"This is a great option if you want a budget option that is still reasonably comfortable and clean. You get a physical key as the room key and there and then you know that it is a dated hotel. And that also means anyone can access the hotel room floors, and thankfully, there was no security issues throughout our stay. Besides that, the hotel room amenities are acceptable and we enjoyed using the bathroom supplies very much. We booked the Large Twin Room which also means our bath area and toilet are in separate rooms, which is great. The bathroom has the traditional bath house concept with the stool and low mirror, which made our bath time fun for the kids and interesting for adults. We like that fresh towels were provided daily even if we put the Do Not Disturb sign on the door knob. Housekeeping would leave the items in a plastic bag outside your door, including bottles of mineral water. Yes, bottled water is provided for free here, which is perfect. The hotel staff were very friendly. Lifts were spacious and worked perfectly. There were no bugs in the room. Our non-smoking room also smelled fine - no odd or bad smell/odour. The location is also easy for taxi drivers to find. There's also a Family Mart and 7-11 less than 5 minutes away. While you're there, check out Yakinikukotora, just 5 minutes away - a great place to go for dinners and suppers; I believe they close at 3am. All in all, it was a pleasant stay."

"This was one of the low key place where it is located after crossing Nara train station. Convenient. Staff was welcoming, allow to leave luggage before check in time. The whole hotel has tatami flooring, you need to go to locker leave your shoes in there, throughout the stay. In the room they gave you a bag, socks to wear around hotel and towels to use in public onsen. It was a great experience and dipping in hot pool after long day walk. Most families guests, and they allow older kids accompanied with parent of same gender. But those parent don't know how to control kids should respect the other guests. I have kid myself and try to be respectful. Since after onsen they wan to give cooling down so they have free flow ice cream afternoon to night. And probiotic drink morning. They have a massage chair and if it is peak season proly all these will be in queue. But I went on weekday and end of May so it was quite nice. Not too busy. I didnt pick hotel breakfast as I always wake up late lol. Oh and supper 9pm or 930pm onward they provide ramen and it was real nice after a long day and after onsen, hearty hot ramen soup and green tea to end the night. The experience they provide part of the stay is really fantastic!"

"Modern stylish hotel. Room was spacious with panoramic view. Cozy comfortable matres and soft pillow. Very hospitality staff. In every moment try to help you. You may see Nara deers from cafe terrace. Convenient and quiet location. Not too many tourists. Grocery and a lot of deers near. Paid parking about 700 yens per weekday. I couldn't eat Japanese breakfast. It was too conceptual and unusual. But western breakfast is ok. I recommend you not to pay for hotel breakfast. Because of its unpalatable and at a high price for this place. Handy laundry. One washing costs 600 yens."

"## Toyoko Inn Nara: An Ideal Gateway to Tang Dynasty Elegance and History Staying at Toyoko Inn Nara felt like embarking on a thousand-year journey into Tang Dynasty culture. The hotel's location is truly a prime hub: it's not only close to iconic ancient temples like Todai-ji and Kofuku-ji, but also incredibly convenient for visiting Toshodai-ji Temple and Yakushi-ji Temple. Just a short bus ride from the hotel takes you directly to these Buddhist sanctuaries, which bear the indelible marks of Sino-Japanese cultural exchange. Setting out from the hotel, the majestic grandeur of Toshodai-ji Temple is truly awe-inspiring. Designed by Master Jianzhen himself after his eastward journey, its architecture perfectly blends the imposing scale of Tang Dynasty buildings with Japanese aesthetics. Amidst its vermilion pillars and graceful bracket complexes, one can still faintly discern the enduring legacy of the prosperous Tang Dynasty. At Yakushi-ji Temple, the towering East Pagoda stands as Japan's oldest surviving three-story wooden pagoda. Its exquisitely intricate carvings tell tales of the glorious era when Buddhism first arrived in Japan. Nearby, the Heijo Palace Site, once the political heart of the Nara period, may now be reduced to ruins, but it still allows visitors to envision the bustling splendor of what was once known as 'Japan's Chang'an City'. Strolling through Nara's streets, one can clearly see the east-west symmetrical layout of a city meticulously modeled after Chang'an, the Tang Dynasty capital – almost like a code for time travel. The hotel is perfectly situated in the heart of this Tang-inspired ancient charm, offering both convenience for exploring and a tranquil retreat from the bustling city. The guest rooms are clean and tidy, with a minimalist yet cozy Japanese-style decor. After a tiring day, returning here to enjoy a cup of hot tea and relax on the tatami mat evokes a wonderful sense of comfort and relaxation. The hotel staff are warm and professional. They not only patiently answer questions in English but also thoughtfully provide transportation guidance between attractions. The surrounding izakayas (Japanese pubs) and convenience stores are also very convenient, making it exceptionally easy to savor Nara's famous Kakinoha-zushi (persimmon leaf sushi) or purchase souvenirs. For travelers eager to deeply experience Nara's Tang-inspired ancient charm and explore the lineage of Tang Dynasty Buddhist culture in Japan, Toyoko Inn Nara is undoubtedly an ideal choice. Here, history and modernity blend seamlessly; every outing becomes a cultural encounter, and every return offers the comfort of home."

