Haikou Urban Rail and High-Speed Train

Haikou High-Speed Train

Haikou does not have a subway-style metro system. Instead, the city uses urban rail services and the Hainan Island high-speed railway to connect the airport, major stations, and nearby cities. The trains are clean, air-conditioned, and easy to use, making them a convenient option for first-time visitors, especially if your hotel is near a railway station.

🛤️ Key Stations in Haikou

Some of the most useful railway stations for travelers include:

Haikou East Railway Station

  • Main high-speed rail hub in the city
  • Convenient for travel to Sanya, Wenchang, and other cities in Hainan

Haikou Meilan International Airport

  • Direct railway access inside the airport
  • Easy connection between the airport and city stations

Haikou Railway Station

  • Serves some long-distance and cross-strait routes
  • Useful for ferry-linked rail travel to mainland China

If your accommodation is close to any of these stations, the train can save time and avoid road traffic.

⏱️ Operating Hours and Frequency

  • Trains generally run from early morning until late evening
  • Frequency varies by route, usually every 10 to 20 minutes for busy sections
  • Schedules may change slightly on public holidays

You usually won’t need to wait long, especially during the day.

💳 Tickets and Payment

  • Short trips within Haikou: around ¥10–20
  • Intercity trips within Hainan: higher, based on destination
  • Buy tickets at station counters, ticket machines, or official railway apps
  • Payment accepted: cash (CNY), Alipay, WeChat Pay

⚠️ Things to Note

  • This is not a full metro network, so stations are spaced farther apart than subways in larger cities
  • You may need a short taxi or bus ride from the station to your hotel
  • Last trains usually run before midnight, so late-night travel may require a taxi
🎉 Pro Tip: Riding the bullet train? Check our quick guide on the China High-Speed Train for booking tips, routes, and smooth travel.

The service at your hotel was truly impressive. From the moment I stepped into the lobby and received a warm greeting, every detail showcased professionalism and dedication. The rooms were meticulously cleaned, the food was excellent, and the staff consistently had a smile on their faces, always ready to assist. Whether it was the thoughtful advice from the concierge or the prompt restocking by housekeeping, I highly recommend this hotel.

The package deal offered great value, but requires a one-day advance booking. We loved it so much that we extended our stay for another day; our little one even cried when we had to leave, absolutely not wanting to go! On the downside, there are very few dining options nearby, and food delivery services are also limited. The water park downstairs closes early at 7 PM. The 'ice world' included in the hotel package is quite small and not worth a special trip. However, you can take the hotel shuttle bus to a different area for food and shopping.

The room is spacious, and the mattress is just right—not too soft, which is great for anyone with back issues. The hotel is quite close to Wuyuanhe Stadium and even closer to the beach. You can hear the sound of the waves at night, which is really soothing and helps with sleep. Breakfast is also pretty good with lots of options. They even have robots delivering room service now, which is a nice touch! 👍 The butler service was excellent too, very proactive in resolving any issues. I'd definitely choose to stay here again next time.

The room was incredibly spacious with a stunning sea view! The facilities were top-notch, and the breakfast spread was plentiful and very refined. The freshly made wontons were delicious. The hotel is conveniently located close to the cross-sea pier. To the north, there's a coastal road with a jogging path, which was popular with runners in the morning.

The room is spacious and has a large balcony. The hygiene is OK. There are plastic slippers without disinfection signs, which I think is not very hygienic. If there are disposable slippers, there is no need to worry about it. The location is very good, close to the port, and it is very convenient to eat and stroll around. Although the hotel requires a plastic ban, the trash can in the bathroom should be covered with a plastic bag for waste paper.

What a hidden gem of a hotel! The river view rooms offer stunning sunsets, and the city view rooms boast beautiful sunrises! The hotel environment is impeccable, and the service is exceptional. I had a ton of luggage, and they proactively offered to help me. The underground parking garage is spacious and clean. I booked a travel photoshoot offered by the hotel, but the guy I was scheduled with had a poor attitude and missed two of my calls. Thankfully, they managed to find another photographer last minute, so my plans weren't ruined. And that photographer was amazing! He arrived in 20 minutes, used a 5D3, and was incredibly professional. The photos turned out absolutely stunning; they were the best I got on this trip! Even the unedited originals were gorgeous! The swimming pool is huge and very beautiful, and there are two lifeguards on duty. The hot springs are incredibly relaxing!

