Maistra Select Island Hotel Istra ★★★★

📍 Crveni Otok-St.Andrea, Rovinj

"The hotel is a super short boat ride from Rovinj port - the boats usually ran pretty timely and are included for hotel guests. The town of Rovinj is very cute Italian-vibes old town with plenty to see as you wander around. The pools were clean and well maintained. On the island is a water sports activity centre separate to the hotel, which we kayaked the surrounding uninhabited islands with, twice during our four night stay. My boyfriend loved the breakfasts each morning with lots of choice and was fresh and well made. Likewise for the evening meals in the buffet restaurant, although we preferred to go to the other restaurants on the island (not included in the half-board, but that's fine) I had never been to Croatia before, but my boyfriend and I would definitely go back"

"Before check-in, the hotel staff were very welcoming, asking for my email and phone number. I added them on WhatsApp. They initially asked me to let them know 20 minutes before I arrived at the hotel, then later said we'd meet at the hotel directly, mainly because the reception areas weren't in the same location. After arriving, I waited for about ten minutes before they came to the hotel. I paid the city tax and received the room key, which also opened the main door. Then I asked how to store my luggage when I checked out. They told me to leave it in the room with the key in the door, and that someone would come at 10 am to collect it and store it at the reception. Later, when I tried to retrieve my luggage, they were probably busy and didn't reply. I was worried about missing the bus and was a bit anxious. Luckily, I met another staff member at the hotel who let me walk to the reception to retrieve it; it was only a 5-6 minute walk. Aside from this inconvenience, everything else was fine. The single room was on the third floor, the top attic. Tall people might bump their heads. It had a refrigerator, air conditioning, and everything else I needed, and was fairly clean. There's also a supermarket nearby for convenient shopping. The town is small, so it feels convenient to stay anywhere."

"It was difficult to carry a suitcase, but the location was good. It was a new experience. You pay a tourist tax of 1.86 euros separately from the accommodation fee. Cards are also accepted. The staff is friendly and the guidance is good. Thank you. I made a good choice. However, it was difficult to contact me because I wrote down my contact information because it was connected to a company. Nevertheless, we were thankful that we were able to check in even late at night. It was nice to be able to park our car. If check-in is after 8pm, it is better to contact us in advance. We are very grateful to the male employee in the office who took care of our convenience."

"We arrived at the hotel and were informed that the room thermostat works properly as long as the windows are closed. After 3 hours, with the temperature set to 22°C, the room was already 26°C. After reporting this to the reception, the option to set it to 18°C was unlocked, but it made no difference. We also received contradictory information: one staff member said the wristband (key card) does not need to be in the room for the air conditioning to work, another said that it does. The leaflet provided yet another explanation. Eventually, a technician arrived and contradicted all previous statements, explaining that the set temperature does not matter anyway because the entire hotel is operating in heating mode - and that it is best to simply turn everything off. When we asked how we were supposed to cool the room in that case, we were told to “open the windows.” This meant either dealing with a draft while traveling with a small child and keeping the window open all night (no mosquito net, ~15°C outside), or trying to sleep in a room at 26°C. The situation got even worse the next day - at 10:00 AM, the room temperature had already reached 28°C. Although the room was advertised as air-conditioned, in reality the air conditioning simply did not work. At reception we were told that “no one has complained,” which was clearly not true - while we were filing our complaint, another guest approached us saying he had been trying for 5 days to get the temperature lowered in his room. After several discussions, the first offer was change our room to a worse category room, without any compensation. After further complaints, we were given an additional room - unfortunately, it was even hotter (around 35°C). This additional room was not part of our original booking but was provided during the complaint process. Only after continued escalation were we finally given a room on the first floor, on the shaded side, where it was at least possible to stay. All hotel guests were visibly overheated - including the staff. By the way the attached picture shows what the “sea view” from a grand room on the first floor actually looks like - mostly trees, open swimming pool area (closed at the time being), a car park, and only a distant strip of water visible. The first room we got also leaves a lot to be desired: * clear signs of wear and tear * very impractical layout with almost no storage space * sliding wardrobe doors damaged or poorly installed, difficult to move * loose window handles that can snap back - a potential hazard for a child * broken night latch on the entrance door, meaning the door cannot be properly secured * bed rail not attached at all - a child could easily fall between it and the bed * partially torn curtain that cannot be fully closed * sheer curtain too short to fully cover the window * dirt, dust, and hair in wardrobes and even on the bedding Additionally, there are parking spaces available at the hotel, but they were all occupied during ou"

"It's hard to drag your luggage up after parking, but the view is good. The breakfast is adequate and the view is good because it's right in front of the sea. However, since there are no directions to the reception in the huge site, you can get lost, so be careful."

"This hotel exceeded expectations. Lovely welcome , and a hot drink offered whilst we waited for our room ahead of when we should have had it. The hotel is clean, contemporary and you can tell how well it is looked after. Our room was immaculate with a lovely shower room, fluffy towels and dressing gowns. We had a lovely little balcony too with a table and chairs. The pool area is immaculate and the heated pool inviting. We borrowed cycles for the day too at no extra cost. A 15 minute quiet walk into gorgeous Rovinj with its wealth of restaurants and bars - just beautiful. Breakfast was good. Would definitely recommend."

