Deqin Guyu Huating Inn Reviews

We stayed in Yubeng during a week when access to the village was closed, and we were the only guests at the hotel. It’s located near the trailhead to Ice Lake and not too far from Lower Yubeng and the Sacred Waterfall (the return hike is steep, but anyone coming to this place should be prepared for long and demanding walks!). There was no room service during our stay (like trash collection), but the hosts were friendly, and the food at the restaurant was very tasty and fairly priced — especially considering the logistical challenges of stocking the kitchen. The room is simple but comfortable. The towels are disposable, which is a bit strange at first, but you get used to it (they actually dry you well). The view from the hotel balcony is unbelievable — definitely worth paying extra for a room with a view. We would happily stay there again.

They gave me a free room upgrade to a room with a nicer view when I said I wanted to take photos of the stars at night! Staff are really friendly and the food at it's restaurant is affordable and nice! They also operate a supermarket right beside their hotel which is very convenient & a bar with nice cocktails if you fancy a drink! Would recommend!

We stayed here for three nights whilst exploring upper Yubeng and doing some of the hikes. The location is great with some good panoramic views of the mountains. Sunset and sunrise are both amazing from here! The service was good, friendly staff and kind people. The room is fine! We had a heater which helped a lot for the cold nights. We didn't like the disposable towels, such a waste! Also the room wasn't cleaned once in our three nights and we had to keep asking for toilet paper/towels ourselves. Apart from that everything was fine. Good vegetarian food too:)

My room was as described. Functional and nice and warm (with heating on) with an excellent hot shower and nice wooden wall beams. The people who run the place are lovely and also offer nice breakfast options in the morning. The only small note I have is that (despite best efforts and a very modern ventilation system in the bathroom) the bathroom is already moldy. I understand that it's a challenge to get under control given the climate. I would stay again next time, and actually spend more than just one night here. There is so much you can explore here!

Great place to stay while hiking. Nice comfortable beds, hot water, electric blankets. Only had disposable towels in my room. Good food in the kitchen also! And hiking poles to borrow (would recommend taking hiking poles to Glacier Lake, not as necessary for the waterfall). GREAT VIEW.

The hotel had the best view and the best service throughout our yunnan trip. They even allowed us to upgrade our room for free. Really recommend this hotel for your yubeng stay!!

VERY DISAPPOINTING! Overall: The inn is nice and confortable but the service is terrible. Service made us feel very unwelcome and ruined the experience. Room: humble but comfortable room. You can ask for a heater, which is very needed in the winter months (we stayed here in late November). Be aware that some rooms are marked as “Mountain View” but in fact you’re in a covered area so won’t really have a view (pictures attached) - we booked one of these rooms but since it was low season we were lucky to get a free upgrade and get one of the few rooms with a nice view. Cleanliness: the rooms are relatively clean, but we had a mouldy shower curtain (see pictures). Amenities: the restaurant / front desk area is very nice and cosy. Service: terrible! Every time we needed their assistance it felt as if we were disturbing them from sitting by the fire (even though they barely had any customers and it seemed as if they were not busy at all). We are international traveler’s that don’t speak Chinese and the service was unhelpful and not welcoming. We’ve had no issues anywhere else in our trip in China, this was definitely the worst we have experienced. After reading other reviews it seems that the boss is very helpful, but he wasn’t there when we stayed at the inn and it appears that the workers don’t do a good job when he is not around. The workers didn’t advise us that we needed crampons for one of the hikes we did (hikers from other inns told us that these were a must) so we had to reluctantly stay one more night to complete the hike. When we booked another night, one service member told us a price and another service person told us a different (lower, almost 100cny lower) price. We were then charged the first (higher) price, which made us feel quite uncomfortable. The day after when we tried to rent crampons from the inn the lady told us that it was 20 cny to rent per day, and that in other places it was 40 cny per day. We decided not to rent them because they looked in very bad condition. We later found out that you can buy them brand new at “meets meili snow mountain” for 35cny and use them for the 2 hikes. We also had to rent hiking poles even though they provide them for free at the hotel given that the ones they had didn’t look in good condition and weren’t tall enough for us (the lady at the desk got frustrated with us because of this). Overall, very unhelpful, impatient service - we felt extremely uncomfortable because of it. If you’re an international traveller and don’t speak much Chinese stay away!! Food: was good but small portions compared to other places. We ended up eating most of our meals elsewhere because the service made us feel very unwelcome. Limited breakfast options, there’s many more options at “meets meili snow mountain”.

Environment: A very good inn, the decoration is done by the owner himself, the wooden decoration is very warm and there is a big heater for warming up. I ate at her house for two days, and the wild mushroom chicken soup hotpot and yak beef hotpot were both delicious. The mushroom chicken soup lacks a little salt and sugar for our taste, but it is precisely because these are not added that when eating mushrooms, you can really taste the feeling of the forest after the rain, which is different from the mushrooms you buy at home. Then the yak hotpot looks spicy and red, but it is actually okay, not spicy and super fragrant. Facilities: There is a supermarket next to the hotel, and there is a bar downstairs, with its own restaurant. The supporting facilities in Yubeng are very comprehensive, with basic facilities, super convenient, and there are feminine hygiene products in the supermarket. Hygiene: The room environment is clean, there is an electric blanket, the toilet is a flush toilet, and the bathing supplies are all disposable. Service: The service is super enthusiastic, like a big family. When we came, it rained and we were soaked. They immediately came to greet us to warm up by the fire, and also moved chairs to let us dry our wet clothes. Because I didn't have enough physical strength, I didn't go to the ice lake with my family for a day. I played Landlord with the proprietress for an afternoon. It was very fun and it was another experience in Yubeng. There are also several cats and puppies in the inn. If you like animals, you will feel very healed. Each one is well raised, and you can see that the owner cares about them very much. During the chat, I also learned that Yubeng has a garbage collection charity group, calling on everyone not to litter when hiking and clean Yubeng. Before leaving, they also gave me a badge they made by themselves as a souvenir. It seems that this requires reporting their guide to lead the team. Thank you very much.

If you want to enjoy the view, this is a good choice. There is no obstruction in front of you, and you can watch the sunrise over Jinshan Mountain while lying on the bed. It is a bit cold in winter, so be careful if you are afraid of cold. It is suitable for walking the ice lake line the next day.
