That was one of our best stays in Japan during this trip! The hotel is just opposite the JR station, bright and clean. Rooms are large and comfortable. Amenities and Drinks are made available to the guests and surprise: ice cream is free too! (My kids were living their dreams eating ice cream all day long!).
And the breakfast: high quality, great choice of tasty dishes and smooth service. That was a treat! Will definitely come back and stay longer!
These newer Daiwa hotel are best. We've stayed in Yamagata, Koriyama, and Morioka they're very similarily designed and decor. They're better then other Daiwa in other cities. Their moderate Twins allows extra sofa bed is perfect fit for our family of 4 to sleep comfortably while staying together. Everything is just perfect with these newer built Daiwa hotels if you can find a good price on them.
The location was absolutely unbeatable—right inside the train station, making it incredibly convenient! Surrounded by a wide variety of food options both within and outside the station, it’s a food lover’s dream.
The staff were friendly, and the room was spotless and comfortable. Without a doubt, I’ll be staying here again whenever I’m in town!
Very nice hotel close to ropeway station and Zao onsen town. Walking distance to the shrine, famous onsen bath and shopping streets. The room very clean, staff super friendly and breakfast and dinner spread are very good!
A Japanese-style hotel with a great location. The No. 4 cable car station is less than 100 meters away, which is very convenient for skiing. The hotel is quite old. Although the facilities are a bit old, there is no separate shower in the room (you can only take a shower in the hot spring public bath), only a washbasin and a toilet, but the overall style is very Japanese, and the food and service are very good. In particular, the hotel's hot spring is very good. After soaking, the skin is smooth. The open-air hot spring downstairs can also be bathed while watching the snow, which is really a wonderful enjoyment.
The hotel can provide short-distance pick-up and drop-off services, such as from the Zao bus station to the hotel or from the hotel to the ski lift station, etc., just call the hotel front desk. The hotel service staff mainly speaks Japanese, but can also communicate in simple English.
This hot spring hotel has a quiet environment and thoughtful service! The spring water is smooth and soothing, the rooms are clean and elegant, and the meals are exquisite and delicious. The friendly smiles of the staff make people feel warm. Highly recommended whether it's a couple's vacation or a family trip, I will definitely visit again!
A great experience, a hot spring hotel that you can't miss when skiing in Zao. The outdoor hot spring is great, the breakfast and dinner are also rich, and the service is very good. Because I left too early, I didn't feel the farewell ceremony, which is a little regretful. I look forward to staying next time!
Charming onsen hotel located 5 min drive from Kaminoyama station. A shuttle pick up can be arranged with the hotel ahead of time available from 1430-1800.
It’s a relatively dated property but well maintained. A small public onsen with a rotenburo, and a small private onsen within the room comfortable for two. The spring water through the property is the same.
Meals provided are extensive, balanced and nutritious featuring local specialities like yam, Yamagata and Yonezawa beef.
Drinks are offered at the lounge in the afternoon from 1700, morning coffee and tea available from 0800.
Overall a comfortable and luxurious stay.
can access the hotel from the station without going outside which is very good in winter. room window facing bldg hence no sightseeing but there is free sightviewing on top of the bldg.

GGuest UserSuch a WONDERFUL hotel I never stayed before. This is a new, eco, comfortable & beautiful place that I don’t want to leave. It is very suitable for any tourists especially for family, I will highly recommended & must visit again next time.
ZZoeAbsolutely lovely place. At first I thought I'd be uncomfortable with how spaceous the room was (I'm a very jumpy solo traveller), but the room was just so comfy with an excellent view. The heater was a bit hot, but there was an electric fan too, so all was great.
The hotel allows you to have a free 50 minute private bath each night, and the private baths are amazing, able to accommodate up to five persons and with windows to let in the light and stuff. Excellent onsen water -- very acidic and very hot. Takes some time getting used to the heat, but once you do it's a heavenly experience. There are also public baths (free of charge) that you could enjoy throughout the night and into early morning (they're closed for cleaning only during 9-12 in the morning), one indoor and one outdoor, both connected to one another. The outdoor one is a bit small, but it's so refreshing to be able to flee from the stifling indoor onsen to enjoy the crisp winter air while soaking up in the heat.
GGuest UserComfortable and relatively inexpensive hotel. Although the rooms are clearly not modern, but all kind, strong, nothing broken. Pleasant private free rotenburo. Dinner is very tasty, satisfactory, diverse. Free transfer to the bus station. Attentive staff. We are very happy with the rest in this place. If you ever get lucky to get to Zhao again, we'll be happy to stop again in this fairy tale place. Thank you so much!
