"The hotel is a lot smaller than the pictures. The room is also small but has great shower and comfortable beds. There is no free parking, the reception will provide a voucher and you need to pay $7 to park next door. The hotel location is awesome, you can walk to most of the attractions. Breakfast buffet is great."
"In addition to the door can not be very easy to find, the hotel's internal facilities/staff attitude is not bad, especially there are similar sofa meetings on each floor. Continue to stay next time."
"The hotel is very tall, the service is very good, it is very convenient to go to the airport, the room is very clean, the restaurant food is more abundant, the breakfast is average, the environment is very good, overlooking the entire city"

"The hotel is famous in the local area, the facilities are relatively new, the service is good, the price is high, and the hotel will be selected next time. There is a shopping center around, but it is not convenient to walk. There is a very nice steakhouse near the road."

"It is a truly special place. But it is not a 5 star as claimed, its just a 4 star and just for minor things that cheapen the experience. One thing that irked me is that they have a coffee machine in the room but one has to go downstairs and buy pods for $1.50 each. This is cheap, small TV, channel guide is not accurate or changed. Having a price list for said breakfast items as simple as oatmeal is also ludicrous and takes away from what should be exceptional for 5 stars
the ambiance is wonderful as you feel as if you are staying in an art museum. Will stay again but do not expect a 5 star hotel. exceptional for"
"The hotel in the photos looks better than it actually is. Our room did not have any windows and you can hear everything from the hallway and the other rooms. The breakfast can be greatly improved. At the price-quality level, it recovers a little since it doesn't cost that much."
"Unexpectedly liked the furnishings of this hotel. Although there is no air conditioning in the room, there is an electric fan, and San Jose is not hot at night. Although the room is not big, it has everything. Although bottled water is not free, there is a coffee machine to make free coffee. The room needs to take the stairs on the 2nd floor. Breakfast is simple and delicious, with bread, eggs, rice, fruit, coffee, tea, and hot milk."

