Novotel Living Dalian Zhongshan Square

9.7/10
Excellent

My stay at the Novotel Living Dalian Zhongshan Square with my little one was a fantastic surprise! The location is unbeatable; it's right next to Zhongshan Square with subway access right outside, making it super convenient for exploring and dining. The room was set up like an apartment, offering plenty of space and a full kitchen, which was a huge plus for heating up baby food. What really stood out was how thoughtful the hotel was towards kids. During check-in, they proactively offered two sets of building blocks, which my child absolutely loved and kept them happily occupied, significantly reducing any fussing. The entire room was spotless, the floor-to-ceiling windows offered expansive views, and the soundproofing was excellent – my child's nap went undisturbed. The gym and self-service laundry room were incredibly practical, and the 24-hour front desk staff were gentle and patient, responding to any issues super fast. Combining hotel service with the comfort of home, it's definitely my top choice for family travel. I'll be staying here again on my next trip to Dalian!

I genuinely recommend this hotel; the overall quality far exceeded my expectations. The lobby is grand and spotless, creating a wonderful atmosphere that instantly brightens your mood upon entering. The guest rooms are a good size with a well-organized layout, and the washroom is clean and refreshing with a consistent and ample hot water supply. The front desk staff are patient and enthusiastic, always going the extra mile to help with any requests, providing truly heartwarming service. The hotel's hygiene is rigorously maintained, with every nook and cranny meticulously cleaned. The location offers convenient transportation, making it a stress-free and comfortable choice for your travels. Definitely my top pick!

First off, the location is fantastic – nestled by the mountains and the sea, yet still conveniently close to the city. The architectural style is grand and imposing; it's beautiful both inside and out. It's a photographer's dream with so many picturesque spots, perfect for those who love taking photos. For families or those with kids, I highly recommend a sea-view room. My trip was quite spontaneous; I booked hotels last minute for all three nights. Honestly, the value for money here surpasses the Grand Hyatt, though it might not be as close to Xingyue Square. However, you can easily get around by taxi, or use the hotel shuttle to go down the hill. If the weather's nice, a leisurely stroll down is also enjoyable (you might even spot a deer along Binhai West Road – they're super cute! The complimentary apples from the hotel are a hit with them, even more so than carrots). Plus, the room views here are much better than the Grand Hyatt. Most Grand Hyatt rooms offer an angled sea view, whereas at Yi Fang Castle, the rooms generally face the sea directly, front and center. The service deserves five stars. The front desk staff were gentle and enthusiastic. When we had a minor issue with the toilet in our room, they were proactive in resolving it. They even followed up at check-out to ask about our experience and later called to apologize, concerned about affecting our stay. We only discovered the toilet lid was beeping around 11 PM. A technician came to look, but it seemed like it couldn't be fixed right away. We asked the front desk, and they immediately sent new room cards and upgraded our room. Though it was a small hiccup, we felt truly taken care of. Our whole family unanimously decided we'd stay here again on our next trip to Dalian. It's convenient whether you want to just relax or go out and explore. One small heads-up for those considering staying: the hotel has been open for a while now, so it has that classic, established luxury hotel style. If you prioritize modern facilities, you might want to consider other options. Hotels closer to Donggang tend to be newer. It really depends on individual needs. I'd recommend it to photography lovers, families with kids, and anyone looking for a relaxing getaway. We didn't dine at the hotel, so I can't comment on the food. However, Dalian has many delicious dining options, and the city isn't too big, so you can easily find great food just by exploring.

Excellent location! Absolutely loved it! I chose this hotel because it was the newest one in the city center, renovated in 2025, and the facilities are indeed very modern. The surrounding area is packed with fantastic restaurants, and the service was great too. The only minor issue is that the building houses several hotels, so the elevator wait can be a bit long. Other than that, everything was perfect. We had a small issue with the AC in our room, and they immediately moved us to a larger room on the same floor. We'll definitely be back!!

