Best Sunderland Hotels

Only issue was the cleanliness of the room

We had a wonderful stay at the Grand Hotel, Sunderland. The staff were lovely and very helpful. The rooms were clean and spacious. We would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family.

I visited Sunderland to attend the Offshore Wind North East event and selected the Magnum as a reasonably priced hotel as the other hotels in town were charging ridiculous rates. The hotel is easy to find next to a derelict bar restaurant with plenty of onsite parking which was free for residents. The hotel looks like it was once a Premier Inn and at first glance looks jaded. Reception is a bit of a strange set up but the room was clean with a nice comfortable bed, tv, kettle etc and a tidy en suite with towels soap, shampoo etc. I never bothered with breakfast as it was nothing appealing. McDonalds is a short drive away. All in all, good value for money on an overnight stay but don’t expect the finer things.

The hotel is opposite the beach and the view is very good. The room is small, but it is also enough, the furnishings are very retro and the bathroom is large. Free parking is available before and after. Downstairs there are Italian restaurants and bars, as well as a tea room. The tea restaurant closes at 6 o'clock in the evening, and the other two are 11:30. The soundproofing is not good. In the morning, I can hear the traveler next door. It is extremely noisy in the middle of the night. At 1 o'clock in the morning, the rock is stopped. . . . There is also a laugh. . . People who love to play are very suitable. The location of the hotel is quite convenient for self-driving tours, but it may not be convenient for non-self-driving people. In addition, the car needs to be parked at the stadium opposite, and there are many cars parked there during the day. The room is overall tidy, but the bathroom walls are a bit worse, but since there is basically no contact, it feels okay.

I have just returned from a 4 day Christmas Break at this lovely hotel, where I felt at home, from start to finish! Had a great initial welcome from Gino, friendly and efficient, soldiering on even though he was suffering from a horrible cold! All of the Staff at this lovely new IHG Hotel are friendly and approachable and nothing is too much trouble! The breakfast was amazing, cooked to order by the lovely Chef and served with a smile...my room was great, spacious and clean, with a great view of the Square and the twinkling Christmas tree. The location is brilliant, right in the city centre and everything is within walking distance, have never found so many cheap and friendly bars!!! Take a bus ride to wild and windy Seaburn and book a table to eat at the ” House of Zen” restaurant...the food was amazing!! Thank you to Holiday Inn, Sunderland- I will be back!
