Overall great experience. Great location and amenities. Spotlessly clean. Great breakfast options. Friendly staff. A little bit of air con noise and bed is a bit on the firm side but tolerable.
We stayed in a family room and it would be great to have a children’s stepping stool for washing hands etc. Also make sure you bring enough clothes. Laundry service is very expensive and takes 2 days on average.

staff were excellent from front desk to dining hall and room service. we got an upgrade on a minimal sum with a promotion which the reception shared with us there. we wouldn't have known about it. i would recommend this place and stay with the chain again if i ever get the chance to come again. the location was great. all walking distance to sightseeing and shopping strip along jingan.
on a side note, i stayed with at least 3 Atour hotels this past 10 days in China and they were all comfortable and welcoming. loved all. they really take into consideration the kids and have tiny bedroom slippers for children unlike most European or American chains.

My friends in China recommended this hotel and told me that she loves it because it’s relatively inexpensive compared to similar hotels in the area. She also stressed that it is a native Chinese brand hotel that it is easier for her to order food and just anything she needs. I was pleasantly surprised by its decor, service, cleanliness and modern amenities. Our room had a nice big tub, huge shower and toilet with bidet. It’s been a while since I visited Japan and I forgot how nice to have a bidet. The breakfast was a nice addition to our stay since it is included. It served both Chinese and American breakfast with some nice local dishes. The decor is modern Chinese Jiangnan style featuring paintings, Calligraphy, and 3-D animation of gold fishes. I enjoyed working out at the gym as well. Super clean and all equipment are easy to use. There is a Pilate room as well. I didn’t have time to enjoy it. The staff are friendly and helpful. Not to mention that I asked for a power cord, it was delivered by a robot. Five star experience! .

Beautiful location, lots to do with children. Indoor and outdoor pool very good even with small children. Room itself clean, but the carpets could be cleaned/vacuumed better. General problem with carpets, maybe just remove carpets in the room...rather unhygienic especially with a crawling toddler. Service was good, very friendly, although sometimes a bit slow and you always had to make them aware yourself that you needed cutlery or napkins etc.

It is very good to have a suitable place for business office when traveling.
During the entire stay, whether it was the warm reception at the front desk or the thoughtful and meticulous room service, I felt the hotel staff's persistent pursuit of service quality. Let every moment I am here be filled with comfort and peace of mind. Here I would like to give special praise to the front desk staff Xiao Chen. Every time I check in, he will contact me in advance to upgrade the room and ask me about my room requirements.
This hotel, with small details like free room upgrades and desks for business personnel, demonstrates what true quality service is. It not only provides a place to stay, but also creates a stay full of warmth and care for guests.

Nothing much nearby. Not for shopping trip. Room is clean and big, strong aircon, but bed quality can be improved. Noticed almost all the appliances in the hotel and toilet amenities are local brand. Good to create local brand awareness and so far everything works well except for their coffee machine in the cafe. Breakfast spread is acceptable but cannot compare to international branded hotels. Coffee is HORRIBLE, please change your coffee machine.. cooked food is cold and not properly covered and saw flies around the food. If you do not have local chinese phone, u cannot connect to their wifi. Television shows all local channels. Price point is almost the same as some international brand names but overall gives off a feeling that they are actually more inclined towards local chinese customers. Staff attitude is excellent but a little too pushy to keep asking you for a 5 star rating review online. Overall still a pleasant stay. Thanks.

The hotel is lovely with vintage glamour style and some touches of Old Shanghai. The lobby and rooms are stylish with lots of furniture. The location is very convenient for going to the airport or railway station. I was here just one night at the end of a long trip so I could be close to the railway station.
If you order delivery, there is a cute robot that delivers it to your door as long as it can fit inside the robot’s cabinet. Very convenient!
There is a big pool I didn’t get a chance to use but it really looked great, I regret not taking a dip in the morning.
The breakfast left a lot to be desired for western options. Just toast and hard boiled eggs, some sausage links typical of Chinese style western breakfast. A couple cereal options and some pastries and cake. However there was a noodle station and some dumplings, etc that were pretty good. If you’re accustomed to Chinese breakfast it wasn’t bad, a step up from 7/11.
Also, for me, the bed was way too hard, and it squeaked when adjusting position at night. I woke up with a sore back.
My main disappointment was the lack of bellhop and concierge. I was ending a long trip and had a lot of luggage I had to carry up a few steps, since the driveway where taxis stop is not directly in front of the lobby door.

