Hotel Don Ignacio ★★★★
"We come here every year to celebrate our birthdays and we love it. But…..this year, when we opened the door to our room, we were met by a monkey sitting on the bed side table doing something very impromptu with his tackle . I shielded my wife’s eyes so she didn’t have to witness such a disturbing scene. After negotiating with the little critter,he left our room with no complaints but it did cost me 500 euros! We’ll be back! 👍"
Wecamp Cabo de Gata ★★★
"We stayed here for three nights in mid jan 24. The location is remote and the site accessed along a narrow road. It was ok in our 7M Motorhome. We were shown to a deluxe pitch. It was smaller than the info suggested and next to some long term campers who had begun to make the area look like a shanty town. At our request we were moved but onto an even tighter plot. Apart from this the staff were generally helpful and the facilities clean and modern. The shop was open infrequently and the pool and restaurant closed. Ongoing building work did not impact upon us. Access to the beach and neighbouring village are easy from site. There are lovely walks across the hills and cliffs to neighbouring bays."
Cortijo Boutique Siete Calas ★★★★
"A rural, sympathetically designed stunning retreat set above the beautiful El Playazo beach. Pristine, very spacious rooms ; Landscaped with care and a real feast for the senses. The roof terrace was a special place with views over the volcanic hills and the sea. Hotel food was delicious with local wines and buffet breakfast was generous and fresh. Service from Julia especially and her small team was attentive, personal and friendly. Tiny plunge pool so we swam in the sea most days, Very wild and un-touristy area to explore; impossible without a vehicle."
Hostal Boutique Bajío
"Lovely little Hostal in a quiet traditional village, San Jose is very close by and just a few minutes in the car and there are some beautiful surrounding areas. Hostal was clean but basic as you would expect, beds comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful. Ate lunch at the Mexican restaurant attached to Hostal and the food was really good. Wouldn’t recommend the breakfast as the options are limited."
Apartahotel Vistamar San José ★★★
"Very nice. spectacular views, good service. wide apartment. But if you have any back problem as in my case. The bed is hard and I came, direct to go to the physio. A hurt have no good beds and coats."
Hotel de Naturaleza Rodalquilar & Spa Cabo de Gata ★★★★
"I hated my 3 nights stay at this hotel. Everything was a struggle. Toiletries and loo roll for the first 2 days have not been replenished; I had to go and fetch them in the toilet down near the spa. The TV was not synchronised with the remote, eventually was changed and worked, the safe was not working, the room was dark and uncomfortable with a monstruosity for a headboard. No kettle in the room. Breakfast was already scarse and if you don’t eat anything with sugar added nor process meat, was very little left. The pool and all outdoor area extremely unkempt, chairs covered with birds poo, stained sun loungers, no paddings nor a towel on sight. Should not be advertised at this time of the year if not maintained and customers are unable to use it. I cannot believe this is a 4 stars hotel. One of the lady at reception stunk of cigarettes smoke; very unpleasant when she came to look into the issue with the TV and left a trail of smell behind. Catalina on the other end was very informative."
El Dorado San José ★★
"Great small hotel in super location and great views of the terraces. The centre of the city is reachable in a few minutes, to the beach it takes max 15 minutes. Breakfast is decent, but more than enough and coffee tastes very good. Free parking right in front of the door."
Cortijo Los Malenos ★★★★
"El Cortijo de los Malenos has been, for me, a place to truly disconnect. I would especially recommend it out of season, when you can enjoy even more the silence and calm that this place offers. At this time of year there is no daily housekeeping service or breakfast, and far from being a drawback, for us it was part of its charm: a space designed to rest, connect with nature and enjoy complete privacy. There is also the option of staying in an apartment. The bed and pillows feel like an embrace, and the quality of the towels is simply outstanding. It is located just five minutes from Agua Amarga, with all necessary services, and very close to stunning beaches such as Playa de los Muertos or Cala de Enmedio, as well as restaurants like La Chumbera, where the red prawn tartare and the steak tartare with bone marrow are, quite literally, unforgettable. The location is ideal, allowing you to move around easily without giving up the tranquility of the surroundings. The cortijo is a wonderful combination of peace, nature and art. During our stay there was a sculpture exhibition, which was the icing on the cake. Listening to the silence, surrounded by such a beautiful setting, has been one of those small luxuries that are hard to find. I would especially like to highlight Aurora and her team, whose service has been exceptional. They are not constantly visible, but they are always there whenever you need them, with immediate, warm attention and a truly exquisite sense of customer care. A place I will definitely return to to rest, breathe and reconnect."
