Osaka Metro Map: Lines, Stations and Travel Guide

Osaka Metro Map

Looking at the Osaka Metro map for the first time, I honestly felt a bit lost. So many colorful lines going in different directions, and the station names were not easy to remember at all. If it’s your first time in Osaka, that feeling is totally normal. But after using it once or twice, it starts to make sense. You’ll realize it’s actually simple to follow, and getting around the city becomes smooth and stress free.

❤️Pro Tip: When planning your visit, consider booking flights from Manila to Osaka and Osaka hotels in advance to secure the best rates.

Overview of Osaka Metro Lines

Osaka Metro Route Map

Sources: subway.osakametro.co.jp

The Osaka Metro system is the main way to get around the city, and yes, the map can look confusing at first. I remember opening it and thinking everything looks the same. But after using it for a day, it actually becomes very easy to follow. Each line has a color and a letter, so even if you cannot read Japanese, you can still move around without stress.

Midosuji Line (Red / M)

Shin-Osaka ↔ Nakamozu

Shin-Osaka, Umeda, Shinsaibashi, Namba

The Midosuji Line is the one you will use the most. It connects the main areas like Shin-Osaka, Umeda, Shinsaibashi, and Namba, so it’s very convenient for first-time visitors.

Extra things that help a lot:

  • Every station has a letter and number like M20 or C18
  • Trains come every few minutes, so you don’t need to rush
  • Stations are big, always check the exit number before going out
  • Use IC cards like ICOCA, Suica, or Pasmo for easy tap in and out

It is a newly renovated hotel with long history. There are shops, restaurants and 7-11 within the hotel. There are science museum, art museum in walking distance and convention centre next door. There is a train station just under the hotel but it is a remote line and hardly linked to the main lines. Good thing is that there are free shuttle buses every 10-15 mins to Osaka JR station for about 15 mins ride.

This hotel is located in Yodoyabashi, just one subway stop away from Umeda, making it incredibly convenient. The hotel facilities are excellent. The lobby on the 15th floor offers expansive views, almost like a sky garden. The room itself is a bit small, and there isn't enough space to fully open a suitcase.

The hotel's location is fantastic! The airport shuttle drops you right at the entrance, making it perfect for your last stop before heading home, so you don't have to haul your luggage on the subway. The room was spacious enough to open two suitcases, which is a real rarity in Japan. Breakfast was also plentiful. Overall, I'm very satisfied and would choose to stay here again.

This hotel exceeded all my expectations. The atmosphere was elegant and relaxing, making it a perfect place to unwind. The rooms were spotlessly clean, beautifully designed, and very comfortable. The staff were exceptionally friendly and professional, always ready to help with a warm smile. The location is also very convenient, with easy access to transportation and nearby attractions. Overall, it was a wonderful stay and truly great value for money. I would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely return again.

What a surprise that Hotel Nikko Osaka is kind of 5 stars services to us . A welcome warmth anniversary chocolate gift box on the table when we walk into the room. The room might look tiny but not really I can tell that. They have smart design on the long couch sofa with ample space below , thus we can open up luggage and put under the couch sofa . So smart and Neat design! Overall service is 5 stars like . They have plenty of counter with fluent English speaking staffs . No worries for foreign who can't speak Japanese. Highly Recommend to purchase room with breakfast along . They have provide both Japanese style and Western mix Japanese style buffet at different level . We have tried both restaurants for the different breakfast days . Overall Experience is superb ! Last but not least , we managed to purchase way bus ticket from Hotel to Osaka Kansai Terminal Airport that limo bus services by the Hotel Nikko !!! So convenience for us once again !!!

Coming from Tokyo, I thought I had the Shinkansen system down, but Osaka Station definitely taught me a lesson! I got lost as soon as I exited the subway, and we only found the hotel because my husband could read the map. I'd highly recommend taking a taxi if it's your first time in Umeda and heading to this hotel! However, once we got our bearings, we realized the hotel's location is absolutely fantastic! Osaka Station is just 200 meters across the street! Hankyu Station and Umeda Station are also nearby. Within 500 meters, you'll find the Umeda shopping district: Hankyu Department Store, LUCUA, LUCUA 1100, Daimaru Department Store, Yodobashi Camera, and Hankyu Sanbangai are all in the vicinity – a shopper's paradise! The best part is the time-saving aspect; if you buy too much to carry, you can just drop it off at the hotel and head out again – plenty of time, haha. Most importantly, it's also quite close to Universal Studios Japan. A 17-minute subway ride from Osaka Station makes it incredibly convenient. **Service:** While I didn't find any staff who spoke Chinese, they were very friendly towards Chinese guests. My basic English was sufficient. You'll need to pay the deposit with cash or a Visa card. **Accommodation:** Since the price is a bit higher than the Shinsaibashi area, the rooms are also larger. This is the biggest hotel room I've stayed in Japan, and the accommodation was excellent and very clean. The only downside was that the hairdryer had very weak airflow and was loud, making it a struggle to dry my hair.