"A really neat campsite with beautiful pitches. We stayed here for 2 nights last year and wanted to return again this year. In the end, we stayed here for our entire holiday this year. The pitch was more than big enough for our campervan (premium). Most pitches have sufficient shade, depending on where you are located on the campsite. Very clean toilets and showers that are cleaned several times a day. Every evening there is entertainment with a live band, which is very enjoyable. Close to the charming town of Rovinj. There is enough to do in the surrounding area so you don't necessarily have to stay just at the campsite. The only downsides are: - everything is extremely expensive, think of eating out, ice cream, or renting a SUP. On the other hand, the food and drinks are very good. - the swimming pool is quite small compared to the size of the campsite, but very clean - the campsite is so huge that if you are in a certain corner of the campsite, you are far from everything, so you have to walk a very long way for everything - there is little entertainment for children."

Villa Tuttorotto Hotels in Rovinj

"My Husband and I enjoyed 3 nights at Villa Tuttorotto and would happily have spent more time there. The hotel was perfect for us - small, beautifully furnished, extremely comfortable and relaxing. Tucked away down a small alley right in the heart of Old Town Rovinj with everything that has to offer. Dom, Olga and Anna couldn’t do enough to ensure our stay was perfect. We had a car which we parked in a nearby car park, Olga picked us up from there in the hotel cart. She organised payment of the car park (she had even taken a photo of the car registration so we didn’t have to look it up) and made sure payment was made until we left Rovinj. In other words she couldn’t have been more helpful. Breakfast was delicious - fresh fruit, pastries, cold meats etc. We very much hope we can enjoy a return visit."

"This hotel is in a great location - just 5 minutes walk from the old town of Rovinj and also very close to the ferry terminal for the islands. The hotel has recently been refurbished, the rooms are modern and well equipped and the staff are all extremely friendly and helpful. A big thank you to Sergio and Nella on reception for their efficient sorting of any queries about the room and for their recommendations and smiles!"

"Amazing place! If you need a rest and the friendliest staff ever, you are at the right place. Nice spacious rooms, quiet area, and bicycles from the hotel to go to the beach or downtown make your visit so easy and stress-free. The staff, along with the owner, is something that you rarely find. So polite, so considerate, so friendly, so smiling - it's healing for the soul. For breakfast, they make their own bread, one of the best I have ever tried. I even got the recipe :-). Thank you all for the beautiful 3 days, how short our vacation was. Wish you all the best and see you soon :-)."

Boutique Residence Arion ★★★★
"Fantastic experience at Boutique Arion within walking distance of Old Town. Highly recommend the Penthouse amenities fully-equipped kitchen, large fridge, oven/stove, stunning balcony views of the sunset with a glass of wine in the private Jacuzzi hot tub. So loved watching the boats going in and out of the harbor. We cooked in a couple of nights with fresh bread from the bakery "Pekara dan i noc" and the little supermarket "Konzum" across the street which more than offset the cost of 2 rooms with dinner out. If your group is larger the balcony and kitchen could comfortably host 10+. The private car park at residence was also nice for daytrips. Good breakfast with eggs cooked to order and a wonderful staff "

Maistra Select Island Hotel Istra ★★★★
"This is a lovely hotel on an absolutely stunning island. We are still here, but I thought I’d write our review early. The island is breathtaking with lots to do and several of restaurants. There is water sports and always sun beds or beautiful areas to sit. If you come out of the hotel at either side, you’re faced with a stunning view. The rooms are absolutely fine. In fact they are really nice! I had read reviews saying they were small and outdated. I was worried about this as there are 3 of us, but we are more than comfortable, plus we have slept amazingly every single night so far. The team who service the rooms are excellent, they leave the place spotless. Also I had read there was only one plug outlet, but we have several! Our bathroom seems so have been upgraded too as it’s lovely. I think over the years the hotel has read feedback and actually worked hard to solve any issues. Also if you have any problems with air con, just say at reception and they fix it very quickly. The food is great. Plenty of choice and loads of it. Everything I’ve eaten has been delicious, so the cooking staff deserve real credit too. There is also unlimited, beer, wine, juice, water and cola (a local brand, but it’s really nice). This is a huge bonus. We are in high season, but never have to wait long to get drinks. My only negative about the restaurant is certain tourists. A lot act like it’s their last meal before the apocalypse. Some actually try to take the tongs out of your hand while you’re still using them. Also they power walk and cut in front of you when you have hot drinks in your hand. My tip is actually to come down for food after 7:30. These tourists are very punctual and most are down early (probably to make the most of the wine and beer). Honestly the waiting staff have the patience of saints. One tourist wanted something to pick at his teeth, so just walked into the staff only room to hoke about for something. It’s just a rudeness that stuns me, but you always get it. The ferry is brilliant and punctual. There is a queue rope at the hotel end, however in Rovinj it is hilarious, watching against certain tourists just walk right to the front and push on. There will be a queue right at the walkway and they just walk round it. They also try to get on before passengers are off. Every single time, the crew, have to stop them. Again I am impressed by their patience. Overall, the hotel and the island is lovely. Rovinj is also absolutely stunning, so as long as you can laugh at the abruptness of certain tourists, then this is an amazing place to stay."

"I've stayed at this property once before, and this time I stayed in a different room. I can confirm that the quality remained excellent. The room was spacious, spotlessly clean, cool, and perfect for the hottest summer days. It also had every comfort: shampoo and shower gel, towels, a hairdryer, a kettle with coffee, and everything you need for a pleasant stay. I had a wonderful experience both during my stay and during check-in. The staff is always helpful, friendly, and responds quickly, offering assistance and support with great professionalism. For the second time, I would recommend this property to anyone looking for tranquility, excellent value, the convenience of being close to the city center, and easily accessible parking. It's the ideal place to enjoy a moment of relaxation. I'll definitely be back!"
