Somerset Grand Central Dalian

9.6/10
Excellent

I always stayed at this hotel for my business trips. This time, I brought my child and didn't hesitate to choose it again. It's a serviced apartment, and the room is huge. It comes with a washing machine and all the kitchen utensils you could need. The living room is super spacious, making it very convenient for working or doing homework, and my child loved it. Downstairs, there's also a billiard room, swimming pool, gym, and a kids' play area. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful; they're enthusiastic and patient and always resolve any issues promptly. Highly recommended – I'll definitely choose this hotel again next time I visit.

The hotel's exterior is magnificent, like a castle. I booked a sea view room, and the ocean view from the window was beautiful. Even though it's by the sea, the room was surprisingly dry; my swimsuit dried completely within a day. I was a bit anxious after reading reviews about long queues for breakfast, but when I got there, I found that before 8 AM, there's usually no queue. Plus, staff members directly seat you and place a reserved sign, which is a nice touch. In some hotels, even if there's no queue when it's busy, not finding a seat and having to wander around with your plate is even more awkward. Now for the good parts, there are two downsides I hope the hotel can improve. First, the hotel's Chinese restaurant is really expensive, and there's a service charge, but the taste and service were truly underwhelming. I had originally planned to just eat at the hotel every day, but after one meal, I realized it didn't even meet expectations for taste or value for money – it failed on all three counts. Secondly, for a hotel at this price point, charging for a can of Coke and a bottle of juice in the mini-fridge seems unnecessary. Many five-star hotels even offer a full selection of expensive drinks for free, along with complimentary fruit and snacks, but here they charge extra, which comes across as a bit petty.

Four Seasons Hotel Dalian

The Dalian Four Seasons was our first Four Seasons experience in China. Having previously stayed at Four Seasons hotels in Prague, Budapest, and Singapore, I'd come to the conclusion that 'Four Seasons is always a safe bet in any unfamiliar city.' In fact, if a city has a Four Seasons, that alone is a great reason to visit, as the brand has extremely high standards for location, and following their lead rarely goes wrong. The Dalian Four Seasons is located in the prime area of Zhongshan Road. It's within a 2km drive to places like Nanshan Street, Zhongshan Square, Democratic Square's Tram Route 201 starting point, and Russian Style Street. Just a 7-minute walk from the hotel, there's a cluster of local restaurants, which is very convenient. We stayed for four nights in an 80-square-meter Grand City View King Room. It featured a spacious bedroom (after fitting a comfortable king-size bed, an L-shaped sofa, a large round table, and chairs, there was still plenty of space for two people to practice Baduanjin), an oversized walk-in closet, and a bathroom. The vanity had the essential double sinks, which made it incredibly convenient for two people. What's particularly noteworthy is the large mirror with a built-in smart TV – this was truly amazing! It's a great bonus for those who brush their teeth thoroughly (which can take a while, so I often watch my iPad at home to avoid boredom). Four Seasons' in-room tea bags and capsule coffee have always been my favorite. The Dalian hotel thoughtfully labeled four different coffee varieties with their flavors and roast levels, and even included a decaffeinated option. This was incredibly friendly for coffee lovers who want to try different trendy cafes outside every day but are also concerned about excessive caffeine intake. Every day, I made a cup of decaf coffee in my room, and could even add milk and ice to make a delicious iced latte – I really enjoyed it. Among the tea bags, Maojian was my personal favorite and one I'd recommend. Speaking of which, I must praise the hotel's sky lobby. Located on the 41st floor, it offers breathtaking sea views. Every day, I spent a long time sitting on the sofa here, reading or simply gazing at the sea, feeling a deep sense of holiday bliss. At 38樓, the gym is the most beautiful I've ever seen in any Four Seasons hotel, and indeed, in any hotel I've stayed in! This is because it boasts the same stunning sea views as the sky lobby. I went to the gym for 2 hours every day for four consecutive days. The equipment was sufficient to train shoulders, chest, back, and glutes/legs on separate days. The completeness of the fitness equipment rivaled that of the Singapore Four Seasons, but the sea view is a definite plus for the Dalian Four Seasons. I was also particularly pleased with the hotel breakfast. While other categories offered everything imaginable, that wasn't the main point. What truly impressed me was how few hotel restaurants can provide a comprehensive selection of avocado, cold-brew overnight oats (with nuts and fresh blueberries), sourdough bread, and salmon with purple cabbage salad all at once. For fitness enthusiasts who maintain a healthy diet year-round, this is an absolute godsend. Even more impressive than all the perfect hardware mentioned above was the service at the Dalian Four Seasons, which perfectly embodied the Four Seasons' core philosophy of 'treating others as you would like to be treated.' I especially want to thank Kayla and Carrie, the duty managers from the Guest Experience Department. They started coordinating with me two days before my arrival. Every morning after check-in, they would message me on WeChat to ask about our comfort levels. After the first night, they adjusted room details based on my personal preferences and needs, making me truly feel the same convenience and comfort as if I were at home. During these five days in Dalian, I truly felt that the Four Seasons makes you happy whether you leave to explore during the day or stay in all day long. A city with a Four Seasons inherently becomes more attractive, and it's a hotel you can 'mindlessly choose' without ever going wrong. Dalian Four Seasons, you are my perfect Four Seasons hotel, and for you, I am willing to return to Dalian!

