One of Shanghai's most iconic and legendary historical landmarks, the Fairmont Peace Hotel boasts a history that overshadows that of any other hotel in the Far East. With origins dating back more than eight decades, this beloved landmark once served as the social heart of the city and a glamorous playground for the elite.

I’ve lived and traveled around China for 6 years and have been to Shanghai countless times trying many different types and levels of hotels. The Fairmont Peace Hotel is by the far the best I’ve ever experienced in Shanghai thus far. The service at check in was fantastic and friendly and so accommodating. The lady spoke perfect English which helped me a lot and went so far as to walk us to our room and explain some key points. All staff are wonderful and smiling and so willing to help. The room was clean and quiet and had all the modern finishings to make life easy while blended into a beautiful and traditional style. The Jazz Band is a must see and the small museum is lovely. The Phoenix Restaurant produced some delicious food. Overall I cannot stop singing the praises of this hotel. Also location is fantastic for tourists. Right on the Bund and close to subway stations and taxi pickup points if needed.

We celebrated a birthday in Pudong and picked Shangri-La as an impromptu destination. It was a Perfect location for leisure and nice dining. The staff was also kind enough to offer a complimentary birthday drink and fruit. The room had a Nice open view balanced between the city and the river. The Cozy bedding was good, too. The final visit to the jazz bar was really nice. The bar had THE VIEW, and the staff were very friendly. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. We enjoyed the stay. We Will definitely come back next time.

We had an amazing stay at this hotel, thanks especially to Jackie at the front desk. Although we arrived early, she kindly checked us in and let us know our room would be ready in about 1.5 hours. She offered to store our luggage free of charge so we could explore comfortably, and when we returned, she even surprised us with a gift bag full of drinks—such thoughtful service! The location is unbeatable: right across from Nanjing West Pedestrian Street, directly connected to New World shopping centre, and just a short walk to People’s Square and the metro. The Bund is also within walking distance—about 30 minutes if you’re up for a stroll. There are so many food options around. Our room was clean, spacious, and located on a high floor just as we requested. Facilities were excellent, and every staff member we interacted with was warm and helpful. We’d absolutely stay here again on our next visit to Shanghai!

We are given a warm welcome and free upgrade to a higher floor for a better view. Appreciate that. Encountered a small incident when we check in. Something fell from the ceiling and nearly hit my friend. Feedback to reception n investigation was quickly carried out. Impressed at their quick turnaround. Findings it was dried paint from the ceiling. Have me wondering. Quite a big patch and corners are sharp. I took a pic of one of them. We were given upgrade to higher floor with desserts n sweets. However the access to the executive lounge that came with the room was not granted. Hotel will have give us the full access if they are sincere in their apology. That will be an extra step and beyond from Marriott to set them apart. Anyway, their housekeeping is mediocre. Dusty at some places and they did not clear the used cutlery. Expect the guests to wash ? Other than this , the rest of the stay is still enjoyable. Location is near Nanjing road n malls n dining. McDonald CHAGEE n subway downstairs. Need to take didi to the bund. Short drive.

Overall, my stay was excellent and exceeded expectations. The only drawback was the initial arrival experience — there was no clear signage for check-in, and staff at the concierge were chatting amongst themselves. We had to approach them before being told check-in was on Level 2. Thankfully, the front desk team more than made up for it. Special thanks to Locke and Skai (hope I got the names right!) — they were warm, professional, and even upgraded us to a suite. I also asked for the Conrad bear (I collect them!) and they kindly sent it to my room, which I truly appreciated. Room service was prompt and efficient. However, the concierge service could be better organized. We only had two parcels and used luggage storage, but the experience felt less polished compared to other Shanghai hotels, which usually impress with their efficiency. Still, I had a great stay and would definitely choose this hotel again when I return to Shanghai.

LLion S 2025.07.02
My biggest issue with this hotel was the inconsistent level of service from the staff. The reception team lacked efficiency and struggled with fluent English, which was surprising for a hotel of this caliber. Room service was equally underwhelming, the food I ordered fell far below expectations. To their credit, one senior manager handled my complaint professionally, apologizing and offering a complimentary dinner at one of the hotel’s clubs as compensation. Unfortunately, I didn’t catch their name, but they were the only staff member who truly met the standards of a 5-star establishment. However, the next day, another member of staff, one who doesn’t typically interact with guests, raised their voice at me, which was completely unacceptable. Overall, my experience was far from satisfying and not what one would expect from a luxury hotel. While there were brief moments of proper service, the inconsistency and unprofessional behavior significantly impacted my stay.

