Haikou Urban Rail and High-Speed Train

Haikou High-Speed Train

Haikou does not have a subway-style metro system. Instead, the city uses urban rail services and the Hainan Island high-speed railway to connect the airport, major stations, and nearby cities. The trains are clean, air-conditioned, and easy to use, making them a convenient option for first-time visitors, especially if your hotel is near a railway station.

🛤️ Key Stations in Haikou

Some of the most useful railway stations for travelers include:

Haikou East Railway Station

  • Main high-speed rail hub in the city
  • Convenient for travel to Sanya, Wenchang, and other cities in Hainan

Haikou Meilan International Airport

  • Direct railway access inside the airport
  • Easy connection between the airport and city stations

Haikou Railway Station

  • Serves some long-distance and cross-strait routes
  • Useful for ferry-linked rail travel to mainland China

If your accommodation is close to any of these stations, the train can save time and avoid road traffic.

⏱️ Operating Hours and Frequency

  • Trains generally run from early morning until late evening
  • Frequency varies by route, usually every 10 to 20 minutes for busy sections
  • Schedules may change slightly on public holidays

You usually won’t need to wait long, especially during the day.

💳 Tickets and Payment

  • Short trips within Haikou: around ¥10–20
  • Intercity trips within Hainan: higher, based on destination
  • Buy tickets at station counters, ticket machines, or official railway apps
  • Payment accepted: cash (CNY), Alipay, WeChat Pay

⚠️ Things to Note

  • This is not a full metro network, so stations are spaced farther apart than subways in larger cities
  • You may need a short taxi or bus ride from the station to your hotel
  • Last trains usually run before midnight, so late-night travel may require a taxi
🎉 Pro Tip: Riding the bullet train? Check our quick guide on the China High-Speed Train for booking tips, routes, and smooth travel.

The hotel environment is fantastic! There are plenty of facilities and activities, the bedding is clean and high-quality, and the room is quiet. The staff are enthusiastic, and I especially want to commend the dedicated hotel guest relations小姐姐 (Miss) from Trip.com for this stay. She contacted me by phone upon check-in and was responsive to all my needs throughout my stay. It was a perfect accommodation experience.

We booked this hotel for a golf trip, and it totally exceeded our expectations. The staff took care of our golf bags right at check-in, so we didn't have to worry about them at all during our games. The room was spacious and very clean. In the evenings, they even brought warm desserts, and the complimentary fruit was delicious. Beth provided excellent service; she was considerate and gentle. When we checked in, our rooms weren't ready yet. We had two rooms booked, and Arale (the staff member) was amazing, keeping us updated on their availability. They proactively arranged for our luggage to be sent to our rooms, which was a fantastic service. We also received welcome fruit! When we returned from going out, our room cards were waiting for us. Plus, when we had trouble connecting to the Wi-Fi, they sorted it out for us immediately. The service was truly excellent. We'll definitely be back if we have the chance. Thanks for taking care of us!

Stepping onto the balcony, you're greeted by a stunning 'jellyfish sea' – the ocean view is absolutely breathtaking! The breakfast offers a delightful mix of Chinese and Western dishes, with a mountain of Hainanese noodles doused in flavorful sauce, a local specialty. You can also enjoy freshly squeezed juices. The room is incredibly spacious with panoramic sea views from every angle. The Chinese New Year activities were really fun too. Our butler, Serena, contacted us in advance and even upgraded our room. She was so attentive and enthusiastic during our stay. I'd definitely come back if I get the chance!

I'm not sure if it's called Haikou State Guest House or Fairmont Haikou, but its location is excellent, with beautiful sea views. The hotel facilities are very high-end; you can tell it was a very upscale hotel many years ago. It also has a swimming pool. Both the breakfast and the paid dinner at the hotel were quite good, and the staff were all very friendly and promptly resolved any issues when called. The only downside is that the carpet in the room should be replaced; the entire room smelled musty, and the bedding was the same.

The room is spacious and has a large balcony. The hygiene is OK. There are plastic slippers without disinfection signs, which I think is not very hygienic. If there are disposable slippers, there is no need to worry about it. The location is very good, close to the port, and it is very convenient to eat and stroll around. Although the hotel requires a plastic ban, the trash can in the bathroom should be covered with a plastic bag for waste paper.

