My husband and I spent one night here as part of our honeymoon, and it was such a memorable and unique experience. We took the local bus up and only had to walk a few minutes before reaching the place. The hotel was beautiful, peaceful, clean, and quiet. We booked a private onsen and it was well worth every penny. We also added the dinner and breakfast package, and each of the meals were delicious. Such a special experience that I would highly recommend to anyone who has the opportunity. Also, make sure to try the local apples!

It satisfied all my fantasies about Japanese hot spring hotels.
Facilities: We booked an ordinary Japanese-style room with a bathroom, but there was actually a window, but the view was different. The room was considered large in Japan, but the door was a bit small, so there was no place to spread out the suitcase.
Environment: When I went there, the male and female hot spring baths had been changed, so I only experienced one. There was a large bath, a small bath, and an open-air bath, but the most comfortable one was the indoor bath, with the most suitable water temperature. There is no private bath that can be reserved, but it is better to go later. If you are lucky, you can get a private bath experience.
Service: Very good. The hotel has a car to connect Yudanaka Station to the hotel, but it will be after 2 pm. There is also a route to the Snow Monkey Park, but there is no route back from the park. The hotel is very good. When we just arrived at the hotel, we found that our bag was left at the station. The staff pulled me back to the station to get the bag. I was the only one in the car, and it was a complete chartered car experience.
Breakfast and dinner were very rich, and it can be seen that they were made with care, but I don’t like to eat raw food, so I just experienced it and didn’t taste anything different. There was also beef on the day I ate there, and there were many dishes, so it doesn't matter if you don't eat any of them. If you have enough budget, I still recommend trying it! ! ! You can feel the traditional Japanese dining

It was a very comfortable inn with everything we needed.
The only disappointing thing was that when I put on the yukata, there was a slight smell, and I wondered if the staff could tell when I asked for more tea or water during meals.

From the moment you enter Kokuya Ryokan, be prepared to leave the real world behind and fully immerse yourself in the experience. You swap your shoes for slippers at the door and don’t see them again until you leave. You will receive a warm welcome from polite and gentle-mannered staff, get taken up to your beautiful room, and once you’ve changed into your traditional yukata, it’s time to let the relaxation begin. The multi-course dinner will probably be one of the best meals you’ve had in your life, with many unusual textures and flavors to try. The futons are comfortable, and your room is kept toasty warm. There are even skincare products to keep you pampered and moisturized between soaks in the onsen. Honestly, you won’t even need to open your suitcase while you’re there.
The staff will take you through all the logistics when you arrive, but there are some things that might be useful to know in advance.
- The ryokan sends a shuttle to Yudanaka station at about 15:00 to collect new arrivals, so time your journey to take advantage of this benefit.
- The ryokan also offers guests the opportunity to catch a shuttle to the Snow Monkey Park immediately after breakfast the next morning.
- After you leave the ryokan, they will take your luggage down to the coffee shop opposite the station, so you don’t need to worry about those logistics.
- Trains from Yudanaka back to Nagano leave at 12:30 and 15:30.
- The ryokan itself has several private onsens that you can reserve for a 45-minute slot. Because the onsens are on the property, you can go in with your partner or travel companions regardless of gender. It’s a boutique hotel, so you don’t have to worry about not getting access to all the onsens you want.
- The ryokan is on the main road of the Shibu Onsen town. The hotel will give you a key so you can wonder down the main road, visiting any of the public onsens you wish - however, with so many gorgeous and more private onsens in the hotel itself, you probably won’t have time or the desire for this.
- Also, there is a coffee machine in the room! (I was worried about having to survive without coffee, and this turned out to be an unfounded concern).
We had an incredible and totally indulgent time at Kokuya. Experiencing a traditional ryokan is a privilege that you should try at least once if you can. And adding the Snow Monkeys in give the trip a double purpose, making it that much more memorable. The only thing that would have made the trip better is if we had been allowed to linger longer over every course of our dinner.