I arrived in Dalian just as a typhoon hit, and it was raining all the way from the airport to the hotel. I was feeling a bit down after getting drenched, but when I got to the front desk, the staff upgraded my standard double room to a family room for free. That instantly cheered me up and made my mood much better! The room was huge and even had two bathrooms. Plus, we got to see the fireworks show from Discoveryland across the way both nights, which was totally worth it! 👍🏻 On the first night, a hornet flew into our room, and the staff handled it very promptly. 👍🏻 The hotel is also very close to the beach, so overall it was a very chill stay.

Traveling to Dalian, I wanted to avoid the noisy, trendy spots, so I chose the New World Hotel. The overall atmosphere is quite serene, making for a very relaxing stay. I enjoyed working out and swimming at the hotel in my free time – that slow-paced vacation feeling was incredibly comfortable, perfect for unwinding. The pool truly lives up to its online reputation. Housekeeping wasn't just superficial; the tabletops and bathroom corners were meticulously cleaned. Within walking distance, there are many local eateries, so no need to venture far for food. The staff were all very discreet, not overly chatty, but always there when called upon. Compared to other places during my Dalian trip, the service here was arguably the best experience. I had a peaceful and enjoyable holiday, and the overall experience was excellent.

Although the hotel is a bit old, it's still pretty good overall. The kids had a great time, and we could see Labor Park across the street. It's very close to Dalian Shopping Mall, just diagonally opposite the hotel, and the first floor of the mall is full of food options where you can buy souvenirs. You can also walk to Zhongshan Square.

The location is great, very close to Zhongshan Square, and you can walk to all the popular Instagrammable spots there. It's also easy to walk to other nearby areas, and transportation is very convenient. There are plenty of restaurants around, and a pleasant surprise was finding a market right next door. The room wasn't huge, but it was very clean, and the service was excellent.

The location is great, making it convenient to get anywhere by taxi. Although the subway entrance is nearby, it doesn't have an elevator or escalator, so you have to climb stairs – something to keep in mind if you're traveling with elderly family members. I originally booked a Huazhu or Atour hotel nearby, but my family prefers to eat breakfast at the hotel, so I switched to the InterContinental. It's definitely an older hotel, and you can still see its former grandeur. The doorman was excellent; he always helped open doors and handle luggage when our car arrived. The front desk staff were very thoughtful and kept helping us change rooms to meet my family's preferences. The only minor inconvenience was the additional security deposit required upon check-in. The room itself was very clean, but it lacked modern amenities like smart devices or a smart toilet. The TV was small and not high-definition, and the curtains looked quite old. On the positive side, the shower pressure was great and the water was hot. Having a bathtub in the room was a nice touch, perfect for a relaxing soak after a long day. The bedding was soft and comfortable. The windows couldn't be opened directly; you had to call a staff member, but once open, you had a view of Friendship Square. The hotel breakfast was quite good, with a wide variety of options. Many dishes were beautifully presented, like my favorite Eggs Benedict and the sea cucumber and rice dish. There are many great small restaurants nearby, and you can discover quite a few good ones just by walking around the area.

The room was spacious and clean. I just wonder if it's disinfected after every guest, especially since it's a pet-friendly hotel, and I'm a bit concerned about other dogs having skin issues. Overall, it's pretty good, but there's no suitable place nearby for dog walking or bathroom breaks.

The hotel on the golf course feels that it is mainly prepared for guests who come to play golf overnight. It is written as a five-star, but the facilities are actually a bit old. Facing the side of the course, the view is invincible, it is worth a trip for one night alone. The price is also very reasonable. The manager is very enthusiastic. Breakfast is a set meal, relatively simple and tastes good. The room is large, with a balcony and a bathtub. There is free bottled water, because it is a small bottle, so four bottles were given. Later, two bottles were sent. Insufficient: 1. The hot water flow in the shower is too small and the water temperature is low. The traffic below is a bit noisy in the morning.
