Hot Springs Hotels in Shimoda

This hotel rating 4.2 is really deserved! First of all, there is no seaside, just in the vicinity, there is no scenery through the window, all are houses. The equipment in the house is also very poor, old and not retro. . . . Secondly, breakfast only bread boiled white egg milk juice. There is no hot food, no tray service, it is full buffet. Eating on the first floor, there is no scenery outside. Finally, Tangchi is also a pool on the top floor, which is much worse than other soup pools in Japan. Because the price of the May Day has risen sharply, more than 800 in the evening, this price/performance ratio, think about it.

She wanted a proper ryokan experience, so after some searching, we found one that felt right—well-kept, understated, and quietly confident. We arrived just before 5pm and were met at the car park by a gentleman who greeted us by name and carried our luggage in. Inside, we were welcomed by Na (I hope I got that right), who walked us through everything—the onsen, breakfast, the rhythm of the place—before leading us to our room. The ryokan has been around for close to a century, and you can feel it. Not in a grand or showy way, but in the stillness. Standing by the window, looking down at the pond—ducks drifting across, carp circling slowly—it was almost too quiet, the kind that makes you pause without realising. We headed out briefly that evening to explore the small town and grab dinner, but came back early. The onsen drew us in—hot water against the cool night air—and by the time we laid out the futons, everyone was ready to sink in. Soft, simple, and unexpectedly comfortable. Morning came gently—birds in the background, ducks already awake. At breakfast, our family name was waiting for us, and the spread was generous without being excessive. We ate more than we should have. By 10am, we were packing up again. All the staff was there to send us off. 

Although it was quite far from the dining place and the large communal bath in a remote room, I was able to enjoy the summer Obon holiday by freely using the cart. I was impressed by the many stars in the night sky. The bath was also good and I was able to go home with beautiful skin. The landlady came to greet me at the time of meal and asked me to change the rice. Thank you very much. It is a place I want to go again.

This was my first time visiting Minamiizu, and a friend recommended this hotel – it truly lived up to expectations! The accommodations were great, and the food was delicious. My only complaint is regarding the shuttle service. The day before check-in, I specifically asked about pickup details through Trip.com customer service. The hotel only sent a text message with the pickup time, but not the location. I assumed, like most hotels, that it would pick up in front of the JR station. To my surprise, I waited from 2 PM to 3 PM and saw no sign of the hotel bus. I started to feel something was wrong and checked Trip.com, where I saw a guest comment mentioning that after 3:10 PM, there would be no more pickups. Panicked, I immediately called the hotel. That's when I learned the hotel bus has a specific waiting point, around the corner, to the right of the JR station (and then to the right again). If this isn't communicated beforehand, and there are no signs at the station, it's impossible for guests to know where to wait. Therefore, I strongly suggest the hotel standardize its pickup service by clearly stating both the pickup time and location in advance. Both pieces of information are essential!

It's a very old-fashioned hotel. The air conditioner in the public area can't be turned on. It's not very hot. There is no toilet in the room. You need to walk to the public area. I happened to live on the second floor this time and had to carry my luggage up. There is no sense of service and the hotel is also No meals are provided. If you arrive late, you can only buy instant noodles from a nearby supermarket.

Amazing place to stay,aesthetic view and a great amazing dinner and breakfast ambience. I choose and booked the private villa with pool and which is good,I enjoyed the dinner foods they served us,so classy and elegant presentation. So I ordered the bottle of botega champagne which is fit for the foods they offered. Lovely it was and amazing wonderful evening. After we had a night pool with my partner and we bring our own foods and drinks champagne for the long night to celebrate our stay. I’m very satisfied for my stay at this place. 🏝️The river view is amazing, the white sand beach next to it is so beautiful, and you can see the sunrise from the room. 🤵🏻The staff is very good and the hotel is currently occupied by Japanese people 🍽️It is recommended to book a set meal with breakfast and dinner, which is very cost-effective. As expected, it has a long history and the building is old. However, the location from the room offered a panoramic view of the sea, and the indoor baths were also well-maintained, making it an excellent choice. The food was a buffet, but the quality of everything from seafood and meat to Chinese food, desserts, and alcoholic beverages was excellent and very satisfying. Overall, the staff's customer service was excellent, making this an inn I would recommend for family trips.

The key to the room was wobbly, and I couldn't open it unless I did it well. The moment I opened the room, I was a little worried about the smell, but there was a reset in each room and it was okay. I don't recommend it for cleanliness, but the food was delicious with a wide variety of foods. If you enter the pool in the morning, it is OK, but in the evening it will be a little dirty. The sauna temperature setting was low. I complained a lot, but the meal was really satisfying
