Great

The hostel was well located in the old city. It was very close to museums and shops. The building is old and beautiful. I stayed in a single and it was very spacious. I have only two complaints: the perfume on the cleaning supplies (on linens or otherwise) was overwhelming. The first night, I woke up and I could taste it. The other complaint is about the state of the carpet and couch. Both were pretty stained and not well-maintained.
The above said, it was a nice stay. The room was big, the staff were friendly, and it was very well located. I would recommend this to a traveler looking to save a little money.

We had a private room. Small. Very basic. Stinky towels. The worst fitting bed sheets I've ever come across in years of travel. The optional breakfast is not worth it. Coffee available all day though.
This place is tremendously popular. Kitchen is good and clean! The rest of the building is grungy. Could do with a few deep cleans. It is a real hostel so a bit of dirt does not seem to be a problem. Good staff and good location.
El Viajero Hostel in Colonia is much nicer.
Location is good if you want to stay in the old town as opposed to staying in the better areas of town towards the east). Bed was comfortable. Most facilities such as hot shower, toilet, lift and Wifi worked well. The place was kept clean. For me the biggest problem was the noise. There is a large communal space on the first floor, but with very loud music from early morning to late at night. When checking in at 11:00 AM I could hardly hear what the receptionist said. She seemed unaware of the noise around here (complete absence of empathy). As the small kitchen is adjacent to the bar area, you can not evade the noise when using it. It feels like cooking in a disco. On the second floor is a "quiet area", but most space is taken by a TV room, while the leftover space is used by other guests to make loud phone calls. Escaping to a balcony is problematic as well, as people usually smoke there and/or make phone calls there. Because of the ongoing party atmosphere, people drink or get drunk resulting in anti-social behaviour in the rooms at night and of course heavy snoring or vomiting. Most annoying I found most staff, who act as a kind of DJs and think their choice of music and volume levels is the best. Some even shout at each other from one end of the bar to the other.

I chose the hostel following an incredible stay at the same chain hostel in Colonia del Sacramento and while it was in many ways a good choice, it has not quite lived up to the previous expectation. The location is amazing in the middle of Montevideo’s old town and the rooftop sunsets are absolutely stunning. But the hostel is huge, spread out on four floors and the lovely young staff sometimes just seems to be a bit overwhelmed. They also offer rooms for single use and even these are very reasonably priced so definitely a good place for budgetary reasons. The one area where some improvement is definitely needed is a the cleanliness, not so much in the rooms but the general areas but hopefully that happens when they gear up for the summer season.

It exceeded my expectations. The staff was super friendly, the location is perfect, and the place is beautiful—a renovated old house with an elevator. The rooms have lockers and are quite comfortable. My experience was in the women's room. I had a great rest, privacy, and the bathroom is super spacious and clean.

Positive points: location. For a first trip to Montevideo, it is right in the historic center with most of the attractions within walking distance. Negative points: I stayed 6 nights: 4 in a shared room and 2 in a private room. The facilities are old, broken or breaking, kitchen utensils in poor condition, bunk beds are integrated, that is, any movement made by the roommate above or below reflects on you, room full of dust and poorly cleaned, lack of mirror in the room); lack of hygiene and cleanliness (stained bed linen, with dirt marks, trash can in the bathroom too small for the number of users, refrigerator with broken shelf and bad smell, dusty room, dirty lockers with belongings from other guests left there, lack of toilet seat protectors, broken toilet paper roll holder, broken sponge and soap holder); lack of peace and quiet to sleep (on weekends, during the day, the historic center is very quiet because almost all the shops are closed, but at night it is very noisy on the street, which makes it almost unbearable to sleep. There is no soundproofing whatsoever); lack of quality in service (in general, employees who do not provide adequate assistance - for example: they do not respond to your requests, they do not advise you on how to use the bike they rent - they charge, but they do not advise you on how to use the brakes so that you do not have an accident using only the front brake. There is a lack of preparation and training to provide better service, even though it is not a hotel, as they like to say to justify the poor quality in solving problems. I asked to change the bed and I am still waiting for them to get back to me - I solved the problem with the bed myself - I had belongings stolen from the refrigerator and what I heard from the hostel is that they are not responsible, after all, it is a hostel and not a hotel); lack of integration activities between guests (one of the advantages of a hostel over any regular hotel is the possibility of connecting with people from all over the world, but Viajero doesn't promote them, it's very quiet).

The rooms are very charming, the location is great, and the reception is incredibly helpful in Uruguay. I didn't get to try the coffee, but it's close to several cafes and bistros. The building is old, so some structural aspects are lacking, but that's how Uruguay is.

Muito bom. Ficamos em quarto com banheiro privativo. Tudo limpo e bem conservado. Area comum legal e animada.