My stay at the Lavande Hotel Dalian was fantastic! The location is excellent, making it super convenient for getting around, and the surrounding commercial area is well-developed, so dining and shopping were a breeze. The room was spotless and odor-free, and the 'forest air purification system' made the air fresh and comfortable. The Mousse mattress was soft and supportive, ensuring a really sound sleep. The bathroom had a great wet/dry separation, and the Bluetooth speaker was a nice touch, making shower time incredibly relaxing. The front desk staff were warm, attentive, and very responsive. Check-in and check-out were handled efficiently. The breakfast buffet offered a rich variety of options, both Chinese and Western, and everything was nutritious and delicious. Overall, it offered great value for money, with attention to detail and a refined, quiet environment. It's perfect for both business and leisure travelers. I'll definitely choose this hotel again next time I'm in Dalian!

We stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel Dalian Golden Pebble Beach for two nights over the Dragon Boat Festival, booking two rooms, and we were absolutely delighted! From the moment we checked in, the service was exceptional. The front desk staff were all incredibly welcoming, especially Yi Yangqianxi, who even upgraded our rooms. We had a fantastic view of the ocean from our floor, which was such a mood booster. The hotel itself has a vibrant musical vibe, with a distinct rock 'n' roll flair 🤘. The rooms were great too. It's right by the beach, and Discoveryland is only a few hundred meters away, so the kids had an amazing time. The breakfast selection was quite diverse, with something to please everyone. In the evenings, we also visited the hotel's own bar and enjoyed a couple of drinks – it was fantastic! There was even a foreign resident singer who performed beautifully, making it a perfect spot to unwind. We'll definitely choose to stay here again on our next visit!

I booked two rooms and they were able to arrange for them to be together. The service was excellent and professional, and all the staff I encountered were very friendly. Breakfast until 10 AM gets very crowded, so waiting for a table is common. For all three days, we were seated at the lobby coffee tables. On the first day, due to the sheer number of guests, breakfast was even extended until 10:30 AM. Food was actively replenished, and there was a good variety. They also kindly provided takeaway boxes, which was a nice touch. The swimming pool is open until 11 PM and has lifeguards. The depth ranges from 1.3 to 1.5 meters, with separate lanes for swimming and a play area, so they don't interfere with each other. I also saw staff monitoring the water quality. There are many restaurants nearby; Sun Moon Rise (日月昇) is just a 7-8 minute walk away. Getting a taxi to various attractions is also quite convenient, but if you're heading to Dalian Station, it's best to allow extra time for a taxi as it's so close that drivers often cancel orders. On departure, there was a small surprise for the children. The kids' play area has strong air conditioning and closes at 6 PM. There's an apartment building behind the hotel that shares facilities, which could also be an option.

Now that my trip is over, I still want to review my stay. I chose this hotel because it was already in my favorites when I decided to visit Dalian. I picked it primarily for the scenic views, and indeed, the hotel's location and the room's view were quite good, and the staff service was okay. However, there were a few aspects that were rather mediocre. Firstly, the mattress and pillows. After a five-hour drive, I didn't get that comfortable, refreshing feeling when I lay down. The mattress even felt like it had a springy texture. For someone like us, who just wanted to relax at the hotel and explore a bit, this significantly impacted our travel experience. We stayed for four consecutive days, and every day felt like an endurance test; I even considered switching hotels for the last two days. Secondly, the shower. The overhead shower didn't work, so my 6'3” partner had to use the handheld showerhead, which was quite low, even for me. More importantly, the water temperature was unstable; for all four days, it kept fluctuating between hot and cold. Since showering isn't exactly the time to call for assistance, I just had to bear with it, dodging the water when it got too hot or too cold. Thirdly, breakfast and meals. Given the hotel's somewhat secluded location, I suggest they improve their dining options. On our first day, we had planned to enjoy a nice dinner, but there really weren't many choices. Also, for a resort hotel, breakfast ending at 9 AM is far too early. Even budget hotels like Hanting and Atour now serve until 10:30 or 11 AM. There were also some minor issues, like running out of complimentary water in the room. When we asked for more, the water provided wasn't the same brand as the original. Honestly, how much cost can they save by doing that? But it certainly detracts from the guest experience. I had initially hoped to make this hotel my go-to choice for future Dalian vacations, especially since it has its own small beach. I hope the owner collects guest feedback and focuses on optimizing the actual experience, especially considering the price point. This stay was definitely not as comfortable as the two days we spent in Shanhaiguan.

