"Another excellent stay at the Royal Oak. Comfortable rooms, excellent breakfast and very good hospitality from Jane and Steve; they always make you feel very welcome. Cosy bar with log fire and good choice of local ales. We ate there on Friday night and the food was very good and reasonably priced."

Dunkery Beacon Country House

Dunkery Beacon Country House ★★★★

📍 Nr Dunster, Wootton Courtenay

"The location will not be for everyone, and you will certainly benefit from access to transport, being situated on a typically southern hillside 'lane', where you can pick left and right hedgerow produce and never leave your car, but it is that very situation which allows such spectacular views from the property. The lodge, retains the original beauty and charm of its origins, despite its modern-day upgrades; itl is clean and immaculately tidy, and Andy and Tanya offer thoughtful little touches, like fresh milk and water freely available from a chiller in the entrance hall, and local cookies to accompany your fresh made nespresso machine coffee in your room, not to mention the, over the bath, power shower, truely a force to be reckoned with! Breakfast is a 3 course multi choice menu.- I highly recommend the mixed fresh fruit cocktail, croissant with jam or marmalade, and completed by French toast with banana and maple syrup, by which time I had no room for the proffered toast. My husband would urge you to sample both the full English, consisting of local farm sourced, bacon, sausage, egg and the local supermarket provided baked beans m.por the particularly delicious scrambled egg and smoked salmon on a toasted muffin! We had an exceptional 3 nighy break and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting something different from the hurly burly of a seaside venue. Thank you Andy and Tanya I hope we will be back. X"

Yarn Market Hotel

Yarn Market Hotel ★★★

📍 25-33 High St, Dunster

"Not actually staying in the hotel, but using the hotel owned property 1a, situated down the road from the hotel in the very picturesque village of Dunster. The property was well presented and spacious rooms, with a quiet atmosphere and very clean. Excellent service from all, meals were very well cooked and presented, especially on the last night we were there (The oven Baked Chicken Breast, with a creamy mushroom sauce) was excellent!!! Excellent value for money! The whole atmosphere was very friendly!"

The Crown Hotel

The Crown Hotel ★★★

📍 Crown Hotel, Park St, Exford

"Fantastic hotel. We stayed for one night and couldn’t fault anything. Older style but clean and very comfortable. Superb bed. We had an excellent dinner (ribs and lamb tagine) and one of the best breakfasts at a hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful, even let us recharge our e-bikes in the secure shed (former stables). Great location to explore Exmoor as it’s on the doorstep. Highly recommended."

The Lorna Doone Hotel ★★★

📍 High St, Porlock

"A lovely family run hotel. Delightful bedroom and comfortable beds. Nothing was too much trouble. Food very good and wide choice. Breakfast was superb couldnt fault it. A very efficient young lady helped the family in all departments and they all worked very hard to make out stay so pleasant. Definitely worth visiting for a stay or a meal. Thoroughly recommend. Only grumble dont arrive before 3 pm. Door was locked so we spent an hour or two in the Royal Oak next door having a good lunch. Porlock is delightful village and everyone so friendly."

The Royal Oak Exmoor ★★★★
"We received a very warm welcome from our hosts. We were staying in the cottage next door for the weekend so it was a very convenient location to go for a drink or for a meal. We had dinner on the Friday night which was lovely with plenty of choice. They kept the kitchen open as we were late arriving for which we were very grateful. We also had Sunday lunch which was amongst the best I’ve ever eaten. It’s a lovely pub and also has rooms so would be very happy to stay there next time"

The Rest and Be Thankful Inn ★★★★
"Although we had booked a King/Twin room months in advance, sadly we were informed upon our arrival that something had gone wrong with the booking system, which meant that the room was not available. The landlord offered us a Double and an adjacent Single room instead, which is obviously not a desirable option for a married couple on a romantic getaway. We therefore opted to both sleep in the double room, though we regretted our decision the next morning, as the bed was clearly too narrow for two people to sleep in comfortably. The landlord had offered to make up for this mishap with our dinner, though we ended up being merely treated to 2 glasses of sparkling wine, which seemed a bit too small a gesture for our inconvenience. On the bright side, staff very generally friendly and we liked the breakfast. But having seen the high review rating this Inn is getting, it did feel somewhat of a let-down, to be honest. Google lists the establishment as a 4-star hotel, which doesn't seem quite appropriate. E.g. bottled water in the room was sorely missing. The decor also seemed rather dated to us."

"Well this accommodation did not disappoint. It was immaculately clean, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was spacious and the view was stunning. We were upgraded to one of the four poster rooms with a separate sitting room and it suited our needs well. The upgrade was volunteered by the proprietors and was not sought. What a delight it was though. The rooms were warm and there were spare blankets, bath robes and quality toiletries. I think whichever room we had would have been a very positive experience. Breakfast was wonderful, plenty of choice, fresh fruit juices, delightful coffee. The full English was very nicely cooked, as was the scrambled egg muffin we also tried. The proprietors were charming, parking and situation was idyllic. One of my favourites, a small thing but so welcome, was the availability of fresh milk in a fridge in reception. The beverages in the room were first class all round. I can highly recommend this for a stay and we hope to revisit in the future."

"Great family run hotel, highly recommended. My wife and I booked a room for two nights and had a great stay. There is plenty of free on site car parking, everyone was very welcoming and pleasant and the bar was busy with locals as well as hotel guests on both Friday and Saturday night (which I think is always a good sign) We had room number 7, which is a large room and has a huge comfortable bed and a good shower in the en suite, with a lovely view over the village green."

"Had a fabulous short break at this B&B. The rooms are spotlessly clean and very comfortable. There is everything you need supplied from tea, coffee and biscuits to a full range of toiletries in the bathroom. Breakfast is excellent and plentiful. James and Jane are very friendly and helpful, offering excellent suggestions on restaurants and places to visit. Dunster is a lovely little village with good restaurants and pubs to suit every budget. The wider area is also great to explore we especially enjoyed visiting Lynton and Lynmouth using the open topped bus."