The location is quiet in a busy area. The four-and-a-half-story building has well preserved the historical charm of the Shikumen pavilion. The materials used in the renovation of the facilities can be seen to be carefully and attentively, and the linens and bedding are emphasized. I slept until breakfast on the first day and couldn't make it to the restaurant for breakfast 😂 The check-in guidance and room cleaning were timely and in place. Especially the little sister Raven at the front desk was considerate and patient, and maintained a comfortable distance. Everything was prepared in advance. The small gift for leaving the hotel was also very considerate. It is worth coming back to ”visit relatives” in the summer

Aman always stands apart, and Amanyanyun is no exception. This is a stunningly beautiful resort, full of elegance and charm, nestled in the outskirts of Shanghai. Our room was as spacious as usual. The front desk staff were very friendly and enthusiastic. We had an amazing experience cycling through the resort's forest, immersing ourselves in nature and the beautiful scenery. The Jiang Xi cuisine at the resort's Chinese restaurant was also exceptional. The staff's English proficiency and the housekeeping team's room service could use some improvement. However, when we provided this feedback to Mr. Johnny, the Room Manager, he listened to us with genuine sincerity and goodwill. Thus, despite these minor imperfections, Aman remains number one in our hearts.

AAnonymous UserThis hotel offers a luxurious experience, with spacious, well-appointed suites and thoughtful amenities. The food is excellent, and the afternoon tea provides a generous selection. However, the building's design limits natural light and views from the rooms. While the staff is well-trained, English proficiency is limited beyond the front desk. The pool and gym are small but functional. Complimentary minibar items are a nice touch, though hard liquor is excluded. Overall, it's a high-end stay, but given the price, one might expect slightly more.

GGuest UserThe hotel is well-designed and feels like a studio apartment. The hotel staff were super friendly and accommodating. They managed to arrange for early check-in when we arrived in the morning. Always checking on us and making sure we are well-rested! Will return for a stay again :)
김김I have stayed in multiple hotels in SH. Including The Conrad, Renaissance, Pudong Intercontinental and Maxx. Maxx is definitely a hotel with Character, Style, and Color. unlike your everyday & everywhere the same ‘typical 5* hotel’ it has many ‘caring’ features for a truly delightful experience. the flowery scent of the lobby area and the service coffee machine and tomatoes in the lobby, are just some of the small but very delicate warmth that I felt while staying at Maxx. the wooden floor in the room was very good too, especially with kids because carpet floors, how ever much you clean, it does have that raggedy smell with time. but not at maxx. The view? second to none obviously. the location? prime - right in front of the ferry to pudong. and 5-10mins from yuyuan gardens. Especially, the staff. I have had my share of rather unfriendly staff in China. But all of maxx’s staff were sooooo friendly and warm and kind. the door men (both Chinese and western person) - they helped us every time we went up and down the entrance stairs with our pram with the baby, and the check in staff were so caring too. And i see a lot of people complaining about the fact that the staff are not fluent in English. Bro, turn on your google translate man. you are half way across the Earth in China, and no where does it say anywhere ‘our staff are fluent in English’ - ‘when in Rome…’ - But to be fair, Maxx had multiple lady staff who were sufficient in English to my surprise, and she was really nice and helpful. (please give her a raise lol).
Anyway I will definitely stay here again w/o even looking at other hotels in SH for sure. 10/10.

Hhillbilly PA very modern and stylish hotel. We really liked the skylight in the room as well as the separate toilet and shower areas. The room also had many hooks for us to hang things which we thought helped a lot in organising our luggage. The lobby was really stylish and the beers and coffee that you are able to claim for free daily were delicious. The area around the hotel is also really cool. There are museums and I think a school but it is all very stylish and they look really pretty.
The hotel is not really walking distance from any metro stations (in the winter) but if you have the Chinese apps, Alipay or Mei Tuan, you can book bicycle from right outside the hotel and cycle to the nearest Metro station about a six minute cycle. There are also not many food options nearby. There is however one 快餐店which opens late (11pm). I want to thank the staff at the lobby for entertaining our late checkout request because we had missed our train from another region.
EEmiddioI tried to check in at 2pm, was informed that the room was not ready for at least 1 more hour.
Asked the receptionist for a restaurant, and instead of pointing out the ones from the hotel, she sent me to Yu Gardens...
Come back after an hour and was informed that I need to wait for another 30 min at least. I was given a voucher for a soft drink, and I headed to the lounge to get this drink, I showed the voucher to lady and she said for me to have a cold tea that I agreed. At 3:35 stand up to get my key and the waitress ask me to pay for the tea, I pointed out that I got a voucher and she said that voucher was not good for cold tea and I need to pay aroung 230RMB for a tea I didn't want at the beginning, I was there just for the absurd waiting time for the room to be ready! I asked the manager, and they said no need and they would take care...
Arrived in room 1771, a well-appointed room, tried to make a coffee, and the machine was not working... I called the concierge and informed about the machine, after 5 min a lady call me to offer me a bottle.of wine, that I declined as I don't drink offer fruit and at the end an upgrade to the room, I went to the toilet and left the room at 16:00 as I had a meeting. I arrived at the meeting with sweaty clothes and without taking a shower as I got the room over 90 minutes later... I received the key of the new room before I left, when I come back I tried to use the key but was not active, i headed back to reception to check what happened and they activated but didn't apologise for the mistake.
The new room had a view of the Bund, so there was no upgrade of the room itseld was just an upgrade of the view...
The hotel is nice, has good amenities, and breakfast is solid, fresh, but not as much choice as compared to Shangri-la Pudong.
The pool changing room and showers need better cleaning and mantenience.
The people at the reception and at the lounge need better training and level up their English to a better standard, hotel is 5 star, experience is far from it.

