Seoul Station Guide: KTX, AREX, Subway, GTX-A and Travel Tips
Seoul Station is one of the main transport hubs in Seoul, connecting high-speed KTX trains, local rail services, Seoul Subway, AREX airport trains and GTX-A. Whether you are heading to Busan, travelling to Incheon Airport or exploring central Seoul, knowing the station layout can make transfers much easier.
Understanding the Seoul Station Map
Seoul Station is more than one train hall. Different train services use different parts and levels of the station, so check the signs carefully before heading to your platform.
KTX and Korail Area
The main Seoul Station building is where you can board KTX and other Korail trains.
Popular KTX routes from Seoul Station connect Seoul with major destinations including:
- Busan
- Daejeon
- Daegu
- Gyeongju

- Other cities served by Korail routes
Seoul Station is one of Korea's main railway hubs and the starting point of the Gyeongbu Line towards Busan.
🚆 Pro Tip: Reserve popular Korea train tickets early if you are travelling on weekends, Korean public holidays or during major festivals.
Seoul Subway Line 1
Line 1 connects Seoul Station with areas such as City Hall, Jongno, Dongdaemun and other parts of the Seoul metropolitan area.
Follow the dark blue Line 1 signs when transferring from the railway station.
Seoul Subway Line 4
Line 4 is useful for reaching popular areas including Myeongdong and Dongdaemun.
It is one of the easiest subway options if your hotel is around Myeongdong or central Seoul.
Gyeongui-Jungang Line
The Gyeongui-Jungang Line also serves Seoul Station, although its platforms are separate from some of the main subway areas.
Check the train destination carefully because not every Gyeongui-Jungang Line service follows the same operating pattern.
AREX Airport Railroad
AREX provides a direct rail connection between Seoul Station and Incheon International Airport.
There are two main types of AREX service:

The AREX Express takes about 43 minutes between Incheon Airport Terminal 1 and Seoul Station and around 51 minutes from Terminal 2.
✈️ Airport Tip: Leave extra time when transferring between AREX and KTX because the airport railway platforms are below the main station area.
GTX-A
GTX-A is now another rail option at Seoul Station. The northern section connects Seoul Station with the northwestern Seoul metropolitan area, including the direction of Unjeong Jungang.
The Unjeong Jungang to Seoul Station section opened in December 2024. Later GTX-A sections are being developed separately, so always check the latest operating route before travelling.
Seoul Station Exit Guide
Seoul Station has several exit systems because the KTX, subway and AREX areas are connected but managed separately.

