Haikou Urban Rail and High-Speed Train

Haikou High-Speed Train

Haikou does not have a subway-style metro system. Instead, the city uses urban rail services and the Hainan Island high-speed railway to connect the airport, major stations, and nearby cities. The trains are clean, air-conditioned, and easy to use, making them a convenient option for first-time visitors, especially if your hotel is near a railway station.

🛤️ Key Stations in Haikou

Some of the most useful railway stations for travelers include:

Haikou East Railway Station

  • Main high-speed rail hub in the city
  • Convenient for travel to Sanya, Wenchang, and other cities in Hainan

Haikou Meilan International Airport

  • Direct railway access inside the airport
  • Easy connection between the airport and city stations

Haikou Railway Station

  • Serves some long-distance and cross-strait routes
  • Useful for ferry-linked rail travel to mainland China

If your accommodation is close to any of these stations, the train can save time and avoid road traffic.

⏱️ Operating Hours and Frequency

  • Trains generally run from early morning until late evening
  • Frequency varies by route, usually every 10 to 20 minutes for busy sections
  • Schedules may change slightly on public holidays

You usually won’t need to wait long, especially during the day.

💳 Tickets and Payment

  • Short trips within Haikou: around ¥10–20
  • Intercity trips within Hainan: higher, based on destination
  • Buy tickets at station counters, ticket machines, or official railway apps
  • Payment accepted: cash (CNY), Alipay, WeChat Pay

⚠️ Things to Note

  • This is not a full metro network, so stations are spaced farther apart than subways in larger cities
  • You may need a short taxi or bus ride from the station to your hotel
  • Last trains usually run before midnight, so late-night travel may require a taxi
🎉 Pro Tip: Riding the bullet train? Check our quick guide on the China High-Speed Train for booking tips, routes, and smooth travel.

The hotel is surrounded by tons of restaurants, so you'll have endless dining options. All the in-room appliances work perfectly. Plus, there's an incredibly delicious coconut chicken restaurant right behind the hotel, less than 100 meters away – a must-try if you stay here! The room facilities and housekeeping are top-notch. The cleaning is meticulous, and everything is tidied up neatly. The staff are very polite. The buffet breakfast on the 33rd floor is abundant, delicious, and offers a wide variety of choices. The Guest Relations assistant even added me on WeChat during my stay, which was super convenient as they were always responsive to my requests. Overall, the hotel environment is quiet and upscale. This is definitely my go-to hotel when traveling.

Let me just say upfront, I'm not a shill, but out of all the hotels I've stayed at, Mission Hills Haikou's service definitely ranks among the top. Every single staff member has an exceptionally great attitude; almost everyone proactively greets you. The lobby staff were particularly excellent – they arranged breakfast and kids' club access for my child and even upgraded our room. Both the hotel's soft and hard amenities are top-notch, and the breakfast is incredibly rich and definitely deserves praise. I'll definitely stay at Mission Hills Haikou again next time I'm in Haikou.

Absolutely perfect! I initially thought it was an old hotel, but it completely won me over with its service and consistent quality. First off, there's the Kids' Creativity Park, offering all sorts of fun activities and photo ops for children. Secondly, I just found out it's part of the Marriott family of hotels. The staff were incredibly patient; I can't remember the name of the front desk attendant who helped us, but they kept my ID safe after I lost it, bringing me the joy of finding something I thought was gone forever. The Wi-Fi signal in our room was poor, but the 'little butler' (concierge) and front desk staff patiently came to our room multiple times to help us troubleshoot. The hotel is also very close to the beach, and you can even spot squirrels on the walk there. The kids had an absolute blast, especially with the sand bikes! It's truly the perfect hotel for families. I recommended it to friends the very next day, and they also stayed there for two nights the following Tuesday, reporting a truly excellent experience. Another plus is that there are lots of foreign children here, and everyone seems so happy and relaxed! Plus, they're very delivery-friendly; you can order anything you want, which is a huge bonus. It was a fantastic experience, and I might even come back for a second stay!

