Hotels in Shi Road/Shantang business district, Suzhou

The location is excellent as it is near to 2 scenic spot 七里山塘 and 观前街. There are a lot of restaurants nearby with reasonable price. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They helped with the luggages, with delivery and etc. There are 3 washing machine and 3 dryer in the laundry room for the guests to use.

The room was exceptionally clean, and the traditional garden-style architecture was truly captivating. Our duplex room was impressively spacious with plenty of room to relax, and the beds were neatly made. The owner was incredibly kind and welcoming. The drinks offered here are delicious and very reasonably priced! Plus, they can be delivered right to your room, which was incredibly convenient. It was quite hot during our stay, so we especially appreciated the complimentary sour plum juice and mint water provided to guests – a truly thoughtful touch that made our experience superb. We even asked the owner for ice cups for our cocktails, which she happily provided – fantastic service! The guesthouse is conveniently located by the road, close to various attractions and convenience stores. On either side, you'll find authentic local eateries serving delicious snacks like Shengjian for breakfast. Both the Humble Administrator's Garden and Suzhou Museum are just a five-minute walk away. It was perfect to be able to retreat to the comfort of our room for a break when the afternoon heat became too much.

We understand that this is a newly opened hotel and perhaps they had never hosted foreign guests with a special visa (non-tourist visa) before. However, we had a very unpleasant experience. Around midnight, the staff nearly forced us to leave the hotel, assuming that we had overstayed simply because our entry date into China was more than 30 days ago. We are two women traveling together, and being almost kicked out of the hotel in the middle of the night was extremely stressful and unsafe. On the positive side, the location is convenient — only a 7-minute walk to the famous Shantang Road. Tips for future guests: the hot tub is on the outdoor terrace, but since the weather is still warm and there are many mosquitoes, it’s not really enjoyable. Overall, it was not worth the money.

I absolutely loved this hotel! Everything was perfect from check-in to check-out. The rooms are spotless, the facilities are great, and the front desk staff were super kind and helpful. Couldn’t ask for a better stay!

This is a tranquil courtyard retreat amidst the hustle and bustle. While its location is in a very touristy area, it's an unparalleled choice if you're here to experience Hanfu in Jiangnan. Pingjiang Road itself is quite pleasant, definitely better than Beijing's Nanluoguxiang, as at least 90% of the shops are genuine local businesses. Initially, seeing all the vibrant qipao styles made me feel a bit out of place, and I almost considered moving to the Niccolo the next day. However, realizing that all the famous old Suzhou cuisine restaurants were nearby convinced me to stay. My booked 'Elegant' room was essentially a larger room, but I received an upgrade during check-in, which was great, especially being on the third floor. The public area on the first floor had a somewhat aged, old-house feel, but the upper floors were much better. I was genuinely surprised and impressed by the Bvlgari White Tea toiletries. The slippers had a very distinctive Jiangnan aesthetic, and the housekeeper even gave me a new pair to take home!

Summer vacation had just wrapped up, and we finally managed to squeeze in a trip with the little ones. I stumbled upon the Huamao Gusu Courtyard Hotel on Xiaohongshu. It boasted a kids' play area, family rooms, a comfortable environment, and dedicated activities for children, while also offering adults some undisturbed downtime. We ended up staying for three nights, and the experience was absolutely fantastic! The kids were so sad to leave. We definitely hope to visit again!

Staying at this garden-themed hotel felt like stepping into a living, breathing landscape painting! We had a bit of trouble getting in when we first arrived, but the staff were quick to come and assist us. The moment we stepped inside, a profound tranquility enveloped us. It truly captures the essence of a Jiangnan water town, with a new picturesque view at every turn. Koi fish gracefully greet you, and elegant pavilions and towers are nestled amidst lush greenery. In the morning, opening the window brings the delightful sound of birdsong. In the evening, we enjoyed leisurely strolls in the courtyard and explored Shantang Street – despite the crowds, it was wonderfully lively, and you can even enjoy boat rides! The room design also beautifully incorporates traditional Chinese elements, with intricate window lattice designs that perfectly harmonize with the Suzhou garden aesthetic. There's even a subtle hint of Republican era (Minguo) charm in the design, featuring predominantly wooden furnishings that lend a wonderful sense of timeless elegance. We had an incredibly comfortable stay, and it was a hit with both the seniors and the kids! 💕

After considering many hotels, I finally settled on Houju Courtyard Design Hotel. I must say, the ambiance is truly delightful. The bathroom features a convenient wet and dry separation for the toilet and shower, and the toilet itself is quite smart. What's more, the room's voice-controlled smart assistant, 'Xiao Du Xiao Du', allows you to effortlessly control the air conditioning, lights, curtains, and TV on/off, making everything so much more convenient. The bedding was incredibly comfortable – soft, gentle on the skin, and ensured a fantastic night's sleep. The texture was truly top-notch! Once out of the room, a quick elevator ride downstairs brings you within easy walking distance of Shantang Street Scenic Area, and returning in the evening was also a breeze. Overall, choosing to stay at Houju Hotel, located on the 4th floor of Shangchengmen at No. 29 Shilu Pedestrian Street, was definitely a fantastic decision!

The Mercure Hotel is well-equipped and efficiently run. The hotel is kept immaculately clean, and all the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. What's more, staff are always on hand at night to assist guests with any requests or needs. The hotel lobby, situated on the 20th floor, provides stunning panoramic views of Suzhou city. Its prime location also offers great convenience for visiting various attractions, with Qilitang Mountain just a few minutes' walk away. The evening street views are quite picturesque, although it was very crowded due to the summer holidays! Overall, a truly satisfying stay!

After a disastrous night at a small hotel near Suzhou Amusement Land, where I didn't sleep a wink and had to search for a new place overnight, choosing a Marriott property was definitely the right decision. I called the hotel around noon before leaving, and they initially informed me that no rooms were ready. However, upon arrival half an hour later, they still managed to check us in and even provided complimentary tickets to Hanshan Temple on the spot. The hotel is admittedly a bit dated, but being over 30 stories high, it offers fantastic views. The elevators to the upper floors were remarkably fast. The room was carpeted, and given my child's dust mite allergy, the fact that he didn't sneeze once all night speaks volumes about its cleanliness. Despite its age, all necessary amenities and facilities were present and functional. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious – almost as big as the main room! We didn't use the bathtub, but heard from other guests that the hotel could arrange on-site cleaning and disinfection; we just didn't want the hassle. A thoughtful feature was that the room didn't require a key card to activate electricity; it had its own power card, so the AC wouldn't switch off if you left the room briefly – a much more convenient setup than what you find in smaller hotels. The air conditioning, by the way, was incredibly powerful; we had to adjust the temperature several times because it got too cold! Even the bathroom had AC. The hotel breakfast offered a huge variety of dishes, and there were always plenty of seats available. They even provided takeaway boxes, and many guests took advantage of it. One minor quibble was that the milk for coffee was room temperature, which wasn't ideal. So, I ended up ordering cold milk via delivery and asked the hotel for ice to make my own coffee. My child devoured three bowls of fried noodles, declaring it the best hotel breakfast he'd ever had. I highly recommend this hotel if you're looking for accommodation near Hanshan Temple; you absolutely can't go wrong here.