I chose this hotel for a night view before leaving Osaka. It was a bit hard to find; turns out there's a direct elevator on the Kintetsu side of the pedestrian overpass, which took me a while to locate. The area is quite convenient. I arrived too late to do any shopping, but I had a very satisfying dinner on the 12th floor (or something like that) of Kintetsu Department Store, with last orders at 9 PM. The main reason for staying here was for the next day's Haruka train to the airport, which is the fastest option. I didn't get to experience much else at the hotel; I had planned to explore the mall but ran out of time, and left early in the morning, which was a bit of a shame. Two nights would have been better. The room was very spacious and not stuffy, as expected from a Marriott; it definitely felt different from a typical Japanese hotel.

Absolutely loved this hotel! All the staff were so enthusiastic and genuinely warm. The room was the largest we had during our entire trip to Japan. While the furnishings felt a bit dated, they were exceptionally well-maintained, and there wasn't that old room smell; it was very clean. The breakfast was generally good. The hotel offers a free shuttle to Sapporo Station, the airport limousine bus stop is right outside, and there's a Lawson convenience store just across the street. This will definitely be our top choice for our next visit to Sapporo.

Osaka Station/Umeda/Yodoyabashi/Hommachi Osaka|0.37km from city center
Our first stop in Japan was Osaka, and we stayed at the Keihan Hotel Yodoyabashi – it was excellent and highly recommended! From Kansai Airport, we took the Nankai Rapid Express to Namba. After exiting the station, we found the Midosuji Line and took it one stop towards Minoh to Yodoyabashi. From there, we looked for Exit 18 of the Keihan Line, went up to ground level, spotted a 7-Eleven, and the hotel was right there. This area has a lot of office buildings, so it was quite quiet. The front desk staff guided us through the self check-in process. We then picked up the disposable amenities we needed, such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, facial cleanser, and lotion. They also provided a small bottle of drinking water every day. To get to our floor, we had to swipe our card in the elevator. The room, although not huge, had all the necessary facilities! It’s winter now, and the room had heating with adjustable temperature. There’s a mini-fridge, so you can buy some cold drinks. The bedding was comfortable, and I slept soundly at night! The shower and toilet are combined. The toilet is a smart one with a heated seat, so it’s not cold when you use it. There’s also a bathtub for soaking. There’s a laundry room with washing and drying machines on the first floor, but you might have to wait during peak hours. On my second day, I went for a run at Osaka Castle Park. It was quite pleasant running and enjoying the scenery. The hotel offers a luggage forwarding service. On our fourth night, we brought our suitcases to the front desk to send them to our hotel in Kyoto. The staff member helped us fill out the forms, and we just handed our luggage over to her. This made our travels much lighter the next day. We stayed here for four nights and it was very comfortable. You can take the Midosuji Line to Umeda to explore the shopping malls around Osaka Station and Umeda Station, or take it to Namba Station to visit Shinsaibashi and Dotonbori together. The hotel service was excellent, the stay was comfortable, and the cleanliness was good. It was great!

Overall, this hotel performs well and is a solid choice for business accommodation. In terms of facilities, the rooms are on the more compact side for a business hotel, and the air conditioning only offers fan speed adjustment. However, all equipment is functioning properly and meets basic usage needs. Hygiene is well-maintained, with no noticeable issues found. The surrounding area is very convenient, just a few steps from Higobashi subway station, making travel incredibly easy. Additionally, a Daikoku Drugstore is directly accessible from the hotel's ground floor, which is great for shopping. Service was satisfactory; the front desk staff were professional and courteous, always providing service with a smile and a friendly attitude. Overall, this hotel offers good value for money and is highly recommended.