BBestbossAlthough my stay was good ! but there's some point that has disappointed me. I wanted to use swimming pool but do to typhoon they closed open swimming pool. It wasn't raining and the wind wasn't so high but they still closed it for 2 days. Also there's no movies on hotel tv and I cannot connect my Apple tv although the tv has this function but they blocked it sp i couldn't connect to the tv and broadcast the movie on tv . The problem this hotel is new but the sealing in common areas is leaking and I had drops dropping on my face at common places , not in the room. The room was good and fine. Breakfast was ok. But I kinda wanted fresh juice. Stuff in hotel was nice but they recognized me and told me about seeing me somewhere before in various locations, I didn't feel comfortable because I prefer to be anonymous in hotel and this one is not cheap. And I want my privacy and anonymity i don't blame stuff but this is just my note. And there was a note that i can use shuttle bus to the shopping mall which is around 17 minutes walk but when i ask about it the staff said its not available on weekends. Then i asked maybe they have car to drop me to the shopping mall they said they don't have. Just saying Because I couldn't rent a hotel downtown for the same amount of money of a big chain brand and get outstanding service but I think the price of this hotel is overpriced. Although my stay was good and I reserved complements from hotel which I thankfull. And the room was clean and high technology.
AAnonymous UserWe booked 3 rooms for 4 nights including breakfast and had a great time staying in Edition. The staffs are very welcoming and friendly, always with smile and attentive.
Breakfast is Ala carte with half buffet style with variety of choices. We truly satisfied with the food. But it was quite boring to have it 4 days in a row.
Room cleaning service is well done and the toiletries are replenished everyday. We also entitled for early bird rewards with a free fruits plate, shopping bag, a small pack of free shampoo and bath products. Our first round of snacks bar are complimentary except for beer and alcohol.
The gym room is not really spacious but fully equipped. The only downside is the swimming pool is quite small, and it would be better if sauna is provided.
Not to mention the strategic location that the metro station is just 2mins walk from the hotel. But the car is not allowed to enter the main road, nevertheless the staffs would help to carry all luggages and the taxi ride can stop at the back door or back street with just few steps away.
Overall, we enjoyed ourself and my family are happy with this hotel.

GGuest UserHotel is not bad, but during our stay, most of the common areas were quite cold. Also, water in the main pool was quite cold, as well as the air temperature, making it unpleasant. It is ok for pure swimming, but since it is a family hotel, temperature should be fine also for kids playing. Service in the Merket restaurant was quite poor, while in the Chinese restaurant the service was very good, as well as the food, much better than in the Market. Breakfast is good.
There is a small outside playground with animals. Some of the animals (the cow, the small rodents…) look a little bit suffering.
If you don’t speak Chinese it is quite difficult to understand what kind of activities can be done (in the hotel or with hotel support), and nobody is proposing anything at first.
All in all, not thinking to come back.

GGuest UserI've previously stayed in the Drama, though it has been a number of years. The facilities are as I remember them to be. That is remarkable, given that the Drama has been in operation for a number of years. The Hotel staff have prioritised maintenance and have done a good job at keeping the place reasonably refreshed.
The hospitality showed to me was wonderful. I did not feel out of place or neglected at any point during the 5 days I was with the Drama. From the Front Desk, to Housekeeping and even Maintenance, everyone was kind, courteous and warm in making me feel at home. As one small example of the hospitality - the Drama had an arrangement where simple supper was provided for all occupants. It felt nice to come back from a long day exploring Shanghai to a bowl of warm porridge.
I would definitely return to the Drama again. Looking forward to my next visit!

GGuest UserThe hotel is getting old, like my room floor was cracked. Whenever I walked into the dressing room, the noise was annoying.
The facilities also very old , especially the sauna room and swimming pool. Service was so so.
Everything is below average, given I’m paying the price to stay at the so called renowned hotel.
I would never come back here again.