I came to Haikou to relax and specifically booked a seaview room at the InterContinental Hotel for one night. Overall, it was a very impressive and satisfying stay. The day before my arrival, the hotel called me to inquire about my check-in time and room type preferences, which was a much better experience than some hotels that assign you a bad room upon check-in. Upon arrival, the front desk staff warmly processed my check-in and clearly directed me to the restaurants and other facilities without any sign of impatience. The entire lobby was very grand, with both the decor and the views being very well-designed. The room itself was a pleasant surprise; it was spacious, and the decor was excellent. Most importantly, the view was absolutely incredible! Opening the balcony door revealed a vast ocean view, and watching the sunset in the evening was truly spectacular. The hotel's swimming pool is also exceptionally well-built, giving off a true resort vibe. The hotel's service is genuinely top-notch. As I mentioned, they called before check-in and also followed up with a call after check-in to ask about my experience. When I left, I accidentally left something in the room, and the hotel called to inform me, kept it safe, and sent it to the concierge. Both online and in-person, their tone was consistently respectful and enthusiastic. Now, let's talk about the downsides. Firstly, the room didn't have a bathtub, which was a bit disappointing, especially considering the price point and room type. Most five-star hotels at this level typically include a bathtub, but it was missing in my room. Secondly, regarding the hotel's speaker system: I had asked on Trip.com beforehand if the room had speakers, and their reply was no. However, when I arrived, I found that it did (?). The sound quality of the speakers was rather mediocre, which wasn't ideal for someone like me who enjoys listening to music. Overall, InterContinental Haikou is a hotel with excellent service, great value for money, and impressive decor and design. I hope the hotel can pay more attention to small details like the speakers, as it would greatly enhance guests' happiness. I look forward to more pleasant surprises on my next visit.

I had a wonderful stay at Weihao Hot Spring Hotel in Haikou. The hotel is very well located - close to shopping areas, restaurants, and just a short ride from downtown. The overall atmosphere is calm and relaxing, which was exactly what I needed after a long trip. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, with everything prepared for a good rest. The breakfast buffet was a pleasant surprise: a good mix of Chinese and Western options, fresh fruits, and hot dishes - something for every preference. One of the highlights of the hotel is definitely the hot spring facilities. The outdoor pools and the warm mineral baths are perfect for unwinding in the evening. The garden area around the springs creates a very peaceful environment. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay. They assisted with directions, transportation, and made sure everything went smoothly. Overall, Weihao Hot Spring Hotel offers a great combination of comfort, convenience, and relaxation. The hygiene inside was also very good. The hotel breakfast was rich and varied. Front desk staff LindaShela and MavisShela were very helpful and answered all our questions. Kevin Huang expertly handled our luggage arrangements, and the doorman always opened the door for us and assisted with our bags every time we left. Wow, this hotel room really hit all the right notes for me! 🥹 The crystal chandelier overhead immediately caught my eye as soon as I walked in, and the light luxury French decor combined with the delicate silhouette paintings on the walls really paid attention to every little detail. The bathroom was absolutely amazing – entirely clad in marble, giving it such a high-end feel. The room was generally clean and tidy, but the 'Executive Sea View Bayfront' room we booked didn't offer any particularly special views. The hotel's location is good, very close to the Cloudscape Library, making it nice for a run or bike ride along the way. The executive lounge service was excellent. However, the hotel doesn't have a heated pool, and the toilet in the room isn't smart, so some details are lacking. The bed was also a bit small. As Haikou was our final stop, we decided to spend our last night in the vibrant old streets of Haikou. When choosing accommodation, the name ”Nanyang Museum Hotel” immediately caught my eye. It offered both lodging and the chance to explore exhibits, seemingly tailor-made to be the perfect conclusion to our trip. Upon check-in, the front desk, noticing we had a child with us, kindly upgraded our room. The location was incredibly convenient – stepping out of the hotel put us directly onto the old street, no need to travel further; we could immediately immerse ourselves in the area's culinary and shopping delights. However, the weather took a turn for the worse on our last day, with a light drizzle falling. I initially thought this sudden rain would disrupt our planned guided tour, feeling a bit disappointed. To our surprise, the front desk informed us that our guide, Ms. Siqi, upon learning of the situation, offered to give us the tour during her free time. This unexpected warmth instantly lifted the gloomy mood of the rainy day. Ms. Siqi's explanation flowed like a gentle stream, vividly bringing the history and stories of the old street to life before our eyes. She even took us upstairs to see guest rooms replicated in the style of old street shops. Each room felt like a miniature time capsule, allowing us to experience the unique charm of the old street in an immersive way. This rain-induced tour, far from being a drawback to our trip, became the most memorable and best-experienced perfect ending to our journey, precisely because of its unexpected warmth and depth.
