Very friendly and welcoming, accommodating staff who are helpful with requests and a fab location right in the centre. Nice breakfasts. Rooms are exceptional value, albeit some areas / parts of the rooms are a little rough around the edges. Would definitely visit again. Thanks for a lovely stay.

What a great find this was! A very warm welcome by friendly but not over friendly, staff. We were shown to our room and given a tour of the facilities on the way. The room whilst being compact was spotless and very comfortable. Everything worked, including the air-conditioning which on the hottest day of the year was most welcome. Dinner was delicious, served again by friendly efficient staff. After a great night's sleep breakfast was virtually anything you wanted. It was well cooked, to order and served promptly. We have nothing but praise for this great little hostelry. We shall return

There is nothing to recommend about this hotel. New owners were completely out of their depth and couldn’t even cook eggs. Over priced supierier double room should have been £188 but we were charged £238 which is the price of their family room which we didn’t request. Price included breakfast. On the first day the breakfast was a joke. I ordered full English with scrambled eggs it took 90 minutes to arrive long after others recieved their breakfast. The fried eggs were obviously deep fried in a good depth of fat. They were burnt to a crisp around the edges. My wife’s fried egg arrived 60 minutes before by scrambled. The bacon was burnt on the underside and the toast overcooked. As a breakfast it was virtually inedible. The new owners were complaining that the kitchen was too small to cook breakfast. Our room was left unserved all day and when we returned no bed made no towels changed no new milk or coffee so not possible to make a coffee on the next morning. It was also not possible to have breakfast on the second day because the owners put a sign up saying no breakfast. This is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in and no apology from the owners for the lack of hospitality, over charging of room and no offer of a discount for the lack of breakfast. This was a disgrace. These new owners need to take some responsibility and offer me a refund given the over priced room and lack of breakfast on the second day and burnt breakfast on the first day. I paid £238 in stead of £188 and a refund of 50% would be appropriate given the dreadful service.

We had our wedding reception here in August . Things were great to start with and staff seemed helpful . As soon as we made payment things went drastically down hill! When we arrived our greeting wasn’t great, they also tried to charge twice for my best man’s room ! when we got to the room , it wasn’t clean, very dusty and bathroom smelling of urine. When we were setting our reception in the function room we were ignored by numerous members of staff,. The morning of our wedding we were totally ignored and had management walking in showing other couples the room although it was booked to us. again no acknowledgement or good morning to us ! The room hadn’t been cleaned or hoovered as agreed it would be ,We had to cloth our own tables as it hadn’t been done correctly it looked like the clothes had just been thrown on, Minimal effort ! When we returned from our ceremony we had the same stinking attitude. Who ever was serving on the bar that evening needs to be spoken to as they were still serving our guests even though it was very clear they had already had far to much to drink. Towards the end of the evening Richard a duty manager came in to our reception demanding for me to pay extra charges in front of our guests and my wife , how inappropriate and beyond rude ! This wasn’t the end of it, he then tried to take payment from my wife’s card on file unauthorised!! If that wasn’t bad enough, an hour later the night porter arrived swearing saying what a mess the room was, what do you expect after a wedding party and how dare he swear in front us us all ! They have also since added in all kinds of extra charges and again taken payment from a card unauthorised!! The full English breakfast was unbelievably greasy and we couldn’t even eat half of it and felt quite ill afterwards ..disgusting ! The staffs general attitude here is they couldn’t give a sh*t and they all need thorough training as none have customer service skills . I have worked in hospitality for 25 years and this has to be one if not the worst experience we have ever had. Currently we are trying to take this further with head office but surprise surprise after asking for head offices contact details we have be ignored Words are beyond us how disrespectful and disgusting the service is here Thank you manor for ruining what should have been such a special time AVOID AVOID AVOID !!!!!
The Cross Keys

We stayed overnight at The Cross Keys while hiking in Somerset. Our room was comfortable with very good storage shelves, interesting decor, and peaceful. We enjoyed dinner in the pub's restaurant (atmosphere, service, friendly staff, excellent food - pork fillet and game pie plus local beer).

We stayed here for 2 nights while at the festival. We’ve been going to Glastonbury festival for over 20 years but are now at an age where the camping experience does not appeal! We couldn’t pick up the key until the previous guests had left and the guy on reception was lovely and very accommodating. He gave us a call as soon as the key was handed in so we could get to the festival ASAP in the morning. Really appreciated this! The hotel is full of character, like stepping back into a medieval village or something! Really lovely. The rooms themselves are a little dated and could benefit from a freshen up but we were literally in the room to sleep and then out again. Bed was comfy but be aware the church clock chimes regularly so take earplugs if a light sleeper. There’s an outdoor key to get in the back door after hours but we were back before midnight both nights and the door was still open. There’s a car park right behind the hotel, literally seconds from the back door. Its £6.50 for 24 hours and you can pay on app. You could also easily find parking on a residential street nearby if preferred. Breakfast was great and always served very quickly. As a vegan I was happy with the cooked breakfast and provision of plant milks. Overall, the central location couldn’t be beaten, it's right on the High Street. The staff were lovely, great breakfast, no complaints, would definitely stay again.

The Ancient Gatehouse & Rugantino Restaurant

Booked into the Ancient Gatehouse in Sept 2023 for one night. Communication before arriving was very good. The hotel itself if very old and a most beautiful building. I have seen some reviews commenting about the smell and the stairs etc, which is rather ridiculous. The building is about 500 years old! This only adds to the charm. Views from the back of the hotel are stunning as it looks directly towards Wells cathedral. I forget her name, but the manageress was most helpful and very friendly. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed when we stayed so we are looking forward to eating there when we return in a few months time. If you don't like old buildings and creaky stairs then stay in a Premier Inn. We loved it, hence our return for 2 nights soon which we are very much looking forward to in a bigger room.
