Hotels in Yanqi Lake/Hongluo Temple area, Beijing

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel for my girlfriend’s surprise birthday. The hotel kindly accommodated my request for a high floor, and we were given a room with an amazing view. They also decorated the room and provided a complimentary birthday cake, which was a lovely touch and genuinely helped make the surprise special. However, there were several issues that I feel are important to mention, particularly when staying at a five star hotel. My expectation was for the room to be close to perfect, but there were several visible stains on the walls and carpet, as well as dirty windows. These are details that I would not expect to see at a five star property and, in my opinion, should have been addressed before the room was given to guests. We were also disappointed to discover that some of the restaurants, including Views Restaurant and Kempi Deli, were closed despite still being listed on the hotel’s website. We had specifically looked forward to visiting these restaurants, so it would have been helpful if the website information had been updated. Another disappointment was the jacuzzi being closed. We had been looking forward to using it during our stay, but only the lap swimming pool was available. We also visited Brewery@Kempinski, which itself was nice. Unfortunately, the behaviour of some of the staff made us extremely uncomfortable. I understand that we are foreigners and may naturally attract some attention, but repeatedly staring at us, making comments and then giggling among themselves was extremely unprofessional especially when it was directed at us in. It continued to the point where I had to call the staff over and address the situation directly. Only after doing so did they stop and leave us alone. This was particularly disappointing from a five star hotel. Finally, we received a call from the hotel informing us that they wanted to give us a gift for our stay. When the butler came to our door, he presented us with traditional Chinese mooncakes. I thanked him and went to close the door, but he placed his foot against the door and then proceeded to ask for a tip. I found this extremely inappropriate. If something is presented to a guest as a gift from the hotel, I do not expect to then be asked for money. At that point, it no longer feels like a gift; it feels as though I am being asked to pay for something that was supposedly complimentary. Overall, we did have a pleasant stay, and I genuinely appreciate the efforts made for my girlfriend’s birthday, particularly the room, view, decorations and complimentary cake. However, I wanted to leave a truthful and honest review because these issues should not be overlooked, especially when paying five star prices. There were certainly some wonderful aspects to our stay, but there were also several experiences that fell below the standard I would expect from a five star Kempinski hotel.

I arrived around 3 PM, and there weren't many people. Check-in was very quick. There are three elevators: two for guests and one for service, so getting up and down was fast. The room wasn't very big, and the soundproofing was just okay; you could clearly hear people talking in the hallway. The hotel felt quite old, and one of the lights in the room wouldn't turn off. It looked like an old guesthouse from years ago. The bed linens were clean, and the bathroom was also fairly clean. The only downside was that the carpet was quite dirty. Under the bed, there was an old packet of KFC sauce, I'm not sure how old it was. There are restaurants nearby, and it's quite close to attractions like Yanqi Lake and Hongluo Temple. Its main advantage is the cheap price.

This is a fantastic family-friendly resort hotel located in the suburbs of Beijing. The overall environment is beautiful, and the air in the mountains is fresh and pleasant. The hotel offers a wide range of recreational facilities, including badminton and table tennis. In the summer, there are also small hot spring baths available. There's a good selection of room types, including tatami rooms and dedicated family rooms, making it perfect for family trips. The rooms are cleaned thoroughly and are very quiet at night, with good sound insulation. The service was attentive and thoughtful throughout our stay. We even received fresh fruit upon check-in. The food in the restaurant was delicious; I highly recommend the dish shown in the picture 👍. A small tip: the portion sizes here are very generous, so be careful not to order too much. We ordered quite a few dishes, and the waiter didn't warn us about the large portions, which unfortunately led to a lot of waste. The hotel's location is a big plus. It's very convenient for visiting Mutianyu Great Wall and Hongluo Temple. You can even walk to Banli Village (Chestnut Village) to experience collecting chestnuts with the kids, offering a lot of rustic fun. We stayed during the Mid-Autumn Festival, and it had just rained, so the humidity in the room was a bit higher, which is normal for a mountainous area. Overall, the experience was excellent, and I highly recommend it for family vacations around Beijing!

I used to always stay at the Aloft when I came to Huairou. The newly opened Marriott is a bit more upscale than the Aloft in terms of facilities, with larger rooms and better in-room amenities. The only flaw was that there was still a slight smell of renovation in the room, and while we used an air purifier, the effect wasn't very noticeable. It might get better over time, just like how the Aloft also had a renovation smell at first but is much better now. The hotel provided a lot of free snacks and drinks. We chose the package that included dinner for both days, and the overall quality was good. The highlight of the buffet was the desserts; the cakes, waffles, and freshly baked mooncakes were all great. Even someone like me, who usually doesn't eat much dessert, couldn't resist having a lot. The service was very proactive. Ms. Corrine Zhang at the front desk proactively added me on WeChat, acting as a concierge, and helped a lot. On the first day, we were late due to traffic, and she helped pack our complimentary dinner. On the last day, because my child was playing nearby and wanted to rest at noon, she arranged for a late check-out, which was very thoughtful. Overall, it's a high-quality hotel with great value for money in Huairou. I would definitely stay here again if I have the chance.