I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for the outstanding service and care we received during our recent stay at Cordis, Shanghai from April 17 to April 19. Although we encountered some challenges during our trip, your exceptional team—especially the remarkable young lady whom I believe to be a senior supervisor or manager—immediately sprang into action, resolving our concerns swiftly and effortlessly within hours. Thanks to your professionalism and dedication, our journey was beautifully saved, allowing us to fully enjoy our stay. Beyond your impeccable service, everything about our experience was truly delightful. The room was in excellent condition, offering both comfort and elegance, while the coffee was a wonderful touch of indulgence. What truly took our breath away was the spectacular sunrise view from both the living room and bedroom—an unforgettable sight that made our mornings feel magical. Your unwavering commitment to excellence has left a lasting impression on us, and without a doubt, we will be returning to Cordis on our future visits to Shanghai. As a delightful personal touch, my daughter absolutely adores the fluffy Cody Red Panda—her new cherished bedtime companion. The hotel is convenient to Century Park and the nearby convention centre. I quite enjoyed my stay - the room was large and comfortable. The bed was huge and comfortable Housekeeping was friendly but some of the breakfast staff need retraining - I’ve never been grunted into a breakfast before. I didn’t much like the hot food of the breakfast but there was a good range of salad and fruit and the coffee was great.

GGoldnThe service in this hotel felt as if I had booked a Diamond rated hotel!! Everyone was so polite, super friendly and willing to help at a moments notice without even having to ASK for help! From showing my mom and I our room, helping with luggage, super accommodating with shuttle bus for Disney, and always near with our “taxi” issues (which, they were so patient and understanding while dealing with rude people!). The food was good, for me personally though, I easily get sick so the porridge, rice and vegetables were great options! Although perhaps there needs to be a bit more variety I will say, the tea service was fantastic!! Overall, everything was excellent! 😊✨👌

จารุวรรณDisappointing Experience at The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai I stayed at The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai for two nights, and unfortunately, my experience was far from the luxury service I expected. 1. Discrimination at Flair Rooftop Restaurant On my first night, I visited Flair, the hotel's rooftop restaurant. Before going, I was told at the lobby that the restaurant operates on a first-come, first-served basis, with no reservations. However, when I arrived at around 5:50 PM, the restaurant was only 20% occupied, yet the host told me it was ”fully booked.” Then, the host questioned my intent, asking whether I was there for drinks or dinner. When I said ”dinner,” he suddenly mentioned a 1,600-yuan minimum spending requirement. I agreed without hesitation and ended up spending over 2,200 yuan. But what truly bothered me was the initial rejection and the selective enforcement of the minimum charge, implying that I was being judged based on my appearance or nationality. If the restaurant was truly full, why was I offered a table once I confirmed I would spend a significant amount? 2. Misleading Room Upgrade Offer & Hidden Promotions When I checked in, I had already booked a suite with a city view for around 4,000 yuan. However, the receptionist tried to upsell me a Pearl Tower view for an additional 3,300 yuan, which is an unreasonable price just for a different view. What’s worse is that she failed to inform me about an existing hotel promotion: (cant remember the amount exactly) If I pre-purchased 1,000 yuan, I could use 1,400 yuan at Flair rooftop restaurant. I only found out about this the next day and when I asked whether I could retroactively apply this promotion to my bill (which was charged to my room), I was told it was not possible because I had to buy the package in advance. Had I known about this offer beforehand, I would have gladly used it. Instead, the staff prioritized upselling me a more expensive view rather than informing me of real benefits available to hotel guests. 3. Concierge Service & Taxi Nightmare The service at the concierge was another major disappointment. I had a reservation at a Chinese restaurant across the river and asked the concierge to arrange a taxi for me. Knowing that taxis in Shanghai can be unreliable and tricky (as I had experienced the night before with an airport taxi taking me to three wrong hotels and turning off the meter), I was relieved when the concierge used Didi (a ride-hailing app) to book a ride. However, when the car arrived, the concierge instructed a bellboy to walk me to the car, but he never confirmed whether it was actually mine. Just as the door was closing, a woman with luggage rushed in, claiming it was her ride to the airport. It turned out the car was not for me but for an entirely different passenger! At this point, I was already late for my dinner reservation. When I walked back to the concierge to ask what happened, he seemed irritated and dismissively said, ”Don’t worry” before reluctantly walking me to the correct car. This lack of professionalism and carelessness was incredibly frustrating. If you’re arranging a ride for a guest, ensure they get into the correct car. Final Thoughts This all happened in just one night—I can't imagine what else could go wrong during my stay. I sincerely hope no other guests have to go through such an experience. The Ritz-Carlton brand is known for its luxury and top-tier hospitality, but what I encountered was discriminatory treatment, misleading sales tactics, and poor service coordination. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and improves their service, ensuring all guests receive fair and professional treatment, regardless of their appearance or nationality. Ps: nice swimming pool by the way!!

BBenBayThe service of the hotel is what you will get from a 5 start hotel. The room looks a bit too old, and the amenities (TV, shower, hair dryer etc.) inside the room are quite outdated. CChan Kwan WaiStayed here recently and overall had a pretty average experience considering a big brand like Pullman. The location is fantastic — right above the metro, which makes getting around super convenient. That said, the hotel could use a bit of refreshing. I had to change rooms after the first night due to a water heater issue. But shoutout to the relations manager, who handled the situation really well and even upgraded me to a nicer room, which definitely made the rest of my stay more pleasant. One thing that could really be improved — ******* deliveries. It’s quite a hassle to go down to collect items yourself. Would be a huge plus if they had delivery robots or some system to send items up to the rooms, like some other hotels in Shanghai already do. All in all, decent stay with great service recovery, but a revamp of the hotel is overdue.

