The location of the accommodation is the only positive aspect, though it’s difficult to sleep at night due to the outside noise. I chose this place because I had a decent stay at YHA Sydney Central, but the Melbourne YHA was a completely different experience. The room I stayed in was honestly terrible—there was no air conditioning, just a fan that didn’t rotate and didn’t provide sufficient airflow. The bed was old, and I constantly feared it might collapse. One small movement caused the whole bed to shake, probably waking up my bunkmate, and I myself woke up several times during the night because of it. The shared bathrooms were unclean and unpleasant.
I understand it's budget accommodation, but I paid less in Sydney and had a much better experience in terms of cleanliness and staff interactions. The receptionist on March 12th was genuinely unfriendly, unhelpful, and had a condescending attitude. In the service industry, a dismissive tone and attitude are not ideal. Because of all these issues, I truly disliked my stay in Melbourne, and this place was the main reason for that.