How to Get to Seoul Station
From Incheon International Airport
The easiest rail option is AREX.
AREX Express Train
Take the non-stop AREX Express Train directly to Seoul Station.
- Terminal 1 to Seoul Station: about 43 minutes
- Terminal 2 to Seoul Station: about 51 minutes
- No transfer required
The Express Train is useful if Seoul Station is your final destination or if you are connecting to a KTX train.
AREX All-Stop Train
The All-Stop Train also travels to Seoul Station but stops at intermediate stations.
It can be more convenient if you are coming from:
- Gimpo International Airport
- Hongik University
- Digital Media City
- Gongdeok
From Myeongdong
Take Seoul Subway Line 4 directly to Seoul Station.
This is one of the easiest connections for travelers staying around Myeongdong.
From Hongik University
Take the AREX All-Stop Train directly from Hongik University Station to Seoul Station.
From Other Korean Cities
KTX and other Korail services connect Seoul Station with many cities across South Korea.
Popular connections include Busan, Daejeon, Daegu and several other major destinations.
How to Transfer at Seoul Station
Subway to KTX
After getting off Line 1 or Line 4, follow signs marked:
KTX / Korail / Seoul Station
Allow at least 10 to 15 minutes if you are unfamiliar with the station. Give yourself more time if you need to collect tickets or have large luggage.
KTX to AREX
Follow signs marked:
Airport Railroad / AREX / 공항철도
The AREX platforms are on lower levels of the station complex, so allow extra walking time.
AREX to Subway
After leaving the AREX area, follow the signs for:
- Line 1
- Line 4
Do not follow only the Seoul Station name because several rail services use the same station complex.
GTX-A Transfers
Follow the GTX-A signs inside the station. Because GTX-A uses its own station area, leave additional transfer time when connecting from KTX, AREX or the subway.
🚆 Transfer Tip: If you have a reserved KTX train, arriving at Seoul Station around 20 to 30 minutes before departure gives you more time to find your platform, buy food and manage your luggage.
Seoul Station City Airport Terminal
One of Seoul Station's most useful services for international travelers is the City Airport Terminal.
Eligible AREX Express Train passengers travelling from Incheon International Airport may be able to complete selected airport procedures before taking the train to the airport, including:
- Airline check-in
- Checked baggage drop
- Departure immigration procedures
AREX completed renovation work on the Seoul Station City Airport Terminal in 2026 to improve the check-in and waiting areas.
Only participating airlines and eligible flights can use the service. Airline participation, check-in deadlines and baggage conditions can change, so check the latest AREX information before your flight.
✈️ Airport Tip: Do not assume your airline is eligible for city check-in. Confirm your flight and airline before arriving at Seoul Station.
How to Buy Tickets at Seoul Station
KTX Tickets
KTX requires a separate train ticket.
You can:
- Reserve online before travelling
- Buy from a station ticket counter
- Use station ticket machines
- Book through Trip.com Korea trains
Booking early is recommended for popular departure times.
Seoul Subway
For normal subway trips, you can use:
- Tmoney card
- Compatible transportation cards
- Single-journey tickets
Using a rechargeable transportation card is usually easier if you plan to take several subway or bus trips.
AREX
The AREX Express Train uses its own ticket system, while normal transportation cards can be used for the All-Stop Train.
Check the latest fare before travelling because ticket prices and promotions can change.
Luggage Storage at Seoul Station
Luggage storage is available at Seoul Station.
Seoul's official T-Luggage service has a location on B1 near Exit 1 at Seoul Station. Storage prices depend on luggage size, day and storage time.
You can also find lockers and private luggage storage services around the station.
If you are travelling during a busy weekend or holiday, store your bags early because large luggage spaces can fill quickly.

Culture Station Seoul 284
The former Seoul Station building has been preserved as Culture Station Seoul 284, an arts and cultural space with exhibitions and events.
It is located beside the modern Seoul Station complex.
Seoullo 7017
Seoullo 7017 is an elevated pedestrian walkway close to Seoul Station.
It is a convenient place for a short walk before or after your train and connects the station area with nearby neighborhoods.
Namdaemun Market
Namdaemun Market is within walking distance of Seoul Station.
It is a good place to look for Korean food, snacks, clothing and souvenirs if you have extra time before your train.
Shopping at Seoul Station

Let's start with the pros:
1. The hotel's location is excellent, right behind Shinsegae Department Store, and only about a 5-minute walk to Myeongdong shopping street.
2. There's a subway station downstairs, and the surrounding area offers plenty of dining, entertainment, and shopping options.
3. The hotel's style leans more towards medieval Baroque. If you're not particularly fond of this somewhat quirky decor, I'd suggest reconsidering. However, for a unique travel experience, this hotel is definitely a plus.
4. There are three Michelin-starred restaurants right on the hotel's upper floors, making it very convenient for food lovers.
Cons:

