Excellent
PPhillipweiOverall, it's a 60 out of 100, just barely passing. This score is based on Capella's own positioning as a luxury hotel. Generally speaking, it's not on par with The Peninsula Shanghai, and it's a world apart from Capella Bangkok. I won't go into the good parts, as those are what a hotel of this caliber should deliver anyway. Let me mention some areas for improvement, so they can be addressed. The service was generally up to standard. The concierge, front desk, spa, boutique, cafe, and restaurants were all good. Engineering and in-room dining had slight flaws. As for cleanliness, aside from a hair on the bathroom glass door and some dust in hard-to-reach spots, everything else was acceptable. Considering the high occupancy during Christmas, the overall cleanliness was tolerable. The breakfast delivered to the room wasn't hot right away, indicating that meal preparation times weren't well coordinated during peak occupancy. Finally, let's talk about the room's maintenance... it practically deserves a 0. The nightlight under the bed had fallen off, over half of the LED lights on the closet rail weren't working, and the two vanity lights in the bathroom buzzed so loudly it gave me a headache. The living room air conditioner, even at 32 degrees and maximum fan speed, provided no heating. Both the living room and bedroom intercom systems constantly emitted a buzzing sound while on standby. The most outrageous part was that neither of the TVs in the media room and bedroom worked. We called engineering to fix them, and re-connecting didn't help. Then the engineer actually said the TVs were broken... which is ridiculous. We could see the TV menus, so how could the TVs be broken? It was clearly a cable TV signal issue. Even though the hotel proactively offered solutions, including trying a new TV, guests pay over 6000 RMB a night to stay, not to help the hotel inspect rooms and do repairs. A final, completely unacceptable issue was that the electronic scale in the bathroom showed 'Lo' for low battery. That 'Lo' really showcased the quality of Capella Jian Ye Li from another perspective – a slight 'low' peeking through its seemingly luxurious exterior. The Christmas trees in the lobby and restaurant had a pungent plastic smell within two meters; couldn't they buy a slightly better quality tree? And look at the cable ties – comparing them to Mitsui Kyoto and Capella Bangkok from the same group, the quality is truly beyond words. Luxury hotels compete on details, and Capella Jian Ye Li, Shanghai, has a long way to go!

KKuailexiaoshaonianEREI think I stayed in the cheapest room here 🥹 Initially, I didn't want to come because the communication felt a bit off, but I ended up coming anyway to avoid further hassle, and I was pleasantly surprised! The decor is so unique! I'd definitely stay here again just for the artistic and lively design. Since I'd eaten at this vegetarian restaurant at Yonghe Temple in Beijing before, it felt like visiting an old friend. I personally love this kind of vibe. My family found it just okay; they prefer the Shangri-La's dining and lodging. I don't usually like green, but after spending a night in this room, I realized that green actually suits my 'five elements' (a Chinese philosophical concept). The amenities here, like the tissue box, aren't expensive but are all beautiful. There are so many thoughtful little details. Breakfast was exquisite, even though there was no meat, you could tell a lot of thought went into designing it! They even had vegetarian hot pot for breakfast, which was cool. I wonder if it was because I was in the cheapest room that they didn't give me the hot pot when I asked for it 😂 My bad, I guess. The only thing is, with such beautiful design, the human element could be improved just a tiny bit more. Late-night congee: I didn't get to try it, and I was too lazy to ask. Anyway, I'll definitely be back for the beautiful design! Highly recommended.

YyxljThis old house, nestled in the city center, is a rare gem in Shanghai's bustling urban landscape, with lush greenery everywhere. The hotel's service is exceptional, from the welcoming front desk staff who checked me in, to the complimentary hearty wonton soup, fruit platter, and fresh squeezed juice – every detail reflects their thoughtfulness. It's just a ten-minute walk to Wukang Road, and the tree-lined streets along the way are a delight. Another highlight is the fantastic breakfast, featuring fresh squeezed juices, braised fish, and braised ribs, surpassing the offerings of many hotels in Shanghai costing three or four thousand. I'll definitely be back for a second visit if I get the chance.

GGuest UserAfter a bit of wandering, I arrived at HOSHINOYA Lujiazui Oriental Qiancang on a rainy day. Although it wasn't as dazzling as it would be under the sun, it had its own unique charm. The history of the old Chen family residence was gently recounted by the eloquent guide; the staff patiently waited for the incense to form during the incense-making activity; and the waiters provided warm and attentive service for every meal over the two days. Overall, I was very satisfied with my stay at HOSHINOYA, a century-old residence offering 'peace and prosperity' (a play on words). Happily moving on to my next destination!