Osaka Station/Umeda/Yodoyabashi/Hommachi Osaka|1.09km from city center
Osaka was the final stop on our Japan trip. 1. The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of bustling Shinsaibashi. There's a subway station just a few steps away, making it very convenient to get to Universal Studios. 2. The front desk staff were very friendly and provided service with a smile. They carefully verified our check-in information, which was great, and also offered free luggage storage! 3. The hotel has a small self-service beverage area, but they didn't offer machine-dispensed drinks, only pre-made options like fruit teas and coffee. The taste was generally mediocre, and some were a bit too sweet. 4. The washing and drying facilities in the laundry room are split across two different floors, with two sets of machines on each. However, this wasn't quite enough when it got busy. Also, due to heavy usage, the cleanliness wasn't always promptly addressed, and there was often a lot of lint and residue inside the washing machines; I'd recommend wiping them down thoroughly before use. Paper cups for the ice machine weren't always replenished on time, sometimes requiring a trip to the front desk. Furthermore, the laundry room itself is quite small. It also houses a microwave and the ice machine, and it gets very crowded with more than two people trying to use the facilities simultaneously. I'd suggest opening the main dining area in the evenings for guests to relax or heat food, instead of cramming everything into one small space. 5. The room was quite spacious. With three comfortable beds for three people, we all slept wonderfully!

The best thing about this hotel is its location. It's just a five-minute walk from the central exit of Osaka Station, which is perfect when you're traveling solo with a child. Another great perk is that the hotel allows you to store luggage overnight (I only confirmed for one night, didn't ask about multiple nights). For my trip to Tottori, I stayed here the first night, in Tottori the second night, and then back here for the third night. It was incredibly convenient to only bring a backpack to Tottori, especially with a little one! Oh, and there's a Nintendo flagship store on the 13th floor, and the hotel has signs right outside the station exit. They also gave me a discount coupon for food.

The best part is that it's literally just across the road from the subway exit, maybe a hundred meters. We had two large and two small suitcases, and getting from the station across the street to the hotel was incredibly smooth. Room size is fairly spacious for solo travelers, but opt for beds for two persons or couples. The hotel does not have laundry facilities though the nearest laundromat is about 6-blocks away. We stayed on the 45th floor, and the view, as you can see in pictures 2 and 3, was great. **Facilities:** As long as there's a bathtub, I'm happy. 🤭 **Cleanliness:** At least the room I stayed in was quite good. 👏 **Location:** It's quite close to the city center, right next to an elevated highway, but the soundproofing is incredibly good; I couldn't hear any traffic noise. 👍👍👍 Across the street, there's a FamilyMart, and both JR and subway stations are nearby, which is very convenient. 🙃🙃🙃 **Service:** If you need anything, you can just call the front desk by dialing 88. 😘😘😘 I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Thanks, ART Hotel.

Accommodation: The room size was decent, with enough space to open large suitcases. The room had a window, and the soundproofing was acceptable. Transportation: Transportation was incredibly convenient. It's just a 2-minute walk to Nihonbashi subway station, 5 minutes to Kuromon Market, and 5 minutes to Dotonbori/Shinsaibashi. Dining: They offered complimentary ramen at 9:30 PM. Free popsicles were available by the entrance to the public bath, and complimentary Yakult was provided in the morning. We also opted for the hotel's buffet breakfast, which cost 2500 JPY for adults and 1200 JPY for children, and we found it pretty good. Perhaps because there are many Korean guests, the kimchi at breakfast was surprisingly delicious! Onsen (Hot Spring): There's no open-air bath, and the indoor communal bath wasn't as spacious as others we've visited in Kumamoto or Kanazawa. There were also no manga books or similar amenities. Overall, it was quite average.

An excellent hotel with a convenient location. The twin room was spacious, and the bathroom featured a separate shower and toilet area. Guests are asked to place trash and used towels outside their door daily for collection. Every morning, the hotel provides Yakult. In the evenings, after enjoying the hot spring, guests can relax in massage chairs and read manga, along with complimentary ice cream. After 9:30 PM, you can head to the first floor for a bowl of soy sauce ramen and free coffee and cola. I enjoyed the hotel's hot spring daily, and even the showers in the room were clean. As our final hotel in Osaka, the room was adequately spacious; even after all our shopping, there was still plenty of room to open our suitcases. I would definitely choose this hotel again for my next visit.