I chose The Langham Hotel for my trip to Haikou this time. The lobby is exquisite, luxurious, and grand. When booking, I saw they had family rooms. When checking in on the 43rd floor, I asked the front desk if they still offered family amenities/decorations, and the lady immediately checked with housekeeping and arranged it for us. Wow, the front desk ladies are all so wonderful, very enthusiastic and thoughtful! They even gave each of my children a little bear (The Langham's signature pink bear). This stay was very enjoyable; I'll definitely come back next time!

I highly recommend Sofitel Haikou! The biggest surprise of this stay was the front desk service, which perfectly blended French elegance with the warm hospitality of the island. The staff were all smiles throughout, handling check-in efficiently and smoothly. They not only proactively confirmed my booking information but also meticulously explained the room's smart facilities, Wi-Fi connection methods, and even thoughtfully provided a local Haikou travel guide. Seeing that I had a child, they immediately arranged children's toiletries and even kindly upgraded us to a high-floor sea view room. Check-out was equally convenient and efficient, and they enthusiastically recommended authentic local dishes and sightseeing routes. This professional and heartwarming five-star service made the entire trip incredibly enjoyable. I will definitely choose this hotel again next time I visit Haikou!

Location: Excellent. Very convenient for getting around, right in the heart of Haikou city. Value for Money: Fantastic. Booked it for just over 200, and it even comes with a really nice pool. Facilities: A bit dated. During our two-day stay, only one elevator was operational, leading to lengthy waits. Service: Excellent and very friendly. As a Black Diamond member, I was given a room upgrade upon check-in. Breakfast: However, the breakfast was truly unappetizing. Even at the sole live noodle station, you had to cook the noodles yourself...

✅ Pros • You can watch planes take off and land – a free ”sightseeing spot”! • The room was spacious enough, and the soundproofing was excellent; I wasn't woken up by plane noise at night. • The decor was standard and functional – clean and usable, neither amazing nor terrible. ⚠️ Cons • The hotel is huge, so it takes 5-8 minutes to get from the room to the elevator/lobby, which was tiring with a child. • The drain in the room had a bad smell, and it was quite stinky in the middle of the night.

We are 3 generations that stayed in a 2 bedroom villa that encountered many problems during our 5 night stay. There were 2 days where we had issues with the hot water, 2 different days when we had electrical issues (lights would not turn on or off in the master bedroom), 1 day of toilet problems, and some kitchen cleanliness issues as well. Our butler Michelle worked hard to help us fix the issues as quick as possible, but it was quite frustrating to encounter and not what we expected of a Ritz Carlton at all. I felt bad for Michelle who had to deal with our issues even on her days off and when she wasn’t around, we had to speak with 3 different managers (Peter, Arthur and Felix) on 3 different days… just seems like there were no consistency in their service even though the staff were well intentioned. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this hotel based on our stay.

Facilities: Very good! The rooms have that classic state-run high-end hotel vibe, and both the shower and bathtub were great. The gym, though a bit dated, was incredibly well-equipped and everything worked perfectly! The hotel's Chinese breakfast was also very generous! Service: The most important thing was being able to check in at 6 AM! My flight arrived in Haikou at 3 AM, and I got to the hotel around 5 AM. The front desk lady was incredibly friendly! Since I'm a solo pregnant traveler with a lot of luggage, she kindly helped me check in as quickly as possible. I'm especially grateful for that!