GGuest UserThis was my first time staying at the Broadway Mansions Hotel. It's conveniently located, easily accessible from Hongqiao Airport via Metro Line 10. You're right on the Bund, and Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street is less than a ten-minute walk away. The iconic Pudong skyline is clearly visible from here. The hotel has a long history; while the facilities are a bit dated, they are clean and tidy. A big thank you to the front desk for upgrading my room – the service was excellent, and all the staff were very polite. Breakfast was decent. I'd definitely stay here again.

YYileeeThe location is excellent, offering a quiet retreat in the midst of the hustle and bustle. It's super convenient to get to Jing'an Temple and other places. **Facilities:** They have a washer-dryer combo, a Siemens model, but for some reason, everything comes out super wrinkled. It would be great if the bathroom had underfloor heating; I imagine it gets quite cold in winter. Alternatively, a larger bath mat would be helpful. **Service:** There isn't much service to speak of. The front desk guy was polite but not overly friendly. The lounge was just a bunch of aunties chatting and cracking melon seeds; they didn't really acknowledge guests or ask if anyone needed anything. Plus, a latte was like 45 yuan, which isn't good value, especially since it wasn't made with any special beans. If you're not looking for top-notch service, I'd still recommend staying here. The room itself is perfectly fine. I just wish they had more one-bedroom apartments; I'd consider a long-term stay then. A studio isn't really suitable for two people for an extended period.

NNingmengfengmiyouzinaiTraveling to Shanghai with my family for the May Day holiday, we chose to stay at the Yangtze Hotel, and instantly, we were transported back to the glamorous old Shanghai of yesteryear 🌃. This historic building, dating back to 1933, is incredibly charming. The colorful dome in the lobby and the vintage carved details everywhere exude an air of elegance. It boasts a prime location in the city center, with convenient subway access to all parts of the city and numerous shopping districts nearby. In the mornings, we enjoyed watching the city come alive, and in the evenings, we'd lean on the balcony, admiring the night view. It was so peaceful and relaxing, washing away all the fatigue from our travels – truly the most healing sanctuary for our May Day trip to Shanghai. The breakfast was varied and delicious, and there were more foreign guests than Chinese, making it feel like we were abroad.

GGanlegadewoI came to the Jinjiang Hotel, which has a hundred-year history, specifically because of its reputation. The doormen were all very welcoming, greeting me warmly and helping with the car door and luggage. The service was excellent. The location is absolutely fantastic, with Changle Road and Julu Road right downstairs, perfect for dining, late-night snacks, and shopping. The facilities are indeed a bit dated, but if you're looking for a nostalgic experience, it's a great choice.

GGuest UserThis was my second stay, and I've successfully recommended it to my friends too. The hotel has its own garden and is housed in a building from the last century. Despite its age, the hygiene is excellent. The only downside was the showerhead. It's very quiet and super close to Hengshan Road Metro Station. There are several restaurants and cafes nearby, so you could easily spend a leisurely day just exploring the vicinity. All in all, I'll definitely choose to stay here again next time I'm in Shanghai.

GGuest UserThis classic hotel has undergone a fantastic renovation! The rooms are decorated in a modern-retro, Old Shanghai Art Deco style. Each floor's elevator lobby features an antique item with a description, which is a nice touch. The room was spacious, and the view from the window overlooked Xujiahui Park – a sea of green, absolutely stunning and pleasing to the eye. The toiletries were individual L'Occitane bottles, which is great as many hotels now opt for large dispensers. The hairdryer was a Dyson! The mini-fridge was stocked with various complimentary beverages, and there were also free crisps and snacks. The coffee capsules were LAVAZZA. The instructions for the bathroom and shower were very thoughtful and easy to understand, even for seniors. On the afternoon tea floor, you can also buy cute and delicate fridge magnets. I checked in late and missed afternoon tea, but the happy hour was excellent. They offered hot dishes, cold dishes, Chinese dim sum, and Western desserts, along with a variety of drinks. You could easily make it a full dinner; the food was delicious, and I especially loved the creamy mushroom chicken 😋. The buffet breakfast, though not extensive, had all the essentials and was of high quality. The hotel's location is superb – a quiet oasis in a bustling area, just a 5-minute walk from Hengshan Road subway station. The International Peace Maternity and Child Health Hospital and Xujiahui commercial district are also less than a 10-minute walk away. The hotel also has an artificial lake and a small pavilion, which are lovely for a stroll. The staff were all very welcoming; they would greet you with a smile whenever you met. Ms. Yu at the front desk, in particular, provided very professional, enthusiastic, and thoughtful service. It was a truly wonderful stay.
