Haikou Urban Rail and High-Speed Train

Haikou High-Speed Train

Haikou does not have a subway-style metro system. Instead, the city uses urban rail services and the Hainan Island high-speed railway to connect the airport, major stations, and nearby cities. The trains are clean, air-conditioned, and easy to use, making them a convenient option for first-time visitors, especially if your hotel is near a railway station.

🛤️ Key Stations in Haikou

Some of the most useful railway stations for travelers include:

Haikou East Railway Station

  • Main high-speed rail hub in the city
  • Convenient for travel to Sanya, Wenchang, and other cities in Hainan

Haikou Meilan International Airport

  • Direct railway access inside the airport
  • Easy connection between the airport and city stations

Haikou Railway Station

  • Serves some long-distance and cross-strait routes
  • Useful for ferry-linked rail travel to mainland China

If your accommodation is close to any of these stations, the train can save time and avoid road traffic.

⏱️ Operating Hours and Frequency

  • Trains generally run from early morning until late evening
  • Frequency varies by route, usually every 10 to 20 minutes for busy sections
  • Schedules may change slightly on public holidays

You usually won’t need to wait long, especially during the day.

💳 Tickets and Payment

  • Short trips within Haikou: around ¥10–20
  • Intercity trips within Hainan: higher, based on destination
  • Buy tickets at station counters, ticket machines, or official railway apps
  • Payment accepted: cash (CNY), Alipay, WeChat Pay

⚠️ Things to Note

  • This is not a full metro network, so stations are spaced farther apart than subways in larger cities
  • You may need a short taxi or bus ride from the station to your hotel
  • Last trains usually run before midnight, so late-night travel may require a taxi
🎉 Pro Tip: Riding the bullet train? Check our quick guide on the China High-Speed Train for booking tips, routes, and smooth travel.

The Hilton Haikou, a long-standing brand for over a decade, boasts excellent and well-maintained facilities. The air conditioning is remarkably quiet, even surpassing many higher-end five-star hotels—it's simply superb! The hotel's location on Binhai Avenue offers convenient access to transportation. The room included several useful packages, and the breakfast selection was very rich. The guest relations staff member was incredibly thoughtful, having adjusted the room temperature to the most comfortable setting even before check-in. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling for leisure.

I was really surprised to find out that Mission Hills is so great for family trips! We were there for a competition nearby, so we decided to just stay at the hotel. I explained our situation to them, and since there was a room available, they let us check in early at 12 PM. This was perfect because my child could have a nap before the competition. In the evening, we went straight to the amusement park and played until closing. Then, we had the hotel buffet, and it was a great deal since kids under 1.2 meters eat free. After dinner, we went for a hot spring bath. The next morning, after breakfast, we had planned to go to the Squirrel Park, but my child didn't want to leave the ball pit in the kids' play area, and then we went on the mini-train. It was a super packed and fun two days! Traveling during the off-season, despite the heat, I really appreciated the convenient and thoughtful service at the accommodation.

Overall, my stay was fantastic! The hotel environment was comfortable and spotless, making the entire check-in process smooth and worry-free. My concierge, Zirong, even shared duty-free vouchers, which saved me a good amount of money. The support decorations I requested in advance were perfectly executed, creating an amazing atmosphere. Zirong was patient and attentive throughout, and any requests I had were handled promptly. The thoughtful and thorough service made this stay particularly memorable. A truly perfect experience!

This stay was truly comfortable. The room's balcony opened right up to a sea view, with blue skies, white clouds, and palm trees instantly lifting my mood 🌊. The hotel buildings were well-arranged, and the pool area was clean and tidy, with facilities well-maintained. The staff were friendly, and check-in was quick. The overall environment was quiet and spacious, perfect for a relaxing vacation. I'd definitely consider staying here again next time 👍.

The service was excellent, and all the staff were incredibly friendly. First, they upgraded our room upon check-in. When we noticed a strange noise from the air conditioning, they immediately sent a technician to fix it. They even offered to change our room if we weren't satisfied, which was very prompt. Second, a package arrived at the smart locker before we checked in. The staff, upon learning this, informed us that the locker was quite far away and proactively went to retrieve it and deliver it to our room. That was incredibly thoughtful! Third, even the cleaning staff were wonderful. They'd ask what you needed and were happy to help with any requests. However, there are a few drawbacks: First, there's no direct beach access from the hotel, nor is there a beach right across. You have to walk about 10 minutes to get to it, with one side being rocky and the other being the sandy beach. I'd recommend taking a Didi (ride-sharing service) because it's too hot and tiring to walk. Second, the hotel's recreational area isn't very large. While it's enough for younger kids, older children might find the facilities a bit limited. Third, despite the cleaning lady's friendly attitude, the room wasn't as clean as it could be. I mentioned to her that there were ants on the floor, especially in areas that weren't mopped due to the humidity, which was quite noticeable.