It's a 10 mins walk uphill from train station so maybe better to try to contact them for a complimentary pick up.
The place is super grand and 2 onsens. A Instagram worthy one that the males and females get to use it at different timings. The shower stuff in the onsen are mediocre though. No fancy facial stuff for women unlike some other onsens at this price range.
We had breakfast and dinner for the 2 nights. And well worth it. But you have to follow a fixed timing and we felt a bit rushed but otherwise it was really great and service perfect.
We had one the biggest rooms I believe Room 716. Had a sitting area and also a sleeping area. Easily fits 8 persons. We were only 2. In the day they kept the futons and brought it out at night. Towels changed every night.
There is a van that goes straight to Mount Yokoteyama ski resort. The receptionist didn't seem to know about it but you could try to Google. It was a complimentary ride to and fro if you bought the lift tickets. Took only like 30 mins to get there. You can get rentals at hotels there.

The hotel is elegantly decorated, with exquisite furnishings and a very Japanese style.
The hotel is about 500 meters away from Yudanaka Station. It is not in the same location as the Shibu Onsen Street and the hotel group near Yudanaka Station. It is a slightly deserted location. This Japanese-style river view room has a large area, is very warm in the room, and the window view is also unique. The room facilities are also complete, and there are drinks and snacks for check-in.
However, the Japanese tatami feels a bit hard, and the pillow feels bumpy when sleeping. The sound insulation is poor, and you can hear footsteps upstairs.
The breakfast is relatively rich, but there are more Japanese meals, and I am not used to it.
The overall feeling is still good.

It's close to Yudanaka Station. If you go about 200 meters from the hotel, there is a bus stop on the Yudanaka side.
Easy transportation to Shigagogen Ski Resort and Snow Monkey
There is a convenience store near 100 meters, and there are not many doors in the surrounding shops, so there is nothing to see
But there's plenty of hot springs in the hotel, and there's an amusement room.
There's a massage machine, so you can have fun inside.
The food is buffet, but I'm so delicious at dinner.
I can't forget that you can eat beer and sake in unlimited wine for dinner !! 👍
Most of them are family-oriented and friends, so there are many elderly people.
Ski resort and hot springs together
Recommended here to enjoy !!!
The staff were friendly and nice 👍

This was my first time staying in this area, but the landlady was very polite and explained everything in detail, which was very helpful.
The indoor and outdoor baths were very comfortable, and it was a very satisfying hot spring trip.
Dinner and breakfast were also delicious, and I was very satisfied.
The location (cobblestone road) was attractive, as it allowed me to experience the atmosphere of a hot spring town. There are nine outdoor baths, and I regret that I was unable to visit them all.

