GillimLovely hotel plenty of space in rooms & public areas. two negatives. One was the request for £5 on arrival for parking which I didn’t know about or perhaps I didn’t see on the reservation. Sunday breakfast was the usual late rush of people coming down. The buffet wasn’t being replenished so I had hard fried eggs. Self Service tea and coffee I guess is a necessity but I would prefer a jug of hot water and a pot of tea.

Great location and spacious rooms. The bathroom facilities were excellent. Parking is available, but there's a fee. The breakfast offers a wide variety of choices, and there's no tax charged on hotel dining.

Room was on the small size, but had everything needed. Bathroom was clean and neat.
The only thing that let this trip down, was that the aircon is not working, and hasn’t been working for months. I previously had left this hotel as it was far too hot in the room, and all they offered was a fan. I called reception before booking, and they said how the air con was working, but then when I arrived, they said it “may be working, in some rooms”, but wasn’t working in ours.
But overall, this was a nice and comfortable hotel. Would book again once aircon is working.

Best Bits
The Castle is a lovely old fashioned hotel, perfectly positioned for shopping, river walks and IMHO, the best pub in Tamworth, The Old Bank House just across the road. It's also only about 6 minutes walk from the Jolly Sailor long stay car park where 24 hour parking costs only £2.
The man on the front desk was very helpful and showed us to our room. On finding out that we'd stayed at the hotel a few times before, he even offered to move us to to a room we'd stayed in previously.
We opted for the standard double room which had quite a comfortable bed and tea/coffee making facilities. There was also a large flat screen TV (not tried). Being at the back of the hotel meant that there was no noise from the road. The room overlooked a small inner courtyard which contained the fire escape stairs and at the correct angle you could just make out the crenellations of Tamworth Castle itself!
We didn't eat at the hotel this time but the next morning we spoke to other guests who raved over the fantastic cooked breakfasts so we'll probably try them next time we come.
Slight Downsides
The en-suite bathroom had a bath with shower over which was very effective once the hot water finally came through. This could be speeded up by turning on the hot water bath tap. A slight downside of the bathroom having a fan instead of natural ventilation was that it took ages for the steam to clear so washbag and contents got a bit damp.
There weren't any chairs in the room.

I recently stayed at this hotel and, unfortunately, the experience fell below expectations. From the beginning, the staff didn’t seem as attentive as they should be. Although they were polite when approached directly, there was a noticeable lack of initiative, and at times it felt as though guests were left to figure things out on their own.
The room itself had several issues that really shouldn’t be overlooked. The toilet seat wasn’t fitted properly, and on top of that, the toilet flush was wonky and didn’t work as smoothly as it should. These are basic facilities that need to function correctly for a comfortable stay. The shower also had mould on the silicone, which was disappointing and raised concerns about the level of maintenance and cleanliness.
Another issue was the cutlery provided in the room. It was dirty on arrival, which immediately created doubt about the overall hygiene standards. Small details like this make a big difference in how confident and comfortable a guest feels.
While the hotel has potential in terms of layout and amenities, these issues made the stay far less enjoyable. I genuinely hope management addresses these concerns so future guests can have a much better experience.

We booked to stay here as we had a daytime function nearby. We had a few hotels as options and chose here as it was a special occasion and this felt like a treat.
We all arrived at different times to get changed before leaving and said we all felt like we were an inconvenience from the moment we arrived. The staff weren't friendly or very helpful.
We arrived back from our function at 7.30pm and checked in, there was a change in staff but not a change in customer service.
We asked if we could get food from the restaurant and was told we couldn't because of ”everything else going on” which we assume was a wedding nor could we order room service. We asked if we were allowed to go for a drink in the bar and they said we could if we ”could find a table”.
We weren't informed of where breakfast was, the times or when check out was.
We went out for food in the end, but be mindful there isn't anything particularly nearby so it was a challenge with taxis but we found somewhere to eat easy enough (and had a lovely time).
The hotel itself is beautiful as are the grounds so we were really disappointed that the service didn't match it.

We really like staying here, if only for a single night to break up the evening drive from the south to the north west, picking our trip up again the following morning. Our most recent visit was the first using our new (to us) EV, so charging on site proved anxiety calming and very effective - albeit pricey! Thanks again to all concerned with our stay, we'll be back again - that is for sure! Best, M&C

Guest UserFantastic location right in the centre of town which also has parking (you must register your car for free parking). My room was in the annex and was a bit dated. It had everything I needed for a 3 night stay though and was spacious although the bathroom was quite small. Rooms are not serviced and I’d not been left a spare toilet roll. When I went to get one from Reception, there didn’t appear to be a stock so I was given one taken from the public washroom. Also, the shower couldn’t be adjusted so was a constant, very hot, temperature.
Plenty of places nearby for food and drinks.

A great little place with a lovely swimming pool. Enough activities to keep our 8 year old daughter happy. Lovely family time together in a very clean and well equipped lodge.