Among the many hotels in Haikou, I chose the Greenland Hilton, and it offered great value for money. Although it's not in the city center, getting around by taxi is very convenient. The pool is excellent, and swimming there is very enjoyable. You can walk directly from the hotel to the beach. My sea-view room had a dehumidifier, so I personally didn't find it humid at all. The view from the balcony was beautiful, whether it was raining or sunny. Breakfast hours were very long, which was a thoughtful touch. Rebecca provided all sorts of help before and after check-in, making this trip even more comfortable.

This stay exceeded my expectations; Marriott's quality control truly lives up to its reputation. The front desk service was warm and efficient, handling check-in quickly. They also thoughtfully informed me about the hotel facilities and local routes. The room was spacious and spotless throughout. The separate wet and dry areas in the bathroom were well-designed, the mattress was just right (not too soft, not too firm), and the soundproofing was excellent, ensuring a very restful night's sleep. The buffet breakfast offered a diverse selection of both Western and Chinese dishes, and the taste was spot-on. The gym and pool facilities were complete and well-maintained. The overall environment was quiet and elegant, making it perfect for both business trips and short getaways. Highly recommended! A special shout-out to service manager Vivian for her top-notch service! 👍

We booked a family twin room. You can get an unobstructed view of the sea from the balcony, which was lovely, and the air quality was great too. Although the hotel facilities are a bit dated, everything works perfectly fine. The food at the Chinese restaurant was delicious, but breakfast was a bit disappointing. However, the Western pastries were quite good.

We originally booked for two nights, but the kids had such a blast that we extended our stay for three more! The breakfast and dinner buffets offered a fantastic variety, and the lounge service was excellent. Every afternoon, the kids loved going to the recreation area for crafts and swimming – they had such a great time! A big thank you to all the staff in the recreation department; the pool staff were incredibly responsible, and the kids absolutely adored the craft activities. And a special shout-out to our butler, Jenny – she was super responsive to any questions we had, always getting back to us immediately. Both my room and public areas of the hotel were attractive and spacious.  It has a lovely location on the river with beautiful grounds lushly planted, a fantastic swimming pool that’s a bit separated from the young children’s pool and is quieter.  The hot spring spas were wonderful, especially the first one where hundreds of fish nibble away at the dead skin on your feet and extremities.  All of the staff were friendly and helpful.  One of the managers even noticed that I was a guest on my birthday and prepared a cake for me.  I hope that I can return one day.  Both restaurants offered good food and service.

This isn't my first time in Haikou, and I absolutely love this tranquil city and its relaxed vibe. This stay at Sofitel Haikou was exceptional, outshining the hotel I stayed at last year in terms of facilities, room cleanliness, and overall service quality. I specifically booked a sea-view room, and the ocean view from the window was absolutely stunning and delightful. I particularly want to commend the hotel's service: when I went to the front desk to get my room card in the evening, the receptionist was incredibly enthusiastic and proactively recommended some local, lesser-known fishing villages and specialty foods. We followed her recommendations and were amazed by the beautiful coastal scenery. Throughout our entire stay, every staff member we encountered was diligent and responsible, meticulously addressing all our needs. The attention to detail in their service was impeccable. I've already recommended this hotel to my friends, and it will definitely be my top choice again on my next visit to Haikou. The accompanying photos are actual views from the guest room.

The hotel itself is pretty good and quiet, but the humidity was so high that after sleeping for one night, I woke up with a backache. In the morning, I opened the window a tiny crack, thinking it would air out the room. To my surprise, when I came back, the entire room was covered in water droplets. I was stunned for a long time, not knowing what had happened. I spoke to the front desk, and they moved us to another room, explaining that we couldn't open the windows because we were so close to the sea – not even a tiny crack. They really should have communicated this during check-in, instead of waiting until there was a problem to tell me. Many people aren't aware of the weather conditions in Haikou. And what's more, I was traveling with a child, and the front desk didn't offer a single apology for the incident. Only one young man consistently helped me move my luggage and change rooms; I want to thank him. The staff at the entrance were also excellent; they always helped open car doors and carry luggage!

This is a four-star hotel, and admittedly, some of the facilities are a bit old. When I arrived in Haikou, it had just rained, and there was a musty smell in the room and corridors, which was a bit off-putting. However, everything else was quite good. What stood out was that the shower water was natural hot spring water, and you could even enjoy the hot springs from 2 PM to 10 PM daily.
