The colonial architecture, lush gardens, and valley views from the rooms are stunning – perfect for a peaceful getaway. But the best part was the staff. Front desk was efficient and gave great local tips, specially Ms Monica, Restaurant staff served with a smile and remembered our preferences. Housekeeping was prompt and the rooms were spotless daily. Rooms are spacious with heaters, 24/7 hot water, and cozy beds – ideal for Ooty weather. Food was fresh and delicious, with excellent South Indian breakfast and multi-cuisine dinner options. Quiet location away from the market crowds, yet only a short drive to main attractions. "We had booked two rooms at Sterling Elk Hill for a weekend stay. During the booking process, there was no option to select or upgrade to a room with a view. However, upon arrival, we were told that since we hadn't booked a "view room," nothing could be done, which was both disappointing and unfair. To make matters worse, despite arriving at check in time, we were asked to wait for nearly an hour because the rooms were not ready. Eventually, we were allotted two rooms on different floors, as adjacent rooms were apparently unavailable. Both rooms overlooked poor views, and when we requested an alternative, every staff member simply passed the responsibility. Nobody took ownership or made any genuine effort to resolve the issue. The repeated response was, "You didn't book a view room." Had that option been available while booking, we certainly would have chosen it. While waiting, we were asked to have lunch at the restaurant. We initially wanted to order à la carte, but the waiter recommended the buffet, saying it would be more economical. That turned out to be a mistake. The buffet was chaotic, the food was ice cold, there was virtually no table service, and the overall dining experience was extremely poor. I called the restaurant manager to point out that the buffet food was cold. He listened, apologized briefly, and walked away as though this was a routine complaint. There was no attempt to fix the issue or even check back with us. In fact, none of us could finish the buffet because of its poor quality. The biggest disappointment wasn't the rooms or the food. It was the complete lack of accountability and service recovery. Hospitality is about taking ownership when things go wrong, and unfortunately, that was missing throughout our stay. Based on our first impressions, I am genuinely concerned about what to expect for the remainder of our stay."
