Haven Inn

This is a decent place to stay but there is nothing special about it. The Haven Inn is very dated. The room was large and had a fridge and microwave. The beds were comfortable. We stayed for 3 nights. There is a restaurant onsite which was good for breakfast. There aren't a lot of options for meals in St Anthony so having a restaurant onsite was a plus. The room was downstairs at ground level and had a window but still it was quite dark. Many rooms we passed seemed to have no natural light at all. The bedspreads were horrendous floral affairs. The bathroom was clean but clearly in need of a refurbishment. On our first day, our room was not made up because we had the DO NOT DISTURB sign on...until 10 am! That certainly gave them plenty of time to go back and clean our room but that did not happen. The front desk staff were not terribly friendly but not unpleasant. There was an added marketing charge on our bill which I didn't catch at the time. These charges were not mentioned in our quoted rate nor were they government taxes. Overall, I would not recommend this place but if you have no other options, it is safe and clean.

We sought out this hotel for the promise of city / water views, and this was the only minor disappoint, as the view was partially blocked by the wing of the hotel that houses the restaurant. Otherwise we really like the spacious, clean room with its modern decor and conveniences (lots of plugins, good a/c microwave, fridge, coffeemaker etc). The bed was comfortable. We did notice that the fluffy clean towels were a little dingy grey in colour, likely due to the aesthetic water quality in general, which is common in Newfoundland. We did enjoy the well-run onsite restaurant which has the great views the rooms don't get. Great food there. Relatively close both to the highway and downtown, but still very quiet. The best views are on the top (third) floor, BUT there are no elevators to it. One enters the building lobby on the second floor, so it's only one floor to walk up with your bags. Staff were accommodating in switching rooms when we asked about getting a slightly better view.

We really enjoyed our stay here. Set on a quiet street and a large piece of property. The rooms were spacious and the bathrooms well supplied. There are hardwood floors throughout the house so walk lightly. You are asked to remove your shoes at the front door. We sat out on the patio and enjoyed the evening sunset. We did walk to the back of the property and saw the remains of the barn. The breakfast was perfect you have a choice of hot or cold continental breakfast. We did have a chance to talk to the caretaker a fellow named Junior. A great Newfoundlander and story teller. He can tell you all you need to know about the two towns. He made the stay more enjoyable.
