"Great location with direct access to the lake, a sandy beach, but not a great value for money. Roof leaked after a storm, parking with unmarked spaces, indifferent personnel, broken mosaic tiles in the pool, very superficial room service."

"There's no air conditioning in the room on the top floor. The portable, noisy air conditioner in the room doesn't work either. The room temperature was 30 degrees Celsius and stuffy. You can't open the window because there were so many disgusting cobwebs and spiders right next to it. This is obvious neglect and a long lack of cleaning. There were also spiders in the room. The outside was filthy. Tons of cobwebs, trash, and a general mess. The terrace was filthy and dirty. Pluses were the good food and the location by the lake. We have very fond memories of this stay while traveling on our way to vacation. Simply a nightmare! We wanted to rest after the journey and regain our strength for the journey. We had a sleepless night in terrible conditions. I do not recommend it. We strongly advise against this place. Avoid this place. P.S. You can't access the hotel parking lot in the evening because the hotel is located on a pedestrian street. You have to pay extra for city parking. There is no staff at the reception in the evening and there is no way to file a complaint."

"We took 3 of our kids to Siofok this time and stayed in their suite, which is more like an apartment - about 100m2 of space: a spacious anteroom with access to one of the terraces, a large living room (2 full sofas with chairs) with a small bar area, from where you can get to the separate whirlpool room that itself has an exit to the second terrace running across all main rooms. A corridor leads from the living room to a wardrobe room, a small sleeping room (2 single beds), the bathroom (large, toilet, bidet, walk in shower), and the main sleeping room. The sleeping rooms, too, have access to the terrace. The suite was very warm - clearly the hosts are not compromising on comfort. The suite was neat and clean as well - great place to stay. The facilities are fabulous, too. The spa offers one big pool, a small baby pool, a whirlpool, and a smaller pool with whirls as well. There are several saunas (plus one ice pool) too. There is a cocktail bar, and the entire area is spacious enough never to feel crowded, even if the place is "busy". Breakfast and dinner are usually included in the room rates, and both offer a large variety of dishes. The quality of the food is outstanding, and so is the taste. You would come to this place for the food alone. Their selection of wines is very good and lets you explore Hungarian wines with pleasure. Last but not least - everybody is really, really hospitable and friendly, and very family oriented: most guests have kids, and the hotel also offers some kids' activities as well. This was a dream stay, and we will come back of course."

Balaton Colors Beach Hotel

📍 Szigliget u. 5, Siofok
★★★ 8.5 (11 reviews)

"A good place for the price; it was nice to stroll along the embankment. It's a 20-minute walk to the train station with a suitcase—not far, in my opinion, especially since the route is flat. Delicious breakfasts and dinner, wonderful staff. The downsides are the very loud noise; you can hear everything going on in the hallway and the snoring of neighbors in other rooms. Also, as I read in other reviews, there are cobwebs on the ceiling and walls. I also have some issues with the bed—it has a protective oilcloth and a small sheet on top, which causes everything to constantly slide and get out of place, and you have to adjust it to avoid sleeping on a sore mattress. The pillow also needs to be replaced; it's like a thin rag when you lay your head on it."

"Absolutely first class hotel. Family run. Spotlessly clean. Spacious room. Gorgeous private gardens. This is how a hotel should be run and such hotels are hard to find. I think we will no longer stay in four star hotel chains but look for three star family run places. It's really good here."

"A room separated to the neighboring room with a door, poor food, dirty. Service fee charged on each and every item. The kids place is very dirty (see photo) The spa separated for kids is full with adults. 4-5 stars to create magic for non-exigent people..Never again."

"We stayed for one night, excellent value for money. Clean but basic. Breakfast is almost exclusively savory, and starts at 8:00 a.m., not before. Parking is also available, which is useful given the location. Everything is closed out of season."