Considering Japanese standards, the room size was quite good. We could comfortably open both a 28-inch and a 20-inch suitcase after shifting the table and chairs. The room was clean, and the complimentary toiletries were nice. While the towels were thinner than what we're used to in Chinese hotels, they were perfectly sufficient and spotless. The hotel's location is undoubtedly its biggest asset; getting to Universal Studios Japan and Umeda was both fast and incredibly convenient. There are plenty of dining options and convenience stores right downstairs, plus a supermarket not too far away. Highly recommended!

The hotel location was fantastic, it is conveniently located just right after you step out of the escalator exit 24 right at the doorstep. Though the service crew not really able to speak English, but they use Google translate to communicate. Amenities was great as they provide pyjamas, extra pillow and toiletries at the reception area for guest to pickup, there is welcome drinks too and coffee available at lobby. Great place to stay indeed!

Everything about this hotel is brilliant. Although breakfast is not included, it can be purchased and is very reasonably priced. Quite close to English breakfast except no toast. There is French bread which is sweet. Plenty of fruit also. Unlimited tea, coffee and hot chocolate all day. The rooms are spotless and the whole hotel is like a new build. (Maybe it is) There is entertainment most nights in the lounge except when there is a DJ, which is not really entertainment. No mixing or dance. No lights either and no communication with the audience. (Which is very small). The hotel is above Kitahama station which is handy, if you can work out the rail and subway system. The staff are very helpful and friendly. We extended our stay three times which says a lot. You won’t be disappointed staying here.

The room was incredibly spacious, easily accommodating two large suitcases fully open. The location is excellent, making it very convenient to get around and find places to eat. The biggest pleasant surprise was the bathroom; not only did it have a separate wet and dry area, but it also featured a large bathtub perfect for a relaxing soak. The hotel service was outstanding as well, with a warm, attentive, and highly responsive front desk. It was a very satisfying stay overall.

The hotel is tucked away in a quiet spot, yet it's just a short walk to Nakanoshima Park and a straight 500-meter shot to the Umeda commercial district. The room is spacious, and the bar counter by the entrance is very practical for making coffee or tea. The bedding is incredibly comfortable. I particularly enjoyed the lounge area in the lobby; it has a fireplace in the evenings, and sitting by it to read was very peaceful. On the second floor, there's a laundry room and a gym with professional equipment. The staff are friendly and provide excellent service; their advice is always very knowledgeable. Plus, there's a free coffee machine in the lobby.

I absolutely love the Imperial Hotel Osaka! It's so close to Umeda, yet incredibly peaceful with beautiful views. From my window, I could see the Okawa River, amphibious tour buses (or cars!), and the pier. Taking a walk by the river and clearing my mind was incredibly therapeutic. I heard the hotel is almost fully booked for cherry blossom season, and I can only imagine how stunning it must be then! Speaking of the hotel, it truly lives up to its reputation as an established brand. The service is impeccable. There are seven restaurants within the hotel, each with its own unique charm. This time, I tried the Jasmine Chinese restaurant and the Western bar. The Chinese restaurant served some of the most authentic Chinese food I've had in Japan, though I was disappointed not to try the recommended lobster – it was sold out that day. The Western bar, however, was absolutely delicious, fairly priced, and the service was excellent. The hotel makes you feel cared for at all times, without ever being intrusive. The staff are incredibly discreet and attentive.

First-timers should definitely check out Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book) for tips, as the route can be a bit confusing. This hotel is very strict about their 3 PM check-in time, so even if there are empty rooms, you might not be able to check in early. The room conditions are pretty good overall, and you pick up toiletries like Sekkisei from the lobby. The public bath isn't very big, with only one indoor option, but there are free massage chairs available. The most convenient thing is that the hotel is only a 4-minute walk from the airport shuttle bus stop, and it's the first stop, so you're guaranteed a seat.

After a long search, I finally settled on The Westin, an established hotel that was renovated last year. Location: It's a 6-7 minute walk from Osaka Station, which is both convenient and peaceful, tucked away from the hustle and bustle. Cleanliness: There's really nothing to complain about when it comes to cleanliness in Japanese hotels. Facilities: The room was spacious enough, which was my favorite part. However, despite the renovation, the showerhead, shower stall size, and sink still left something to be desired; you could definitely feel its age. Service: This is a classic five-star hotel. They even delivered an English newspaper to my door in the morning. The room was cleaned impeccably every day, meeting Westin's standards. However, the concierge staff at the entrance had inconsistent attitudes – I encountered some who were quite grumpy, and others who were incredibly enthusiastic.