Great
JJessica I’dWe stayed in this hotel for one night at the beginning of our 11 day Costa Rica trip and then for our last night in Costa Rica to ensure easy transfers to and from the airport. The breakfast is great! Pool area and outside spaces were lovely even with all the squirrels eyeing our snacks. The rooms are large (high ceilings and bathtubs!!). Location is decent as it’s a 10-15 minute Uber down to the city center and cool coffee shop neighborhood. Very safe and clean. Staff were great.
VVerified MemberPlace is about half an hour taxi ride from the airport. We originally booked it since the listing here said check in was 1400, but were later emailed that check-in was actually 1500 and when we arrived at 1500, the host said they aren't finished cleaning it and we had to wait in the lobby. The room was nice, although we didn't find the bathroom to be entirely clean. Included breakfast only consisted of coffee, fruit bowl and toast with jams.
TTessa_assetUndiscovered gem of a hotel near San Pedro.
Pros: We were looking for a place on the lower end of the price spectrum that was a one night romantic getaway for two, that I could also use my free trip coins at toward the cost of the room. Preferably including breakfast and a swimming pool with jacuzzi 😉 Not much to ask!
We booked one of the cheaper rooms on the ground floor.
Before check in we took an Uber to San Pedro mall to do some essential shopping and see a movie. Then we checked in and I relaxed in the jacuzzi under the San José night sky while my husband enjoyed a full workout in the gym/weights room. TV with cable was great for my husband who enjoyed the football while I enjoyed the hot shower and relaxed in the bed afterwards. We had an amazingly comfortable sleep and a delicious breakfast in the morning of gallo pinto, fresh tropical fruits, freshly squeezed watermelon juice and hot coffee. A generous check out time of 12pm meant we had more than enough time to get our things together and leave when it suited.
Cons: Not many cons at this price point and value. The guy at the desk was a bit weird when we asked him for a second glass for water as there was only one in the room but not a big deal. We also had to ask him for the TV remote. The towels were a bit small like a mini dress on me after my shower. But good quality (with a third extra towel for the jacuzzi) and high quality bed linen. It also is in a slightly rough looking neighborhood but this is not a problem if you travel to and from the hotel by Uber or use a hire car (which you can park privately inside the property).
Overall impression: The other photos on trip.com and similar booking sites do not do this hotel justice - it looks far better in person. It has real character since it is a restored historic hotel from an era bygone, but that is why everything is such high quality from the bed linen to the floor tiles. Everything is also in good shape and freshly painted. There a little hidden nooks around the hotel that make it very charming. The breakfast area is lovely and the jacuzzi, pool and water slide were a real highlight. We WILL be back.
XXinxiangAMYYUThe location is great, the main attractions and Chinatown are all within the walking area, it is very suitable to choose a city check-in for a day trip. The Gold Museum downstairs needs to be booked in advance.
WWanggou123The hotel is located in the center of San Jose, half an hour away from the airport, but it is more convenient in the city. The overall hotel facilities are relatively new and drinking water is provided. However, if it is a weekend, the surrounding entertainment will be a bit noisy.
GGuest UserIn fact, there is no 5-star standard. The appearance of the hotel and the room is good, but it is too old and the room has a smell. The breakfast is not bad, there are many choices, the swimming pool is very beautiful, the garden also has a tropical style, and the birds are singing and the flowers are fragrant. It is very convenient to go to the city center by taxi. The customer service can help you call a taxi, and the price can be negotiated. Generally, it costs more than 10 dollars to go to the city center. The hotel has a free airport shuttle, but you need to make an appointment in advance. If there are many people, it is convenient to take a taxi. The hotel shuttle bus runs every hour.
JJeff CaplanIf you're looking to explore San Jose, or have a basecamp for exploring the rest of Costa Rica, this hotel offers a great central location, situated right in the middle of San José. Good for walking to restaurants or shops in the city, or joining one of the several sight-seeing excursions which can be easily arranged by the hotel.
The rooms are nice, though the decor is a bit dated. The common areas are also well designed for lounging while reading a book or getting to know your fellow travelers staying on the same floor.
The breakfast buffet was fairly common for a hotel offering breakfast in Costa Rica, but good, and the area also doubles as a bar at night. Other amenities include a gym with free weights and a couple machines, along with two saunas, one dry and one steam.
MMarcelosabana studios are a a great and econimal way to stay in the capital, the only thing is that its very hard to find its location as when I went they didn't have any signage as to where they are. Please find out exactly the location of the office before you got as I got a bit lost and took me asking someone to direct me. I had no internet at the time so I couldn't call .One of the friendly locals used his mobile to ask about the location and that's how I finally found it. all in all it was a positive experience.
The apartment is located close to a nice park for walking and relaxing.
there are some options for food but you need to check the surrounding area on a mmap before blindingly walking out hoping to find an area where restaurants are.
LLady Kwenadi🌟 5-Star Review for Hostel Casa Colón, San José
I had a fantastic stay at Hostel Casa Colón — it exceeded my expectations in every way. The location is incredibly convenient, especially if you’re heading to or from the airport or bus terminals. The staff were welcoming and helpful, offering great local tips. My room was clean, secure, and surprisingly quiet despite being in the city. The common areas are stylish and spacious, with a cozy on-site restaurant that serves excellent breakfast and coffee. It truly felt more like a boutique guesthouse than a typical hostel. Highly recommend for solo travelers, couples, or anyone looking for comfort and value in San José.
GGuest UserBook only one night needed to be closed to the airport prior to leaving Costa Rica. I arrived too early to check in so I left my backpack in the storage and went sightseeing. Rooms were cleaned however my issues was with the cleanliness of the bathrooms I wish they were cleaner . Shower’s didn’t have any hooks or shelves and I didn’t have anywhere to but my stuff other then the floor. I found a very cockroach in the shower which was also gross. Bathrooms could definitely be cleaner and furniture could be less broken done. Definitely more on the budget friendly side.
