"Well it was once my family home, I come from the Murray's of black barony on my mother's side. Everyone was very kind and helpful, the place looks like it could do with a lick of paint but it is an ancient building I suppose. The ground and surrounding trees are beautiful, the ceilings could be higher but I suppose people weren't so tall back in those days although my grandfather was 6 foot 5 and I'm 6 foot 2 so I think my family are mostly quite tall. It was grand but not as grand as I had imagined from the photos and my mental image of the place having never visited before but knowing it was built by my aristocratic family. I half expected a free cup of tea and a slice of cake which I jokingly mentioned to the staff when I booked my stay 😂, but you know as with any chain these personal privileges can't be authorised without going to head quarters probably in some other country like America?"

"Hotels was great service was fab and food in restaurant great. Only thing missing is a jacuzzi in the spa. Our trip was spoilt by the reception charging us twice for our accommodation. Already paid via trip.com and then got home to discover the hotel had also charged directly. Despite informing Hotel of this error on day of departure, a week later and multiple tel call we still haven’t the money returned to our account. As a result we will not be returning as very poor post trip customer care!"

"Had a great 4-night stay at the Tontine. All the staff were friendly and very helpful. Food was delicious and there was a good choice. Our favourite place was in the lounge on a comfy sofa with a cocktail. Hope to stay again."

From the welcoming Kirsty on reception , the lovely warm temperatures in all rooms on a bitterly cold day , the fabulous room we were allocated and the delicious tasting dinner we enjoyed in the evening everything was top notch. The building itself is stunning, and the interior decor is sympathetic to its age. The quality of staff is probably the best we have ever come across on our travels, Attention to detail was outstanding and in our eyes made the stay perfect. We can’t wait to visit again soon."

"Lovely room, brilliant location, staff were friendly and welcoming. Place to store bikes and sunny outdoor space. Only minor flaw was not being able to order my favourite cocktail from the bar (despite it being stocked with all the ingredients to make it). Will definitely be back."
