I've never stayed in a hostel before, let alone in a former jail revamped as one ! Besides the gimmick, the Court is a wonderful place to stay if you are visiting Edinburgh, whether on a budget or not : fantastic location near the St Giles cathedral (where city tours seemingly start from), super friendly staff and surprisingly clean amenities (first time experience in a hostel so I didn't know what to expect quite frankly). Would definitely recommend !

Every single staff member were gorgeous, helpful, welcoming and HAPPY!! Our room was clean, the beds and pillows were really comfortable. We even got ear plugs if we needed them. The showers were hot. We had breakfast there and the prices are very reasonable. We listened to the entertainment (male on acoustic guitar and singing), for the size of the room, the sound level was perfect. Thank you from a couple of old ducks 😂 for a wonderful experience. Love the communal kitchen, I left shampoo and conditioner for someone else to use ❤️

Very convenient location. So close from the train station and the royal mile. The temperature of the room was perfect, not cold, not too warm. Cleanliness good. Bathrooms were clean. Will book it again when visiting Edinburgh as I really liked the location.

From the airport I took the Airlink 100 and drop off at Shandwick Place, then took a short walk for about 0.6 miles to reach the hostel at West Port. You could get a view of the Edinburgh castle right across the hostel. There are cafes, diners and bars just across the road. Victoria street is 5 mins walk away. Everything else is just nearby.
I was abit skeptical to book the mixed dorm at first but it was relatively safe in overall. Specifically requested for a lower bunk bed due to my leg injury & I was assigned exactly the way I wanted. The room is spacious however it has a funny smell though, probably because it was occupied with 12 people. I was given the room on level 1, near to the kitchen & chill-out room. Mixed bathroom was kinda clean but the yellow shower cubicle's shower was broken. I had to keep pressing the button for the water to run.
Everything was great nonetheless. Staffs were friendly. Locker room service was out of my expectation to be frank. I'd recommend friends to stay however preferably ask them to book a private room for personal best interest, and to get good sleep without the ”symphony of snoring”.

The staff were nice, the bed and the toilet was clean. However, the bathroom was dirty. The sleeping experience depends on the people in the room.
Mine was bad because people in the room with me was loud even at 11PM. There was a bar on the ground floor. There was also a kitchen for people to use which was nice. Do I recommend this? If you're saving money, yes. But i recommend bringing slippers to be more comfortable and a lock for your bag for safety.

I didn’t love my stay here, even though everything was clean and the staff were lovely. I stayed in a 12 bed mixed dorm, with a very very slow to close squeaky door. With the usual people coming and going throughout the night, this made for a few really terrible nights of sleep. I mentioned it to reception who seemed like it was out of their hands to fix- pack earplugs for your stay here! Otherwise no issues at all, and very well located.

There is a supermarket around the hotel where you can buy breakfast or snacks, and there are restaurants around. The location is good and the rooms are clean, but there seems to be no parking. If you take the airline100 bus from the airport and get off at the city of Edinburgh, you can get there in about 20 minutes. All the way is more prosperous and not remote.

Absolutely a good location for quietness and quiet in the new city. Very close to the train station and the airport bus. If you bring large luggage, it is recommended that you live in the new city. It is very convenient. As long as you have a bed, you don’t need to wait until the afternoon. If you have big luggage, you need to take some effort to climb this red staircase. Others are perfect. You can cook in the kitchen. Basically, you have fruit, bread, milk, and tea. There is no limit in the hall. Your best meal, please consciously tidy and clean the girl I live in. The 6 rooms have curtains. The bedside can fill the shop. Small luggage can be placed directly in everyone's cabinet. If you are lucky, you can live on the bottom floor. Hahaha. It's a three-story bed, so the first floor is very low and I can hardly straighten the waist. I can end it. After all, the price is so favorable. Right, there is a great coffee bar and small restaurant downstairs. Everyone is seductive when I see the Apple store and turn in. This is the bar and the hotel

Because the flight was canceled, I had to return one day later than planned. It was my first time to experience a backpacker hotel, and it was really good. We arrived at ten o'clock, because the latest check-out from the hotel was 11 o'clock, and we had already booked a castle tour at 11 o'clock. It might have been past the 7 o'clock key collection time when we returned to the hotel after a day of fun, but the clerk was still very active in helping us find a way. Everything was taken care of very well, allowing us to spend the day happily without interruption. As a backpacker hotel, it is really good. The overall guest room is very comfortable and warm. We were given a triple room on the top floor with a double bed and a single bed. The elderly did not have to worry about climbing up and down. The shared bathroom on the floor is also very clean and tidy, and the roommates who share it also use it well. It is very convenient to have a sink in the room, which is very convenient for washing fruits, washing hands, brushing teeth and face. The room also has a TV and a small safe. The bedside table is equipped with a mirror, a chest of drawers and a cute closet. My small suggestion is that it would be better if there were more places to hang clothes, otherwise I think it is very good.

had a fantastic stay here! there were 10 of us who all booked out a dorm. was quiet, clean and good quality. there are two bathrooms and two toilets per dorm which i thought was very good. our room wasn’t ready for an extra half an hour so they gave us free drink tokens for the bar! the reason this doesn’t get 5 stars is because it was awfully hot in the room - even with the window open! there didn’t seem to be air con - we wondered even if the hostel had put the heating on? we didn’t try the breakfast. the hotel bar had decent food but long waits.