Trip.com There are too few reviews of this hotel, let me introduce it in detail
Skiing: The hotel is at the foot of the Xiongzhitang ski resort. It takes 5 minutes to walk. You can go directly to the door when you slide back. There is a bus at the entrance of the hotel. Take 2 stops to Hengshou Mountain (walk for 10 minutes), and take 25 minutes to the mountain station. It is one of the two ski resorts in the Hengshou Mountain area. If you come to Shiga Plateau for the first time, you may go to the Oshiga area a little farther. If you are an old hand, you want to experience the beauty of the snow-capped mountains of Hengshou Mountain. You can rest assured to stay. Xiongzhitang also has a night scene, which can increase some happiness at night.
Dining: The order contains breakfast and dinner set, breakfast buffet, you can eat very full, there are coffee, apple juice, milk, there are also various salads, ham, bread, natto, dinner is a set meal, every night is different, meat is not much, but enough to eat, if not enough, you can add money to upgrade the package or a la carte, Most of the seafood for dinner, there is at least one hot pot every day, dinner starts at 6 o'clock, and you can seamlessly connect to the night skiing of Xiongzhitang.
Facilities: fixed and Western (two single beds), the bed is very soft, but not too big, if you can accept tatami, you can also try, but every day skiing back, but also squat in place, it is really tiring and tatami will be harder, there is no refrigerator in the house, you can put drinks in the mezzanine window, There is a small TV, but it has never been opened. The bathroom is separated from wet and dry. The bathroom area is relatively large. There is a storage area in the house. You can put snowpacks and other items. The charging plug is also very complete. Because this is a gas stove, all kinds of electrical appliances are recommended to go to the hot spring to avoid tripping. The bed is very soft, the thickness of the sheets can be adjusted by yourself, and the comfort is no problem.
Hot springs: the most famous green hot springs nearby, full of sulfur smell (other hotels are hot spring water from the outside of the mountain, only this one is directly covered on the hot spring eyes, very good) The bathing location of the hot spring is slightly cold, but the indoor hot spring is very hot. Men and women have outdoor baths. They will exchange positions at noon every day. The open-air wind can watch the snow in the sky to enjoy the natural happiness, or the snow can be used in the hot springs, on the side of the ice, the hot spring water has a great sulfur taste, very natural, with a good skin effect
Service: Most of the waiters in the hotel are Japanese. English is really not good (the elderly English is actually better than the young people). They have their own set of rules. For example, breakfast drinks cannot be taken away. There are two Taiwanese waiters who are very enthusiastic and will be very active to help you plan your time. Very friendly. There is a supermarket on the first floor of the hotel (not much to sell, not as complete as the supplies at the mountain station), a vending machine on the third floor (not too much drinks to sell), an automatic massage chair on the first floor (very popular), and a billiard table (but it seems that the ball is not enough), there is a mini museum, The hotel's other amusement facilities are really not enough, you may wish to experience the joy of skiing and hot springs.
Others: There are temporary storage for men and women on the basement floor (you can save the bag for another day after check out, and then come back to soak in the hot springs and return. The front desk brother will remind you to keep the bath towels, and wait for the hot springs to return together, very intimate), there is a stove to roast ski equipment, There is a drop of help, each room has its own storage cabinet to place snowboards, the space is not large, but enough to put two snowboards

