Property Description
Nestled among mountains and rivers, the ancient Huizhou village of Chengkan was first established during the Eastern Han Dynasty. Located on Zhongying Street (formerly an official thoroughfare), Wen Yu Hall’s main structure consists of two Ming Dynasty buildings: the former residence of a renowned Xin’an traditional Chinese medicine family and the mansion of a Huizhou salt merchant—both originally owned by prominent official and merchant families. These two buildings were designated as nationally protected cultural heritage sites in 2001 and 2008, respectively.
As a cultural themed boutique hotel, Wen Yu Hall showcases an exceptional collection of architecture, furnishings, calligraphy, paintings, and artifacts—all treasured possessions of its original owners. The collection features over a thousand pieces, primarily Ming-style furniture, literati calligraphy and paintings, exquisite artifacts, and historical documents related to the salt trade. Most items date back to the Ming, Qing, and Republic of China periods, with some pieces tracing far back as the Han Dynasty. Each piece is a true gem, embodying the elegance of antiquity, the beauty of time, and the rich cultural heritage of Huizhou.
The owner of Wen Yu Hall believes that culture is a world language. No matter you understand Chinese language or not, once you come to Wen Yu Hall, it will definitely be an unforgettable journey for you.

This hotel is absolutely amazing. Aside from the price, there's nothing wrong with it. I initially thought the old building wouldn't be soundproof, but it's actually very quiet. There are only two rooms per floor, for a total of eight. The staff are very welcoming, and the hotel offers guided tours, which the staff explain very thoroughly. The owner built the hotel specifically to showcase his collection, a true collector's dream. All photos are original from my phone: rooms 1-7, afternoon tea at 8, breakfast at 9, I forgot to take a photo of dinner, rooms 10-13 are the public area in the back building, rooms 14-15 are the courtyard, and room 16 is the tea room. Room 17 is the fish lantern show; the second fish on the left is me! (Photo taken by a user on a certain website; see the watermark for credit.)

I originally planned to stay in Chengkan for two days, but after arriving on the first day, I immediately decided to stay for another day! I was really attracted by the scenery of the hotel and the ancient town. The hotel's brothers and sisters were very enthusiastic. I felt that it was the best hotel I had ever stayed in. The transportation in the ancient town was not very convenient. The huge suitcases of the three of us were all carried by the brothers and sisters of the hotel. We were a little embarrassed because the suitcases were really huge and heavy. Breakfast and dinner were very good, highly recommended!

Super exquisite! It can be said to be 360 degrees of beauty without dead ends! The service from the butler to the front desk to the catering is super good, which can be regarded as a benchmark in the industry. If every boutique hotel does so well, there will be fewer troubles. The service and hardware are completely worth the room price, and it can even be said to be very conscientious. I will visit it twice.

A very perfect experience. The hotel is located in Chengkan Ancient Village and is easily accessible by high-speed rail. The hotel is an ancient Ming Dynasty house in a village. The internal facilities are modern, complete and full of design details. It is suitable for both ancient and modern times and is surrounded by art and humanities. The room was clean and comfortable. What's more worth mentioning is that from the housekeeper to all the service staff, the thoughtfulness and customer-oriented service awareness make people feel full of sincerity from the reception to the farewell. In addition, the food is delicious. It is recommended to have dinner at the hotel. There are surprises every day for breakfast, afternoon tea and good night desserts. The coffee in the hotel is also very good.

A very cultural hotel. The designer's design perfectly combines modern and ancient buildings. The boss's tea room is great. It is a good place to think about the present and pursue the past. It is definitely the best private hotel at the foot of Huangshan Mountain.
