Busan’s subway makes it easy to move between the city’s beaches, markets, shopping areas and transport hubs. The map may look busy at first, but the color-coded lines and numbered stations are simple to follow. This guide covers the main routes, fares, passes, airport transfers and useful stops for sightseeing.

Understanding the Busan Subway Map

The system is officially called Busan Metro, although “Busan Subway” is also widely used. The main network has four numbered lines operated by Busan Transportation Corporation. The wider rail map also includes the Busan-Gimhae Light Rail Transit and the Korail-operated Donghae Line.

You can view the latest routes using the official English Busan Metro map. Busan subway stations use color-coded lines, station numbers and announcements in Korean, English, Japanese and Chinese. Busan Metropolitan City also provides an official overview of the network.

Busan Subway Lines

Busan Metro Line 1

Line 1 is useful for Busan Station, traditional markets and the older part of the city. Get off at Jagalchi for Jagalchi Market and BIFF Square, Nampo for Yongdusan Park, or Toseong for the bus connection to Gamcheon Culture Village.

The line also reaches Dadaepo Beach in western Busan and Nopo, where Busan Central Bus Terminal is located.

Busan Metro Line 2

Line 2 is one of the most useful lines for visitors. It connects Seomyeon with Gwangan, Centum City, BEXCO, Haeundae and Jangsan.

You can also transfer to the airport light rail at Sasang Station. From Sasang, trains heading toward Jangsan travel through Seomyeon, Gwangan and Haeundae.

Busan Metro Lines 3 and 4

Line 3 connects Suyeong with Daejeo. It is useful for reaching Sajik Baseball Stadium and transferring to the airport light rail at Daejeo.

Line 4 serves Dongnae and northeastern Busan. Most first-time visitors will use it less often, but it can be useful for local markets, historical areas and connections around Dongnae.

Busan-Gimhae Light Rail

The Busan-Gimhae Light Rail is the main rail connection to Gimhae International Airport. It connects with:

• Line 2 at Sasang Station
• Line 3 at Daejeo Station
• Gimhae International Airport at Airport Station

This line has a separate operator and fare system. Busan Metro’s one-day and three-day passes cannot be used on it.

Donghae Line

The Donghae Line is operated by Korail rather than Busan Transportation Corporation. It is useful for reaching Songjeong, Osiria, Gijang and other areas along the eastern coast.

Use Osiria Station for Lotte World Adventure Busan and the Osiria tourism area. Haedong Yonggungsa Temple can be reached by taking the Donghae Line to Osiria Station and transferring to Bus 139.

Busan Subway Operating Hours

According to the official Visit Busan transport guide, the rail network generally operates from 5:00 AM to 11:59 PM.

First and last train times depend on the station, direction and day. Some late-night trains also terminate before reaching the end of the line.

Busan Subway Fares

Busan Metro uses a distance-based fare system. Section 1 covers trips of up to 10 kilometres, while Section 2 applies to trips over 10 kilometres.

Children aged 6 to 12, including foreign visitors, can travel free on eligible Busan public transport after purchasing a child transit card and registering the child’s date of birth. T-money or EZL Card

A prepaid transport card is the easiest choice if you plan to use the subway, buses, airport light rail and other public transport.

• Add Korean won to the card

• Use the same card for eligible bus and rail transfers
• Register the date of birth for child or youth fares

Single-Use QR Ticket

Single-use QR tickets are available from ticket machines inside Busan Metro stations. Select your destination, pay the fare and scan the QR code at the gate.

This option is suitable for one or two rides, but it costs slightly more than using a transport card.

One-Day and Three-Day Metro Passes

The passes are available through the official Busan Subway mobile app. The BUSAN Pay app also offers one-day and three-day QR metro passes.

These passes are valid only on Busan Metro Lines 1 to 4. They cannot be used on buses, the Donghae Line or the Busan-Gimhae Light Rail.

💡 Tip: At the standard adult card fare, a one-day pass may be worth considering if you expect to take around four or more Busan Metro rides in one day.

Gimhae Airport to Busan by Subway

Gimhae International Airport is served by Airport Station on the Busan-Gimhae Light Rail. The main Busan Metro lines do not enter the airport directly.

Airport to Seomyeon or Haeundae

1. Walk to Airport Station.
2. Take the Busan-Gimhae Light Rail toward Sasang.
3. Get off at Sasang Station.
4. Transfer to Busan Metro Line 2 toward Jangsan.
5. Stay on Line 2 for Seomyeon, Gwangan or Haeundae.

Airport to Busan Station, Nampo or Jagalchi

1. Take the light rail from Airport Station to Sasang.

💡 Important: A Busan Metro one-day or three-day pass does not cover the airport light rail. Use a transport card or buy a separate ticket for the airport section.

Popular Attractions Near Busan Subway Stations

Gamcheon Culture Village is not directly beside a subway station. From Toseong Station Exit 6, transfer to Village Bus Saha 1-1, Seo-gu 2 or Seo-gu 2-2. The route is listed on the official Gamcheon Culture Village page.

1. Search for your destination. Use Naver Map, KakaoMap or KakaoMetro to find the nearest station and correct exit.