CChentutu555⭐Geographical location:
Yudanaka Hot Spring is relatively close to Jigokudani Monuen, a 20-minute walk from the station. It should be noted that you can pick up the station before 5 pm. We arrived at 5:30, but the boss said we could not pick up. Although the distance is not long, it still takes a while to walk on the mountain road. You can also take a bus, which runs every half an hour.
⭐Service:
There are two shopkeepers serving you, and their attitude is very good. They will help you deliver your luggage to the coffee shop next to the station when you travel the next day. It should be noted that if you check in after 3 pm, you will not be able to make calls in the morning. I left something in the room. No one answered the phone after three calls. In the end, I had to go to the store to get it again.
⭐Facilities:
The room layout is relatively simple and the facilities are relatively simple. To be honest, the heating is relatively small and it is a bit cold at night. There is no shower room and toilet, and the sink only has cold water. Shower rooms and hot springs need to be charged separately, 500 yen. Public toilets (all small Japanese-style hotels are like this) are very clean, because there are few rooms and few guests, and you have never touched anyone else in the toilet. Anyway, the price/performance ratio is pretty good.
⭐Meals:
Our order included dinner and breakfast, but the portions were small and not enough to fill us up. When we got out of the station, we had to remember to buy some food from Lawson. There are no convenience stores in the hot spring street! Mineral water is not provided, and there is an additional charge of +100yen.
⭐Hot spring:
You can soak in 9 soups on the street, but there is only one key, so you have to go there separately. The private soup shop in the store is in B1. It is relatively simple, has a lot of moisture, and is not very clean. It is recommended to go to the public soup house. Although the boss said that there is no place to take a bath in the public bath, so you can only buy a private bath + shower, which is a bit embarrassing.
TTangVery nice place and wonderful service. Due to heavy snowing, we were late but they waited for us patiently. We supposed missed the dinner time but they were very friendly and considerate and everything were well prepared when we arrived under heavy snow with an empty stomach. They concered our safety over all other issues and gave us a very warmly welcome. The private onsen is free of charge and they offered the most juicy apples in the world for all you can eat!! A warmly and friendly hotel, definitely worth to visit especially if you are planning to visit the snow monkey. (5 mins car, 20 mins walk)
GGuest UserWe came to Shiga Plateau for skiing, we have been to Yudanaka four times, and we have lived in 8 different homestays. Daimaru House is the best one:
A The boss's English is good, there is no problem with communication (the boss is not good);
B There is a bathroom in the room, which is very convenient (most of the bathrooms in the homestay are shared and inconvenient)
C In the hot spring town, eating is very convenient;
D Going out is the station, it is convenient to go skiing on the mountain;
E Indoor and outdoor hot springs are large and powerful;
F The boss is very nice and provides pick-up/send-off/go to snow monkey park service (this is very important in Tangtianzhong, some homestays do not provide it)
In a word, come to Shiga Plateau skiing, choose Daimaru House is right!
DDzerittoWe really enjoyed the experience of staying at the ryokan.
Friendly hostess, neat house. We were treated to tea and buns. The location is very convenient, near the train station.
There is a very beautiful pond with koi fish in the yard.
We enjoyed the experience of the public bath. There are 3 baths in the ryokan: 2 public and 1 indoor. I visited one public, the pool was outside, which created an additional atmosphere for this place.
We were a little puzzled by the early departure at 10 am, but the hostess kindly allowed us to leave our luggage with her for longer
CChuree WungWe are very impressed with the hotel service. The hotel makes travel convenient and smooth. There are pick-up and drop-off fromYudanaka Station to the hotel and drop-off at Monkey onsen. The hotel is in the good location,in the heart of Shibu Onsen, beutiful view of the mountian and river in front. The beer, white and red wine in the refrigerator in the room are free. The onsen is not very big but clean.Dinner and breakfast are fresh and delicious. Shibu Hotel is a very good hotel, worth staying.
WWoshizhangmiaomiaoIt is a very small town, very quiet. There are Chinese staff, very enthusiastic, you can ask them for help if you need any help. There is a wild monkey park nearby, you can go to see the little monkeys taking a hot spring bath. The hotel provides pick-up and drop-off, and there is a shuttle bus schedule.
GGuest UserLocated just within 3min from Yudanaka station, Raki Onsenryokan is run by a Chinese family. As a quiet town on its own, no one was tending to the reception when I arrived, after ringing the bell, a lady came down to help with the check in - very straightforward. I believe the family stays in the same building as they said if we ever needed anything, we could just ring the bell at the reception. Obviously I had booked a room too big for a solo traveller as this was the only room left as ”non-smoking”. Toilet and sink are at two different parts of the room which was a little inconvenient. Ryokan offers free drive (15min) TO snow monkey park, but not return, so please cater at least 35min to walk from park exit to the bus stop. Ryokan also provided a hearty breakfast, overall for the price paid it was a decent stay!
EElinaNikIt was brilliant!
It is the same with pictures on this site.
They gave me yukata and towel and changed it every day. I had a tea and enjoyed it on my balcony. I tried a futon at first time in my life.
I had my own reserved table for breakfast.
❗❗❗The hotel has its own bus with driver, which took me to the Snow Monkey Park and to the station for free!
Actually staff was so polite! It is seems like you are someone important.
Actually the only one minus that you can't go to all 9 Shibu Onsen's baths, but just to 9th bath only. But the hotel has its own bath even open-air.
It was really nice and comfortable accommodation.
LLIThe hotel is old and the food is of average quality. For skiers, the traffic is not particularly convenient, but it is better than the lotus pond or the ichinose. . However, the hotel service is very good, especially the front desk manager Zen, very warm, and English is very good, it is called the hotel's smashing.
GGuest UserExcellent location next to ski lift at Sun Valley. 3 mins walk to the local bus station with buses going to Nagano Station direct (express service) or Yudanaka station.
Room and bath room (2 basins and 1 sink) are spacious - we had 3 futons and 2 single beds for our family of 5. They may be a little dated but very clean. Room has a view to outside snowy forest during our time.
Highlights of our stay:
Half board meals - authentic Japanese! Big portions and lots of pretty and dishes served! Free coffee everyday in late afternoon.
Service was impeccable - the front desk lady (very friendly and excellent service disposition) , and the elderly folks who served in the restaurant - thumbs up!