Pullman Dalian

I stayed here in 2023 when it was still a Kempinski. The spa and bakery left a deep impression on me. Since 2026, it has rebranded to Pullman by Accor, without closing for renovations, so the facilities remain unchanged. This time in Dalian, I revisited the hotel. Having been open for over twenty years, the facilities are indeed quite old. The room has a lot of heavy wooden furnishings, which must have been a significant investment back then. Many of them are no longer very smooth to use, such as the wardrobe sliding doors and bathroom drawers. They are difficult to move, and any attempt to do so would require major renovation. This also applies to issues like only having a charging port on one side of the bed, which many guests complain about. Personally, I quite like this old-fashioned, substantial hotel decor style; it lacks the cheap feel of some newer high-end hotels. Old is fine, as long as it doesn't affect normal use. The faucet is a Danish brand, possibly a concept product more focused on styling. It has a strange push-button operation. Some are smooth, others are very stiff and difficult to use, making it hard to control water flow and potentially scratching hands. The bed and sofa are very comfortable. It took me a while to find the light switches in the room, only to realize they were on the central control panel – a small, inconspicuous box by the bedside. The service is still good. It's peak season now, but I was still able to check in at the regulated time. This time, I bought a package through Trip.com, which included breakfast for two and dinner at Paulaner. It was a great value. The front desk even upgraded me to a better room type in a separate building, the VIP building, which has less than ten rooms per floor. Regarding the food: The breakfast variety is decent. The menu listed omelets, so I asked the chef to make one, and it tasted good. For milk, there was hot whole milk and cold skim milk; cold whole milk would have been a nice addition. The bakery, no longer part of Kempinski, has changed its products. My favorite chocolate croissants are gone. I bought some sliced cakes, and they tasted good. Paulaner has an excellent environment with a great atmosphere and live performances. The service is also very attentive, and guests get a 25% discount. However, pizzas take a long time to prepare; I waited over an hour for mine. The spa and pool are still the same as before, with an exotic flair. Several hot tubs and my favorite steam bath were all open and functioning. The pool is deeper than usual, at 1.5-1.8m, and it wasn't crowded, making it very peaceful. My main suggestions are all regarding the facilities: 1. The wooden furnishings that are not smooth to use should be repaired. 2. Add a charging port to the other side of the bed. 3. Replace the strange faucets. 4. The two panels of the curtains should not be on a single track; they need to overlap to prevent a gap, otherwise, how can light be blocked effectively?

The hotel's location is excellent, within walking distance of Zhongshan Square, with convenient access to dining, accommodation, and transportation. My only issue was having to switch rooms upon arrival (I was traveling with a child and had specifically requested a room without any unpleasant odors when booking, but the first room reeked, even with an air purifier running – surely the hotel should have noticed this before guests do). Housekeeping was prompt, and the pool was clean and tidy. Aside from the price, I was quite satisfied. Since breakfast wasn't included, we explored the local eateries. KFC, Hezhanjia (Japanese), Qicaihe (Korean), and Yizao Yiwan (for tofu pudding and fried dough sticks) were all great. For groceries, Xinlongjia supermarket had fresh fruit. Dalian Shopping Mall wasn't far and offered plenty of dining options. All in all, it's a suitable hotel for families.