Residence Hotel Balaton ★★★★
"We've been coming to this hotel several times already, but only last year discovered they had a huge apartment/suite on the third floor. Since then we have turned into absolute *******. The suite offers a huge living room with several sofas, a run-around balcony/terrace, and an ensuite whirlpool. A corridor leads to a walk-in wardrobe, the bathroom (toilet, bidet, sink, walk-in shower), a master bedroom and another bedroom with two single beds. The apartment is kept very warm, which is really pleasant, especially when the weather outside is not so inviting (which was not the case this year, though). There are several playrooms for children and adults, and they always offer activities for kids during the day and early evening. Breakfast and dinner are in a dining hall offering enough place even if the hotel is fully booked. Choice is abundant: a lot of food of all varieties including Hungarian delicatessen, always fresh, always refilled, and always tasty. This place offers some of the best food in Hungary and is also one of the main reasons we love to come there so much. Add their spa on top of that. 2 pools, a whirlpool, and a small baby pool plus a few saunas (Finnish, aroma, infrared) with plenty of deckchairs to relax round off this place. Lake Balaton is a 5 minutes walk (and they have their own private beach in summer). Da capo next year!"

"It's close to the lake. However, if you don't have a car, it's hard to get there from the train station. Although there is a bus line, there are only around 3 or 4 buses in the afternoon. There is a pool and a hot tub on the ground floor. Its nice to unwind there. The breakfast is good too."

"Perfectly lovely stay. Probably not as upmarket as the website makes out - a lot of the facilities feel like they haven’t been updated in 20 years or so. But all perfectly usable and clean, and staff were unbelievably friendly and helpful (and almost all spoke perfect English, and which was a pleasant surprise). Food options were good, with standard basics each evening but also more local specialties. Lots of variety of meals. Location was strong, with a lovely view of the lake and dock. About a 15 minute walk along to the seafront, though there were lots of hireable scooters outside which made it much faster. Hotel itself was very quiet during our mid-June visit, which was nice. Dining space was almost totally empty so we never had to wait. The “spa” is really just a medium pool with adjoining kids’ pool and hot tub. Perfectly pleasant but probably closer to a leisure centre experience than a luxury one. Don’t think there were ever more than six people in the pool at a time, including the two of us. However the steam rooms and sauna are only used a few days a week, so weren’t on for the duration of our stay, which was a bit disappointing. Bedrooms were basic but absolutely fine. A kettle might have been nice but maybe that’s just my British showing! Air con in the room was much appreciated; we had it on around the clock. I would definitely recommend the hotel, but would advise not to focus too much on the “four star” part of the name, and instead expect a more standard holiday package hotel experience. My only other note is that we were plagued with flies while out on the balcony in the evening. Not the end of the world and certainly not within the hotel’s control, but it was mentioned in passing during checkout that we could have asked for bug spray at reception - keep in mind if you have a lake view room!"

"A very modern and appealing hotel, certainly one of the more luxury ones around Balaton. We attended to Balaton Sound Festival and enjoyed the comfortable and clean rooms to prepare before and reflect and regenerate after the festival. The pool and Sauna are very nice and clean, the breakfast was very good. A little let-down was the fact that the hotel insisted on an upfront-bank-transfer of the postage fees for mailing us the car-keys that we forgot before they would post them, which cost us 2 days without car-keys. Very strange when you spend more than EUR 1.000 at the hotel and then the hotel makes an issue of EUR 15 postage fees."

"It could have easily been a 5-star stay, because we really liked the design and the staff were incredibly kind and helpful. We visited with our 8-month-old baby and my husband. In the morning, the three of us went to take a shower. Shortly afterwards, red spots appeared on our baby’s skin — something we had never seen before. I then went to shower myself, and while washing my hair I noticed the horrible condition of the shower head. We had already seen that the shower tray was not particularly clean, so we wore slippers in the bathroom, but unfortunately I didn’t check the shower head itself. There was a huge amount of mold on it — in the nozzles, in the grout, everywhere. The toilet also only appeared clean at first glance; from a bit farther away you could clearly see the thick mold buildup. The staff offered to replace the shower head and arrange a deep cleaning, but with a baby our schedule is carefully planned around short wake windows, so instead we decided to leave early the next morning. To be honest, after seeing this, even a disinfected shower would not have made us feel comfortable staying. In the end, the whole situation became extremely uncomfortable because we felt we could no longer use the bathroom safely. We asked for a room change, but unfortunately the hotel was fully booked. We would have settled for using the showers in the wellness area instead, but those were not particularly clean either. Once you have a small child, you naturally become much more careful about hygiene. I genuinely felt sorry for the receptionist, because she had to deal with this situation despite being very kind and helpful throughout. The breakfast staff were also lovely. The straps on the children’s high chairs were extremely dirty, and honestly, I don’t think the chairs themselves are really suitable for babies. The breakfast was delicious, and the room could have been beautiful otherwise."