The room was clean and tidy, and it was cleaned twice a day with water replenished promptly. Most importantly, it's very close to Lotte Duty Free, so after shopping, you can drop off your purchases at the hotel and continue shopping. It's also very near Myeongdong Food Street, making shopping incredibly convenient. The hotel even gave chocolates and a small dress to our child during check-in. I stayed in a triple room on the 15th floor. Here's my feedback:
1. The room had excellent soundproofing, making for a quiet stay.
2. There's a direct underground passage from the lobby to Subway Line 2, which goes through Lotte Department Store.
3. There's no direct bus from Gimpo Airport to the hotel, but there is one from Incheon Airport.
4. The hotel description incorrectly states that Evian water is provided. I specifically asked for the English version at the front desk, and it only mentioned bottled water. I'm not sure why the Chinese page specifically highlights Evian when it's not actually available.
5. The closet door in the room was broken and wasn't repaired promptly after reporting it. Because the left side of the closet door was collapsed, the light inside the closet stayed on all night, which isn't ideal for guests who need darkness to sleep.
6. Complimentary toothbrushes are not provided in the room. They are available in the mini-bar for 2,000 KRW each. You can use Lotte Points to redeem them when checking out, though I'm not sure of the exact point value.

The location was perfect, directly connected to Yongsan Station Exit 3, and the views from the high floor were excellent.
We were a party of three, including two children, but only had two sets of slippers and towels. We called and they brought more, but it would have been better if they were there from the start.
I felt like the futon was damp, and the kettle spout had mold? Or rust? But there was a sponge and detergent available.

I recently stayed at Grand Mercure Ambassador Hotel and Residences Seoul Yongsan and had a wonderful experience overall. The hotel offers spacious, well-appointed rooms, excellent facilities, and a convenient location connected to Yongsan Station, making it an ideal choice for visitors to Seoul.
What truly made my stay memorable was the outstanding service provided by Amy from the Front Desk. As we were preparing to leave, we needed a vacuum cleaner to remove air from our airtight packing bags. Although this was an unusual request, Amy went above and beyond to assist us. She made an exceptional effort to locate a vacuum cleaner, checking with various departments until she was able to find one for us. Her dedication, resourcefulness, and willingness to help exceeded our expectations and reflected the hotel's strong commitment to guest satisfaction.
The rest of the staff were also professional, friendly, and attentive throughout our stay. The room was clean, spacious, and comfortable, and the hotel's facilities were well maintained.
The only downside during our stay was the pillows, which we found to be a little too soft and flat for our preference. Some guests may enjoy them, but we would have appreciated firmer pillow options for better sleeping comfort.

I booked this room for 2300 a night with a friend. I saw some bloggers on Xiaohongshu saying the rooms were small and the ceilings were low, but honestly, it wasn't too bad (maybe because it was my first time staying at a 5-star hotel, so I don't know how good other 5-stars are). I'd recommend booking an afternoon tea on Naver. After checking in, change and enjoy afternoon tea. In the evening, the lobby has a total old money vibe, perfect for photos. If you're only staying one night, I highly recommend it, especially if you can get a good price!
We originally booked a room with a regular view, but the front desk offered us a Namsan view room, though it was next to the elevator. They asked if we were okay with it, and we immediately said yes. The hotel's location is very close to Myeongdong shopping district. Namdaemun Market is right across the street, and there are many restaurants in the alleys behind it, including a 24-hour eatery. There's also a convenience store right outside.
The hotel service was very welcoming. When we checked in, we had booked two rooms, one with a king bed and one with two twin beds. The front desk staff kindly searched for a long time to try and get us on the same floor. The rooms were cleaned very well, and housekeeping tidied up and emptied the trash meticulously every day.