Had a two-day trip to Yanqi Lake and chose Yanqi Hotel, Beijing. The hotel environment is peaceful, elegant, and full of luxury. From the lobby to the outdoor grounds, every step offers a picturesque view—super photogenic! In the evening, there's a musical fountain, and it's nice, quiet, and not crowded. The kids' playground, spa, gym, and swimming pool were all open and fully operational. The room was spacious and spotless, with very comfortable bedding that gave us a wonderful night's sleep. We tried both the Chinese and Western dining options; the food tasted great with a wide variety to choose from. The staff were warm, attentive, and thoughtful—special thanks to Bingao! A perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city to unwind and relax on vacation. Overall, we were extremely satisfied with our stay. Highly recommended and definitely worth a return visit!

The room had floor-to-ceiling windows, providing excellent natural light, but I could hear people talking next door at night, so the sound insulation wasn't great. The hotel's swimming pool was a huge plus, especially with the children's pool heated to 35 degrees Celsius, making it perfect for families with kids. The location isn't far from any of the attractions in Huairou, and the hotel breakfast was decent. While there wasn't a huge variety, the pancakes and meat pies were quite tasty. The gym also had enough equipment for a good daily workout. 🏋️

The hotel is in a great location, just opposite the No. 101 Middle School. Although it is close to the highway, there are few cars. They also gave us a thoughtful reminder before check-in. The room was very clean and the hygiene was very good. The front desk service was very thoughtful and careful. Although we were woken up by the alarm on the morning of the second day of check-in, the housekeeper explained it in a timely manner and gave us many gifts (cleaning and care products, bear towels, key chains, etc.) to express our apology. The children were very happy. We can actually understand that. It was a pleasant stay. We will choose again.

The room decor, interiors, and amenities are quite new and distinctive. The mini-bar offers a generous selection of complimentary drinks and snacks, and the breakfast boasts a wide variety and delicious taste. The Executive Lake View room is located on a higher floor, with floor-to-ceiling windows directly facing Yanqi Lake. From the balcony, sitting on the lounge chair, you can take in the sparkling lake and the continuous Yanshan mountain range in the distance. In the evening, there's even a light show on the mountain, revealing its contours. Autumn nights are cool and pleasant, around 15 degrees Celsius. The evening breeze carries moisture from the lake, rich in negative oxygen ions, and is incredibly refreshing – a feeling comparable to a seaside vacation. The hotel also features a lakeside walking path and a boardwalk, offering an excellent experience for waterside strolls. Along the lake's edge, there are many elevated viewing stools where you can sit, daydream, clear your mind, and appreciate nature. There's also a 'Sky Mirror' photo platform where you can place your phone on a clear day to capture stunning photos of the water and sky blending into one. The hotel also has many staggered viewing platforms of varying heights, distributed in different areas. Sitting on a swing chair, you can relax and gaze at the lake and mountains. In short, the hotel's overall design largely meets most needs for a lakeside and waterfront vacation – it's definitely worth a visit! Aside from the slightly expensive dining and electric car charging, there are practically no other drawbacks. The stay included complimentary access to Yanqi Island, but unfortunately, due to an event on the island this time, I couldn't go, which was a shame!

The initial experience wasn't great, mainly due to the remote location. However, the experience improved significantly over time. It strongly felt like a young, well-run hotel, with its smart technology, stylish design, and attentive service evident in every detail. Breakfast consisted entirely of freshly cooked dishes, and even as closing time approached, new dishes were still being prepared for guests, with staff reminding them to collect their meals – the service was exceptionally attentive. The Bamboo View Family Room featured an open-air balcony, bathed in moonlight at night and filled with dewy morning air. The swimming pool, beach chairs, pavilion, and fish pond added to the charming atmosphere. If you're looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, this is a great choice – excellent value for money.

Overall, my stay exceeded expectations. The room was clean and well-arranged, and the bedding was soft and comfortable – just right. The front desk staff were warm, polite, and efficient with check-in procedures. Even the security guard at the main entrance was great, actively helping with vehicle adjustments. There are robots for delivering items. The location is convenient for getting around, with restaurants easily accessible right across the street. Good value for money, I would choose to stay here again next time.