"Conveniently located near Kintetsu-Nara station. The place looks a tad old with some wear-and-tear, and the wooden tiles in my room made a creaking sound whenever being stepped on. Soundproofing was pretty bad – I could hear people walking along the corridor, and voices and sounds coming from neighbours above and below. Staff did not provide clear instructions on how to self-checkout, i.e. where to place the key as there was no indication around the front desk which was unmanned in the early hours of the morning."

"The room was spacious enough to open a large suitcase, and there was even a small walk-in closet. The bedding was incredibly comfortable and warm, ensuring a peaceful night's sleep! The service was excellent; unlike some hotels in Osaka, the front desk staff didn't ask for tips upfront. When I left something at the front desk, the gentleman immediately called to ask about it and even arranged for the elevator to wait on my floor. The location is fantastic, very close to all the nearby attractions, and within walking distance! A truly great experience!!"

Trip.BestNo. 1 of Cultural Hotels in Nara City
"We stayed at Mikasa Ryokan (万葉若草の宿 三笠旅館) in Nara, and overall it was a great experience — but there are definitely some things you should know and plan for in advance. 🏞 1. Location & Transportation The ryokan is located halfway up Mount Wakakusa, with beautiful views over Nara city — the scenery is stunning, especially at night. But getting up and down the mountain isn’t very convenient. At first, I thought the location was right near Todai-ji Temple and would be easy to access. Turns out: The mountain road is very narrow and winding, and it actually takes longer than expected. According to the staff, walking up the mountain is not allowed. There's a gate, and the staff inside don’t permit people to walk up. Luckily, the hotel offers a shuttle bus up the mountain, but you should arrange it with the hotel in advance. Once you’re at the ryokan, getting out isn’t very easy either. Even if you want to take a taxi, you need to book it in advance — it’s not like calling a cab from the street. So I’d recommend planning your itinerary carefully before you arrive. While Todai-ji Temple, Nara Park, and Kasuga Taisha are technically just at the bottom of the mountain, they’re not within walking distance from the hotel, so you’ll still need transport. 🛌 2. Room Experience We booked the Japanese-style room with a private open-air bath. I did quite a bit of research before booking: Sites like *********** say the room is about 28 sqm (307 sq ft) But Ctrip listed it as 56 sqm, which was confusing After checking in, I think 28 sqm is probably just the indoor area, and 56 sqm includes the balcony, private onsen, and garden area. The room is traditional Japanese-style with tatami floors and a low table in the center. In the evening, while we were out having dinner, staff came in and set up our futon beds for the night — a really nice touch. This was our first time sleeping on Japanese futons. It was surprisingly comfortable, and the room temperature was perfect. If you're traveling with kids, this type of setup could be extra fun. 3. Onsen Experience We tried both the public onsen and the private one in our room: The public bath areas are located on the first and second floors, with men’s and women’s baths alternating daily. They include both indoor and outdoor hot spring pools. The water is hot — after about 10 minutes, we felt totally warm and relaxed. The private bath in the room was also very enjoyable. The garden had high fences and trees for privacy, and the tub was perfectly sized for two people. 🍱 4. Meals We booked a plan that included both dinner and breakfast. One important thing to note — you need to confirm your dinner time with the hotel before arrival, because if you arrive after 7 PM, you might miss dinner. Dinner is served in private dining rooms, which gave us a cozy and quiet atmosphere. The food was beautifully presented and very Japanese — including Wagyu beef and sukiyaki. Breakfast was also very traditional — grilled fish, rice, and various small dishes. Personally, I prefer something lighter for breakfast, and there was no coffee, bread, or buns included. If you want coffee, you can get it later in the lounge near the lobby."