Although the room rates were quite high during the summer holiday, choosing this hotel was absolutely worth it for its location. It's incredibly convenient, literally a two-minute walk to Lotte Department Store. When you're tired from shopping, you can just pop back to the hotel for a rest before heading out again. Myeongdong is right across the street; you just need to use the underpass. There's also the popular MGC coffee shop nearby. The bus stop right outside Lotte makes it easy to get anywhere, and the subway station is also very close. We even took a taxi to Gyeongbokgung Palace and N Seoul Tower when we first arrived because we weren't familiar with the area, but they're actually not far at all. The hotel staff were friendly and always greeted us, and you need a key card to use the elevator. Our room had a street view. The hotel's location is quite convenient, just a 5-minute walk to both Subway Lines 1 and 2.
What's most convenient is that the airport shuttle bus drops you off right near the hotel! It's only a 2-minute walk to Lotte Duty Free and a 5-minute walk to Myeongdong Shopping Street. There's also a fantastic fried chicken place nearby called KyoChon Fried Chicken that I highly recommend.
Facilities: The room was indeed small, only enough space to open one suitcase. The bathroom doesn't provide toothbrushes, so you need to bring your own. You have to shower while standing in the bathtub, and the shower amenities are just average; the shampoo and body wash are a 2-in-1 product. I'd recommend bringing your own. Toiletries weren't refilled promptly, I'm not sure if it's for environmental reasons.
Two annoyances: There's a motion-sensor light in the hallway ceiling outside the room, and it would turn on every time I moved at night, which really disrupted my sleep. Also, even though I didn't turn on the air conditioning during my stay, there was an occasional noise coming from the vent, which caused me to not sleep well on the first night. It's just a few minutes' walk to Euljiro 1(il)-ga Subway Station, which is on Line 2 and connects to Line 4 for Myeongdong Station and Seoul Station. The airport limousine bus stop is also close by, located right in front of the Ibis Hotel.
The room was clean, tidy, and well-lit, with floor-to-ceiling windows offering city views. The bedding was comfortable. The front desk staff were friendly, and there was even an uncle who spoke Chinese, making communication very smooth. The hotel is well-equipped with amenities like a laundry room and a gym.

The bathroom got a bit flooded with 3 girls using it at once… but as soon as we had feedback we to the hotel, they immediately came to clean up - fixed the problem by opening the flap on the drain LOL
We also had trouble getting our way back to the airport at night but the receptionist was extremely helpful to let us know where the nearest bus was, even offered to guide us there. Once he found out that the last bus had departed, he even helped us to problem solve by ordering a taxi for us😭 so thankful amazing service!
Location was 10/10, could drop our bags after shopping, close and walking distance to the Main Street but still gives you some quiet time. so it’s not that noisy. Right opposite 7/11 as well!

I was a bit surprised to be given a 3rd-floor room when I requested a higher floor, but the Namsan Tower view was absolutely stunning. What's unique here is the bathtub in the middle of the room, which I found quite interesting. I didn't actually use the tub, but it would have been perfect for bathing while enjoying the view. However, there were no curtains for the bathroom door or windows, which was a bit inconvenient. Also, the slippers weren't disposable, which felt a bit unsanitary. The hotel is conveniently located near three subway exits, with the one featuring an elevator directly across the street. Nearby, you'll find the Shinsegae Duty-Free Shop and Olive Young. The front desk staff are fluent in English, which made me realize my own English speaking skills need work! I was unsure how to order food delivery and asked the kind lady at the information desk for help on my phone. She even recommended some delicious fried chicken, and I happily enjoyed it in my room while watching TV. Although the room doesn't have a microwave, the hotel restaurant on the 2nd floor can help heat things up – the service was excellent. The hotel also offers a free pool and gym, but we didn't have time to use them during our trip. The only downside was the slightly higher price during the summer holidays; otherwise, everything was perfect. The bedding was great. We were two people and didn't have a twin room initially, but the front desk noticed and immediately asked if we wanted to switch, then arranged a twin room for us. We had a pleasant stay at Fraser Namdaemun Apartment. The room is comfortable and quiet. Overall it was a good experience, though some special requests I sent via email in advance were not fully arranged. Fortunately, this did not greatly affect our trip.
The location is fantastic! All major tourist spots are within walking distance, and there are plenty of dining options nearby. I especially want to give high praise to the cleaning staff, who provided wonderful service.

