Luxury Hotels in Playa del Carmen

I love the scenery! The atmosphere is great and the pool is great too! However, replies are so slow that it is very difficult to communicate via email.

Main Point: Set expectations low for service and do not trust anything to be guaranteed regardless of what is advertised or written. Impressions review: my wife and I were super excited to visit this resort after the amazing reviews. The rooms, pools, and resort itself was good eye candy, and the food on the impressions side was delicious and significantly better than the Moxche side (which quite frankly isn't even worth eating). Unfortunately that's about where the pros end. The service leaves a lot to be desired. Multiple instances of resort staff simply forgetting a request or order (e.g. we ordered drinks at seaside for lunch and repeatedly reminded the waitress, and it never arrived). The list of benefits advertised is also not all true. Examples from my stay. Benefit: Twice daily refreshed in-suite mini-bar. Reality: room was only cleaned and not restocked for 3 days. Benefit: complimentary laundry service Reality: room was missing the laundry bag and form required to use this service. For the entire week's stay. Over a dozen requests and was never done. Benefit: Butler service Reality: sometimes useful but it's 3 butlers split between 100+ rooms. The attention to detail was lacking, and they got my dinner reservation wrong, causing us to nearly miss out on a meal altogether. The stay wasn't all bad and we did enjoy the food, the pools, and some of the activities. (So basically the non-service dependent aspects) Just be warned that 5 star luxury service (or rather any service really) is definitely not guaranteed. The management team also doesn't care much for service recovery so escalating any issues will usually be met with disgruntled staff who probably won't be able to resolve anything anyways.

As the Banyan Tree service did not have to say, that is, the charges are expensive, even the expensive is not good for hygiene, the pool villas, the small collapse in the yard can not lie, placed in the corner of the eaves do not say mosquitoes There are many ant bugs and a lot of spider webs. It looks dirty. The colony is also covered with insect secretions and spider webs. The partitions in the room are all gray, which makes people feel uncomfortable. And if it is too far to go to the beach, it is not convenient. It can only be said that this Banyan Tree is relatively backward, not as good as the nearby Viseroy.

Another great vacation at Grand Velas Riviera Maya. Once again, our lovely buttler CAROLINA took care of everything for us, and particularly all the attentions for the birthday of my wife. CAROLINA is professional, efficient, and always happy. Special thanks to the CAFE AMAT STAFF, all the girls are so kind, and AZUL STAFF, particularly LUCINA, and YAZMIN at the ADULT POOL. And finally, we have really appreciated all the attention the STAFF and the CHEF of LUCA had for us for our last dinner. Muchas Gracias!!

Unique property with individual cabins with plunge pool Pool/dining area is the heart of the property with stellar service. Rooms were amazing as well. Spa was great. Location is about 25$ US taxi ride from downtown Playa Del Carmen. Food prices were inconsistent. All were somewhat expensive, but a few things were very expensive (over $30 pizza), but amazing experience. All of which leads to the Staff, Alberto, Pepe, Encino being the stars of the show.

We recently stayed at the Rosewood Mayakoba for 8 nights. I struggled with the rating but decided it's average for this price class (which is more like European pricing than Mexico pricing). I would say 3.5, but I am going to round it up because the individuals working here are very nice. We had some hiccups which would prevent us from coming again at this price point, which I'll share below. But first, here are the things I really loved: - The setting is beautiful, truly a breathtaking area - We loved being able to bike around - The property is well-staffed and feels extremely safe - They have trained hawks at the pool to scare away the birds - Our son loved the kids club! - At one point did get sick and they sent a doctor within 30 minutes. It cost $100. She wrote me an Rx and the hotel went and picked it up and delivered it to the room. I felt very taking care of. - Having a hotel greeter and ride to the resort was really helpful. This was an extra cost, but well worth it - The welcome cookies are the best cookies I've ever had! - The wildlife is really fun. We saw monkeys, iguanas, coati, and more! We had two rooms (one beachfront studio suite and one deluxe lagoon suite). Despite the beachfront studio suite being $1K more per night than the deluxe lagoon suite, it was not as nice. The room (520) had more wear and tear (perhaps because of its proximity to the beach), the outdoor furniture was ratty, and there was a pretty big staircase up to the front door. Plus, the view was not really of the beach -- it was of the rooftops of the beach-front villas (you could see the ocean beyond that). We decided to downgrade to a deluxe lagoon suite (315) which was larger and newer. Despite it being a downgrade in terms of pricing ($1k/night less), we were not compensated for the difference. I would personally recommend either splurging on the beachfront villa OR the deluxe lagoon suite. Beyond this, we did have a few kinks in our stay that make this resort a notch below a 5-star experience: - The website is misleading and needs to be updated. On the individual room class page, it says the ”terms and conditions” which include free airport transfer, daily breakfast, etc. However, these are only the terms and conditions for the villas. They should only include the T&C for the room class that is on the page. - Our keys didn't work when we went back to the room on the first day - They gave the kids water bottles, but they were used with other kids names on them - The food is hit or miss. We did enjoy the variety and being able to go to other restaurants in Mayakoba. - If you have young kids, beware of things keeping them up at night. One night they were cleaning the unit below us at 10PM. And on our last night (the night before a 5AM departure to the airport) there was loud music from a wedding until 11:15PM. - It's really hard to get a boat to go anywhere.