I've always loved the style of W Hotels, and choosing the W Osaka this time was definitely the right decision. **Facilities:** The facilities are comprehensive, truly befitting a five-star hotel. The breakfast was also delicious, and the gym, swimming pool, and other amenities were all fully equipped. **Cleanliness:** Spotless, no complaints there. **Environment:** The 'nightclub' vibe of the environment is fantastic! There are also many great places to eat nearby. I highly recommend the Blue Bottle Coffee downstairs. It's also very close to Shinsaibashi and Namba, basically within walking distance. The subway is convenient too, and Daimaru is just across the street diagonally, making shopping very easy. **Service:** Everyone was very enthusiastic, and most staff offered Chinese language service. English communication was also not an issue. I will definitely choose W Hotels in other locations in the future.

The hotel location is great and easy to walk around exploring right in the middle of the city and you will find this gem ramen store open 24/7! The only disappointment was with the butler service or more the non existent butler service. For the price we are paying, I expected much much more from St Regis as I have been accustomed to at other St Regis Hotels. The hotel is beginning to show its age and hence the cleanliness part is coming into question when our rooms were being cleaned, I mean I am again nit picking here but it isn’t up to St Regis usual standards. The gym room is adequate but there isn’t a pool in a 5 star hotel 🙃.

I accidentally booked 2 adults but forgot to add my boy 13yrs, but they can’t change anything, just push the responsibility to the agent. I have to booked additional hotel room for my son! I booked 1 month early and paid a big dollar for it, but they reduced further 20% few days later without notifying me or my agent. When i found out, they said sorry but nothing they can do. The will simply punish if you booked early. It’s not encouraging, not impressed at all. I specifically told them to give me a higher level when i came on the day earlier than I check out, they said yes, and just ignored. Worst 5 star hotel I ever experienced in Japan.

The hotel is conveniently located between JR Osaka Station and Umeda subway stations, about a 10–12 minute walk, and can be easily accessed via elevated walkways. Shinsaibashi shopping district is also just a few blocks away. They offer 24-hour hot water, coffee, drinks, and a microwave for heating food, which is great. Free luggage storage is also available. The rooms and floors have been renovated, and they are indeed much cleaner and tidier. However, the downside is that none of the doors have locks; instead, you get a wooden sign to hang on the doorknob. This can lead to people accidentally trying to open the wrong door. It's a hassle having to lock my luggage every day or send it downstairs for storage. The wardrobes and desks in the room have been removed. While I can manage without a wardrobe, not having a desk is really inconvenient. The air conditioning in the hallway on my floor wasn't turned on, even though it was below zero degrees. Each room only had a small heater, which was very loud and noisy, making it impossible to keep on all night. Almost every time I stay on the women-only floor, there are men staying on it, and this time, someone even tried to open the wrong door. I was also asked to pay an extra 500 yen for the specific room I requested at the front desk, which has never happened before. Overall, my experience this time was pretty mediocre. I also have to complain about the Wi-Fi; it only works in the lobby. I've never been able to connect to it in my room.

The rooms are well-equipped and very clean. Every time I go shopping in Osaka, I pretty much stay at this place. Plus, this Kitahama branch is very close to both Yodoyabashi and Kitahama subway stations. The surrounding area is quiet and by the canal, unlike the noisy areas of Shinsaibashi and Namba. If you want to shop for clothes, you can just take the Midosuji Line to Umeda or Shinsaibashi. And if you're looking for anime merchandise, you can take the Sakaisuji Line from Kitahama Station to Nihonbashi or Ebisucho. Why did they give us a room on the 14th floor? For our entire 3-day stay, we were the only Chinese guests, and the room was so small we couldn't even open our luggage. The service wasn't as warm as the Holiday Inn Tokyo. Even though I'm an IHG member, they didn't register my membership when I showed my card, nor did they tell us there was a coffee machine on the 3rd floor. Breakfast on the 2nd floor was chaotic. We had to pay the departure tax on the day we checked in. The navigation for Honmachi Station exits was completely inaccurate; we ended up coming out of Exit 9, which made us walk around Shinsaibashi market. My Apple navigation also stopped working on the day we arrived, so I had to walk from the hotel to the Apple store in Osaka to get help from the staff. I saw on some social media that Google Maps has been having similar issues recently. There were also tour groups staying at this hotel.