NNetotrevinoWoah! This is one of the best ryokans we’ve been to. The staff was super attentive and could speak some English, the rooms were amazing (see the photos!). The onsen in the room was fantastic so there was no need for us to go to the public or private onsen downstairs.
The hotel is located 3 minutes away from the bus station and conveniently situated near everything. We’ve stayed at other ryokans but this one was top notch! We strongly recommend to stay at this place and will try to come back again with friends and family. Oh! The food was wow, too! We had breakfasts and dinners included and the sukiyaki dinner offered Yamagata A5 meat which was to die for. Breakfast was also great!
AAnonymous UserWhen I made the reservation, there were only a few rooms left. I sent an email to the hotel to ask if it was possible to accommodate three people in a room, as I wanted to add more people, but the hotel did not respond. Later, when I arrived at the hotel, I had to ask my friend to book a hotel nearby. Because the location is very remote and we arrived late, the room we bought included dinner, but the hotel was unwilling to give it to an extra friend to dine together. They were also very strict. Even if we wanted to pay, they were unwilling to give us an extra seat to dine together. They even wanted to kick our friends out. When we asked our friends to stay in the room, someone would come to the room and knock on the door to kick us out. The experience on the first day was not very good. We are very polite guests and we don't make noise or disturb other guests, but it is hard to understand how the hotel treats guests. Still keep saying だめだめだめ
GGuest UserThe four of us arrived at around 9am and followed the instructions to get a taxi. We first walked up the stone steps to the hotel to check in. We had three pieces of luggage weighing about 15kg, so two middle-aged waiters carried our luggage for us. One of them even carried two pieces of luggage in both hands at once and walked up the stairs, which made me feel very embarrassed. I have great respect for their dedication, but it is so heavy that it will cause strain on the wrists and shoulders and affect bone health. Why not do it in two batches?
We returned to the hotel at 2:30 pm. The room was ready and someone led us into the room and introduced everything to us along the way. There is one bedroom, one living room, two toilets and one bathroom. It is spacious and fully equipped. Except for the need to plug in the socket for poor electricity, we were given a floor mat in the living room at night. The bed and floor mat were comfortable and I slept well.
This is a very Japanese style hotel, well worth a try if you haven't tried it. We booked a package with breakfast and dinner. The dinner was all-Japanese, but I don't know what the cuisine was called. The service and food were good, and the tableware and dishes on the table were also unique. If you haven't tried it, it's worth a try. The breakfast is still Japanese style, average (see Figure 4). There is also a 24-hour free semi-open-air bath. If you book a private bath, it costs 2,700 yen for 50 minutes, and the last time is 22:00. There is a hiking trail next to the hotel. If you stay for two or three days, you will be surrounded by intoxicating mountain views and natural environment. In summary, it was a good experience. If I go to Zao again, I will still choose to stay at Takamiya, which has historical value and is well maintained.
Attached is the dinner menu.
ササンメイト1 night 2 day, to go to Sakata fireworks festival
I used 3 rooms for 6 families.
I was saved by changing the check-in time zone for this convenience. I didn't tell you that there was an elderly person, so it was a room that went up the steep stairs, so I learned that if I told you at the time of booking from the next time, I might be given a little preferential treatment.
Although it is a very old building, the exterior has been renovated and the inside has been cleaned cleanly. The corridor was shiny even if I walked barefoot.
I didn't use it because brown water came out of the water supply in the bathroom in the room.
I think it is better to bring earplugs when sleeping because I can hear the voice and snoring of the next guest.
There is no toilet in the room.
There was one bath for men and women, and it was a bath with a slightly larger bathtub and 3 showers for women. About 4 people entered at the same time. It was available until 12 o'clock at night. I could use it around 6 o'clock in the morning.
Breakfast was a dish that made the nutritionally balanced body happy, mainly vegetables, and it was very delicious. I was really happy with such a meal because eating out is the main thing during the trip.
After all, the rice is delicious! It was Tsuya hime that day.
It was a fluttering stay, but the host was very kind and kind.
thank you for your help.

SshawndaikiExcellent location short walk from Yamagata station.
A better location might be located on the east side of Yamagata station as there are more food and beverage and convenience stores available.
Dated property but cozy and functional. A man made onsen within the property doesn’t hurt. We also had a rental car and overnight parking was ¥600.
Complimentary breakfast however you must account for time and occupancy, we did not have time to enjoy it due to the lines.
Service was top notch. Hotel was helpful with directions and translation.
A senior lady went the extra mile to assist with contacting next hotel and even considered train timings as well as advising us to stay in Yamagata and not go early as there was nothing available in the next onsen town.
