Cordia Hotel Makassar Airport
3.8/546 Reviews
Room was cheap so one cant expect too much, but the floor space around the bed was so small that a medium suitcase could not be put flat and opened. Not insurmountable if you are a solo traveller but somewhat inconvenient. No bottled water in the room, No means of heating water to make a cup of tea, coffee or packet soup. Bed pillows were way too big and hard for me to sleep comfortably. Shower water ran from cold to luke warm, back to cold again. Mind you it was midnight when my flight arrived at the airport but I was sooo looking forward to a nice hot shower. Breakfast, which was included in the price consisted of 4 food warmers, all with just a few scraps of food remaining (cold), an almost empty dispenser of Milo Flakes breakfast cereal (which was stale), no sugar and no cold milk. Breakfast was advised as being available between 3am and 9am. I came down to the breakfast area at 7am. Only 1 young kid on duty who really looked as if he had no experience. The only food available upon request was lumpy soggy steamed rice and that also was not hot. Overall, I suppose one could say that for the really low price the hotel was adequate. But forget the breakfast if you have onward travel by air and buy something decent at the numerous cafes on the quarantine side of the airport's departures area.
Hotel BBC Sengkang

A very basic hotel, nothing romantic, but great for 1 night on the transit. Rooms are a little small, bed is not very spacious, air-conditioning does it. Bathroom is OK. Tip; order saté in the nearby related restaurant, which is honest! 1 disadvantage, but we've already heard that; you hear at 05.00 not 1 mosque, pal next to the hotel, but it's there 4! Take it into account, then it's okay. Breakfast was very simple, but sufficient for this hotel.
Riswan Guest House

The location is after the Bira Tourism check point, where I paid the admission of IDR41k. It is very close to the back and in walking distance from the harbour area. The a/c room I had this time was clean. I wish the guesthouse could provide a towel. Overall, I had a pleasant stay at Riswan Guesthouse.

Makassar Beach Inn

For a very cheap hotel, this is very nice, clean, very modern and located right at the very center of the city apart from it's small size room, but its cheap anyway (IDR120.000/$9). If you're on a tight budget, this would be a very perfect place to stay, and by the way the staffs are very accomodating.

Amaris Hotel Panakkukang
4.1/525 Reviews
This hotel is right next to the panakukang mall. The location is quite strategic, easy to find anything near the hotel. The hotel room is quite clean, but the bathroom condition is like not well maintained. I think this hotel is suitable for short stays, because there is really no facility in the hotel. Enough for a comfortable sleep and shower. The breakfast menu is very minimal and the food taste is also less.
Urbanview Hotel Harapan Palopo

Stayed there for a night at that was enough. First off, it was difficult to find the hotel in the first place as it seems to have two names. The staff was friendly and there was internet at the reception and lobby. The hotel serves breakfast only, no dinner. This was unfortunately already all the positive things. The room had AC but there was no toilet paper, the light was pretty dark, one bulb wasn't working and no internet in the room (the reception told me there should be internet in the room but the signal didn't even make it through the room door). There was one tiny windows up on the wall and that was about it. Worst thing was the bathroom: It smelled really bad, old, and wasn't clean - see also photos. The entire bathroom was showering area so that nothing would stay dry.

Bara Beach Bungalows
4.3/512 Reviews
On the map, Bira looks relatively ”close” to Makassar, and most reviews say that it is a popular weekend destination. But don't be fooled by the map, it is rather a day-trip of about 6 hours to get from Makassar to Bira. But this is certainly worth it, once you have seen the beautiful white beach and the amazing colour of the water! All taken into account, we would recommend to stay at least 3 nights or more to be able to enjoy this fully. We were there during weekdays, so it was not too busy at the beach. Be prepared for some occasional Karaoke sound from nearby resorts, this seems to be a given activity for locals during beach trips... And you may feel like a celebrity at the beach, locals really like to take pictures with the tourists! The Bara Beach Bungalows are located almost at the end of the beach, in a nice sloping garden. The restaurant and reception is near the beach terrace and serves excellent food! We had many nice meals here and were not disappointed. We especially liked the water refill station (hot and cold water for free), this helps to reduce the plastic waste! Breakfast is sometimes served as a buffet if there are many guests, but on most days we got to select from the breakfast menu options (special requests were never a problem). Staff is very friendly and speaks good English, on most days you will also be able to meet the manager who appears to be a native speaker in both Indonesian and English and who gave us lots of nice advice for trips around the area. We definitely recommend to do a snorkeling trip by boat to the small island opposite the beach, there is a really beautiful coral reef garden with lots of different fish to be explored! You can walk along the beach during low tide to get to the other resorts, especially the partner location Akasha Beach Club is worth a visit for sunset! But keep the tide times in mind to safely get back and bring a torch or headlight (there is a road as well, just in case). Would stay here again any time if we are in the area!
