"February 2026, Eastern Hokkaido - The Life I Dream Of~ After a full day of touring on the Akan Bus Kushiro Shiretoko line, I arrived at the hotel around 6 PM. I still tend to call it Kitakobushi Hotel, as I'm used to it. The online reviews for Kitakobushi Hotel are exceptionally high, which made me really look forward to my stay. Objectively, the hotel's public area facilities and services were impeccable. There were several record players in quiet corners, allowing guests to immerse themselves in nostalgic golden oldies. The lounge offered a rich selection of free pastries, snacks, alcoholic beverages, and drinks – enough to enjoy all afternoon without getting bored. You could also luxuriate in the outdoor foot bath while gazing at the drift ice on the Sea of Okhotsk. There was even an entertainment room with ping-pong tables and more. I'd say, if you don't have time to just relax at the hotel and enjoy these free services, then perhaps Kitakobushi isn't for you, as these are its core values. Next, the guest rooms. I booked two types: a sea view twin room and a deluxe sea view twin room. Both face the Sea of Okhotsk, offering direct views of the drift ice. The main difference is that the deluxe room is larger and more spacious, and on a higher floor. However, I found the room facilities quite ordinary, even a bit dated, not on the same level as the services and facilities outside the guest rooms. If we were just talking about the rooms, there's a significant gap between Kitakobushi and La Vista; they're not comparable. But the free public services provided are simply outstanding, solidifying my decision to stay at Kitakobushi every time I visit Shiretoko! If you've booked various hiking activities, they'll pick you up at the hotel lobby, so you just need to wait there. Right next to the hotel are two convenience stores, Seicomart and 7-Eleven, and within a few hundred meters, there are also quite a few restaurants. So, if you haven't booked the hotel's buffet, finding food nearby isn't an issue. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied. I'll definitely choose Kitakobushi again on my next trip to Shiretoko."

"A friend stayed here and said that the soundproofing was not good and the young people did not get a good rest. I couldn't book a hotel room that day. I was at Utoro's place so I called and asked if it was the last hotel. It took Utoro half an hour to drive to the hotel. You can book early as there are not many accommodations there."

"We love the ambience and everything about the hotel! Furnishing are very carefully and intentionally designed, really appreciated the overall cozyness we felt during our stay. Sadly we had to give the bathhouse a miss due to our schedule, but we enjoyed our stay regardless. The only confusion we had was the check in/check out timing — the hotel page says check out is 11am, but we got a phone call at 10am telling us we’ve exceeded the check out timing. Page also mentions check in by 6pm, but we were only able to arrive at 9pm+ due to our flight and car rental processes, hence we checked in multiple times with the hotel. They were kind enough to assure us to drive safely as we can check in any time."

"The hotel is built on a mountain, and trying to walk around was quite tiring. The room was spacious, but housekeeping doesn't come daily. Currently, all of Japan is embracing eco-friendliness, so most hotels only clean every two nights, and some even every three nights. Those who sign up for tours or activities will be picked up directly at the hotel. The hotel also offers a free shuttle to the Utoro Bus Center. If you miss the shuttle, I believe the hotel can also arrange a drop-off. The buffet was extensive, but eating the same things every day got a bit boring. Personally, I still prefer set meals. I tasted something sour in the chawanmushi. At first, I thought my taste buds were off, but after smelling it, I confirmed it was indeed sour and informed the staff. The public bath has several pools. The open-air hot spring bath is a bit small, but it wasn't crowded."

"今回北海道外回り1周旅行で滞在。お値段も安いので3泊予約。ここを中継基地にして知床・羅臼に翌日は阿寒湖・摩周湖巡りをしました。教員住宅をリフォームしたので当然古さはありますがそれなりに綺麗ですし台所には食器から調理器具まで完備、お風呂のシャワーの水圧も充分。トイレも洗浄機能付きです。観光ドライブ帰りには近所？の地元スーパーで海産物を翌日はジンギスカンと観光料金ではない適正な値段で買えてとても満足した食事も出来ました。豪華なホテルで美味しい食事や温泉を希望する方には向いてないと思いますが早起きすると静かで清々しい朝を散歩することもできます。朝食を取ってそれから200kmぐらいのドライブをして夕方には食材を買って帰りお風呂に入って夕飯、美味しいお酒も堪能できとても楽な旅となりました。a uの電波が入りにくいのですがブースターを貸してくれます。オーナーの方も優しくてとても良い思い出になりました。"

"The location is convenient. The bus from the hotel is a 3-minute walk from the hotel, and the Michi-no-no-Stop (where you can take the Akan Bus) is also a 3-minute walk away. The 7-11 is also a 3-4-minute walk away. The rooms are a bit dated, but well-maintained. They have balconies, and the sea view rooms offer views of the rocks. The waiters are also very polite. However, the buffet is quite ordinary. It's basically the same breakfast and dinner, with no fruit. If it weren't for the small iron plate of beef, it would have been completely unremarkable."

"Our room was new and nice. Has a bit vintage vibe in the interior design. Breakfast has everything you need and is tasty. The customer service and onsen are great. Everything went very smoothly. I wish they had a currency exchange automat (like Smart exchange) as no cash currency exchange options in any city nearby (banks do not do it at all). Hotel is of a good level to provide this service. Why this is needed - we thought payment will be processed online through Trip.com but they requested to pay in cash AFTER checkout. Normally this is at least mentioned when checking in. Also they changed the onsen fee recently and when we booked it was of lower price. We literally had to give out all cash we had. Overall we liked our stay, but the payment issue left some bad impression about the hotel."

"Stayed for two nights, and Doton was beautiful. **Amenities**: No private bathroom, showering requires using the public bath. **Cleanliness**: Pretty good. **Environment**: You can see deer nearby, and it's a walkable distance to 7-11 if you don't have luggage. **Service**: You can contact the front desk for check-in and check-out, and they can help with transport to Utoro Bus Terminal."

"Absolutely loved everything about this place! I stayed overnight with my friend and her family. Yuta (owner's son) and his mother went above and beyond to give us spectacular experience! Food was top quality, facility was extremely clean, Onsen water was so silky, delicious Gelato and good opportunity to try varieties of Japanese alcohol.