The room itself was clean and perfectly fine. Due to my itinerary this time, I walked from Seoul Station, which took about 15 minutes. There's also a subway station within walking distance of the hotel, and a bus stop nearby, which I found convenient. I had actually noticed this hotel before. I used to stay at a hotel nearby and even came into this one specifically to take photos with the super-sized Brown bear in the lobby. So, before this trip, I made sure to look it up, and to my surprise, I was lucky enough to book a themed room! They said it would be a random rabbit or bear theme, but I was so fortunate to get my favorite Brown bear themed room.
Check-in was at 3 PM, but I arrived at 2:20 PM and they actually let me check in early. The hotel staff were all very enthusiastic and always greeted me politely when I entered or left.
The themed rooms are all on the 14th floor, and as soon as you step out of the elevator, you're greeted by adorable plushies. The room itself was incredibly cute, like stepping into a fairy tale and becoming good friends with Brown bear. The giant Brown bear on the sofa was super cute, and I also loved the blue sofa, though it showed some signs of age.
The room facilities were all great, especially the TV channels – there were so many! For someone like me who loves to stay in the hotel, this was fantastic. There were even three or four channels with Chinese dramas, and even more movies and Korean dramas.
The bathroom facilities were also good. I really liked that the bathtub and shower were separate; I don't like showering while standing in a tub. The only downside was that the exhaust fan was a bit noisy.
I also have to praise their housekeeping speed. At other hotels, sometimes you put up the 'clean my room' sign and it doesn't get cleaned for hours, but here, it was always done very quickly and was spotlessly clean. I was particularly satisfied with this.FromIDR 2,932,615

We stayed at Aloft by Marriott Myeongdong for 5 nights. The location is unbeatable - convenient 5 mins walk to the main Myeongdong shopping and eating area. Around 7 minutes walk to Lotte Department Store and Shinsegae. The staff at front desk are all very courteous and nice. The rooms are clean and tidy. One thing though they will not touch our personal things in the bathroom, such as my hair curler was laying on top of some dirty towels and upon returning to my room, my curler and the dirty towels were left at the same spot. But their service is excellent - the first night we stayed the air-con was too hot and changing the thermostat did not work. So we called reception and stated the issue. They promptly sent a technician up to help fix the air-con, which afterwards worked fine, and the rooms were cool and we all slept very well. There's not a whole lot of facilities except a small gym though. Overall, a very nice stay at this hotel where the staff are attentive and nice, and they all speak fluent English. The inquiry and luggage storage are on the first floor, while the check-in lobby is on the third floor. There's also a dermatology clinic in the same building, using the same elevator. A CU convenience store is downstairs, so the location is pretty good. Upon checking in, I was pleased that they accommodated my request for a high-floor room with a view 👍🏻. The room facilities were comprehensive, including a soaking tub and a vanity table, along with a wardrobe and luggage rack. The shower space was also decent! Because I only booked for two nights and hadn't reserved a room for subsequent nights, I had to change accommodations. So, I stored my luggage at the hotel. When I returned to pick it up in the evening, I didn't see anyone on the first floor, so I messaged the hotel via WeChat (the staff always replied instantly). Someone immediately came to the first floor to help me retrieve my luggage. After getting my bags, I was fumbling with arranging a taxi. SEHA, noticing I was a foreigner, used a translation app to ask if I needed help. She assisted me in calling a taxi, confirmed the location of my new hotel, and even saw me off to the car. Let's start with the pros:
1. The hotel's location is excellent, right behind Shinsegae Department Store, and only about a 5-minute walk to Myeongdong shopping street.
2. There's a subway station downstairs, and the surrounding area offers plenty of dining, entertainment, and shopping options.
3. The hotel's style leans more towards medieval Baroque. If you're not particularly fond of this somewhat quirky decor, I'd suggest reconsidering. However, for a unique travel experience, this hotel is definitely a plus.
4. There are three Michelin-starred restaurants right on the hotel's upper floors, making it very convenient for food lovers.
Cons:
No significant issues with the hotel.