"The hotel is a little far from the JR station, you have to take a bus, but you can walk to Kintetsu Nara Station. The location is next to Toda Temple, and it is very convenient to Nara Park and other attractions. The hotel staff has a first-class service attitude, very attentive, fluent English answers, and patiently explained various hotel facilities and services. There are also small gifts for staying here, and the content of the gift is not spoiled first, but it is really heartwarming. In terms of room facilities, the open-air wind is very comfortable, and it is a great joy in life to soak in the weather with only zero degrees outside. The room was clean and satisfactory, the space was large, the 𧝁𧝁 meter mattress was also very comfortable, I slept well, and cleaned the tiredness of the journey for a day. In terms of dining, dinner and breakfast are both Japanese food, very exquisite, fresh ingredients, and a good dining experience. The stay was very good and highly recommended."

"The room was spacious, and the hot spring was wonderfully uncrowded and relaxing. Everything was very clean. There's free ice cream in the lobby, which was a nice treat after a hot spring soak! The hotel is conveniently located near tourist attractions, and it's about a ten-minute walk from Kintetsu Nara Station. The service was excellent, and there's free coffee and tea bags available in the lobby. The only downside was that the room wasn't very warm. In winter, cold air seeped in near the windows, and even with the air conditioning set to 30 degrees, it still felt a bit chilly."

AAnonymous UserHygiene: Yellow stains that had not been cleaned were found on the toilet Environment: Halfway up Mount Wakakusa, isolated from the outside noise. The overall design style is modern Japanese. If you want to experience pure Japanese living, you should pay attention to the difference Service: The service is still worthy of praise. The driver and front desk staff are very enthusiastic. They helped arrange the car to go up the mountain in the morning. It was very lucky to see 👀 deer🦌 on a rainy day Food: Most of the food arranged is made from local ingredients in Nara. The ingredients are not gorgeous, the taste is OK, and it is more down-to-earth

GGrew1234Overall, my stay was quite good. The hotel has a new and modern exterior design, and facilities like the gym are very clean. The room itself was tidy and clean, the bed was comfortable, and all the amenities were well-equipped. The location is convenient, with shops and restaurants nearby, and getting around was very easy. The staff were friendly, and the check-in process was smooth. It would be even better if the price were more favorable. I would consider staying here again if I have the chance.

GGuest UserThe transportation is incredibly convenient; you can take an elevator directly from the platform to the front desk, so there's no need to worry about wind or rain. Plus, there are plenty of convenience stores nearby. The hotel's own hot spring is open all night, which is perfect if you want to avoid crowds. The entire place is clean and tidy, and the room even came with a multi-port charging cable, which shows great attention to detail! Thumbs up! Breakfast starts at 6:30 AM, which is especially good for those who need to leave early. Check-out is quick and self-service. This is my second time booking this hotel, and I'll definitely choose it again next time I'm in Nara.

GGuest UserThe hotel is conveniently located near the station in a quiet area. You can walk to Nara Park and the nearest sights. The room had a teapot, tea, plastic glasses (which is uncomfortable), a fan, a lingerie dryer, bathrooms, lots of towels. But on the layer floor where the bed is very dusty. All the windows and curtains are in dust. Appended a photo.
