"Had good stay with room very spacious for 2 person (took twin bed room)..everything looks modern. Staff friendly and helpful. It’s 10-15mins walk to Gion District. Near to Sanjo Keihan Station, provides convenient access to Gion-Shijo and Higashiyama area. Easy access to public bus and train. Will stay here again on next visit."

"Our family stayed for three nights. We had a very comfortable and pleasant stay thanks to the meticulous cleaning of every corner of the room, hallways, large public bath, individual bathrooms, toilets, windows, and window sills. Although the building itself seemed a bit old, the fact that it was so well-cleaned and maintained left a great impression. We also ordered the Japanese breakfast, and the white rice was glossy and delicious. There was a good balance of various small dishes, including vegetables and fish, which was a welcome change for our stomachs after eating out so much during our trip. The food was really tasty. We also appreciated the front desk's help with restaurant recommendations and for providing a plaster when I got a blister. Thank you very much!"

"This hotel was truly excellent. I often find that Japanese domestic hotels can be hit or miss due to different standards compared to international ones, but this place far exceeded my expectations. It was a very comfortable stay. My only minor complaint is that I thought I got a better deal by booking in advance, but on the day of check-in, I noticed the same price included breakfast. Since we were three people in two rooms without breakfast, I can't comment on the breakfast quality. This experience led me to believe that hotels weren't busy lately, so I booked subsequent hotels later, only to find myself paying much higher last-minute prices for other accommodations – that's on me, though. Another small issue was that one of the rooms didn't have tea replenished on the second day. However, overall, I was very satisfied. Previously, for convenience in Kyoto, I always stayed near Kyoto Station, but this time I discovered the Higashiyama area is also excellent. The surroundings have a wonderfully relaxed old-town vibe, and it's convenient for local attractions."

"I noticed this hotel's location on my last visit to Kyoto. It's incredibly convenient for Eikando, Philosopher's Path, Ginkakuji, Honen-in, Anrakuji, Shinnyodo, Eishoin, Chion-in, and Shoren-in – absolutely the best choice for autumn leaf viewing. The hotel is small yet exquisite, offering excellent tea sets and tea. It boasts a beautiful garden shared with Okazaki Shrine's別邸 (detached residence). The hotel facilities are also good (though unfortunately, no buckwheat pillows, and the air conditioning temperature was a bit uncomfortable and hard to adjust). The lounge has a nice view, serving only alcohol, coffee, and tea. I ordered a chestnut cake. The restaurant service was polite but lacked warmth. There's a large supermarket and a bus stop nearby, but restaurants are a bit further away, so I didn't go out in the evenings."

"Room was clean and spacious enough for two people. There was also a table with two chairs in the room, which was very convenient for me to work at during the evenings. The staff were very kind and helpful. Complimentary amenities were available in the common area, and guests could request pajamas from the reception desk. I forgot to bring a plug adapter and asked to borrow one from the receptionist. Fortunately, they had one available and lent it to me free of charge. The location is convenient, about a 7–8 minute walk from Sanjo Station and the Kamo River. It is also close to a bus stop, about a 5-minute walk away, making it easy to get to Gion. The breakfast offered a good variety of options. There were both Japanese and international dishes, and the quality was good and well-prepared. I enjoyed staying and just realised I didnt take any photos of the room but nutto during breakfast…🤣"

"The Gate Hotel, converted from a former school, is incredibly clean and beautiful. On the ground floor, you'll find a Blue Bottle Coffee, Japanese restaurant, and a bookstore, plus a lovely lawn where many people relax and socialize. Despite being located in Kyoto's liveliest area, the hotel is surrounded by a stream, creating a beautiful sense of serene isolation from the hustle and bustle. The pure white walls, set against lush greenery, are simply picturesque. The hotel offers great value for money, and the handsome foreign gentleman at the ground floor reception and the attentive ladies at the front desk provided an exceptional experience overall."

"Extremely satisfied. I've stayed here multiple times, even making it a point to visit Kyoto just for this hotel. It's conveniently located, making it easy to get anywhere. It's clean and tidy, and the service is attentive and warm. Plus, I simply love hotels with hot springs. The late-night noodles are a fun touch too."

"The room was quite spacious and the price was excellent. However, there were some downsides. Firstly, the air conditioning blew directly onto the bed, which caused headaches if it was too strong, and if it was set too low, it got hot. Secondly, the room windows had no curtains, so I woke up every day between 6 and 7 am because it was too bright. Additionally, while the Osaka property had a washing machine in every room and a balcony for drying clothes, this place had no balcony, and laundry and drying services incurred extra charges."