I chose this hotel again, and it felt like rooms were a bit tight during the summer. This time I booked a king-size room; the bed was quite large, but the room itself was a bit small. In hindsight, the first room I stayed in was the most spacious, even though it didn't have a view.
Aside from the slightly smaller room, everything else was great. The view outside the window was nice too. I'm not sure if it's because I stay here often, but this time they even gave me complimentary chocolates, which was a lovely surprise.
I was very satisfied with the softness of the bed; it was super comfortable to sleep on. The air conditioning in the room was also incredibly powerful; sleeping under the duvet was so refreshing. The room temperature was perfect, to the point where I always had the illusion that it wasn't hot outside, even though Seoul has been scorching recently.

We were a party of three, including two children, but only had two sets of slippers and towels. We called and they brought more, but it would have been better if they were there from the start.

The room looks smaller than it looks in the pictures and had nowhere for us to store our clothes. We needed to live out of our suitcases which is fine but took up all the little space the room offered. The toilet has a milky glass door but is so tiny that your face will almost touch the door, which cannot be locked btw. The shower room was really spacious but good luck putting your towel or clothes there without them getting wet. There was nowhere to hang them either.. We also only got one body towel.
The bed is really soft and the pillows were great but my pillow cover had multiple stains…
Surely I could’ve asked for a refresh but for that I would need to leave my room card behind. That was a risk I was not willing to take. If you want your room to be cleaned you could leave the room card at the reception. However if you come back after 10 pm you will need to use a machine to get it back which we did not want to risk after seeing people struggle to get theirs back.
At least the ventilators and the AC work great. The window did not have a city view like promised, instead we got a to see a metal wall 😍 Oh the window is also tiny.
But we got the hotel at a great price and the location is exceptional with everything one might need in the surrounding area. Be it convenience stores, restaurants, cafes, shops bus stops or subway stations. The staff was always friendly as well. I saw some bloggers on Xiaohongshu saying the rooms were small and the ceilings were low, but honestly, it wasn't too bad (maybe because it was my first time staying at a 5-star hotel, so I don't know how good other 5-stars are). I'd recommend booking an afternoon tea on Naver. After checking in, change and enjoy afternoon tea. In the evening, the lobby has a total old money vibe, perfect for photos. If you're only staying one night, I highly recommend it, especially if you can get a good price!
We originally booked a room with a regular view, but the front desk offered us a Namsan view room, though it was next to the elevator. They asked if we were okay with it, and we immediately said yes. The room fit three small beds nicely and had a Japanese-style feel, plus a bathtub. While the room was a bit small, it was well-equipped. The soundproofing wasn't great, though, as I could hear noisy kids from the next room at night.
The breakfast was excellent, delicious and plentiful.
The 11th-floor lobby had plenty of luggage lockers, which was very handy.

The Gyeongbokgung Palace and Hanok village is an approximate 10-minute bus ride or a 30-45 minute walk away. The Seoul Tower and Namsan Mountain Park is also an approximate 10-minute bus ride away.
The room and bathroom was spacious. The breakfast buffet had a nice variety of Korean options. There was also sausages, eggs, ham, breads and cereals to choose from. The staff we encountered spoke English and were extremely professional, courteous, helpful and friendly.

This hostel is located in Myeongdong, just a short walk (literally around the corner) from Myeongdong Subway Station Exit 4, making its location super convenient and excellent! Due to its prime location, Myeongdong Guesthouse is incredibly popular and often fully booked, so I recommend booking in advance, which might also get you a better price.
Most hostels in Korea operate with self check-in, and it can be hard to reach staff after hours. The front desk operating hours are from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM. If you're checking in outside of these hours, it's a good idea to communicate with the property beforehand.
This is an all-female hostel with secure keycard access at the entrance, which definitely made me feel safe as a solo female traveler. However, space is at a premium in Seoul, so the rooms, bathrooms, and toilets are all quite small and can feel cramped. Those with a lot of luggage should be aware of this. My room also had no window, making it a bit stuffy.
