Absolutely loved the room, bathroom was gorgeous, big tv, bed was comfy, AC was great and even had a fridge The toilet seat didn't fit the toilet correctly, mentioned it to reception who said they will look into it The shower was amazing, in fact I didn't want to get out of it. We went down for dinner on the Saturday night and this is where it let us down a bit. The food was lovely however when I went up to the bar to order the lady both times looked at her watch and said that the kitchen closes at 8.30pm. I went up both times way before them. To be honest I felt like I was an inconvenience. There was a party on and it felt like we wasn't as important as them so felt a bit uncomfortable. Breakfast the next morning was fantastic- plenty of choice. Left feeling full up. Didn't use the leisure facilities but did go for a look, gym looked good as did the pool (Pity there wasn't a jacuzzi but not a deal breaker). Plan on returning so will use the pool and gym then.
Quite difficult to find this hotel and a few more signs would be helpful. Having said that we were pleasantly welcomed and shown the way to the Brasserie. Bev, the lady in charge, showed us to our seats and we arranged to have 2 mock tails instead of the Prosecco. No problem with this. The sandwiches, cakes and scones arrived promptly and were very freshly made. The scones were light and fluffy. Bev made a very good job of running the dining room which was very busy considering it was a Wednesday lunchtime. Highly recommend and would visit again.
First thing I noticed was the excellent friendly service at the front counter. This service continued at breakfast the next morning, which was very nice - it was a menu-style breakfast where you order a breakfast you would like. Breakfast with salmon had a small supplement.
The room was mostly okay, although there were some stains on the bedsheet. Inclusion of earplugs was a nice touch as it is on the main road - I happen to like the city noise, but ended up using them to block out the noise of the fan (there is no air conditioning).
The bathroom had nice toiletries although we noticed that the cold tap ran hot for quite a while before it got cold.
Overall the stay was fine, but with lots of hotels available in Colchester it wouldn’t be my first pick to return.
Excellent

Lovely 14th century hotel, staffed by excellent friendly, helpful staff. Added bonus of free parking. Our breakfasts were included and were some of best we've had. The full breakfast is cooked to order and comes out piping hot. Much better than a hot buffet. Staff happy to accommodate personal preferences, example I dont like crispy bacon, and my 'soft' bacon was perfect. Yasmin was a delight, first thing in morning, cheerful, helpful and inflammable. Rowen was the perfect reception staff to greet new arrivals during the day. The young lady on reception in evenings was also lovely, friendly and helpful. Unfortunately we didn't notice her name. Rooms clean and comfortable, nice to find a fan, as it was rather warm during our stay. The complementary cookies on reception were a nice touch and tasty. It's a good 15minute uphill walk into city centre, which some people may find d a struggle, but there does seem to be plenty of buses running both ways.
The hotel is small, simple, there is a bus stop at the door, and it is very close to the town center. It is very convenient to walk to the town. The English breakfast is very good (the chef is an older woman, one looks at the restaurant, likes her). While eating and looking through the floor-to-ceiling windows, I feel quiet.

Colchester Zoo
SShae IslamSuch a nice zoo and very cheap entrance fees! Saw plenty and they even let you handle the slimy creatures on offer :o
Natural History Museum
BBubiiiA museum full of science, natural history, lots of kids, and the architecture is magnificent, it's worth a visit.
Colchester Castle Park
6636***62Colchester is the third largest town in Essex and the oldest capital of the United Kingdom. The Castle Park was built by the Normans during the Roman rule. The inner walls of the castle are made of yellow mud and red bricks. It is very primitive but shows the power and prosperity at that time. The park outside the castle is lush with grass and trees, and squirrels are jumping right in front of you. It is primitive, simple, peaceful and comfortable.
Green Island Gardens
易易茜韵楹The tea room in Green Island Garden is very clean and tidy, the food is fresh and not expensive. Especially the freshly baked loaf, before entering the vibrant colours of autumn, we were greeted with a friendly welcome, with beautifully built shrubs.
The Beth Chatto Gardens
易易茜韵楹Beth's garden feels calm, though not a large garden, with a small nursery to buy plants, and a tea room and gift shop filled with all sorts of interesting things. We spent about two hours, including an afternoon tea, and most of the garden was maintained by volunteers.