YYUE SKCWe were going for a 4D3N trip for my birthday. The room was nice in a comfortable size and with a great view. The location is perfect to me and very convenient. It is walkable distance to the Bund along with many popular shops. It will be nicer if more amenities would be provided, eg. comb, toothbrushes. The water overflowed in the shower room while I was taking shower the next morning of our arrival unfortunately. I called the Service Center and the act quickly. The technician came right away checking. In another 5 mins, staff Dylan came for a room change with an upgrade. Dylan is professional and considerate. He checked my preferences of room even for the upgrade.

FFunky APThe hotel is really great. The staff is always helpful and of course it's an Accor brand style. I got an upgrade room due to my Ctrip membership rewards, and very spacious room with washing machine and a small kitchen facility. It was like a mini studio room. The place is quite convenient and very quiet. I had a pleasant stay. The breakfast had multiple options, but would request to write down what all was included in the dish or atleast put a sign of vegetarian or non Vegetarian. Overall great hotel room, but it's time to refurbish. I can see quiet oldish and carpet being faded. Thanks Accor, you never disappoint me.

GGuest UserThe hotel’s location and view were excellent—particularly if you choose one of the Bund or river view rooms. However, there was a construction site directly in front of the hotel, and the noise was quite disruptive; I could clearly hear it from the 23rd floor, and it kept me awake from early morning. The Vue rooftop bar is lovely—arguably one of the nicest in Shanghai along the rooftop at Bund 18. The staff had a somewhat aloof demeanour, and only a few spoke English, so communication often required the use of a translation app. The room quality was fairly standard—nothing luxurious—but the price was reasonable compared to other luxury hotels along the Bund. That said, the service level was noticeably below that of places like the Fairmont or Waldorf Astoria, both of which are more centrally located in the heart of the Bund, near Nanjing Road, the famous 2km shopping street. Of course, the Bund-view rooms at those hotels come at a much steeper price. The gym was quite basic—functional but nothing special—and the indoor pool was similarly standard, so don’t expect luxury in those areas. I used Didi to get around, and the hotel’s location was very convenient in that regard. If I find a good deal with one of the true luxury brands, I’d probably opt for that instead. However, I wouldn’t rule out returning to the Hyatt on the Bund—it’s a decent option if it fits your budget. I didn’t try the breakfast, as there are plenty of great cafés and coffee shops in Shanghai.

TTriciaaaaaaKunlun Jing’an is our go-to hotel whenever we visit Shanghai. We live in Hangzhou and often travel to Shanghai, usually on weekends. Since moving to Hangzhou last year, we’ve always stayed at this hotel—it’s become our preferred choice because of the excellent service, comfortable rooms, and outstanding staff. Everyone, from the concierge to the hotel bar, room service, breakfast team, and front desk, has been helpful and professional. We’ve never had any issues during our stays—in fact, this was our fifth time staying here. However, during our recent stay on Friday night, for my husband’s weekend birthday celebration, we encountered some problems. We checked in late and went straight out for dinner. When we returned to our room, I stepped on a wet patch next to the bed. I was fairly certain it was urine, but we gave the hotel the benefit of the doubt, assuming it might just be water. We called the operator—who, I must say, was not the most helpful staff member we’ve encountered here. She sent two employees to inspect the wet spot, and they insisted it was only water. We offered to dry it ourselves with a hairdryer, so my husband tried. As soon as he began, a strong odor became apparent—it definitely smelled like urine. My husband pressed tissues onto the rug to check the liquid’s colour, and they turned yellow. We called the operator again, and she said someone would come to re-examine it. After waiting 15 minutes with no response, we called once more at 11:30 PM—I was exhausted by this point. My husband spoke to the same person, who assured us someone would arrive soon. Again, no one came. At 12:30 AM, my husband called again, now extremely frustrated. Finally, a staff member arrived and called someone on the phone what I assume was the hotel manager. To our disappointment, the manager asked an unreasonable question: “What time did you check in? Why didn’t you report this immediately?” My husband replied that we had entered the room at 7 PM, we were thinking why we would inspect every inch of the rug for wet patches? Eventually, they moved us to another room of the same type. After settling in, I took a shower and reached for the body lotion from the bathroom amenities—only to find it half-used. By then, I was at my limit and wanted to complain at the front desk, but it was already 1 AM, and I was too tired. We decided to sleep and address it in the morning. After breakfast, we spoke to a front desk staff member, who was very kind, apologetic, and helpful. She brought the manager, who also apologized and upgraded us to a beautiful suite. While we appreciated the gesture, this might be our last stay at this hotel. That said, the staff at Kunlun Jing’an are truly excellent—this experience was just an unfortunate exception.