GGuest UserWe stayed at the Riccarton Inn for three nights in July as we were attending a wedding at the nearby Free Company. After originally booking a city centre hotel we decided to look at something a little closer and found The Riccarton which looked to be nearby, with nice rooms and at a good price. Before booking we contacted the venue via FaceBook to see if there were any room suggestions and we were told that rooms 1, 2 & 5 are double rooms but they suggested room 1 as the best pick out of the three if it was available…… it was, so we booked it. Getting to the venue was relatively easy, it was a 15 ish minute walk from Currie Hill train station although the majority was uphill so probably not the best route to take if you have reduced mobility. There is a bus stop just over the road from the venue and if you catch the 44 from the city centre it drops you right there (the bus stop right outside the venue, i.e. on the same side of the road, takes you back into the centre on the 44 bus. Buses are easy with TapTapCap so you can use your debit / credit card or device (always use the same card or device to make sure the cap applies). A single journey is £1.80 and it caps at £4.40 for a full days travel. We said that the next time we stay at the venue we’d definitely finish our journey on the bus instead of the train. Oh, the venue is also on the N44 route which is the night bus service, ideal if you go out for a few drinks and it saves on taxis. There are a few different local taxi services as well as Uber, the couple of times we used a taxi we did use Uber in the end as they were actually cheaper and we found them a little more reliable. Check in was really simple, we didn’t prepay but the cost of the room was charged to the card we booked with on the morning before we arrived. All we needed to do was pop a signature onto the booking confirmation at the bar and we were handed our keys, one for the main door to the venue (it gets locked at midnight so you can let yourself in) and one to the room. We didn’t pre-request breakfast but we decided to add it on for two of the mornings and paid for it at the bar…….. I would highly recommend the breakfast, at £8.95 per person it is most definitely worth it (more on that later). The room itself (room 1) was a decent size, it had a very comfortable bed, a built-in closet and plenty of drawer space. The en-suite bathroom had a good size bath with over bath power shower, toilet and wash basin… again all spotlessly clean. The towels were really fluffy and properly dried you instead of just moving the water around which is always a good plus. At night the room did get a little warm but as long as you don’t mind your window open and you leave the bathroom door and window open you do cool down a little. There are tea/coffee making facilities in the room and a hairdryer is also provided. The WiFi code is provided on a welcome card which we found in one of the drawers in the desk. As we arrived at aroun
GGuest UserThis is a good place for backpackers. We stayed here for a couple of nights in a 12 bed dormitory. The beds were good with ample space to keep our stuffs. Toilers were clean. The receptionists were friendly and approachable. The check-in time is 2 PM, so if you arrive early, you'll need to wait in the locker room and help yourself to some coffee. Or else you can keep your bags in a locker and roam around the city till you are ready to check-in. Early check-in is also available, but subject to availability of beds/rooms. Overall, quite good.

GGuest UserFabulous stay for my husband and I in a very clean annexe part of the hostel. Full working kitchen with table and chairs. Our double bedroom was very comfortable, clean, warm and well decorated with a tv. Shared bathroom (2) and separate toilet. The location is superb, just off the Royal Mile, but two things to bear in mind. Firstly there are quite a lot of steep stairs, the building is old with character and so single pane windows. The street below has cobbled stones with tall buildings each side - so great acoustics for hearing all noises and it’s a vibrant city so it’s rarely peaceful. It wasn’t a problem for us but earplugs essential for lighter sleepers I’d say. Great value for money and ideal for the nearby Christmas Matket and seeing the lights in town, at the castle and the superb trail of lights at Edinburgh Botanic Gardens. A short, albeit steep walk up from Waverley train station. Loved our stay here we managed to pack a lot into a short stay due to the location.

Castle Rock Hostel is a great hostel for the location and lounge spaces. It is right by Edinburgh Castle and on the Royal Mile and most things are walkable from the hostel. The bunks are comfortable, but you do share a bathroom with a lot of people as it's one communal bathroom per a floor. There are also no privacy curtains on the bunks, so it can be hard to sleep in the dormitories unless you're a really heavy sleeper. I really loved the complimentary tea and hot chocolate though as well as the cinema in the hostel! The laundry service was also affordable and convenient. The hostel also does a lot of weekly activities which are awesome!

GGuest UserBecause the travel plan changed, we booked a hostel at short notice. You know, it's not easy to book such a cheap bed in Edinburgh. The place is not difficult to find, but the stairs are small and it's difficult to move luggage. The toilet and bathroom are small, but they can be used. Breakfast is provided, and you can cook for yourself. It's very close to the station, and there are many shops nearby, including McDonald's.
I left my headphones there, so I asked the customer service to contact the hotel, and finally they were successfully sent to the next city we went to. In short, thank you very much to Ctrip's customer service, and the response and service of the hostel are also very good!
I have to say do ignore the neggy reviews. I really enjoyed my stay at this hostel and all the staff are super friendly. Please be kind and respectful to this lot - they’re such good bunch! And the hostel has a really nice chilled atmosphere, best hostel stay I’ve had so far and I’ve stayed in at least four in Edinburgh alone just sayin’. ~ Rose
