we checked in, the staff has bent over backwards to make sure we are comfortable and have done a fantastic job to make this stay completely comfortable and enjoyable. The location is perfect right at the center of downtown Kagoshima, and the rooms, restaurants, and common spaces have more in common with a Four Seasons than with what is standard Sheraton in the US. We were not able to take advantage of the spa, but the Onsen (Hot Springs Sauna) was so relaxing and rejuvenating — especially after 26 hours of flights to get here! HIGHLY recommended. Thank you to the staff that has helped make our 4 days in Kagoshima a memorable experience! Now off to Hiroshima!

The staff members were very hospitable. Check in was fast and Jeffrey gave us detailed explanation of the facilities of the hotel. He also greeted us every time he met us in the lobby.
While the renovation in the room is old fashioned, it is kept clean. We were very lucky that we had good view of Sakurajima during our two days stay.
Breakfast in the lobby cafe and dinner in the Japanese restaurant were good.

From the Astronomical Museum Airport Bus Stop, walk about 5 、 6 minutes, and the tram ”Takami Baba tram stop” in front of the hotel. There are many hotels around, this is a new and nice hotel to look at. All the front staff were kind, color 々 guided me, and when I heard it in the afternoon, I gave me a discount ticket. The single room is a little larger than a normal business hotel, the bed is double size, the interior is clean and modern. I love artificial carbonated baths and my skin is smooth. The restaurant on the 13th floor seems to be a lot of locals, I used 3 meals, it was delicious. The only thing I want to improve is that there is no ballpoint pen in the room, and I want to take a note 々, but maybe everyone has a my pen in this era.

We stayed for 1 night (¥1,900) in a male dormitory. It is a guest house full of 4 story condominiums. The male dormitory is on the 4 floor and it is a bit troublesome to climb and down to the 1 floor. The cleanliness of the bed and water field was a level that I didn't particularly care about. The air conditioning in the dormitory was just good, and I didn't care about the sound of the 2-stage bed, and I was able to sleep well. There is a seven eleven diagonally across the road. You can use a credit card for the adjustment. As a note, there is a photograph that Sakurajima can hope from the rooftop on the reservation site, but it seems that a large warehouse has been built recently, and the view of Sakurajima side has been blocked. I think it's a good guest house except that.

The staff was nice, but it was my first time using such a place, so I guess it was more than I expected. I guess it can't be helped since I booked a cheap one, but I was worried about the person above me because I was at the bottom of the bunk bed. There are rooms along the elevator or hallway, and you have to use a password to enter the room. When you enter the room, it is further divided into bunk beds and more beds lined up inside the room. It feels like there are several of these in one lot. The shower is free, but towels are 100 yen. I felt a little creepy, and the sound of other people washing their faces, the sound of the hair dryer, and the alarm going off all the time made it difficult to sleep well. I probably don't want to use it again, but if you can accept it, it might be cheap and good. However, it was a tiring environment to stay in at my age.

GGuest UserGreat location just few steps away from the JR exit, easy access to restaurants and malls. Ventilation system in the bathroom would need some fixes, can hardly breathe during hot shower.
GGuest UserHotel can be accessed directly from the JR underpass, towards basement of hotel building. Tram station conveniently located in front of hotel. Hotel faces JR Station. Room is cozy with plenty of wall sockets. Good value for money. Room had lovely view of Mt Sakurajima.
GGuest UserThe public bath uses Fine Ten Water, and those with sensitive skin will feel the effects immediately. I also found Refa's shower head to be very comfortable to use, probably because the water pressure was higher than what I use at home. Use the hair dryer and your styling will look better than usual. Also, the room was equipped with a clothes deodorizer, and I was curious about this home appliance, so I was glad I was able to try it out. People who go to yakiniku etc. for dinner will probably find it very popular. The rooms are comfortable, but the public bath is recommended.
MM340IThe location is convenient, the hotel is clean and well-organized, and the level of hygiene is high. There is a dedicated person responsible for cleaning from time to time. The room is large enough, the facilities are sufficient, and the staff are friendly and courteous.
GGuest UserRoom was a decent size, fully equipped with washing machine, kitchen utensils, fridge, microwave. Very clean.
Unfortunately I did not receive the email with the entry code for the main entrance. That resulted in my waiting outside in the cold for almost an hour before getting the code through Trip.com customer service, before I could enter the building and into my room.
Also, Staytus only has a phone number to call for emergencies - it would be helpful to have at least an email alternative also, since foreigners may not have a mobile phone that can make calls in Japan.
TTheTravelersssLocation is very good
Facilities are not bad, excellent
However, you must make a separate phone call with the staff when checking in.
The hotel does not have a front desk and manages the system by phone, so a reservation number is required. However, the reservation number issued here is different from the number managed by the store.
Please note that you will need a phone that can make calls to Japanese numbers.
Other than the complicated check-in, it is recommended.
For tourists, you will like the hotel. It’s centrally-located and reasonably priced. But for me, this is my 2nd Richmond Hotel this week, and like Yokohama four days ago, the check in experience at the Kagoshima Richmond Kinseicho was just as bad. I arrived at the hotel at 1 and asked in Japanese for them to hold my bag until checkin. No problem and I left. I came back about 3:30 to check in. I claimed my bag and gave my name in Japanese. She found my reservation then immediately asked for my passport. I simply said “No”. She looked at me like I didn’t hear her then went to the back room to get another woman who I guess can speak English. Before the second one could say anything I explained in Japanese that I am not a tourist and if she would just check my reservation on the computer in front of her she would have known that. It is insulting to ask permanent residents (I am one.) for identification when checking in, especially our passport, which we do not carry around inside Japan (any more than a Japanese person would traveling Japan). The law specifies we are to be checked in as residents just as Japanese people are. And this, again, is the 2nd time this week I have explained the Japanese hotel law to Richmond hotel staff who should know better. And when this happens, no matter how good your hotel is the stay will not be pleasant because I won’t forget the insult. I’m speaking to you in Japanese and you still assume I am a tourist? How many fluent middle-aged white guys do you see in a year who are tourists? Come on Richmond, use some common sense and stop lumping residents and tourists in the same pile. It’s disrespectful to those of us for whom Japan is home. We are not the same as tourists. I like Richmond Hotels, but I have plenty of hotel choices available to me, and have stayed at Richmond at least four times this past year. Until you stop othering foreign residents as the same as visiting tourists I won’t be staying at this Richmond or any other going forward.
MMARC88Art Hotel's main room has a view of the Sakurajima volcano, which is very beautiful. However, the only drawback is that the terrace door cannot be opened. This may be due to guest safety issues.
The most commendable thing was the male staff at the front desk. Since we didn’t speak Japanese, we asked him to call a yakiniku restaurant to reserve a seat for us. He very politely called the yakiniku restaurant immediately and asked us to The process was very pleasant.
GGuest UserFirst of all, I am happy with the affordable accommodation price. Instead, the room facilities are old. This time I used the cheapest plan, so I was a little worried about the musty smell of the bathroom and air conditioner. The size of the rooms has a relaxing feeling that is not in the cheap business of the city. It is recommended for those who say that small rooms are not good even if they are clean. For those who like alcohol, isn't it unbearable to have a shochu tasting corner? The fun of business trips is local sake! I would like to recommend it to my boss who took care of me. I was also taught that the hotel at work is a place to sleep. The location is good and the downtown area crowded with restaurants is within walking distance. There is an arcade roof, so it seemed convenient even in bad weather. Recommended for business use and traveling alone. The staff's response was also very good.