I had a lovely stay even though it was one night, wish I had actually booked a few nights but had just booked it because it was near the airport and would be convenient. The porter was helpful and front desk checked me in in good time and let me know all the necessary things and places I can go to enjoy the stay. I was very impressed by the cleanliness of the room and it was very comfortable. The view was great and a surprise is at that it actually shares common facilities with ritz Carlton which is next door. You can enjoy the gardens, golfing area, pool and spa. Overall a pleasant stay for us at this local hotel, which was one of the few that’s able to accommodate my wife and I plus our 3 children, in two connecting rooms. We stayed over 5 nights in this property. It served our purpose perfectly for a short stay at a convenient location served directly by a bus service with the airport. We arrived hours ahead due to changes in flight schedule, but the front desk was very generous and checked us in as soon as the rooms were ready, that's great customer service 👍 The rooms were large and well stocked with the necessary essentials including rubber slippers. There were 2 bathrooms+toilets as well as an additional standalone WC ~ more than enough for our use and made the stay even more pleasant. There was a large living room with an adjacent study area equipped with desk, chair and power outlets, that's shielded off the noise from living room - a great addition for those who needed space to get some work done. The hotel is located in a convenient location that's close to local food places and simple shopping. There's a supermarket in a building basement about two blocks away that's well stocked. You can even get a quick haircut for RMB15 in the same basement for those (guys) who don't care much about style 😂 There are LUCK IN coffee, Mixue, KFC, local eateries, street food, and restaurants all within short walk of about 200m. One thing great about this hotel is the bus transport serving Meilan airport that starts and ends at this property, costing just RMB20 per person per direction. Each hotel booking apparently entitled the guest one free ticket! We departed the hotel on this bus which took about 50 mins to reach the airport, as it made a few scheduled stops along the way and was driven at a slow steady bus speed. That perfectly solved the trouble and costs of having to book 2 taxis due to number of people and luggages, right at the hotel door step! One attraction of the hotel was the hot spring available in the bathroom via a large wooden tub, as well as one outside the hotel for guests. I saw some guests using the public pool which would involve walking out of the hotel in bathrobes and slippers onto the driveway and all. We’re not the hot spring type so no comments, but this feature may appeal to others. Some negative points that prevented the property having full 5 stars: - Erratic WiFi connection - the WiFi sometimes would have no Internet connection, randomly, it could be evening or even morning when everyone was sleeping and not many devices connected. As we had two rooms technically so there were two WiFi logins for our use. Sometimes one would work and not the other and at different times. Sometimes the connection would be lost halfway while using. It’s really irritating. We made multiple feedback but nothing had improved. - the property is really aged and a refresh is badly needed. It’s livable and generally clean for sure, but the decor, style and musky smell especially in the hallways, were unmistakable. According to the plague near the main entrance, the property was completed around the 2000s, that’s time for university graduation if this were a person😀

Facilities: The facilities are quite comprehensive, although some aren't the most state-of-the-art, like the lack of smart toilets. However, the overall room design is very thoughtful. For instance, almost every light has a separate switch, even for a painting or a shelf. Cleanliness: The hygiene was excellent, and there were no strange odors. The entire floor had a faint, pleasant scent that wasn't overpowering, which was very comfortable. Environment: The overall environment is good, but parking spaces are a bit limited. There were many Mercedes-Benz cars at the entrance, giving the place a business and executive feel. Service: The service was very professional, and the front desk staff were excellent. All the requests I made on Ctrip were met. It was a very good stay, offering great value for money. Restaurant: They also have three in-house restaurants with private rooms, and a dedicated server for meals. They even provide post-meal fruit, and the food tastes great. However, it's a bit pricey; a meal for two with three dishes and one soup was 398. The braised abalone with pork belly felt particularly unique and tasted excellent.

As a Trip.com member, I got a great deal on this hotel, paying just over 200 yuan after various discounts. Breakfast was included. The duty-free shop discounts offered by the hotel were pretty useless, though, as each brand at the duty-free shop seemed to have its own set of rules. The hotel provided traditional clothing for photos, which fit well and was very clean. The staff were incredibly patient and helped me take some lovely souvenir photos. One thing to note is that when booking on Trip.com, the hotel name says 'Qilou Old Street Branch,' but it's actually about 2.5km away from Qilou Old Street, not really nearby. Service: This trip gives the accommodation a full score 💯! Very very comfortable, Manager Wang Kaifeng arranged a very ironing, the service attitude is very good, and very thoughtful. Facilities: Very complete, there are some. It is indeed a conference hotel designated by the party and government organs, and it is comfortable and easy to live in. The things that I asked for at the front desk were also delivered soon, and I felt at ease 24 hours a day. Environment: The room is the feeling of an old hotel. The size of the room is also quite satisfactory. It is worth mentioning that breakfast is really a ceiling level, very rich, the taste is great, every day is full and then go out to play~ The location is really separated from the Sun and Moon Square by a road, and it is very convenient to shop after a traffic light. Disadvantages: Because Building 1 is relatively old, the sound insulation is not very good, and the snoring sound next door in the middle of the night can also be heard. The sound of the refrigerator is roaring after turning off the lights at night (there is no power after unplugging). The air conditioner winds against the bed, and it may blow a headache if summer comes (hope the hotel can improve).