Holiday Beach/Wuyuan River Stadium Haikou|15.42km from city center
I originally chose this hotel because it was 'about to become a Fairmont,' and even though the sign outside no longer says that, my overall experience far exceeded my expectations. The hardware was particularly surprising: the hotel extensively uses carpeting, both in the rooms and public areas. Knowing that maintaining carpets in a high-humidity, high-salinity coastal area is extremely difficult (most seaside hotels opt for wood or tile floors – I still remember the indescribable smell at The Royal Begonia, a Luxury Collection Resort, Sanya), the carpet condition in my room this stay was excellent. It's clear they put a lot of effort into maintenance, especially for a hotel that's already nearly 20 years old (or even older?). Check-in was seamless (I didn't catch the name of the kind lady who helped me). There was also a follow-up call to the room after I settled in, which very few hotels do. While the hotel's pool isn't huge, it's very well-designed, encircling the garden with both deep and shallow areas. Seating is well-spaced out (unlike the packed rows at Sheraton, for instance), offering a genuine resort feel where guests can relax without disturbing each other. Swimming and sunbathing there were very pleasant. From the pool, you can walk out to the seaside boardwalk, which leads all the way down to Wuyuanhe National Wetland Park. It's perfect for an evening stroll or a morning workout. Coming back from a run along the beach in the morning and then soaking in the hot spring really brings on that holiday vibe. Even though it hasn't become a Fairmont yet, the hospitality lives up to the 'Royal Service' mentioned on the phone. Thank you for the hospitality, and special thanks to Megan for her thoughtful touch. For someone who loves carpets and a resort atmosphere, this is a place in Haikou worth relaxing at, and I'd definitely want to come back again.

This glowing review is dedicated to Jenny. From her pre-arrival communication (asking about special requests, sending a guide beforehand) to her assistance during our stay (helping with issues and coordinating a late check-out), she made us feel completely at home. I've only experienced this level of butler-like service when staying at B&Bs, but Jenny at Huacai truly provided a personal concierge experience. She was incredibly thoughtful and attentive! 💗 The complimentary travel photoshoot offered by the hotel was also excellent. First, the photographer's skill was top-notch; I was initially worried I wouldn't like any of the shots, but they turned out really well! Second, the two ladies at the studio were incredibly professional and provided great service, with no hard selling and clear, reasonable pricing. Experiencing the photoshoot on our last day before check-out was the perfect way to conclude our wonderful trip to Huacai.

I had a wonderful experience during my stay here. Every staff member I encountered was warm, friendly, and professional. A special mention goes to the team at the Langham Club on Level 42 and the bar on Level 43. In particular, Amber was exceptionally hospitable throughout my stay, always going above and beyond to accommodate my special requests and ensure I felt well taken care of. I am also incredibly grateful to Kevin, the intern at Level 1, who was an absolute lifesaver. He assisted me with my Taobao parcels, helped with my luggage, and even helped me make restaurant reservations when I was unable to do so without a local phone number. His willingness to help and positive attitude made a significant difference to my stay. So grateful to meet these friends during my stay in Langham Haikou. Let's start with the positives: The Ritz-Carlton's service is consistently excellent, and the hotel rooms are fully equipped with all amenities. The mattress was also quite comfortable. While breakfast wasn't extensive, the food was delicious, and the hotel offers a great view. Now for the drawbacks: The hotel lacks sufficient children's facilities, the pool is small, and the surrounding area offers limited amenities. In summary: Strictly speaking, it's not really a family-friendly resort. Next time I visit Haikou, I'll definitely choose a hotel in the city center.

The bed is quite large, perfect for families. The price is reasonable, it's quiet, the location is great for both transportation and shopping, and they even offered a complimentary coffee package – the pros are definitely obvious. However, as a family suite, there are a few things that could be improved: (1) Several mirrors face the bed, which made me feel uncomfortable sleeping at night. These include the mirror on the cabinet by the entrance and the full-length mirror behind the suite door (because of this, I didn't dare close the suite door at night, otherwise, it would be a full-length mirror facing us). (2) The hairdryer was too old; I didn't dare use it. It would also be great if they provided a step stool for children.
