Haikou Urban Rail and High-Speed Train

Haikou High-Speed Train

Haikou does not have a subway-style metro system. Instead, the city uses urban rail services and the Hainan Island high-speed railway to connect the airport, major stations, and nearby cities. The trains are clean, air-conditioned, and easy to use, making them a convenient option for first-time visitors, especially if your hotel is near a railway station.

🛤️ Key Stations in Haikou

Some of the most useful railway stations for travelers include:

Haikou East Railway Station

  • Main high-speed rail hub in the city
  • Convenient for travel to Sanya, Wenchang, and other cities in Hainan

Haikou Meilan International Airport

  • Direct railway access inside the airport
  • Easy connection between the airport and city stations

Haikou Railway Station

  • Serves some long-distance and cross-strait routes
  • Useful for ferry-linked rail travel to mainland China

If your accommodation is close to any of these stations, the train can save time and avoid road traffic.

⏱️ Operating Hours and Frequency

  • Trains generally run from early morning until late evening
  • Frequency varies by route, usually every 10 to 20 minutes for busy sections
  • Schedules may change slightly on public holidays

You usually won’t need to wait long, especially during the day.

💳 Tickets and Payment

  • Short trips within Haikou: around ¥10–20
  • Intercity trips within Hainan: higher, based on destination
  • Buy tickets at station counters, ticket machines, or official railway apps
  • Payment accepted: cash (CNY), Alipay, WeChat Pay

⚠️ Things to Note

  • This is not a full metro network, so stations are spaced farther apart than subways in larger cities
  • You may need a short taxi or bus ride from the station to your hotel
  • Last trains usually run before midnight, so late-night travel may require a taxi
🎉 Pro Tip: Riding the bullet train? Check our quick guide on the China High-Speed Train for booking tips, routes, and smooth travel.

I stayed here two years ago, and this time it feels even better than before. The hotel is very well-maintained, with beautiful garden landscaping and a wide variety of hot springs, which are relatively clean. The hotel offers great value for money and is a perfect place for relaxation. I'll definitely come back again!

The extended breakfast until noon during Chinese New Year was an absolute lifesaver for late risers like me! Being able to sleep in and then grab breakfast without any rush was fantastic. While the hotel is a bit older, it's still very convenient and comfortable. The pool has facilities for kids, and there are four hot spring pools. Staff were always present, and it never felt too crowded. A swim followed by a hot spring dip every day was incredibly relaxing. There's live singing every evening, and the hotel is very close to the beach, making it super easy to go back and forth. They even gave us complimentary popcorn! The buffet dinner was also quite good. Plus, there's an area for pets, which is a big plus for pet owners. My only wish is for more playground equipment like climbing frames within the resort – the kids enjoyed themselves so much they didn't want to leave the hotel!

Stepping onto the balcony, you're greeted by a stunning 'jellyfish sea' – the ocean view is absolutely breathtaking! The breakfast offers a delightful mix of Chinese and Western dishes, with a mountain of Hainanese noodles doused in flavorful sauce, a local specialty. You can also enjoy freshly squeezed juices. The room is incredibly spacious with panoramic sea views from every angle. The Chinese New Year activities were really fun too. Our butler, Serena, contacted us in advance and even upgraded our room. She was so attentive and enthusiastic during our stay. I'd definitely come back if I get the chance!

The hotel's location is excellent, with a beautiful sea view right from the window, and food delivery is available. During check-in, the front desk staff member, Wang Xiaomeng, saw we had elderly family and children with us and proactively helped us upgrade our room, which made our stay very comfortable. When checking out, Zhi Chao and Zheng Chaoyin were very efficient and professional. Moreover, Yana from the reservations department was incredibly helpful; she was still assisting us past 11 PM the night before our arrival, helping us find the best room and package. We are extremely satisfied!

The room is spacious and has a large balcony. The hygiene is OK. There are plastic slippers without disinfection signs, which I think is not very hygienic. If there are disposable slippers, there is no need to worry about it. The location is very good, close to the port, and it is very convenient to eat and stroll around. Although the hotel requires a plastic ban, the trash can in the bathroom should be covered with a plastic bag for waste paper.

I came to Haikou to relax and specifically booked a seaview room at the InterContinental Hotel for one night. Overall, it was a very impressive and satisfying stay. The day before my arrival, the hotel called me to inquire about my check-in time and room type preferences, which was a much better experience than some hotels that assign you a bad room upon check-in. Upon arrival, the front desk staff warmly processed my check-in and clearly directed me to the restaurants and other facilities without any sign of impatience. The entire lobby was very grand, with both the decor and the views being very well-designed. The room itself was a pleasant surprise; it was spacious, and the decor was excellent. Most importantly, the view was absolutely incredible! Opening the balcony door revealed a vast ocean view, and watching the sunset in the evening was truly spectacular. The hotel's swimming pool is also exceptionally well-built, giving off a true resort vibe. The hotel's service is genuinely top-notch. As I mentioned, they called before check-in and also followed up with a call after check-in to ask about my experience. When I left, I accidentally left something in the room, and the hotel called to inform me, kept it safe, and sent it to the concierge. Both online and in-person, their tone was consistently respectful and enthusiastic. Now, let's talk about the downsides. Firstly, the room didn't have a bathtub, which was a bit disappointing, especially considering the price point and room type. Most five-star hotels at this level typically include a bathtub, but it was missing in my room. Secondly, regarding the hotel's speaker system: I had asked on Trip.com beforehand if the room had speakers, and their reply was no. However, when I arrived, I found that it did (?). The sound quality of the speakers was rather mediocre, which wasn't ideal for someone like me who enjoys listening to music. Overall, InterContinental Haikou is a hotel with excellent service, great value for money, and impressive decor and design. I hope the hotel can pay more attention to small details like the speakers, as it would greatly enhance guests' happiness. I look forward to more pleasant surprises on my next visit.

Arriving late at night, a hotel within walking distance from the airport is always my top choice. This one is located just across the corridor from the exit, and it's quite easy to find if you ask for directions. There's a duty-free mall nearby, but it's nothing special. You can find some small shops for a quick bite. The room was quieter and less humid than I expected; I didn't hear any noticeable plane takeoffs or landings. Breakfast was pretty standard.
